hmm , ok, well now this is confusing ;\
so it's one thing to say that we give you our btc as a donation and get a token (woot?) as replacement
the newbie account, and asking for it as a donation, why would anybody in their right mind send you their btc?
for a worthless token anyone can make in five mins?
and you knightdk, why would you put yourself involved in this shit?
Cause I get fees  Grin

how easy would it be for this newbie dev to take this btc
Not very. He will be sending me the XBV to be distributed and I will be distributing that before I send him the btc.

hell we couldnt even bitch, it's worded as DONATIONS
what incentive is there for you? seems alot of risk...
or is this dev your alt account?
cause no reputable member would escrow this unless they were involved imo
Nope. He is not my alt.

6823  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:42:40 PM
Actually, it seems that it keeps crashing every few minutes. The Armory program, that is.
Can you post the log files?
6824  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:31:21 PM
I did as you said, and Armory still said the same thing, only this time it had a "Go Online!" button next to it. When I clicked this button, nothing happened. Some additional information that might be helpful is: I'm running Windows 10 and the specified datadir is K:\Bitcoin\Bitcoin
Oh, I forgot something. You need to then do the same thing to the shortcut for armory when you do this except instead of the option being --datadir, you do
Code:
 --satoshi-datadir=<path to datadir>
6825  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:16:53 PM
I forgot to add, that when I change the home directory and restart Armory, it says it is offline.
Try starting bitcoin core manually. Uncheck the option to allow armory to start up Bitcoin core automatically then start Bitcon Core manually. To start it manually with the data directory in another place, right click the shortcut to start Bitcoin Core and click Properties. Then in the textbox next to "Target" add to the end of the stuff in there
Code:
 --datadir=<path to datadir>
where <path to datadir> is the path to the location you want the data directory to be. Then click OK and run the program from that shortcut.
6826  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Directory Change on: April 10, 2016, 04:01:06 PM
So, the other day, I was downloading the Blockchain via Armory and when it stopped, I found out that it was downloading to my appdata folder on my main hard drive and it had filled up. How can I change the location of the blockchain to another drive?
If you go into settings, you can change the data directory of bitcoind and it will download the blocks to that other location.
6827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: is this fake transaction?Looking for quick help ! on: April 10, 2016, 03:21:06 PM
I sold some mrai coins and buyer paid me . but i was about to sell more but when i look at block explore nothing showing on my balance. can you check guy is this fake transaction or not? when i search hash on blockchain its showing

Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: The transaction is not final

Tx: https://blockchain.info/tx/91251ef42979ce417ca009120a6ccbad591c1b7d2c4bd074a299367edaac314d
There is no such thing as a "fake transaction". What happened is that the transaction is not final, meaning the nsequence field of an input is not 0xffffffff. This means that the transaction opts-into RBF so it could be replaced while the transaction is unconfirmed. The best thing for you to do is to wait for it to receive one confirmation before continuing to do anything else with this person.
6828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of Bitcoin security and all encryption as we know it? on: April 10, 2016, 02:05:24 AM
This has already been discussed for a while and many many times here. I'll sum up why we don't have to worry too much and how quantum computers won't be the end of the world for Bitcoin.

First of all, there are no known quantum computer algorithms which can make hashing sha256 faster or for finding preimages of sha256 hashes or collisions. Even so, Bitcoin is fairly well protected as the difficulty would just adjust and the double sha256 hash puts an extra step in there which would make any attack more difficult.

Secondly, the only way that quantum computers would mess with Bitcoin is by finding the private key to a public key. However, you can protect against this by not reusing addresses. Since the public key is not revealed until a transaction is spent, any attacker would not be able to find the private key to a public key that is not known until it is revealed in a transaction. By that point, the Bitcoin is spent, and although they could attempt to double spend it, I don't think quantum computers bring that speed down to less than ten minutes. The only issue is if people don't include enough fees and the transaction takes a while to become confirmed. Then there could possibly be possibility of the Bitcoin being stolen.

