6881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Project Anastasia: Bitcoiners Against Identity Theft [re: Craig Wright scam] on: January 15, 2020, 03:33:03 PM
I'm aware of the story and events surrounding Anastasia, and that's some pretty screwed-up history over a name right there. This just proves that identity is so valuable to each and every one of us that it may cost us our lives for the comfort of others'.

Now as for CSW continuously claiming the brains behind bitcoin yet cannot do a simple signing of addresses and/or any other keys the real Satoshi laid out in the open is enough evidence that this man is a nutjob. He's constantly delaying the process of him laying out the necessary evidences that will seal the deal; he's making the entire crypto community dumb as he thinks we are by evading a long withstanding 'request' from his multitude of peers and supporters all over the world. As of this moment, he's so deep into his lies that a single wrong step in the path that he's taking and he's dead. Frankly, we know why he's doing all these things: for monetary gain and evading law enforcement, but it's only a matter of time before the nutjob faces his grim (and well-deserved) fate.

Posessing some keys (of a car, house, email account - bitcoin wallet) ,doesn't prove real ownership - not on showing, using, whatever.

Real 'evidence' needs a lot of more - esp in real world, like receipts of registering all the web sites, ppl who have Counter checked the White Paper,... telling things not known before in a decent way.

All of which CSW failed to acknowledge, prove or comment with veracity and integrity. Some of his statements do not complement one or the other even, so I don't think Mr. CSWrong does provide us any sort of proof to his claims as Satoshi.

If he is, he'd definitely save us the hassle of guessing who he really is and cross-referencing every vague statement he had released over the years.

Evidence is a tricky thing out of the math realm - even for judges  Wink

Partly true, and CSW used that to his (dis)advantage perfectly.
6882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What ever happened to Hal Finney's bitcoin? on: January 13, 2020, 08:27:54 PM
Hal Finney must have accumulated a ton of bitcoin.
What ever happened to them?
After his death, have they been sold?

They sold a lot of it to pay for his medical treatment in the years before his death, plus teh costs of cryonicly freezing him:

Considering that the price range for cryonics range from $28000-$200k depending on whether you only want your brain or whole body to be frozen, it's possible that they really sold those bitcoins when Hal was still alive. ALS is no joke expensive to treat--or lessen the effects and help the affected individual comfortable since there really is no medically-proven method that cures it--and it might be that the Finney estate exhausted their money over time.

He died in 2014, so they sold back then (way before bitcoin started to surge in price). They got about $12,000 for the lot.

If Hal was mining ever since the start of the network, this will put him to the hundred thousands of bitcoin on the safe, if not million/s IMO, so I don't think $12000 is the right valuation for what he has in store for his heir. What the $12000 stands for, perhaps, is the donation they received when Hal was still alive.
6883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's make mining sustainable on: January 13, 2020, 08:10:20 PM
While I agree that everyone should do their part in making all things sustainable and eco-friendly, I think that putting the blame solely on bitcoin mining for what's happening on our climate isn't fair at all. We know that 65% of mining bitcoin comes from China (at least once, though), and the whole of the bitcoin network consumed 30-terawatt hours of power in 2017, but this doesn't mean that all of it came from fossil fuels. Also to put that into perspective, in 2016 alone we managed to consume 21-petawatt hour of electricity, and out of that number, the 30-terawatt hour consumption of bitcoin is a mere 0.14%, and it's utterly ridiculous how much stones are being thrown at bitcoin mining when the banking sector itself uses more power.

As for CO2 emissions, we have been doing horrendous on that area, but certainly not far-off from historical figures even as far back as 800,000 years ago. Interglacial periods sits our asses off at 300 ppm of CO2 in the air at its warmest, causing a 0.5-1.1 degree Celsius increase on global average temperature. Take note, this is way even before humans existed; only volcanoes, oceans and other natural players were the main factors as to why CO2 concentration on the air was rising.

While even up to this point we might be one of the largest artificial contributors of CO2 in the atmosphere, nothing beats land and ocean CO2 reservoirs in contributing to the CO2 in the air--though I'm not saying this as a justification of our improper use of the natural resources around us. I'm just saying that there are other things way beyond human activity that even the best of our technology cannot control. We cannot control earth's axial tilt, precession change and eccentricity, can we? That's one factor missing on global climate reports as of late, which baffles me since it's a scientific fact that the the Milankovitch Cycles is an observed, recognized and a proven cycle due to the abundance of data that we have here on earth.

Just like looking at a trading graph, the cycles match that of what we see on each of its heating and cooling periods (stages of glaciation), hinting towards a possibility that we are actually heading towards our heating phase of the cycle. Why aren't we considering this possibility at all?

