6801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TeamRedMiner 0.4.2 - Cryptonight Thread - High hashrate, Low Power on: March 16, 2019, 07:57:30 PM
Anyone here have success in mining with Windows 7?

Basically I used the stock AMD drivers 19.3 and stock bios and the most I get is like 400 Hs with a RX 470 4GB.

Increasing the settings from 1242/1650 to like 1242/2000 does little change. The AMD drivers in Win 7 don't have a compute option so you can only use those Robinhood drivers from like 2 years ago.

Using those drivers yields like 650 Hs with 1242/2000 and can't go any higher.

Wondering if I need to mod the BIOS from stock straps or is it only possible with Win 10 and Ubuntu?
6802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Related Crimes Surge on: March 16, 2019, 06:08:47 AM
The problem with Bitcoin during the 2017 mania was that too many people wanted to show-off their earnings and that's how the kidnappings and thefts started.

I remember a long time ago before Bitcoin ATMs I met an individual in public to buy a few hundred dollars worth of BTC. This was years ago. He seemed nice and everything but he was showing off how he had $50,000 in his laptop bitcoin.dat file.

I told him you need to becareful because you don't know who you might run into and you might get robbed. The reason why its popular with theft is because its not reversable and once its sent, its gone forever.
6803  Economy / Speculation / Re: ??? DECISION TIME FOR BITCOIN?!?! 4k or 3.5k?!?! ??? on: March 16, 2019, 06:06:27 AM
We just hit $4K a few minutes ago and it looks like we are not out of steam yet. Looking at the open interest, there was a small amount of positions which closed, so I am thinking we will test $4200 again for the 5th time and this will give us a peak into the future of Crypto.

Its basically simple we will either hit $4200 and go straight back down to $3100-$3500 or we will break $4200 and head into the $5-6K terrority. And the $6K will be a tough nut to crack.
6804  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does Bitcoin coalesce among whales during the bottom? on: March 16, 2019, 06:03:42 AM
I am sure there was some whales who also accumulated at $6K and they are sitting at a huge loss right now. So yes its possible some whales bought loads of BTC at $3.1K however who knows if that was actually the bottom yet. Only in hindsight we will know.

I know that there was lots of panic during Dec 2018 and it was going lower and lower everyday. People didn't want to buy at $3100-$3200 because they said they would buy at $2500-$3000 which never came. Even myself I've only bought small amounts at $3200, $3400, $3600 but was almost certain that $3000 would break and it never did. Hindsight is 20-20
6805  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why does Binance seem to fluctuate more than Coinbase? on: March 14, 2019, 06:51:37 AM
This is nothing to be concerned about. Its basically someone doing a large fat finger trade and causing a spike on one exchange which it remains more stable on another until the algo bots countertrade the move.

Its actually very common on alt coin markets, especially ETH. If you check the Coinbase charts there are many large spikes on ETH while not on other exchanges. Basically a large order and not enough liquidity to absorb it. Might be a panic market order or a fat finger trade.
6806  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predicting Bitcoin Price on: March 14, 2019, 06:42:53 AM
Yes there is alot of positive news and lots of developement and hiring in the blockchain and Crypto industries however it doesn't mean a price rally will happen.

What is bitcoins fair market value? Maybe its fair market value is actually $4000 and which is why its not rallying. Also consider the fact that in 2014-2015 it was a similiar situation. The price kept going down and down but there was positive news released from time to time. It eventually rallied when people least expected it too, I am pretty sure it will be the same situation here.
6807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are you mining Ethash or Grin? on: March 14, 2019, 06:22:07 AM
The price of electricity that makes it unprofitable is around 0.11 kwh or so. It however depends on which GPU we are talking about and what coin you are mining. And also what unprofitable means, because in my opinion making $0.01 a day per GPU is considered unprofitable also.

Not much you can do except wait. We miners are hoping for ETH to switch the algo to ProgPOW and eliminate the ASICs and that might lead to better profits.

