I personally think people who advocate keeping someone artificially alive with no genuine hope of a cure are advocating torture because that's how much pain you put them in by keeping them on machines, but of course the people advocating this have no fucking clue about what it would be like for them because they're all fit and healthy and in a position to make such ignorant comments.

It's like listening to men rant on about abortion and of course it's almost always men because women actually know the kind of pain and problems involved with pregnancy and having a child.

Man wakes up after 12 years of coma: “I was aware of everything”

When he was 12, Martin Pistorius came home with a sore throat. His condition quickly deteriorated and he was soon unable to move or even talk, and eventually crashed into a coma which would go on to last 12 years. It’s not clear what his disease was, and doctors don’t really know what happened to him, though the likely suspect is cryptococcal meningitis. Everybody thought he was a “vegetable”, but after 12 years in a coma, not only did he wake up – but he says he remembers everything and was perfectly conscious for most of the time. His body became his prison, but he was ultimately able to escape after spending years trying to communicate with the outside world.

According to Martin, about two years in his condition, he regained consciousness.

Unfortunately, there were no tests conducted on him at the time, which would have likely figured out that his brain is very much active. Martin is subject of the first episode of NPR’s new series Invisibilia.

He says that among the worst memories is the cartoon character Barney, which he was forced to watch for hours and hours straight.

‘I cannot even express to you how much I hated Barney,’ Martin recalled on the first episode of NPR’s new radio show about human behavior, Invisibilia.

Pistorius could see and even hear what was around him, but he couldn’t move. He felt as if his body was encased, and even when he started to make small movements, nobody noticed. That’s when the sadness really kicked in… and Barney was the last straw.

“You don’t really think about anything. You simply exist. It’s a very dark place to find yourself because, in a sense, you are allowing yourself to vanish.”

We see the records of past peoples' inscribed in stone or brick on the walls of their ancient temples and other, decaying buildings. In a few places records have been inscribed on gold leaf or plate, on bronze, or on other metals that have remained over thousands of years.

They lost it all. Why shouldn't we? Besides, will we need any of it, personally, after we are dead?

Chicago Muslim Leader Accused Of Spreading “Islamophobia” For Reporting On Sexual Abuse Charges Against Imam…

Allegations of sexual abuse by the longtime president of a leading Chicago-area Islamic school have roiled the region’s Muslims and raised questions about the reporting of sexual abuse in a close-knit religious community.

The allegations that Abdullah Saleem of the Institute of Islamic Education in Elgin, a Chicago suburb, sexually abused an adult female school employee surfaced in December, when a leading Muslim scholar referred to them in a blog. […]

Junaid Afeef, a lawyer and Muslim leader in Chicago, said religious and community leaders, especially among the older generation, initially had a “circle-the-wagons” response to the allegations. He said at first they largely ignored them, then chose to investigate them themselves rather than go immediately to the police.

Some Muslims also worry that public allegations against a prominent leader could compound anti-Muslim sentiment, which Muslim Americans have struggled with since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and even more so lately with the rise of the Islamic State radical group in Syria and Iraq.

Afeef said that when he started publicly discussing the allegations against Saleem on a popular Listserv, he was criticized by some who told him that he was “playing into the hands of Islamophobes.”

“I’m sure that’s true,” Afeef said. “There are people who have an agenda to malign Muslims. But that’s beside the point. There is a victim here, and her safety and protection trump any bigotry that might result from reporting this.”

Saudi Arabia Calls Chapel Hill Killings A “Terrorist” Attack…

Saudi Arabia on Sunday condemned the killing in North Carolina of three American Muslim college students as a “heinous terrorist” act, and called for an end to incitement against Muslims.

The statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency also condemned as a “terrorist” act the recent attacks that killed two people in Denmark, one at a panel discussion that included an artist who caricatured the Prophet Muhammad and the other outside a synagogue.