Anyhow, we might not have the means to control our own planet's motion which is synced with the sun's, but the least we can do is mitigate the effects of it by reducing our CO2 emissions, and it starts off with using clean energy, if possible, and reducing our own use of excess electricity as well. Recycling also helps, plus planting some trees every now and then which I think should be mandatory per person.

The mining sector of bitcoin has been aging pretty well since people are actually shifting from coal-based energy sources to natural ones, just like what they have in Iceland and some provinces in China. Vilifying other sectors of the economy doesn't help at all if one does not even tend to his/her own garden aptly.

What does it mean "our bidding system"? I have seen the several bots sold on the crypto marketplace and one was designed especially for the crypto-games, AFAIK. The script will be used for roulette game with modified money management. Btw, thanks for answer Smiley

Bidding system is most probably the game session and other technical aspects of the game itself like provably-fair related things, algorithms and stuff that may affect the outcome of the bet. Anyhow as for automated betting scripts, there really isn't a problem on that one. I'm sure the operators understand how hard it is to change/tweak your bets accordingly every time your bet wins/loses.

Is it allowed to use the script or bots in this casino/gambling site? Some gambling sites prohibit this option and ban the punter.

The last time I checked, Crypto-Games does not prohibit anyone from using an automated script/bot in betting. However if it is something that interferes with the actual session of your bets and/or a script that destroys the integrate the integrity of the session then no, that's absolutely not allowed.

See here:

I don't know why Craig Wright kssps on  making all these false claims yet with no proof and anytime he gets the media to get him in the news Huh. Funny enough he wants Bitcoin SV to take over bitcoin, i mean how possible is this going to be lmtao. Don't know about y'all but i guess is best we ignored this dude and all other fake personalties claiming ownership of bitcoin. They are all yawned at!

Stalling the inevitability that he will be put behind bars after his atrocities on the Australian government and some fraud he committed on other countries as well. I applaud his guts for trying out to make a shit show and run his operations while facing multiple cases in and outside of his home country. There is no 1m bitcoins on his arsenal nor Tulip Trust; just a madman with no hope to change for the better. He tried his best running from his lies, starting from being the fake Satoshi up to the Tulip Trust, but his time is up.

Give it a few months and this guy right here with delusional claims on his non-existent wealth, knowledge and title would be in the comfort of his own lovely prison cell. No one is above the law, even if you are "Satoshi" as you endearingly call yourself.

Most of my knowledge in trading, it's either I learned it through executing it on websites with play money or reading it on well-known and best-selling books. Hindi sa pagba-bash sa knowledge na maaaring makuha sa forum na ito regarding trading, pero it just doesn't take the cut kung gusto ng tao maging professional at gawin itong full-time. There are plenty of references out there for starters na alam kong kapupulutan ng aral kung pag-iigihan ang pagre-research.

Mukhang wala talagang nabalita nito bago palang mag alburoto. Desgrasya talaga.

Currently in Pasig. My relatives and friends in Region 3 at sa Ilocos told me na umabot na sa kanila yung ash cloud. May low pressure area pang nabubuo east of Samar/Leyte which might intensify the ash/mud clouds. I'm currently on standby for the next 48 hours as a volunteer should things start to get worse (kaya nakakapag forum post pa rin).

If anything pala guys, if you're within the affected area, please don't hesitate to leave your houses and take into consideration your own precious lives! Isa lang ang meron tayo niyan, at yung health hazards/risks outweighs our earthly possessions. Coordinate with your LGU teams for proper evacuation and know the next best steps para manatiling safe.

Keep this numbers in your speed dial for now just in case:

NDRRMC:

(02) 8911-5061 to 65 local 100
(02) 8911-1406
(02) 8912-2665
(02) 8912-5668
(02) 8911-1873

And of course, 911.

Precipitation also carried these dust/particulates pababa resulting into mud rain. Mga kapatid, mag-iingat palagi.
6889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Uber or Airbnb running on bitcoin on: January 12, 2020, 04:40:27 PM
I remember when both Uber or Airbnb each came out. You could save money using them. Now you can't.

Depends on where you're at. I'm currently in the Philippines and have used ride-hailing services and Airbnb whenever I need to visit a province and stay there for a day or two. Oftentimes, an Airbnb stay is better than staying at a hotel wherein the accommodation is fancy but the room you have is, well, sub-par. Plus the amenities are limited too. Whereas on an Airbnb accommodation, I can do whatever the hell I want and use any amenities I want when I want them exclusively, and oh, at a cheaper rate as well. For ride-hailing services, they have Grab here and have ousted Uber due to non-compliance I believe. It's cheaper on short distances but not really good for long distance travels due to traffic and whatnot.

Isn't there any good Uber or Airbnb type products that run on bitcoin?

I believe you can use an app that helps you pay bitcoin for these type of services, though I don't exactly know what the fate of that app is.