Anyone had any luck getting this miner to run on older AMD gpus like the Radeon 7970/280X or the R9 290 ?

I've tried with various AMD drivers from 15.12-19.03 and the program starts and nothing happens. It doesn't freeze or lock the system up, but it just displays the title and that's all.

I tried to run the parameter --list_devices and nothing happens, basically same issue. Tried with both the Lyra and the XMR bat shortcuts provided.
6809  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com 2 Just Launched! New games, updated design 💎💣🎰🎲♠️ on: March 14, 2019, 06:15:33 AM
Having their own token and running an ICO are completely different things.

Most ICOs that have launched are usually start-ups. Its possible for Primedice to perform an ICO to raise funds, many companies do this in the stock market its called an IPO. If Primedice actually did this they would have to basically make their company go public and they would need to release earnings statements and what-not. So if they decided to say sell 80% of their stake in the ICO, the ICO would actually be pretty succesful. And the tokens value would be worth on the net income of the site.

Launching Stakecoin like was previously suggested would be like the Binance Coin that was talked about earlier. Its not a stake in the company but it has certain perks like a deal off trading fees. Hence for Stakecoin it would have perks like lower house edge or other promos.
6810  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why not just gamble with fiat? on: March 13, 2019, 06:18:46 AM
I think one of the big advantages for crypto casinos are that they offer games with a much lower minimum bet, betting with one satoshi or the smallest micro unit of a cheaper crypto currency, makes betting on online casinos affordable for everyone.

I don't see that as an advantage since casinos are anyway affordable for pretty much anyone these days. Also the winnings are a lot smaller if your bet is only 1 satoshi and that's why almost no one plays on that small amount. Good thing about this is that you could win a jackpot with only 1 satoshi bets so for those who are lucky this is an advantage

Have you been to a real casino recently? You can't gamble with a penny. Maybe you can on some slots.

However if you want to play a game like Poker, Roulette, Blackjack they all got min bet amounts. So basically if you go to a casino with $5 you won't stay there too long.

With most crypto casinos you can bet with like 10 satoshi or so, some even offer 1 satoshi bets. Actually some even let you bet with 0 Satoshi.

So his point is correct that it makes gambling more affordable since the limits are much much lower.
6811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Need opinion about Decentralized Gambling and Profit Sharing on: March 13, 2019, 06:12:05 AM
I think in the future this can one day be big especially if there are regulations being brought into casinos which might force their users to KYC.

The issue with these smart contracts and all is that they got crazy bugs. This is new technology and hasn't really had much mainstream adoption yet and who knows how well the code is done.

So if you are an investor you not only need to worry about the smart contract coding but also any bugs that might be discovered with the underlying coin that it runs off.

Look in the past how many bugs Ethereum had and there were millions of lost funds as a result of it. With these dentralized casinos it will be the same issues.
6812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: March 13, 2019, 05:43:43 AM
Looks like there might be good news for GPU miners after all.

The devs might or might not include the ProgPOW algo change in the instabul fork which is the next scheduled fork.

Currently it's being audited to see how effective it will be against ASICs and there is discussion whether or not this is necessary since the ASICs might not be such a big threat.

We will know more on the next dev conf meeting.
6813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Current Bitcoin Price prediction on: March 13, 2019, 05:40:07 AM
The long and short ratio is at parity now on Bitfinex and it's almost $500,000,000 worth of open interest on Bitmex. Looking at the funding rates it seems many people are shorting and hedging.

You need to be careful the next few days, when there is so much open interest usually it means at least a 5% move. Way too many contracts open on high leverage.

No idea which way it would go. Since everybody is bearish it will probably go up then.
6814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: March 12, 2019, 09:40:32 PM
XMR has made my Vegas profitable to run again!