In neighboring Qatar, several thousand people held a march Sunday in the capital Doha in solidarity with the families of the North Carolina victims. The marchers appealed for protection against hate crimes for the tens of thousands of young Arabs studying in the United States on scholarships funded by the energy-rich governments of the Gulf.

Deah Barakat, 23; his wife, Yusor Abu-Salha, 21; and her sister, Razan Abu-Salha, 19, were killed on Tuesday by their neighbor Craig Hicks, 46, an avowed atheist who was a vocal critic of all religions. Family members say all three were shot in the head at the newlywed couple’s home, though police aren’t saying exactly how the three victims died.

Sunni Islam’s Top Body Al-Azhar Says Chapel Hill Killings Result Of “Racism And Islamophobia”…

Al-Azhar, the centre of Islamic learning in Egypt, on Thursday condemned the killings of three young Muslims by a gunman in the United States as a “terrorist and racist” act.

A man who had posted anti-religious messages on Facebook and quarrelled with neighbours has been charged with the shootings.

Muslim activists in the United States and around the world have demanded authorities investigate a possible motive of religious hatred. Police said on Wednesday the case involved a dispute over parking and possibly a hate crime.

Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, a full-time paralegal student from Chapel Hill, was charged with first-degree murder in Tuesday’s killings two miles (three km) from the University of North Carolina campus.

However, the day after the attack, the pre-eminent institute of Islamic learning in the Sunni Muslim world, al-Azhar, described the murders as a “cowardly terrorist act.”

[...]
Al-Azhar, which is based in Cairo, said it was deeply concerned that the killings appeared to have been prompted by “racism and Islamophobia.”

Similarly, the 57-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the world’s largest bloc of Muslim countries, said the murders heightened international concerns about “rising anti-Muslim sentiments and Islamophobic acts” in the United States.

Not just isis: Female suicide bomber kills 16 at bus station in Nigeria

A teenage female suicide bomber blew herself up at crowded bus station in northeast Nigeria on Sunday, killing at least 16 and wounding 30 others.

Most of the victims were children who had either been selling peanuts or begging for money at the time of the explosion, said witnesses.

The girl managed to get through the security check at the entrance to the bus station in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, and detonated herself at 1 p.m. local time.

“It was an eyesore looking at the scene which is littered with chopped flesh and battered bodies of victims,” said Hassan Umar. “About 16 bodies were evacuated from the scene while over 30 persons were injured. Most casualties were children hawking sachets of water and peanuts. Some were begging for alms.”

The suicide bomber was a teenager, said Umar, who saw her remains.

"The girl that carried out the suicide should be around 16 years old, because her face was a bit matured," said Hassan.

At least eight of the bodies were taken to the mortuary at Damaturu Specialists Hospital, said who spoke to The Associated Press on phone. The worker insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing but it fits the pattern of violence by Boko Haram, Nigeria's homegrown Islamic extremist group that caused an estimated 10,000 deaths last year.

This is the first suicide bombing in Damaturu?, the capital of the Yobe state. The city of about 90,000 people in northeastern Nigeria has suffered several attacks by Boko Haram in past three years.

On Dec. 1 Boko Haram attempted to seize Damuturu, but was repelled after a heated battle with soldiers that resulted in the death of many civilians, soldiers and the insurgents.

6811  Other / Politics & Society / NYT: CIA bought, destroyed undeclared Iraqi chemical weapons demanded by UN on: February 16, 2015, 04:48:51 PM

The topic of WMD in Iraq has been a hot potato for more than two decades, ever since the end of the first Gulf War and the procession of 17 UN Security Council resolutions demanding that Saddam Hussein verifiably destroy them. Hussein ignored those demands and committed numerous violations of the 1991 cease-fire agreement that suspended the war. In 2003, the US went back to war in part over the issue of WMD, deposing Hussein but coming up empty on the accusations of chemical and biological weapons, which prompted the “Bush lied” arguments that have echoed ever since. Occasionally, caches of chemical weapons have been found in Iraq, reviving the debate, but they have been weapons that had already been declared and transferred to UN control before the 2003 invasion.

