am i aloud to bring 20k cash from usa to canada to purchase bitcoins? somebody close to me is selling at spot. and it's only a 2 hour drive for me. and i'll be able to make and save some money with those coins.

is it considered money laundering?

also what will the border say if i have 20k cash?

They'll ask to see your Report of International Transportation of Currency and Monetary Instruments FinCEN 105 (formerly CF 4790) and when you don't produceit, they will confiscate your money.

You can take as much cash as you like over the border but if you have $10+ you need to fill out that form.  Also you can't split the amount between you and a spouse or a friend... it will be confiscated.

 Fill out the form.

when i come back and don't have cash anymore. does it show up in their systems. are they gonna ask where i spent it? can i say i bought bitcoins? or is that money laundering?

Tell them you blew the wad at the casino.
Honestly I haven't done it for bitcoin so I don't know... I guess you could just tell them you bought bitcoin.

6843  Economy / Speculation / Re: Deutsche Bank: How long before it crashes now? on: October 01, 2016, 12:28:22 PM
It's a matter of time Deutsche Bank collapses, starting a new 2008 event, just worse. Bitcoin will obviously skyrocket as a result, the question is when is it going to face it's inevitable collapse? I reckon it's going to happen anywhere next year.

I hope you're right & bitcoin does prosper from a potential Deutsch Bank crash but how do we know there won't be somebody or something to save their ass?

I know the EU is fucked & will eventually crumble but we all got excited over Cyprus & Greece & they got away with it, bitcoin didn't get anything out of their misfortune.

Bitcoin got exposure from the Greek Crisis.

Greek Cash Crisis Fuels Bitcoin Activity:

The laptop would meet its death long before it found even one block, not even getting the difficult reset block.

I know there is a 25% stagger for difficulty going up - is there one for going down?

I'm not sure of the meaning of "stagger" but the difficulty change is limited to a factor of 4 during any retarget.  I believe this is the relevant code:

Code:

57     // Limit adjustment step
58     int64_t nActualTimespan = pindexLast->GetBlockTime() - nFirstBlockTime;
59     if (nActualTimespan < params.nPowTargetTimespan/4)
60         nActualTimespan = params.nPowTargetTimespan/4;
61     if (nActualTimespan > params.nPowTargetTimespan*4)
62         nActualTimespan = params.nPowTargetTimespan*4;
63

64     // Retarget
65     const arith_uint256 bnPowLimit = UintToArith256(params.powLimit);
66     arith_uint256 bnNew;
67 ...

So it compares the time take for the last 2016 blocks to one-quarter and four times the desired timespan for 2016 blocks (which I think is 1209600 seconds) and if it is greater than 4838400 or less than 302400 the timespan is set to one of those values accordingly and used to calculate the new difficulty.

6845  Economy / Speculation / Re: Deutsche Bank: How long before it crashes now? on: October 01, 2016, 05:25:49 AM
Two questions, apologies if the answers are obvious:

1. Why is Deutsche Bank in such trouble? Why do believe it will fall so easily and so timely?

2. Why will Bitcoin "obviously skyrocket as a result"? More false predictions on this Forum than upticks of the price in a day!

Thanks.

 1. The DoJ levied a fine of $14b against Deutsche Bank for the mis-selling of sub-prime mortgage loans packaged as securities.  They had only set aside about $5b for this inevitability.

1b. There are still many major banks in the EU that have to face the music.

 2. I'm not sure there is a correlation between the banking sector and Bitcoin although Bitcoin is touted as an alternative to central banking hence it would seem a safer haven when massive fines are being levied on the banks.

Hey! It's a speculation thread not a rational speculation thread.  DYOD Smiley

Hi,
I’m looking for bash/cron skills on Kali for a school project, experience working on raspi is a plus.

The project is to make a one click (via physical button attached to a raspi 3 or ideally raspi zero) deauthentication “attack”.

I don’t quite realize how much work is necessary so payment is to be discussed, but it shouldn't be very complicated. I'm looking only for the deauth part, no additionnal attack will be executed and the product isn't targetted at pentesters so no aditionnal personalization features are required.

Hit me up with any questions.

Cheers,
Q.

How the heck is disrupting someone's WiFi related to a Bitcoin project?  This should be moved to off-topic.

but he can pay with bitcoin,so i think this topic fits  here, no?

That is so strange.  I swear I saw it posted in the Project Development section.
I guess I owe you an apology QuentinA.

Don't worry, the US doesn't want to be responsible for another bank bailout - they can't afford it.  They'll simply lower the fine until Germany can bail out Deutsche Bank if required.

I think it will be great for Bitcoin though Wink

6848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Providence ICO on: September 30, 2016, 09:52:34 PM
Yes, if all goes according to plan, we will hard fork/upgrade Bitcoin by issuing 21 million BTC on a private ledger. Our fee is Bitcoin previously burned i.e. counterparty offering. I'm proposing 1:1 trade in on a peg to a final burn address. This will save Bitcoin technically and enable miners to keep going and keep trading in. I proposed this because I see the banks configuring to adapt Ripple's technology. The mainstream could shift away from Bitcoin.

Providence's success does not depend on this upgrade.

 Thank you!