Lastly, I think the developers would be able to come to consensus on a need to hard fork Bitcoin to quantum resistant algorithms should there be need. In fact, they probably will deploy quantum resistant cryptography before quantum computers become advanced and cheap enough to be used by attackers for attacking Bitcoin. Quantum computers will take several years to become commonplace and by that point, I think everyone could come to consensus to upgrade.
6829  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: No outputs on: April 09, 2016, 06:45:01 PM
If you use OP_RETURN I think it will be standard.
OP_RETURN (one per tx) is standard output
tx example:
https://blockchain.info/tx/8ddc09e3986cb6e267d35e814c3e0fb05d68dd08a560fa18759ef58b2a72ef44

Thanks amalcin.  That is a very good example of what I am talking about.
But could you ever get an transaction accepted with , "out":[], "lock_time";0,....  ?
No.
6830  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: No outputs on: April 09, 2016, 05:25:25 PM
No. You cannot have no outputs, however you can have an output with a zero amount so that all the Bitcoin still goes to fees.

Is such a tx "standard"?

(i.e. would normal nodes propagate it?)

If you use OP_RETURN I think it will be standard.
6831  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: No outputs on: April 09, 2016, 05:19:49 PM
Is it possible to form a valid transaction that gets into the blockchain that has no outputs.  I.e. all of the inputs go to fees.
No. You cannot have no outputs, however you can have an output with a zero amount so that all the Bitcoin still goes to fees.
6832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction Fee to other Wallet on: April 09, 2016, 04:55:04 PM
You can create a client which always creates an output to a specified address. You could also then make it a consensus rule for the altcoin that requires that every transaction must have an output to that address otherwise the transaction is invalid.

Good idea, thanks.
Can you be more specific in second point?
In your altcoin, you can add to the validation rules a rule that requires that every single transaction must have that output otherwise the transaction is rejected as invalid. Any blocks containing those invalid transactions are also rejected as invalid. This means that changing the rule could cause a fork and anyone who doesn't follow that rule is producing invalid transactions.

6834  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi, first day here, question about dangers of buying a full member account on: April 09, 2016, 02:49:37 PM
First off I want to say thank you very much for replying with the well thought out, insightful and very very helpful answer. Im just a little confused on the sig thing, because after I have just gained 2 activity, I noticed something under my name that is a link and a picture to something called youbit (or along those lines) did a signature company automatically attach themselves to my account?
No, that is an ad. The forum sells advertising space and underneath the first post of every page, an advertisement will be added when the page has more than 2 posts.

And how do I add my BTC address to my account, I did not see it under the "edit account options".
When you go to your profile, go to "Forum Profile Information" and there is a space to add stuff to your profile.

So how long would it take to earn 120 activity if i was very active every day on the forum?
It will take about 17-18 weeks if you make at least 14 posts each week.

Or is it in my best interest to buy an account,
It depends. If you want the account now and make money now, then you can buy an account. However if you want to keep your username and build up your account "personality" then you should not buy an account.

although I do not know about escrow and I am total noob in everything. Im assuming when the account is bought, after (or before?) i pay him, I change the email and he confrms it with his email in order to make it so that he cannot hack it back corrrect? Or will he always have the option to hack it back? You have a lot of activity and are very highly ranked, do you mind sharing your secrets? I always knew BTC existed, but today i stumbled upon this site and now im in awe, im fascinated, im addicted. It is like a hobby to me all the ways you can earn it by offering services and such.
When you use escrow, you send your money to a trusted person and the seller sends the account details to that same person. That person will check that the account is what the seller claimed it was and that it has a signed message from an old address posted by the account. That signed message proves that the seller owned the account. The escrow usually will change the password and email. He then sends the account to you and you check everything and change the password and email and also unset the security question. If you like it, you tell the escrow to release the Bitcoin to the seller, otherwise you can dispute (or the seller can) and the escrow is supposed to mediate the dispute.

Anyway, sorry if I rambled, but do you have any advice on what I should to do to get started right away? And I dont mind spending like 20-30$ bucks if that will give me a good head start. I rather spend less, but what do you reccomend, and how did you get up so high (if you dont mind sharing your secrets) oh yes and is it true you can only earn 14 activity every 2 weeks? Or can you earn unlimited activity, i was confused about that part also, I apologize. Im on a 28 hour study binge and this is my coffee / procrastinate time so my typing and english sounds like that of a grade 3 student
You can only earn 14 activity for each two week period (it is a fixed schedule on the forum). However, if an account has potential activity, meaning that it made a post in a two week activity period but did not make 14 posts, then in another two week period that account could make more than 14 acitivity.
6835  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi, first day here, question about dangers of buying a full member account on: April 09, 2016, 02:01:48 PM
How does the account rank system work?
You earn activity points as you post. For each two week period, you can earn up to 14 activity points. The activity is calculated as the minimum of either your post count or 14*the number of two week periods you have posted in. To get to full member, you need 120 activity.

