Federal Report Suggests Injecting Poison Into Atmosphere To Cool PlanetIn what was once considered a fringe idea to alter the weather conditions of our planet, a federal report was released Tuesday suggesting it might be time to take desperate measures to reverse the effects of climate change. The two-volume report released by the National Academy of Sciences posed the idea of injecting sulfur pollution into the upper levels of the atmosphere to reflect the sun's heat away from the planet. Though the report stopped short of suggesting this method be immediately used, it said scientists should study and possibly test the idea soon to help keep global temperatures from rising out of control. The injections would mimic the effects of a large volcanic eruption, which tend to have a cooling effect on the atmosphere, the report said. While it's believed this would be a relatively cheap and effective way to halt the progression of climate change, scientists are still worried that it could have dangerous, unintended side effects that they're not aware of just yet. "Carrying out a geoengineering effort to modify the life-support system all life on Earth depends upon – the climate – is an extremely risky undertaking that is more likely to do harm than good," said Dr. Jeff Masters, Director of Meteorology at Weather Underground, who previously wrote about the topic of geoengineering. "Still, at the rate we are going, Team Civilization may be down multiple touchdowns late in the game later this century, leading us to try this desperate 'Hail Mary' pass, and it makes sense to fund some geoengineering research efforts." Because warming has worsened and some countries might act unilaterally, scientists said research is needed to calculate the consequences. Panel chairwoman Marcia McNutt, editor of the journal Science and former director of the U.S. Geological Survey, said in an interview that the public should read this report "and say, 'This is downright scary.' And they should say, 'If this is our Hail Mary, what a scary, scary place we are in.'" This is the first time a government-associated science panel talked about the controlled small scale outdoor tests of the artificial cloud concept, called solar radiation management or SRM. But even then panelists downplayed the idea and said it would require some kind of government or other oversight before it is done. "Yes, small scale outdoor tests might be allowed, but it wouldn't just be in the hands of scientists to decide what's allowable and what's not allowable," McNutt said. "Civil society needs to engage in these discussions where the line is to be drawn." Some scientists worry that research itself it will make this type of planet hacking more likely to occur. "This creates a bit of what we call a moral hazard," said Waleed Abdalati, a University of Colorado ice scientist and former NASA chief scientist who co-authored the report. "There will likely come a time we're going to want to know the ramifications of that kind of action. ... You're talking about potentially changing weather and climate. You don't want to do that without as good an understanding as you can possibly have." http://www.weather.com/science/environment/news/intentional-global-cooling-federal-report

Yale Global Warming Protest Cancelled Due to SnowA Global Warming protest was cancelled at Yale University because of the cold weather and snow. Such cancellations seem to be rather frequent, as the weather just does not seem to cooperate with the Global Warming promoters. A small group of students with possibly too much time their on hands has been pushing Yale University to sell its investments in fossil fuel producing corporations. Other universities have encountered the same protests from small numbers of their students. It is still unclear how these students think harming the finances of their alma mater would be of any use in making the climate of Earth any more to their liking. It is unclear why the students fear warmer weather. Humans have always done better when the climate switched to warmer ambient temperatures. During the Medieval Climate Optimum the Vikings were able to farm areas of Greenland that are now locked in permafrost. Europe experienced improved crops due to the warmer weather, which ushered in the Renaissance and later the Industrial Revolution. Russian scientists are now predicting that a major Ice Age of several hundred years duration has now begun. Colder winters and later springs seem to support their prediction. http://collegeinsurrection.com/2015/02/yale-global-warming-protest-cancelled-due-to-snow/

Hey, hey! John Kitzhaber, our governor here in the U.S. state of Oregon, just ate the big one. I've not been paying much attention to local politics since they are mostly not covered except in mainstream media which I rarely indulge in these days, so I was caught by surprise. And to some degree by delight due to the nature of his downfall even though I've always thought the guy was OK. How did he fall? By being involved in exactly the kind of scamyness I've been increasingly convinced of as the driving force behind this whole enviro-socio- movement. And of which 'global climate change' is a primary tool. Everyone here (the few liberal friend I've talked to about it since hearing the news) has basically the same reaction...probably since they follow basically the same new sources: The poor old guy was probably taken advantage of by his soon-to-be (or not) wife who is a bad person (and the only such person in the whole entire eco-movement no doubt.) The oft-married Cylvia Hayes (aka, 'the green widow') strikes again. The reason I'm so delighted about this is that with luck it will prove to be a thread that just keeps unraveling and turns up years worth of bullying, theft, and corruption which has characterized the 'green' movement that has been especially active here in my fair state. I hope these scumbags undergo many sleepless nights and eventually there will be a knock on their door. Looks like a LOT of documents are being requested. If nothing else this will hopefully serve to discourage our state's DEQ from extorting others in the same manner they got me last year.