If the WMD existed in Iraq, what happened to it? Many suspected that it got transferred to Syria prior to the 2003 invasion, but the New York Times reports today that the CIA actually did find at least some of the suspected and undeclared caches of chemical weapons — and destroyed them:

The Central Intelligence Agency, working with American troops during the occupation of Iraq, repeatedly purchased nerve-agent rockets from a secretive Iraqi seller, part of a previously undisclosed effort to ensure that old chemical weapons remaining in Iraq did not fall into the hands of terrorists or militant groups, according to current and former American officials.

The extraordinary arms purchase plan, known as Operation Avarice, began in 2005 and continued into 2006, and the American military deemed it a nonproliferation success. It led to the United States’ acquiring and destroying at least 400 Borak rockets, one of the internationally condemned chemical weapons that Saddam Hussein’s Baathist government manufactured in the 1980s but that were not accounted for by United Nations inspections mandated after the 1991 Persian Gulf war. …

In confidential declarations in the 1990s to the United Nations, Iraq gave shifting production numbers, up to 18,500. It also claimed to have destroyed its remaining stock before international inspectors arrived after the Persian Gulf war. …

The handoffs varied in size, including one of more than 150 warheads. American ordnance disposal technicians promptly destroyed most of them by detonation, the officials said, but some were taken to Camp Slayer, by Baghdad’s airport, for further testing.

This is the first time that there has been any media reporting on finds specific to the disputed munitions that Hussein refused to acknowledge. It sounds as though there were a large quantity of Borak rockets eventually procured, too, not just a few leftovers that might have been innocently overlooked by the previous dictatorship in Iraq. C.J. Chivers and Eric Schmitt also report that these were not the kind of exhausted and expired chemical weapons that the UN had been storing, but still potent enough to alarm the US when they were discovered.

Why this was kept quiet was anyone’s guess, but the secret was tightly held. Perhaps the CIA and Pentagon wanted to keep it under wraps so that they could quietly buy as many of the weapons off the black market as they could, without tipping their hand to the insurgency. That might have been good strategy, but the Pentagon kept it so quiet that it never told veterans serving in Iraq or the VA physicians that treated them later about the possibility that they had contact with chemical weapons from any source. It seems unlikely that the insurgents didn’t get their hands on any of the Boraks — and it’s not entirely clear that the US got them all, either.

This should recast the WMD debate from the 2003 invasion, but it probably won’t. At least so far, there’s no indication that the US found the new chemical- and biological-weapons programs that their faulty intelligence showed Saddam Hussein restarting between the two wars, and that will overshadow even a large number of undeclared sarin-filled Boraks in any attempt to show that the issue of WMD intel was at least nuanced. On the other hand, we’ve waited almost a decade to find this out, so it’s impossible to say what else may have been discovered and not declared by the Pentagon and CIA during that period. It may be another decade before we can safely assume anything.

Progressives Suddenly Realize They've Created Frankenstein

Jonathan Chait suddenly realizes that what he calls “political correctness” — i.e., the radical Left’s need to demonize, denounce, ban, shut down, and exile anyone who offends them with a contrary thought, a.k.a., “rage-whiners” — is a threat to good progressives like himself:

But it would be a mistake to categorize today’s p.c. culture as only an academic phenomenon. Political correctness is a style of politics in which the more radical members of the left attempt to regulate political discourse by defining opposing views as bigoted and illegitimate. Two decades ago, the only communities where the left could exert such hegemonic control lay within academia, which gave it an influence on intellectual life far out of proportion to its numeric size. Today’s political correctness flourishes most consequentially on social media, where it enjoys a frisson of cool and vast new cultural reach. And since social media is also now the milieu that hosts most political debate, the new p.c. has attained an influence over mainstream journalism and commentary beyond that of the old.

In a short period of time, the p.c. movement has assumed a towering presence in the psychic space of politically active people in general and the left in particular. “All over social media, there dwell armies of unpaid but widely read commentators, ready to launch hashtag campaigns and circulate Change.org petitions in response to the slightest of identity-politics missteps,” Rebecca Traister wrote recently in The New Republic.

