6801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coronavirus & quarantine & effect on BTC Difficulty. How Bad/Likely? Poll! on: February 07, 2020, 08:13:52 PM
Aren't mining farms on China manned by a few people on remote areas? Usually mountainsides? If that's the case then the threat of infection would be low. The virus per se cannot survive without a host in ~12 hrs, is not airborne and can only be passed through human-human transmission. Given the conditions of the mining farms being isolated and far from civilization for the most part, there's a slim chance that workers would contract the disease, and I'm pretty sure they are now avoiding the hotspots of infection, particularly areas surrounding Wuhan. So general opinion here: mining and business as usual.

As for the virus itself, countries are finding a cure now and it's just a matter of time before everyone is cured and the virus itself is quarantined.

I don't think this person was weak or old, 34 year old DOCTOR from the very Wuhan hospital, who ended becoming a patient Jan 30 and now is dead.

The human body is a fascinating vessel. We might not know whether the person suffered from fatigue (which helps accelerate the effects of the virus) and/or other unknown complications--or may have been left unchecked. It is not lethal, but highly contagious for sure. Majority of the people who died from the virus have pre-existing medical conditions, are children with underdeveloped immune system and the elderlies with a weaker immune system. For healthy human beings, they have a chance to get out of the said sickness.

There really is a threat, it appears to have been contained so far, but its no common flu like you say, its serious. It does propagate like the flu, which means worryingly easy.

There was, prior to the recreation of the virus in lab conditions. It has an R0>2.5 which is way higher than SARS and MERS-CoV, though its symptoms and effects to the body isn't lethal and isn't developing faster into deadlier complications.

Perhaps this is nature's way of telling people to not eat everything that moves.
6802  Economy / Economics / Re: Justin Sun gifted Warren Buffett bitcoin and tron on: February 07, 2020, 07:41:31 PM
Justin really knows how to make someone's heart aoft and close to home. Warren Buffett has been pretty stiff about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies stating that they don't bring anything new in the table. And here goes Sun together with the permabull Charlie Lee, bringing forth the table and laying down facts and god knows whatever things they discussed on that dinner. Pretty sure it's about investment matters and private dealings and not necessarily about bitcoin and crypto but who knows?
6803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Steven Wright - Satoshi or MtGox Hacker ? on: February 07, 2020, 04:42:27 PM
CSW is neither. He just wanted to take the fame, use it for his (dis)advantage and fool people and the government for money and profit.

Even I can say that I control the richest address in bitcoin, write a sworn statement in presence of my lawyer even without proving that I control the said address. He has given himself too many loopholes that it's hard to keep the facts in check and he sometimes say lapses on some of his interviews. The man can't even hold himself off on a tight argument against Roger Ver regarding technicalities of bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash prior to the split of Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV.

Conclusion: CSW only wants attention, and that's it. He got that, and he's going to jail just because of that.
6804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Losing Grip on The Blockchain Industry on: February 07, 2020, 03:25:47 PM
This article is wrong in so many levels.

First, the forerunners of technological advancements had always been the Asian countries. Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and China just to name a few, and only the US engineers have integrated some of these useful technologies produced in Asia into their own technology/innovation. While there had been numerous bright engineers hailing from the United States after the Second World War, we can't deny the fact that Japan, Taiwan and China mainly carried the torch for technological advancements and had been responsible for creating the framework of the technology that we are enjoying today.

The only thing the US is known for at the top spot is constantly promoting terrorism by creating their 'anti-terrorism' campaign. Idiotic and ironic, right?
6805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Usage Among Merchants Is Up on: February 06, 2020, 07:30:00 PM
Though crypto has value, unfortunately not everyone is brave enough to accept it as a form of payment. Sure there are a few merchants here and therr accepting bitcoin as payment but sadly, even those are disappearing as time passes by. Not to mention that ever since big names started closing their doors on crypto payments, independent merchants followed suit, thus bringing a rather lame adoption phase for cryptocurrency and making it a non-viable payment solution yet again since no one accepts it.

Until speculation has subsided and the craze for get-rich-quick involving crypto has died out, we may not be seeing crypto receiving the adoption and attention from the merchants it was always destined to have.
6806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: comparing Bitcoin to a new country's currency on: February 05, 2020, 08:19:34 PM
My question is how can we check the power of Wladimir? Is there some voting process like the election of US president?

AFAIK being the top D for bitcoin does not undergo any voting process. It simply is entrusted by the previous top D to a new person he sees fit to continue on working with the code. These guys are not regularly compensated and are rarely funded; they only rely to donations and whatnot so I don't think there's much power into being the top developer of bitcoin. You are simply known for your knowledge and ability to do changes on the code for its betterment, and even if you turn out to be a nefarious being, the code is open-source, and people can easily opt for a fork should there be any malicious part in the code that you have uploaded.

Wladimir maybe like a kind emperor, what if Wladimir gives the power to some bad guy who work with the miners to increase the block reward (and hence increase the total bitcoin supply)?
Remember today mining pool is highly concentrated and therefore controlled by very few people.