I understand you need to be a full member in order to get a signature that will pay you for meaningful posts, and i will glady pay the 10 bucks or whatever it costs, but what if 6 months from now or whenever, the account gets "recovered" is there a way the original owner of the account can hack it back and steal it for themselves?
The original owner could recover the account through the email, which is why it is recommended that you change the email. If the original owner attempts to recover it normally by claiming it was hacked, then you will have to provide proof that the account sale happened by providing PMs and having the escrow vouch for you.

When you buy an account, always use an escrow.

Also, is there a limit to a number of threads you can make a day?
I don't think so, but if you make a ton of threads in a day, it may get you banned for spamming.

And do you need to have a certain number of threads to gain ranks? Is 84 threads considered a full member?
The number of threads you make does not matter, only the number of posts in the two week activity periods that you have made.

Im just so confused right now and I really have alot of time on my hands and would love to get into this hobby. I do have a BTC wallet set up with circle, but its acting up right now and probably wont let me deposit funds until tomorrow.
I recommend that you use a desktop wallet.

Is there any other basic information I need to know about this popular way of earning bit coins through posting stuff? And is it threads only that count towards earning the btc from signatures, or is it comments as well. Sorry if i broke any rules, Im just so amazed by this i want to dive in head first. Im preparing to purchase like 20-30$ in btc just to have something in my wallet to start with.
The most important thing about joining a signature campaign is to never spam. If you spam, you will get banned from this forum. I thing to remember about bans is that they apply to the person behind the account, not the account itself. If you try to post with another account and it is found out you already have a ban, that ban will be increased and your other account will be banned.

For posting, some key things to remember. If you are posting for the sake of boosting your postcount, don't post. If you are answering a question and someone else has already answered the question, don't post unless you are providing more detail and clarity. Don't post the same thing twice in a thread. If you are going to make consecutive posts, just do it in one post and use the separator line to split the post for responses to different people.

When you create new threads for questions, always use the search first and see if someone has already asked the same thing and has been answered.

So could anyone help me out and give any advice on my scenario? And what is the some of the better if not best signature company to use? I see so many and I dont even know how to sign up, I dont know how to attach my BTC address to my account, etc.
There is a list of sig campaigns here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0. Choose one you like.

Is there a guide somewhere on this form that answers all these noob questions? If so IM SO SO sorry and I deserve to be banned for being a shmuck. Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully help me out. Smiley
Probably. You could use the search function to see if one already existed.

6837  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Protocol specification on: April 09, 2016, 01:47:37 PM
The Protocol specification on bitcoin.it is out of date.  Although the Bitcoin Core client itself is the specification (according to most I hear from), it is useful to have a natural language reference.  Where can I get an up to date English version of the bitcoin Protocol specification?

sdp
The guide and reference here: https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-documentation should be what you are looking for.

It means the the socket that armory uses is in use. This probably means you already have armory open.
6839  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.94.1 is out on: April 08, 2016, 07:18:35 PM
See above! I strongly suspect that's your issue (git checkout master can only have performed that exact command; etotheipi's master branch is still on 93.3, whereas the goatpig master branch is at 94.1)

does goatpig have 0.94.1 git tagged?:

Code:
Ubuntu:~/BitcoinArmory$ git tag -v v0.94.1
error: 811798a9282d216e0a450fe342d8a4671fee01d3: cannot verify a non-tag object of type commit.
error: could not verify the tag 'v0.94.1'
It isn't signed.

He does. I suspect there's some minor error in the version string you're supplying, but that's only a guess. I don't make use of that particular git command, so can't help you specifically with it from off the top of my head unfortunately.

ok, got it.

now how do i delete Armory's copy of the blockchain?
Go to the armory data directory and delete everything in the "databases" folder.
6840  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: protocol vulnerability? on: April 08, 2016, 02:48:08 PM

I readed this.
ONLY data from the PREVIOUS transaction is signed!
Data in CURRENT transaction is not signet and not protected from changing.
Right?

NO! With sighash all, all of the data in the current transaction, except for the signature itself, is signed. This prevents any transaction data from being changed.

Where this wrote? Give me please link to any document or source code?

Now i can see only
Quote
includes the txid and vout from the previous transaction
and
Quote
also includes the pubkey script from the previous transaction

See https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-guide#signature-hash-types

It's also in the source somewhere.