I was thinking about long distance phone calls. A long time ago you had to pay for that. Then it gradually became free.

Nope. You still have to pay for those. Internet connectivity isn't free, and if yours is then perhaps you're the only example for your statement.

I'm surprised that we haven't seen that happen with Ride Sharing or even BnB's. Because think about it, both of those are pretty much commodities in society. By now they should be extremely cheap. They should be just a fraction of what is charged by Uber or Airbnb.

Especially with a ride share product. The driver could just pull over. Pick someone up, and then earn some bitcoin for driving them, to or at least close to their drop off point. But mainly compete heavily on price to disrupt the whole Uber or Airbnb sectors.

The thing is the operators know that people will pick their service over traditional taxi cabs any day due to the comfort and security they offer. They might release discounted rides, a promo or two, or whatever and people will think that's the better deal when public transpo can also take them to where they wanted--on a much cheaper rate, sans the extra comfort, obviously. I'll blame human psychology for this, because the adverts instilled to the minds of the current generation that these services are the way to go and not public transpo, which is why operators like Uber can milk the hype as long as they like.

Like one day in the same way we say "remember when you had to pay for long distance".... instead people will be saying "remember when you had to pay for a Cab, wasn't that crazy?" I want this to happen somehow soon.  Shocked

What do you think?

This will happen if competition becomes tough and I'm sure of it. With or without the involvement/integration of bitcoin to their payment systems, it's bound to happen in our future society.

6891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Creating a Bitcoin Ecosystem - Earn & Spend on: January 11, 2020, 06:46:52 PM
It sounds good, but what about the safety and "survivability" of such ecosystems?

Survivability is not a big problem. An economic setup such as this would thrive, albeit with a few elements of the 'traditional' economic setup and traditional economic tools that we're used too aka fiat. Given that the majority of the world's economy is still dependent on fiat, with only a few percentage of that who are openly accepting crypto, fiat is still a must at some point. Well, we can use our coins on something we 'might' need on our browsing needs, say, a VPN just like what OP stated, or a VPS or whatever. There will always be that merchant who would be ready to accept bitcoin for his/her services and/or goods and if you have the coin, pay for it in crypto, and you are already contributing to the realization of a bitcoin ecosystem no matter how small that payment would be.

We may not see the light of day wherein everything can be bought and sold with bitcoin, but we can always create our tiny little space in the world's economy and create that ecosystem with our own coins, goods and services. Surviving does not necessarily mean outnumbering the throughput and output of the other, we just need to exist and do our own little thing while the rest of the world does theirs.

6894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATMs should target developing and third world countries on: January 11, 2020, 09:47:11 AM
IMO installing a bitcoin ATM on a developing country would do more harm than good considering how huge the fees these machines impose for a single trade/transaction.

Imagine paying for more than 3% per transaction instead of paying a flat fee for a purchase/sell that you have done. People from those regions obviously need any extra dollar/penny that they can get so what good does a bitcoin ATM do? Convenience? That's the last thing people from those region needs.

Also, the concern for these people should be focused on their own economy, shifting all of their attention towards strengthening their GDP and per capita income, above everything else. Bitcoin does not and will not alleviate poverty magically on a developing country. It has to happen among themselves first before they adopt bitcoin to which they can place their own money on if they want to.
6895  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin Fall Because of China Or Actually They Dominates Bitcoin Mining on: January 11, 2020, 08:02:05 AM
Either way, I still don't think someone in their right mind would do such thing. Well you have bitcoin's competitors and other entities wanting to claim the top spot for cryptocurrency and are willing to do damages if the opportunity comes knocking, but the moment people see discrepancy, a fork might be released mitigating the damages done by the attacker.

I have never supported China ever but I'm just glad that they are the ones responsible for the majority of the hashing power. The 65% reported by the OP isn't just single entity, and is mainly comprised by several huge ones which do not meddle with each other's businesses and just want to take profit. Knowing the general mindset of a Chinese when it comes to business, they would look to improve their profit margins rather than derail their own source of income in an attempt to disrupt other's progress.

Leave the mining to the Chinese, and the rest of the adoption to happen on other fronts of the world. That's what's happening and that's the setup that's been working since 2013. Other players outside China have given up on their ventures to mine on an industrial scale. How can you continue operating a farm when all the conditions necessary for operations are just against you? Electricity, climate, cost of labor, miners.. the list goes on.

95% of what you could read online for the past 7 years that had the keyword "China" in it has been either a big lie or a huge exaggeration. it started mainly with FUD that China controls the price since their exchanges were reporting bloated volumes that were partly fake and partly because of 0% fees on their platforms. then it continued by "China banned bitcoin" and went on for a year or two before it got old. now for the past 2 years the same FUDsters are focusing all their nonsense on hashing power and spread a lot of misinformation regarding that only to manipulate the market.
the good news is that FUD like this gets old fast specially since it is repetition of the same nonsense over and over again.