[...]
Storming into bars and restaurants, locking themselves to concrete-filled-barrels and blocking Interstates . . . this is the progressive grassroots of 2015. This is the Left, capital-L. This is blind fury, lashing out at others for having the audacity to drink beverages, eat brunch, or commute in a manner that the self-appointed arbiters of justice on the Left deem insufficiently down with the cause. There is no actual “activism” here. There is no attempt at persuasion here. There is no thought here. There is only resentment and anger and a desire to lash out at anybody who isn’t one of them. There’s no agenda or plan to actually improve things. There’s no call to action. It’s just rage-whining.

Notice that there’s not a single prominent member of the Democratic party willing to call out this idiocy for what it is. Notice that the furies are disrupting life in Oakland, Boston, San Francisco, and New York City, places where Republicans, much less conservatives, are few and far between. The far Left is making life miserable for the rank-and-file Democrats, and Mayor de Blasio, Governors Andrew Cuomo and Jerry Brown, and President Obama are nowhere to be found, nothing to say. They can’t take the Left on too directly or too loudly.

[...]
The p.c. style of politics has one serious, possibly fatal drawback: It is exhausting. Claims of victimhood that are useful within the left-wing subculture may alienate much of America. The movement’s dour puritanism can move people to outrage, but it may prove ill suited to the hopeful mood required of mass politics. Nor does it bode well for the movement’s longevity that many of its allies are worn out. “It seems to me now that the public face of social liberalism has ceased to seem positive, joyful, human, and freeing,” confessed the progressive writer Freddie deBoer. “There are so many ways to step on a land mine now, so many terms that have become forbidden, so many attitudes that will get you cast out if you even appear to hold them. I’m far from alone in feeling that it’s typically not worth it to engage, given the risks.” Goldber wrote recently about people “who feel emotionally savaged by their involvement in [online feminism] — not because of sexist trolls, but because of the slashing righteousness of other feminists.” Former Feministing editor Samhita Mukhopadhyay told her, “Everyone is so scared to speak right now.”

That the new political correctness has bludgeoned even many of its own supporters into despondent silence is a triumph, but one of limited use.

Federal Report Suggests Injecting Poison Into Atmosphere To Cool Planet

In what was once considered a fringe idea to alter the weather conditions of our planet, a federal report was released Tuesday suggesting it might be time to take desperate measures to reverse the effects of climate change.

The two-volume report released by the National Academy of Sciences posed the idea of injecting sulfur pollution into the upper levels of the atmosphere to reflect the sun's heat away from the planet. Though the report stopped short of suggesting this method be immediately used, it said scientists should study and possibly test the idea soon to help keep global temperatures from rising out of control.

The injections would mimic the effects of a large volcanic eruption, which tend to have a cooling effect on the atmosphere, the report said. While it's believed this would be a relatively cheap and effective way to halt the progression of climate change, scientists are still worried that it could have dangerous, unintended side effects that they're not aware of just yet.

"Carrying out a geoengineering effort to modify the life-support system all life on Earth depends upon – the climate – is an extremely risky undertaking that is more likely to do harm than good," said Dr. Jeff Masters, Director of Meteorology at Weather Underground, who previously wrote about the topic of geoengineering. "Still, at the rate we are going, Team Civilization may be down multiple touchdowns late in the game later this century, leading us to try this desperate 'Hail Mary' pass, and it makes sense to fund some geoengineering research efforts."

Because warming has worsened and some countries might act unilaterally, scientists said research is needed to calculate the consequences.

Panel chairwoman Marcia McNutt, editor of the journal Science and former director of the U.S. Geological Survey, said in an interview that the public should read this report "and say, 'This is downright scary.' And they should say, 'If this is our Hail Mary, what a scary, scary place we are in.'"