Bill Nye on Record Snow & Cold: Possible Connection Between Record Snow & Cold and Climate ChangeBoston has received over 7 feet of snow in the last 23 days. Climate change enthusiast Bill Nye appeared on MSNBC, Monday, to lobby the network for more global warming cheerleading and the importance of linking all weather events to the phenomena. Talking to Joy Reid about the cold and snow hitting much of the country, he implored, “…Just say the word climate change. Just, like, ‘It could be climate change. It’s a possible connection to climate change. Is this evidence of climate change?'” Nye demanded, “Could you just toss that in now and then?” A compliant Reid agreed: “Absolutely. I would like to toss that in every single time.” Nye then stated the obvious: “MSNBC is, in many ways, regarded as a progressive station.” He spoke to the few conservatives watching MSNBC: “We need you.” Nye quickly turned insulting, “But if the conservative side are going to continue to deny what 97 percent of the scientists in the world are saying, we’re not going to reach a consensus. We are not going to make progress.”

Everyone who plays gambling at a casino should be able to understand the basic facts about this climate change discussion. You can have a run of luck either way when you're at a slot machine---this doesn't affect the overall pattern where the house has an edge. It's a numbers game, it's always distracting to point to a single event. If you want to understand the climate, you have to look at averages and large data sets. All the stuff pointing to "this storm" or "that heat wave" is a bit misleading, imo.

I think everyone who has some basic education understands that. Science is clear and unambigous about global warming, and everyone with basic eduction knows it. So why are people like Willikon using anectodes to "disprove" it, and other media using weather to "prove" and/or "disprove" it? For the media the answer is simple, sensationalism gets views and sales or ad revenue. For the ideologues dominating this thread I don't have an answer, but I guess their motivation is "If the Party says two plus two make five, then it is so."

One of the most surprising things I learned, and fairly early in my research, is that the 'party line' that 'deniers' are especially politically motivated is simply not the case. It seems to be true at the media level, but falls apart at the scientific level. Many of the so-called 'deniers' in scientific circles seem to be remarkably active in a diverse range of subjects many of which are decidedly on the 'progressive' end of the generally perceived political spectrum. In the pure science end of things, the defining characteristic of a 'denier' (aka, 'skeptic') is that they are innately skeptical. Often enough they are also either tenured or retired for some reason. --- On this topic, I'll again say to my skeptic commrades that there is nothing inherently defective with the concept that 'global climate change', or even the old term 'global warming', would result in such absurdities as global warming protests being canceled due to cold weather or ships sent to study polar ice loss being frozen in. That said, a cynic such as myself will note the utility of changing ' global warming' to ' global climate change' to take advantage of the fact that it allows any weather event to be more widely used to bolster one's position (that ultimately rich people need to be paying carbon taxes.) And to a skeptic such as myself it is difficult to ignore how regularly this happens these days.

I just see this thread, and from other posts can only conclude that the reason for it was to reinforce the party line, in this case the USA Republican Party. Funnily Orwell also mentioned young earth creationism in " 1984", at a time when it was just some crackpot cultist spleen, and he predicted it to become a major party platform. The obly thing I agree is that using the word "climate change" as a weasel word to appease the self-appointed sceptics, uf those allegations od your crowd are true, wad both futile and silly

That must be why einstein had to wait so long to be recognized... Too many deniers who asked for proofs.

Einstein would be still waiting in his graves for the crackpots and ideologists to die out. There are legions of self-appointed scepticists, ready to disprove relativity, and likely photon theory as well. If only there was a profitable industry to bankroll them... Molecule physics, atmospheric physics, all also gad to go through the treadmill of presenting evidence. Not proof, because proof belongs to mathematics not science. But the party says that science is a lie, and the earth is 6000 years old, and 2+2 might be five, if it is profitable to state such.

Bill Nye Tells MSNBC To Say Climate Change, Not Global Warming, When It’s Cold Out
Words are everything, even in the global warming debate. TV personality Bill Nye the “Science Guy” told MSNBC’s Joy Reid to use the phrase climate change, not global warming, when it’s so cold out. “Let’s not confuse or interchange climate change with global warming,” Nye told Reid on Monday. “Global warming – The world is getting warmer. There is more carbon [dioxide] holding in more heat.” “So when the climate changes, some places get colder,” Nye added. “And the thing that’s really consistent with climate change models is this variance where it’s cold, it’s warm, it’s cold, it’s warm… So what I would hope for, my dream, Joy, is that you all, you and the news business would just say the word climate change.” http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/17/bill-nye-tells-msnbc-to-say-climate-change-not-global-warming-when-its-cold-out/----------------------------- It is not hard to imagine Einstein slapping bill nye silly for such propaganda... Even you cannot defend that billy boy...

Nah, but doesn't he have a point that something getting very cold isn't very appropriately named "warming". Climate change *is* a better word to describe some places getting cold, some places getting warm, etc. Right?
