6901  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: August 13, 2021, 12:42:56 PM
6902  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [LIST] Open Source Hardware Wallets on: August 13, 2021, 12:13:50 PM
You can also DIY your own Satochip hardware wallet.
We do sell blank javacard that are compatible with our Satochip Applet.
Interesting, I didn't know that and I think that €25 it is a reasonable price, but I think that you would need to buy a card reader if you don't have one already, and that is plus €15.
Is there any page with instructions for dummies for making Satochip DIY wallet and loading code on card?
6903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin are not by nature money, but money consists by its nature of bitcoin? on: August 13, 2021, 10:00:50 AM
Marx mentioned in "A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy"
Karl Marx ruined so many lives with his stupid communist ideology that he should not be referenced by any means with anything related to money or bitcoin.

gold was very valuable in ancient times.
Gold is still valuable, has multiple use cases, and it's value is more or less the same unrelated with fiat currency experiment.
I once read somewhere that you could buy a good suit with same amount of gold now and during history in different periods, so it's less volatile.

The fundamental reason for the establishment of the gold standard is not the rarity of gold, but the skyrocketing production of gold, which happened to be controlled by the world's most powerful Britain at that time;If Spain is the world's largest country, I guess it will implement the silver standard.
I don't believe this to be true because there are a lot more silver on earth than gold, silver is more affordable and you can find it everywhere from kitchen, jewelry, to coins.

No major economy promotes Bitcoin. This economy needs to hold a lot of Bitcoin. And it has a lot of voice in the world. Similar to Britain at that time
Most governments are holding some Bitcoin, and Venezuela even has Bitcoin as legal tender, but it's wrong to say that ''economy'' needs to hold Bitcoin.

To use Bitcoin, you need to learn some knowledge, while gold and silver don’t need to learn complex knowledge.
Is that so? Can you tell me yourself if some shiny yellow metal is original or fake gold without learning some complex knowledge and having some complex instruments?
- No you can't, and anyone can easily sell you some fake gold.
6904  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Error] Invalid Distance Code on: August 13, 2021, 09:33:56 AM
what can I do?, should I copy it to a new pc or download new software from electrum.org?
Data for standalone Electrum wallet is still on your hard drive with your operating system (Windows in your case) in ...AppData\Roaming\Electrum folder, and it is not meant to be portable.
You should copy data inside that folder and if you want to use Electrum with flash drive then use portable version only, but make sure you only download it from official website and verify GPG signatures.
6905  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: making fake HW wallets(will we see this scam next)?? on: August 13, 2021, 09:27:44 AM
lets say you make a fake  HW wallet
I don't understand what do you mean make a fake hardware wallet? You mean ordered or DIY made device? Explain it better.

You can add multiple passphrases to your wallet as extra protection that is working only in combination with your seed words, but keep them in different locations.
For accessing any funds on that wallet, you also need to have pin code, and you need to know correct passphrase.
You can also reset the device, and generate new random decoy wallet.
6906  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 13, 2021, 08:37:55 AM
You have too much time on your hands Cheesy.
This was made two years ago for 10th anniversary art contest, I never posted it in public and I found the picture few days ago when I was cleaning my hard drive (because I though it's going to die).

Here's a challenge: Make theymos without € sign Smiley
Sure I can do that, unfortunately cherry is not making ₿ symbol yet  Undecided

With the amount of reports increasing, it would likely mean the possibility of moderators being added would be higher. I can't speak on the behalf of theymos, and whether or not its in his vision for new moderators, but at least with the data being there i.e number of reports, there's at least a little more to work with when it comes the time he wants to add more.
Is there a way to see some public statistic for total number of reported posts and it's historic values?
6907  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New metal seed backup method on: August 12, 2021, 07:41:27 PM
Where do you find cheap stainless steel plates? I cant find any where I live and online is all ridiculous prices.

I don't know where you live, but few bucks is not ridiculous price, and you can literally find them anywhere in metal shops.

6908  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are there any wallets like the Exodus wallet that allow staking crypto? on: August 12, 2021, 07:35:29 PM
So are there any trustworthy ones that have popular alt coin support and allow staking that use tor to connect?
Trezor Suite is open source wallet that is using Tor and it is supporting Bitcoin and other coins, but you need to have Trezor hardware wallet device, and I am not sure if they have staking feature.

Most multicoin wallets are closed source and I would be very careful using them for anything, but I think that Trust wallet and Exodus wallet are also supporting staking (they don't have Tor support, but you can use vpn to hide your IP).