That wouldn't happen. Substantial changes in the code undergoes a voting process, or a consensus as it is officially called. Also, even though miners are hugely concentrated in China, they do not belong to a single entity, and you need more than 90% of the whole hashing power of the network in order to impose changes thoroughly. Even then, you would not be sure that everyone would follow your version of bitcoin. Heck, it took a good year before blockchain.info implemented bech32 searches in its own service...

Don't tell me something never happen, remember block reward is just a parameter in the code. In financial word, anything can happen without proper checks.

Unfortunately (lol), the code is regularly checked by thousands of people every single day. I'm not saying that it would never happen, but it really wouldn't.
6807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Regularization in Different Countries on: February 05, 2020, 05:52:37 PM
Many countries are slowly legalizing bitcoin and cryptocurrencies within their jurisdictions.

Thanks, Wikipedia.

Just a year ago, the picture that you're seeing doesn't include many greens, and a lot are still hostile towards bitcoin (colored in red) since no one knows how to deal with it or how would it fit within their constitution.

As time passes and as legal frameworks for cryptocurrencies are constructed and tweaked to complement with their own laws and constitutions, countries slowly became receptive of bitcoin and adopted the idea that it could work within their economy though haven't taken some initial steps into making an economy infused with bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. I'm sure that most countries are just waiting for other key countries to adopt bitcoin into their economies before it starts a domino effect of bitcoin's legal acceptance.

For now, the green-colored countries are the countries in which you can openly use bitcoin without the fear of being persecuted or deported. We're heading towards the right direction for cryptocurrencies, and the only question is when would we reach that goal.
6808  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top analyst warns a hard dump. on: February 05, 2020, 03:58:42 PM
Anyone can be a "top analyst" on the interwebs without even proving their credentials. I don't even need to submit my history of trading on the internet and just release a couple of strong statements, coupled with a few fair of graphs and cross-referencing some other analysts and people will consider me a top analyst. These same lads have been prophesying a hard dump for a long time, and though on some occasions they got it right, their wrong guesses obviously outweighed their wrong predictions.

These kind of articles will never end, for sure.
6809  Economy / Speculation / Re: The reasons why bitcoin may go 50% this year ! on: February 05, 2020, 01:52:57 PM
50% is an understatement to the appreciation in value that bitcoin could face within the next couple of months after the halving. For the past 2 events of halving that we have witnessed, the day of the event itself did not bring any surprising things on the table, but just after everything was done for did the traders revved up for something promising. There's no doubt that after the halving we'll see something remarkable in terms of price action, and the real question is by how much will it go up.
6810  Economy / Economics / Re: The Future Crypto Market & China Printing Money on: February 04, 2020, 03:23:56 PM
I believe that China has been 'injecting' money into its own economy for its efforts to fight the virus and whatnot, though that doesn't necessarily mean that they are not printing money on the side. While it may have short-term negative effects on their own economy, knowing how China's capability to outgrow any demands on its products, they can keep up. Then again, at the current state of things, countries are rejecting goods from China on the fear that it might have taken some of the virus on its journey. Even though the virus can only last long for 12 hours max without a host, other countries are still trying to get extra cautious and not risk anything.

The virus may have impaired some of the manufacturing industries that rely on China but as soon as the virus is controlled and quarantined, the economy would surely keep up and be stable once more.
6811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling: process vs outcome on: February 04, 2020, 02:24:34 PM
Nowadays I enjoy gambling as a process and not really expecting anything extra at the end of the day. I find it oddly entertaining to win something out of my own doing even though I'm just randomly pressing buttons and relying most of my wins on luck. The process is more exciting than the outcome IMO, though it will be much surprising to see that your bets won because of your gut feeling/hunch/skill/whatever. At the end of the day, it depends highly on who is playing which part of the gambling experience he enoyed best. I enjoy all parts, but the thrilling and anciety build-up on doing it takes the cake.
6812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin (BTC) Treasure Hunt Launches on Minecraft on: February 04, 2020, 01:55:33 PM
Imagine having the server filled with anarchist people and making it the next 2b2t server with a real goal. A fun and harmless approach in making people dig deeper about bitcoin. Of course we know that this wouldn't be easy knowing how big a Minecraft world is to begin with. It would be nice to have some clues to this treasure hunt though I think by doing so it would take the fun and thrill away.

Since we have ran out of ideas promoting bitcoin, perhaps integrating them into games in a fun manner would make up for it. Personally I think that it's a clever way to promote a server that actually helps get the word out.
6813  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What tools do you use to manage your portfolio? on: February 03, 2020, 09:49:38 PM
Blockfolio for crypto assets, and your traditional Excel sheets plus pen and paper for traditional assets. I'm not moving much money nowadays so I don't really need a lot of these new tools and managers to keep track of my assets. I only deposit once a month and allocate my money to some of my assets and business while my crypto assets sit still on their respective wallets. The last time I tended to blockfolio was 3 months ago when I bought a few alts due to my target price being reached. After that, I went inactive on crypto trading and focused full-time on real life businesses.