...at least for the next few days.
...not yet at the ugly $0.16/KWh I'm dishing out for power, but if it keeps going in the right direction, it might just fairly soon!
There's no secret though. Prices need to go up for profits to rise as well. Wonder how long it'll take for Asics (and FPGAs) to kick into gear and up the diff on CN/r.

Oh btw have any other coins forked to CN/r yet, or only XMR thus far?

Is it still true to say that Cryptonight algo (including the forks) is still lowest in power consumption compared to all the other algos?

Yes it's the lowest power usage mining algo out there. I am actually trying to build a enclosed rig which is more living room friendly when the guests or family arrive. Seems with adequate cooling you can easily do 5-6 GPUs in a server chassis without the temps going up or without the fans going max speed.

XMR however is not as easy as ETH to set up properly. The bios needs to be difficult and if you take the time to tune each GPU individually you can get decent power efficiency.

So it's a good thing that it's hard to tune because most lazy miners might just stay on ETH using Claymore. Should keep the difficulty low temporarily.... until the FGPA arrive again that is.

Just tried out the miner and it seems its actually finally making a profit with my power costs. Really crazy how little the power usage and temps are.

Wonder how the difficulty of XMR will eventually settle and wonder how long before the masses start to switch from ETH to XMR mining. Would be nice if we could get this profitability till the end of the month at least.

We really need ETH to switch to ProgPOW soon.

One month chart is a jaw dropper for Monero difficulty:

https://www.coinwarz.com/difficulty-charts/monero-difficulty-chart

Where have all the ASICs/FPGAs gone?  Long time passing.

How long do we have until the FPGAs start coming back online?  I will say one to three months, with three months marking the outer limit.  But that's okay though.  I will shut off for Summer and wait for the Fall Monero fork.

I am guessing the difficulty will probably settle at the exact same area as it was before these massive FGPAs took over in January. I think it will be between 30-50 Million or so. Eventually people will see its more profitable and they will make the switch.

Basically what happened before. It was slightly more profitable to mine than ETH, so people switched, and then a few months later they switched back to ETH when the FGPAs arrived.

Wonder how my R9 280X will perform on this algo?
6817  Economy / Gambling / Re: StackGambler -- A new cryptocurrency gambling YouTube channel! on: March 12, 2019, 07:10:53 AM
Watched a few of your videos today when I had some free time at work. They were pretty interesting to make the time go by. I will probably end up watching most of them eventually.

I really would like to see maybe some gambling on other websites like Primedice, Fortunejack or maybe you can make a few videos of yourself going crazy and going 100x leverage on Bitmex. It was pretty intense in some of the videos and you got some balls taking some of those bets.

An intense video would be maybe going on martingale and keep doubling your bets when you got like 15 reds in a row but you keep doubling your bet over and over again, would be pretty heart pounding and intense to watch.

Keep up the great work.

Which Powerball lottery is this exactly? In my country we don't have the Powerball lottery. I am guessing this is somewhere in the USA ?

So what you are doing is basically matching and buying the actual lottery tickets physically ? Do you do this online or do you go to an actual 7-11 to buy the tickets?

I am wondering because what if your site gets large enough and every week you will need to buy 10,000 tickets, would be very difficult to do this in person.
6819  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Samsung confirms the rumor! on: March 12, 2019, 02:39:26 AM
Since it's been a couple days and people are finally receiving their S10 it looks like it's not available on all phones.

Basically in the USA and Canada if you got an unlocked S10 from the Samsung store, it doesn't have it installed.

If you got a Korean phone it should have it installed and if you got an T mobile branded locked USA phone it should have it installed.

You can check by going into security settings and there should be a Samsung blockchain option there.

So I just noticed that XMR switched to a new algo called CN R. Wondering what speeds people are getting with their RX 470 4GB.

My rigs have been long shut off due to the high power costs and wondering if its beneficial to get them up and running again.

I am assuming the difficulty will stay low for a week or so and then all the miners will make the switch and profits will be equal to ETH profitability, as was last time with the CN V8 fork.
