Let's do the math, because dollars make no sense when talking about a metal: $10,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollar and $55,000,000 per tons. That's 182 billion tons. Now let's see what National Geographic has to say: one geoscientist calculated that there are 1.6 quadrillion tons of gold in the core—that’s enough to gild the entire surface of the planet half-a-meter (1.5 feet) thick Why bother with an asteroid, if the earth's core holds 8800 times more gold?

maybe they can just, you know, burn their trash in incinerators for electricity They do that already, it produces about 1% of the total electricity. In the end it'll also boil down to proper design. I've seen illustrations of houses that uses water heated by the sun to warm to home, maybe they do that there. I mean, the sun still shines during winter, except if there's a blizzard. Much easier: windows facing the sun. It helps, but it's not enough.

If only Germans start to take the nuclear energy pill sooner. They did that, see this image on Wikipedia (hotlinking the image from Wiki doesn't work). Then, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster, they decided to get rid of them quicker. And coal too, because of the climate. Natural gas consumption on the other hand went up, because of the lower emissions and higher flexibility (needed to deal with the increasing share of wind and solar). And that's in a nutshell how we ended up where we are. But even if they'd do use nuclear power for heating, using electricity for resistor heating is quite wasteful. You'd need a lot more power plants.

As a non-native English speaker, I have to ask: how do you pronounce PNNV?

I think NFTs probably have future utility in terms of proving ownership of physical assets such as property, vehicles, etc., maybe even for trademarks and copyrights As much as I'd love to be able to change ownership of my car without government approval, I don't think this is ever going to happen. What if someone loses their private key? Now they just pay €32,60 and get new papers. If you can replace your "registration token" by a new one, it defeats the purpose of using a token. I can think of more problems: what if someone steals your token?

New boards are created when certain boards have many topics that would better fit the new board. Without that, requests for new boards are mostly ignored.

honestly don't understand why you consider it a good practice to move toxic change to cold storage. If you send 0.005 BTC to miners, it's gone. If you send it to cold storage, you can always use it later when needed. If you don't want to use it, don't use it. But things may change in the future, and as long as it's in cold storage, nobody can know it's yours. Assuming there are many effective ways to get rid of these undesirable inputs, why would you want to keep it at all? I think we have a different approach: I don't believe in "undesirable inputs" because all Bitcoins are equal. toxic change This sounds like the religion of " taint". I simply don't believe it exists ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) spending your criminal outputs in the wrong way. Wait what? The topic was about privacy, not about hiding crimes. If you stole 1.01 BTC, then indeed I can imagine you don't mind sending 1% to miners if you believe that's what keeps you out of jail, but I was assuming we're talking about honest law abiding citizens why just don't want to world to know their private financial details.

This proves once again that all the nonsense the Europeans have been saying about caring about the environment, green shit, global warming, etc. all meant nothing. The moment they felt a little pressure they started cutting down trees and burning coal like 1800s! It's mainly politicians feeling good about themselves when they make unrealistic climate deals. Tax payers already know we'll just be paying for it. The good thing about coal is that you can actually have your own storage. It's not really possible to store gas for the winter at home, but a few tonnes coal fits in any basement. I wouldn't want it though: it's heavy, it's dirty and it creates thick smoke. Car emissions are strictly regulated, but fireplaces are still free for all.

Please ban Jr. Member Jaksjol675 Banned! for plagiarism. I checked 2 of his posts, and both were copied. Here's one: Copy: Replacement of Russian gas by LNG has largely reached its limit. Lower imports from Russia can now only be met by reducing EU gas demand. Immediate deployment of a coordinated EU approach offers the best option to reduce substantially the overall gas demand-reduction cost. For the EU as a whole, a total demand reduction over the next 10 months of about 15% compared to average demand in 2019-2021 would be required to compensate for a complete stopping of Russian pipeline imports. For EU countries (arranged into regional groupings), we calculate the required reduction as ranging from zero to -54%. Original (or at least the first link Google shows, there are several other sites with the same text): https://www.bruegel.org/2022/07/european-union-demand-reduction-needs-to-cope-with-russian-gas-cuts

