It is sort of funny that this message got cited live by Tomas on World Crypto Network..   it was at minute 50 and 44 seconds  (you can hear it right here (queued in and everything).

He read it (as a "shout out"), and he said, looks they are allowing shout-outs, but he did not speak of the substance of the message, so admittedly, he must not be a WO regular (or perhaps a forum regular).. not that anyone would automatically get the context.

In my world, it's unfathomable that someone doesn't know JJG.

Okay Bitcoin, the Leafs managed to pull off a win; your turn!
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 01, 2024, 01:53:03 AM
Compared to the Leafs, Bitcoin is looking fine to me tonight.

Buddy, Buddy. Wherefore art thou Buddy?

Richie? You didn't murder our premier WO contributor did you?

Hopefully he's just been busy working on his tax return.

I sure hope he's OK.

As far as I can tell talkimg seems to be back to normal once again; Buddy should wake up soon.

 Bitcoin is so exciting.

any boost in pricing?

I think there was a bit of front-running but then the price dropped a bit.  It'll go up Smiley

Where is everybody?

Even Chartbuddy is AWOL. Did Buddy get food poisoning or or catch a virus and die.

Maybe it's Macaffee's fault. Or his ghost. Damn viruses.

I was abnormally busy today for some reason:

not sure I understand this.

As a miner must I check what pools are licensed?
I don't think so.  It would be provable that the sats sent to you were proceeds from newly minted block rewards - I can't see how they could possibly imply money laundering in this case.

BTC sent to hashers is a product of block rewards and fees that might be paid by money launderers... Arguably miners are facilitating the money-laundered derived transactions.

~snip

Block rewards don't exist until mined and as for the fees, the on-boarding with fiat is already FINCEN'd which is why there are no non-KYC exchanges dealing in US currency and also why they're seeking a jail term for ChangPeng Zhao.  Going after miners to prevent money-laundering would be a duplication of efforts and while the US gov't (or any gov't is not above wasting money and duplicating efforts it's more often than not for political rather than criminal reasons ie healthcare, education, taxation.  Anyway, there is documentation on virtual currency mining and it always points back to this document:

https://www.fincen.gov/resources/statutes-regulations/administrative-rulings/application-fincens-regulations-virtual-0

There's a phone number at the bottom philipma1057 can call directly for proper advice rather than relying on my (likely flawed) interpretation.
10  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: VanitySearch (Yet another address prefix finder) on: April 28, 2024, 03:40:13 PM
etc, all about additionally 10 millions similar strings.
That's cute. You're wasting computing power to prove to yourself that you'll never find the private key to someone else's Bitcoin address by brute-forcing it. Keep it up, convince yourself how secure Bitcoin is.

Thank you for your wishes.
Do you think my input file is correct? And why some errors or warnings pop up when I load it?

So rather than take LoyceV's advice about the larger problem you have using VanitySearch with such an input file, you prefer to fix the minor issue of computer memory allocation to continue the insanity?  Maybe it's cold where you are and you need a warm computer to take the chill off.  To each his own.  Provided you have enough memory available, here's the potential fix:

The memory needed to transfer results from GPU to CPU depends on the number of prefixes your search for, the number of threads and the rareness of the prefix(es).
The maximum number of hits per kernel call is maxFound = gridSize*1024*6
If you have enough memory available, you can specify -m gridSize*1024*6 to avoid the error.

Note: The corresponding amount of shared memory needed is 28*maxFound + 4 bytes.

Hey philipma1957!  Now's your chance to catch up!  Go go go!

I mean, that sucks.  I thought we had a imgur replacement but...

↑ That's just foreshadowing of the future reality of bitcoin value.

Just look at the sheer stupidity in "news" articles these days.

Apparently the dollar has lost 99.9% of its value overnight?  Cheesy

US approves $95bn aid package for Ukraine and Israel
https://uk.yahoo.com/news/senate-passes-ukraine-aid-deal-040200462.html

Quote
US officials said about $1bn (£802,000) worth of the aid could be on its way shortly, with the bulk following in the coming weeks.