This is the first time a government-associated science panel talked about the controlled small scale outdoor tests of the artificial cloud concept, called solar radiation management or SRM. But even then panelists downplayed the idea and said it would require some kind of government or other oversight before it is done.

"Yes, small scale outdoor tests might be allowed, but it wouldn't just be in the hands of scientists to decide what's allowable and what's not allowable," McNutt said. "Civil society needs to engage in these discussions where the line is to be drawn."

Some scientists worry that research itself it will make this type of planet hacking more likely to occur.

"This creates a bit of what we call a moral hazard," said Waleed Abdalati, a University of Colorado ice scientist and former NASA chief scientist who co-authored the report. "There will likely come a time we're going to want to know the ramifications of that kind of action. ... You're talking about potentially changing weather and climate. You don't want to do that without as good an understanding as you can possibly have."

I am here to just say one thing? Why do YOU hate people? and you should really give a valid reason not a shitty one that says 'Because Jews, Because Christians, Because Atheists'
and Yes, I am a people's person for those who ask, just tell me, come out of your shell and say why you HATE people like myself, and I could be here to clarify things to you, or not...
Also here is something that most muslims mistake about people's person like me is that "Christianity or Buddhism hate other religions" for this I say, Christianity or Buddhism does not hate ANY religion, but they suggest to 'invite' them to Christianity or Buddhism or Judaism, as slowly, and peacefully, even if they refuse, you can try and try, until it's their choice, you stop. and for all the wars that happened, it's because this other religion decided to come into war on Christianity or Buddhism or Judaism.

If you need anything clarified, I may not be here to answer you, don't be scared, I won't be offended by anyone, also haters, you can reply, I won't care Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Cheesy

In other news ->

there are only few  muslimans that hate people...not all....Wink

This means that there are only a few Muslims that follow their religion seriously.

Islam doesn't hate. Islam only conquers. Become Muslim or die. No hate. Only conquer... called, "convert to Islam or die."

I guess someone's patent on some useless medicine is going to expire soon.

My mom was diagnosed with 'high cholesterol' and instructed to take some medicine which she did briefly.  It made her joints swell up so that walking was painful (and she usually gets in several miles per day.)  She also read on-line about side effects including liver damage.  When she asked the doctor about it, he said "Oh, we can do liver transplants now."  If he was joking there was no give-away to that effect.  Needless to say, she threw the meds in the trash and ignores the cholesterol readings.  Most of my family has high cholesterol and most of them live into their mid 80's.

The more I think about this stuff the stronger my hypothesis that we normal citizens are really just the commodity in a handful of semi-competing people-farming operations.  Turns out that when a person is sick and worried about their health that is an outstanding time to milk them and their families for whatever can be shaken out of them.  It is utterly fucking criminal that this is allowed to happen IHO.

Now it is a stretch to expect that every doctor is 'in on the conspiracy' but at the end of the day doctors are not much different than any other fairly bright person except they have a bunch more years of indoctrination and a bunch more to lose by not turning a blind eye to the warts in the system.  I don't have to try real hard to imagine a very corrupt system surviving for a long time given the way things have evolved.

Palestinian Government Demands Role In Investigation Of The Three Students Shot Over A Parking Place In Chapel Hill

The Palestinian government called the murder of three young Muslims in North Carolina ‘terrorist’ killings and asked to be included in the US investigation in a statement Saturday.

Police charged Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, with shooting Deah Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19, in Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

Local authorities said they believe the killings followed a dispute over parking at the condominium complex where the four were neighbors, but Justice Department and FBI officials have launched an investigation into whether hate crime charges or other federal violations are warranted.

Calling Hicks ‘an American extremist and hateful racist,’ the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said the shootings were indicative of rising anti-Muslim discrimination in the United States.

‘We consider it a serious indication of the growth of racism and religious extremism which is a direct threat to the lives of hundreds of thousands of American citizens who follow the Islamic faith,’ said the ministry in a statement.

The statement made a request for ‘a serious investigation and the involvement of Palestinian investigators to clarify the circumstances of these assassinations and premeditated murders.’