Addresses with balance=0 AND outputs=0 should not be listed. No balance and no outputs, that means the address is unused. Those aren't in any of the data dumps. Only those matching this condition if balance>0 That list I have ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) OR (balance=0 AND outputs>0) I'm confused: why would the 2 addresses I gave above not qualify for this?

are funded (=positive balance) See List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance. had an output in the past (=sent some coins to someone) Interesting, I don't have such a list, but it should be quite easy to get from outputs. Is it possible somehow to generate such a big file with this data which I could use for a query? Are you sure you're not looking for "and" instead of "or", so all addresses that sent funds before, and still hold a balance? I could run my query agains both of those, that would certainly do the job. Adding them together and removing duplicates is easy. To be clear: outputs: block_id transaction_hash index time value value_usd recipient type script_hex is_from_coinbase is_spendable 152764 498ec7f88857d23bd19370252da439876960dad296a64534987ad54081a9cc39 0 2011-11-11 00:05:55 5001400010 143.5402 17aA19GvhzMHsq8xPwSXAPZutyr6kuzLEB pubkey 4104a8dd3f118a6122c2f8c6be3261670f7af76568cac8ff0ed95e5ef63238018e69b223dbdef9f9d5e94a053ff1afc390e230844c0b71f3648405807cd668979958ac 1 1 152764 5cc203b9389f0f7eb50669eba04ac32d666892fc95f07c25603da8a6ed9316ae 0 2011-11-11 00:05:55 1199480 0.0344 1KPxwAbFVoDimPrVECF2zgiyfX9jGW9TCy pubkeyhash 76a914c9ca1b452087cdc6b89754c1090928d7a67ef23988ac 0 -1 Would 17aA19GvhzMHsq8xPwSXAPZutyr6kuzLEB and 1KPxwAbFVoDimPrVECF2zgiyfX9jGW9TCy be what you're looking for?

Can you (or DeepComplex or anyone else) explain to me please, why the pubkey is such a help and thus interesting for assisting in finding out the private key for this particular address? Where can I find more information about this I don't know the technical details, but knowing the public key makes brute-forcing a partial private key much easier. Wouldn't that be a serious concern when I spend some BTC to someone and my pubkey is revealed within the transaction? No, not without quantum computers.

it have to download like 300gb of library! More like 450 GB by now. Only after that i can have access to the balance? If you load the wallet from the start, it'll show the transactions while it syncs. Assuming the transactions happened many years ago, you'll see them long before it's done. You can lookup the current balance of the addresses in a block explorer if you're in a rush.

If there's a file named wallet.dat, make a backup (on a USB stick). Then, make another backup, just to be sure.
Install the latest version of Bitcoin Core (see News link above this topic), make it read the wallet.dat, and let it sync. It depends on your system how exactly you can do this.

if you are in my shoe what will you do.. I would make sure I don't get involved. Family and money is a bad combination, and nothing good can come from this for you. Or maybe teach them to use Bitcoin instead of centrally controlled Ethereum (which is mostly used to scam people by selling them worthless tokens).

I am not sure if this VPN could bypass the speed limit of my ISP. That's why I mentioned it: you can find out for just a cent ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I just tried and I get 1.2 MB per second which is 2x my usual speed. I could share it from that server, but to do that, I'd have to turn it off until you're done (that's a waste of bandwidth as it currently uploads about 25 GB per day to the network), and I don't have the disk space to clone it. But since you're at 51% already, doubling your download speed isn't going to be faster than just letting it sync on it's own.

I could not find the Computer version of that VPN (Not available for PC). It's working fine on my Android Mobile. Try my favourite: Mullvad.net. You can pay $0.01 (through low-fee altcoin) to get an hour or so access. I can do it for you if you if you want. Do you believe those files can contain ransomware or other viruses? Unlikely, but why risk it? Usually it's the block verification that's the bottleneck, not the internet. I already downloaded 51% of the blocks, but it took me over a month because I cannot download 20 GB daily. Sometimes 2GB, Sometimes 10GB a day. 20 GB is the max. So only a month to go ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) What download speed do you get from my blockdata-server? I do have a full Bitcoin Core installation on that server. data dumps aren't meant to restore Bitcoin Core. Then, What is the purpose of it? Data analysis, such as counting chips.