A billion, a million, 802,000. What's the difference eh?

Used to be the UK billion was 10^12. Perhaps they corrected in the wrong direction...

You know, I've seen articles in English language newspapers where the term lakh was used to describe quantity and I had no f@#$ing idea that what was.  I thought it was a Ferengi term from Deep Space Nine but it turned out to mean 100,000 of something.  Never mind... that still doesn't work.  I've just stopped reading and listening to news altogether.  It's easier than trying to decipher it.

My local coffee shop McDonalds doesn't accept Bitcoin yet but I just sit outside of it with a sign that reads "The Bitcoin tx fee is too damn high today!  A little help please." and eventually someone buys my coffee.

FTFY

hahahahahaha

I know you well enough to realize that you are not so cultured as to go to an actual "coffee shop."

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Okay,  I have to admit this is true, however... story time!
Last summer, I discovered a nice little oasis in the hot, noisy, crowded, (yet otherwise charming and wonderful) capital city of Romania called "Beans & Dots" tucked away on a side street, through the archway between two buildings that comprise and old (also unfinished) but beautiful piece of architecture called Universal Palace.   I like to send postcards when I travel and based on the images I saw online, I thought this would be the perfect place to write them out.  Even with the aid of google maps, it took some doing to find it but eventually, we did.  So I looked over the menu and ordered an Americano  - I think it was close to 20 Lei so yeah... culture.  I don't pay that much here for a coffee but hey, I was on vacation.  Then when I got my coffee, I asked for a bit of milk in it.  The guy looked confused and asked me some questions like "You want milk in it?  What kind of milk?  How much milk?"  Then he asked me to wait a second and went for reinforcements.  I was thinking either my Romanian was really bad or I should have asked for milk up front because it was extra but another guy came over and asked the same thing while the initial guy went over the the barista who had made my coffee and said something to him which made him turn around to get a look at the freak who asked for milk in his coffee.  Eventually, the guy handed me a container of milk and told me to put in as much as I wanted.
It's a nice place.  They have lots of room to stretch out, tables with charging ports and free wifi as well.  I think it's kind of a place where freelance workers go to do whatever it is they do.  Anyway, on the last day of our vacation we went back there.  This time, I got fancy and asked for an AeroPress coffee and, again, I asked for milk when I got it... the barista was the same but the one who brought my coffee to the counter wasn't there the previous time.   We had a similar conversation about the milk but this guy went directly to the barista who turned around quickly to look, recognized me and and then yelled "Hellloooo!"  (I actually had a conversation with him before the left the previous time).  Turns out it's unusual to put a bit of milk in your coffee there - you either go full latte or go home I guess.

Whatever difference might exist is beyond my ability to figure it out.  In other words, I need some kind of a further hint.

Half of the Bitcoin disappears as it moves over the guys head which doesn't happen in the original.

Happy 420, guys!

My local pizza place has the spirit!

19  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 20, 2024, 01:29:03 PM

Thank you.  I feel as though people didn't see the difference... I know it's pretty subtle and if you've seen the original, on seeing the revised halvening version your mind might play tricks but I posted this one for the last 10 blocks.  They will get out of synch with one another because I changed the timing on a couple of frames - apologies in advance.

fees will stay high from now on.

That's been said many times over the years and has not come true yet. We will see.

have you looked at the mempool from Jan 2023 to april 2024

look  at it again.

do you realize that a 1 sat fee minimum would be 16 cents if btc is 💯 K

btc main chain is dead for small coin moves.

so LN

or ltc/doge for small value moves is what will take over.

it is simply a matter of math.

Despite the mempool, and prior to this latest increase coming into the halving, fees were around 10 sats. I don't consider that to be expensive. Buying a coffee was always unrealistic, LN is fine for that.