PS
Don't ask same question multiple times!

6909  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of Ghana to pilot CBDC with German securities printing firm G+D on: August 12, 2021, 05:42:34 PM
Number of countries that are testing or planning to test this centralized digital coins is rising every day, and it all started with China.
People need to realize that all this CBDC digital coins are worse than current monetary system with cash, and everyone will loose all privacy using them.
I would refuse all those trials and instead suggest governments to add Bitcoin, that can't be controlled and no dictator can shut down your Bitcoin ''account'', just follow the example of Venezuela.
6910  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 12, 2021, 12:29:09 PM
I'd love to see that board cleaned up though, and if theymos would give me a Delete button, I'd take on the challenge.
I have few of those cherry Delete keycap buttons, along with bitcointalk, satoshi and theymos, just waiting for a challenge  Grin

I'm not against more mods and certainly think there's a few people who have earned a place on staff with their report counts but I think it's a lack of reports that is the main issue.
There isn't a day when I don't report several posts, but problem is that I ignore more and more users every day, to be able to function as normal as possible in this forum.

Maybe it would be best to add some dedicated sub board mods...
Yes please, and I think that Bitcoin Discussion thread should be priority right now, along with adding Lightning Network thread.
6911  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Offline Transaction vs hardware wallet, which is safest? on: August 12, 2021, 09:49:14 AM
Lets say i want to transact a very important huge amount of btc transation of my life. Which one should i chose between Offline signing transaction via Electrum(gpgverified) or trezor bought from official site.
Using airgapped pc for sending transactions is fine if you are advanced crypto user with lot of coins and if you know what you are doing,
but if you are average crypto user without confirmed clean computer and linux operating system, than it is probably easier to use trezor hardware wallet with passphrase option.
Both devices are not connected to internet and there are pros and cons for both approaches, if you don't already have airgapped computer it would take time installing and setting everything up.
Ordering hardware wallet devices can also be problematic for privacy so I would suggest using PO boxes or alternative address and reading this [GUIDE] How to buy a Hardware Wallet the right way.

6912  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin being decentralised an illusion? on: August 12, 2021, 09:35:16 AM
Despite many supporters claiming that no government has control over the Bitcoin network or price (and that even if they do have control, they wouldn't hurt it due to innnovation), this seems to be proven untrue time and time again.
Braininactive nothing was proven untrue except in your mind, and banning miners from China only proves that their government can't control Bitcoin and miners.
Miners simply moved to other countries and even if hashrate dropped much more it wouldn't really hurt Bitcoin, especially looking at bigger picture of hashrate.
China want's total control of everything including currencies, so they made digital yuan to track people, and they don't want Bitcoin messing up their plans.

Also most recently with the Infrastructure Bill, the broad language used to define a “broker”, is a major blow to decentralization.
It is not affecting decentralization and it would be stupid to say that someone is controlling Bitcoin just because of some bill that is not going to be applied until 2023, and it still needs to be confirmed in House of Representatives.
The very act of making bill like this is proof that Bitcoin is decentralized and controlled by nobody, but big players can manipulate BTC price just like for any other asset, but that does not affect decentralization at all.
6913  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 12, 2021, 06:35:17 AM
All you need is someone to start locking up threads so that you don't get waves of redundancy.
I would agree with you in this case, but moderators are not doing that very often or not at all, even with obvious case of spamming like for Livecoin dead thread that is still active in similar way.
I reported several times and asked for locking of that thread but my reports are still unhandled so I gave up doing that.
Other more thing that should be locked or moved to trash is duplicate topics, so we have multiple topics with exactly the same title and content across the forum.

If I were in charge - that's a scary thought, isn't it - I would probably appoint a couple of moderators to each of those underserved boards. For example nutildah and DireWolfM14 for P&S, LoyceV with o_e_l_e_o for BD/Press, dkbit98 and Lucius for Croatian boards, mainly to punish them all for complaining so much Smiley but also to give a bit of a proactive push to clean those boards instead of waiting for reports, which could be a good deterrent without banning. And I'd hope that having two mods work out some sort of agreement between them could help with the inevitable bias accusations and moderation complaints. If they start slacking a year or two from now, pick someone else from active users.
Being a moderator can really be a punishment and not everybody could do it, but I think that Croatian board is probably the only active local board that don't have local moderator, so Cyrus is doing out work even if he doesn't speak out language.
We are not in emergency state yet, but we could end up like any other board and we need some cleaning up and reorganization.