Blockfolio's UI and functionalities are IMO what makes it great. It's not over the top, but it surely gets your work and tracking done.
6814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing 1$ every day in bitcoin over the last five years on: February 03, 2020, 07:52:39 PM
Only if everyone was thinking the same back then but no. A few years back, only a few wanted to take the risk and everyone only wanted quick results, which certainly didn't happen knowing how slow everything was in the day and we were just in a bear market after the ATH in 2013. I religiously bought bitcoin from 2014 to 2015 from paycheck to paycheck, and I'm glad that I did since I bought a lot of things and established my own business too. I wanted to do the same again though I halted buying already and am trying to enlarge my enterprise using only the funds from my business. One thing's for sure though, bitcoin helped a lot on establishing that business I am handling right now.
6815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Police Forces in Belgium, France and Israel Stop Scam Promising 35% Returns on: February 03, 2020, 06:09:06 PM
It's the greed of people that usually puts them in a rough spot, and usually it is those victims who are actually to blame since they are the ones believing fully on these types of scams. Though the figures are quite inconsistent, it's still good since the law enforcement agencies of different nations banded in order to take the scams down.

I'm keen to know as to how the victims came upon these crypto scams that are so obvious nowadays.

I wonder why the article doesn't even mention local news sources. I'm pretty sure stories like this would have made it in main stream publications. With just estimated amounts scammed, this is looking like a made up story by the author. Not even the name of the group was mentioned and other relevant information. We have to be more careful of what we read these days, even articles from known crypto news sites are just pure rubbish Grin

That's how you would know that the article is half-baked and they just want to be the first one to publish the said news around. Inconsistencies on figures, sources and whatnot can be found if a supposed news articles contains lots of errors.
6816  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online gambling on real gaming equipment: Testing technology on: February 03, 2020, 04:18:27 PM
why not  ? have you heard or see an idea like this before and what is the result , bad or good  . while on my case i havent heard one and this is prolly the first . its unique so it attracts investors but what i dont only like is that the rewards are being raffled  . they should have get something in return like coins that they can sell later on for profits , just like what other projects have  .

Not all unique things attract people.

While some things might be new and obscure to the normal user, there is still a fine line between uniquely interesting and just plainly unique. The idea is something new, yes, though I don't think people from the internet would easily entrust someone their funds with the only guarantee they have that they will get their money back is the word of the person conducting this crowdfunding.

You can't even be sure that the machine/equipment that will be used is of provably fair nature, so how would you entrust someone with your investment that easily?

--

As for the OP, how can I be sure that the machines that will be used on my gambling sessions wouldn't be rigged in any way? I have no physical contact to the said machines and you guys can easily rig it to your heart's desire without me knowing..
6817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promote bitcoin through any means. It'll work! on: February 03, 2020, 03:18:00 PM
We've actually passed this stage wherein we are proactively telling people about the wonders of bitcoin.

Too many videos, ads, infographics, text and whatnot have been distributed and disseminated everywhere. That was in 2015-2017 when little to no people are really interested in bitcoin until it started making rounds in the mainstream media due to its appreciation in value. Perhaps people back then were attracted to bitcoin for the wrong reasons, that's why a lot of them disappeared in 2018. Though that doesn't mean that what we're doing to get the word out there is wrong.

Even though the general perception of people about bitcoin nowadays is all about scamming, just try to point them out on the right direction: make them see some stats that are realistic and that are actually happening and it will sway their minds even just a little bit. Keep up the good fight in spreading the good word of bitcoin.
6818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cyber Criminals are now exploiting the name of hacker group Anonymous on: February 01, 2020, 10:55:07 AM
The moniker 'Anonymous' has long been tarnished and associated with bad things even though they are doing some things for the greater good. Anyone can use the name anyway so anyone can be Anonymous, so it's not new that some radical groups would pop out and do these sort of stuffs. Even though these groups say that they will devise a new system to take the riches out of the few, there is still a possibility that even the normal people would be targeted, so it's best to stay vigilant at all times no matter what happens.
6819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So a bitcoin scam has been getting a lot of publicity in the Philippines lately on: February 01, 2020, 03:23:03 AM
They are basically just editing a screenshot of whatever show they are watching and just change the headlines after. With all the available tools that we have right now for photo and video manipulation, it's fairly easy to do such and fool people with these edited pictures. Tons of those advertisements can be found on Filipino forums, Facebook pages, Twitter and whatnot. Whenever I have the time, I try to report all such posts to at least help notify these sites from the scams. Heck, even in Canadian, Thailand and Vietnamese forums would you see the same type of thing! That's why sometimes I'm thinking that it's better to filter cryptocurrency ads on Google or any other large websites that people frequent in order to minimize the number of people being scammed.
6820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local bookie with high limits for fixed etc on: February 01, 2020, 12:59:57 AM
If we already have insider info on the games we want to bet and know that we can win on them without hassles, what difference would it be if we were to place our bet through you and on traditional bookies with no limits on the said games? Perhaps I'm not understanding you correctly but what exactly are you trying to say? Also, a blogabet account isn't going to cut the chase for reputation here in this forum, just a quick tip.