The market and the community have become immune with these kinds of news already and I don't see people getting affected by Chinese news anymore. We know the numbers, we just don't care about what their government is planning to do now or in the near future because they have always remained unsure about their actions anyway.
6896  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Bitcoin Node sa Pilipinas on: January 11, 2020, 07:26:33 AM
I had one in 2015 nung nag-try ako magmine using Gridseed miners out of curiosity and not for profits. Dalawa ang connection ko noon, isang fiber PLDT which, at the time costs Php 2800 a month (ridiculous!) at isang broadband internet connection from Globe. Configured yung machine to use the broadband connection as a fail-safe in the event of internet disruption kay PLDT which, thankfully happened only a few times.

6897  Other / Meta / Re: From reading your old posts how have you changed since arriving here? on: January 11, 2020, 06:45:27 AM
I might have shifted more into the political aspect of bitcoin rather than its technical aspect which I first fell in love with. Since starting this forum journey in 2014, I've always been a sucker to know so much about how bitcoin works, why it works and how long would it work. Nowadays, geopolitical issues concerning bitcoin excites me; or at least captures my attention more than algorithms, possible scenarios of brite-forcing etc etc.

While there's still some trickle of interest dropping down my head on some tech aspects of bitcoin, it's pretty self-evident on my latest posts on what I care about the most now. Oh and of course, gambling with bitcoin which I despised at first but I accepted over the years.

Wait, what? Hopefully Giannis will not leave Milwaukee just to be with Dallas. I love Giannis in the Milwaukee franchise and make his own dynasty with he city. Anyways, it was just what ex-nba players say.

It's inevitable if the offer is good. Though I love Giannis sporting the Milwaukee jersey, I still believe that the dude craves for a ring, and the only thing he can do to achieve it is find a better team which I think he will find with Luka and Porzingis. Kyle Korver ain't performing good all the time, plus the fact that Bucks' inconsistency is waaaay too pronounced at this point that it's hard to bank on them against more consistent teams.
6899  Economy / Economics / Re: Since 2009 There Was A 500% Increase In Internet Traffic. on: January 10, 2020, 11:20:16 PM
Internet is internet, and the mechanism it has is completely different from blockchain, so I don't understand why the latter needs to be integrated within the internet.

We've come a long way from transmitting data from point A to point B using the internet. Starting with the huge undersea cables laid on the ocean floor as a framework on the 1850s to the fiber optic cables we have right now which transmits data faster with little to none of the data lost along the way. Satellites, for one, also helped in accommodating the world's need for internet connectivity. Elon Musk's Starlink project may prove to be one of the world's cheapest and most competitive broadband provider today, so there's that, too. We have crammed every possible data we can to the most efficient way possible to ensure that we are transmitting them almost immediately, and receiving them on the other end with no data lost and also, quickly. I'm pretty sure we're up to par with the world's demand for internet, and it shows.

I still don't think the blockchain has a substantial application when it comes to internet access. You just need to get information from point A to point B when you use internet, and if you want a secured connection, get it encrypted and your problem is solved. For cloud storage? Sure, blockchain can work, but then again you would need a centralized system to handle whose account is which and maintains the cloud, otherwise you're better off sealing those files that you have on the comfort of your own physical storage spaces.
6900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China & The Bitcoin on: January 10, 2020, 10:27:43 PM
There is indeed a strange connection between bitcoin and China that has fascinated me as of late.

I understand that they had been pretty much fickle-minded about bitcoin since 2015 and has remained unsure of what to do with the cryptocurrency. Even though they have made negative remarks about bitcoin over the past few years, we still see the likes of Bitmain and Binance being supported by the Chinese government albeit on a discreet manner. Perhaps it has something to do with those who are in the helm of these companies and their connection to the upper ranks of the government but it's still kinda hazy on what really is the status of bitcoin there.

As a communist country, I understand that the thought and concept of a decentralized currency is far from what they want to achieve nor adopt, but the numbers don't lie. Every year, China is posting a lot of improvements on their hashing power and if this does not tell you about the current state of bitcoin and mining in the region then I don't know what will. It's pretty self-evident that they are letting these things (mining operations) go, but doesn't want to get the cryptocurrency adopted by the citizens knowing that it might affect their money supply, and we do know that the Chinese government had been pretty strict on cash circulation, especially the outflow since they wanted to get the economy tight and snappy for them to claim that number one spot on the global economic scene.

They help mint the coins, trade them, and rake in the money into their country = booming economy. Then again, that might not be the case as some mining firms are choosing to keep the coins as is for speculative purposes and are only cashing out a few to maintain operations.