So as interesting as this might sound to investors, your post does not belong in this section and as I wanted to say initially but was too polite, GTFO.
6849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Providence ICO on: September 30, 2016, 07:55:39 PM
Since we don't have an Autobiography thread, you should probably move this to off-topic or Altcoin discussion... after all, it's really about Ripple.

No, it's about leveraging capital and talent to produce a new enterprise on an upgraded Bitcoin.

I'm not seeing it.  It says private ledger.

6852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GPU Coin - Full PoS - 15% on: September 30, 2016, 04:53:27 PM
So having heard nothing for a while from the founder I perused the dedicated GPUcoin website yet found nothing recent there save about 81 spammy posts from some user calling himself paterickfag.  Maybe I got left behind here and everyone else is hanging out somewhere on a GPUCoin smartphone app?  At any rate, I decided to get out while I could get still my mining investment back.  It was I who tanked the coin on Yobit today - yes I'm the idiot who bought the book this time.  Weak hands have left the building.

I actually made a little bit on this venture but it's not nearly enough to retire on (as I had hoped) so I'm going donate a tiny bit to a worthy charity.  I'm creating a bitcoin address that begins with 1GPUCoin from which I will send the coin.  I'm thinking in some way it will immortalize the existence of GPUcoin in the bitcoin blockchain.  I would appreciate suggestions for charities that accept Bitcoin.  I'll update here once the donation is sent.

did you see it broke 100 sats !!! whoever bought that load you sold is laughing all the way to the bank for sure !!

 Yeah thanks!
I also missed the 100 sats in July when I was on vacation.  I wasn't meant to be the guy to make it rich on this coin Wink
Good luck to the holders!

6854  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: SELL/TRADE LED Grow Lights. on: September 30, 2016, 11:39:27 AM
Is this used to grow weed only?

I used to propagate Fuschia by taking cuttings in the fall, dipping them in some IBA (rooting hormone) and putting them under grow lamps in the basement.

Also I would start some of my tomato plants from seed under grow lamps to get an early start.  It gets you a few extra weeks out of the season.
I wonder if you can tan under those grow lights?
6855  Other / Archival / Re: BTC puzzle! 0.5 BTC on: September 30, 2016, 11:23:05 AM
That is very disappointing.
If we look at it from another perspective, it's actually good news because if we can't solve this puzzle even with the clues, imagine how safe our Bitcoins are from brute force cracking Wink
Well... maybe they're not THAT safe (if we get clues Wink)...

So at around 1509 hrs UTC on 28th September (around 0409 hrs on the 29th local)... my script spat out another possible hit... I was working a night shift and so I didn't actually get around to checking it until around 8 hours later.

Amongst the 3 new possible hits that had been generated, one started with "1qk...."... could this be it?? I quickly checked on blockchain.info... "Final Balance: 0.5001 BTC"... WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!  Shocked So I quickly imported the private key into my wallet and transferred my newfound loot into my own personal address. Grin

The private key turned out to be: 5JKPapJwgyEij3sxYRAEnixyiFgxqkVhgZXv9bWWknBexegx6tM

[redacted]

Analysis after finding the key shows that in addition to my (thankfully correct) assumptions on upper/lower case, that black tiles were all uppercase, while the red and darker green tiles were all lowercase.

In the end, the script only got through just over 1,103,000,000 keys (in just under 12 hours) before I got lucky:

I sent a note to the puzzle creator to let them know...  and I have created a PasteBin with my source code in case anyone wants to see my pretty ugly and untidy python code Wink

Congratulations!
6856  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Import/Sweep Key option no longer available on Blockchain.info!!!!! Help on: September 30, 2016, 02:24:16 AM
I just recently logged back into my blockchain.info account. I have a paper wallet. I want to sweep my private key into my block chain account like I always did in the past. On their website, there is no option to do so anymore!!! Does anyone know how I can do this without having to download their app?

 There is.

On the left side of the screen:

 Click on settings

 Then click on adresses

Now look you should see:  Imported Addresses (0 BTC)
and to the right of that a button that says Manage Addresses

Click that and you can enter your private key in a text box and I think there is also a button for a QR code scanner.

Hope it helps.

You can use copyrighted material for teaching, parody, criticism, news or commentary under fair dealing or fair use doctrines without obtaining permission of the copyright owner.  Of course the laws are regional so you should check in your country to be sure.  Also, there isn't really anything to prevent a company from trying to sue you or at least siccing a lawyer on you... just to scare you into "compliance".  That being said, if you have the knowledge and confidence that your usage falls within the fair use doctrine, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

my website will be posting reviews about games and posting upcoming game trailers.

also if i add a paid membership status in the future i wont owe these company loyalty's right?

I wouldn't think that would be the case but I'm neither a finance lawyer nor an intellectual property lawyer.  If you plan to make big money from your site, get some actual legal advice.

Yeah memberships would not come into place for a few years from now if i even choose to add them.

Thanks for helping me i always thought posting images would be illegal, but now reading into copyright law on review sites seems i can Smiley

Do you have a wallet address i can tip you at, since your help was very much appreciated.

I have a wallet address in my profile but it's not really necessary to tip me.  I enjoy helping others.