PS
I don't argue with person L, I just ignore him.
6914  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there an app where I can set an alert for a coin every +/-%#? on: August 12, 2021, 04:55:43 AM
There are a lot of portfolio tracking apps and websites (example cryptocurrencyalerting.com) that can notify users about price change and one of the best known are probably FTX (Ex Blockfolio) or my favorite app Delta, that is free, easy to use and set alerts in settings for Bitcoin or any other coin:
https://delta.app/

Shoot! Don't want to pay for it  Undecided
Gocharting is one alternative for tradingview and it has a free plan option:

6915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware Wallet Backup Key - Does it back up Alts? on: August 11, 2021, 03:59:57 PM
Backing up your 24 seed words should generally work for Bitcoin and all other coins on specific hardware wallet, so if you have backup from Ledger you will be able to recovery everything on any other Ledger device.
Only problem can happen if some hardware wallets are using specific derivation paths that is especially important if you are using bunch of altcoins.
For example, you can try recovering seed words you used for many coins on ledger to hardware wallet from other manufacturer that are popping up like mushrooms, in that case nobody can guarantee that you will be able to recover everything.
Walletsrecovery website is trying to collect all Bitcoin supported paths and BIP standards for wallets including hardware wallets:
https://walletsrecovery.org/

Are there hardware wallets that don't do this?
No wallet or tool can get you keys for all coins because keys are not stored on device, they are generated from seed words.
6916  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Redphone - telephone service for Lightning Node on: August 11, 2021, 02:28:37 PM
This is cool idea, but honestly i don't expect to receive call if i run LN node.
Maybe not now, but it's not hard to imagine LN node operators communicating like this, also we are slowly moving towards dystopian future and censoring stuff will be more and more common,
it is happening even now for some people, just a matter of time when it will affect you or someone you know.
That is why Impervious is working on this cool idea of using Bitcoin network and Lightning Network for building something that is resistant to censorship and surveillance.

EXCEPT, cloudflare? Why?
It is using cloudflare tunnel to expose Redphone app to public internet, but nobody else will know that url you are using.
I am sure this could also work in some alternative way even without cloudflare, with some tweaking and updates.
Looks revolutionary to me and it can have real use case with some easy to use app, having a phone number (Node ID) without an actual phone number, that nobody can shut down.

one can download all kinds of different encrypted comms apps but none of them can cryptographically prove you are talking to a specific public key afaik. this one does.

6917  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [LIST] Open Source Hardware Wallets on: August 11, 2021, 02:08:15 PM
New Hardware Wallet KeyPal added to the list of Open Source wallets according to their statements, but we are still waiting for github code confirmation.
This wallet is one more device coming from China so I would be extra careful trusting them before doing some testing and examination by security experts.
It is made from zinc metal alloy and it has dual chip with secure element and military-level protection, and it is working only in combination TokenPocket wallet by same manufacturers.
They are claiming to have sensory, visual, operational and security features, but nothing can be confirmed because they are still in presale period until September 10.

6918  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum on flathub? on: August 11, 2021, 01:54:34 PM
but flatpak package is not mentioned on electrum official site. Who builds package on flathub?
It could be community made, so it's not official package from Electrum, but you can contact Electrum website support directly for confirmation.
I clicked on See details under Publisher section in Additional information and I got the same github link as posted above.
6919  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: looking for advice/mentoring - wallet focusing on time-lock on: August 11, 2021, 01:45:15 PM
Thanks for the hint with "advanced preview", still, this does not freeze bitcoin, it only post-dates the transaction.
Simple right click on Electrum wallet address can freeze or unfreeze any bitcoin address, that is not exactly the same as in your project but I don't find it very useful.

I am not sure how much this is similar to your project but I also saw a video by Valentino Zertuche who created time locked addresses with coinb.in website, and coins would be unspendable until a set date and time has passed.
He used Electrum wallet public key in combination with coinb.in website:

6920  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Redphone - telephone service for Lightning Node on: August 11, 2021, 11:10:27 AM
If you already running a Lightning Node you may be interesting to follow and try this project called Redphone- phone for your lightning node, that is completely self-hosted and it can use webRTC audio channel for connecting two peers on the internet.
This software was made by pseudozach and it was built for Impervious AI Hackathon that started on August 4th and it's running until August 20th 2021, and it is in competition for $25,000 in BTC prizes!
Impervious is one more interesting project I started following because they are focused on making p2p internet that is secure, censorship resistant and built on Lightning as Bitcoin Layer 3 network.
