6921  Economy / Reputation / Re: Abuse due to revenge? on: March 02, 2019, 02:44:33 AM

it's true, one could argue that many of those "accusations/links" are true, but they are pretty much far from accurate, therefore i think you did well on "revising" your feedback on such cases, specially if there was no harm/scam involved.
6922  Other / Meta / Re: Who exactly told theymos to change the threshold to 250 cycled merits? on: March 02, 2019, 02:32:48 AM

Thanks for the list sm.

was i just called a "Loser"  Roll Eyes  ?

Let's see what cryptohunter thinks about the list and whether he thinks the "suggested" list could end the DT drama or not.
6923  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Do you exchange gift cards to BTC? on: March 02, 2019, 12:37:02 AM

using escrow with gift cards is pretty much useless, you can simply deny that the seller sent a working code after you redeem it, and they can easily accuse you for redeeming a code that did not work in the first place, and then it will be hard for the escrow agent to know who is lying.

someone mentioned about you requesting an image of the card? , is the process of verifying the code done manually? if not then how are you going to automatically extract the code from say a poor quality image?
6924  Other / Meta / Re: Who exactly told theymos to change the threshold to 250 cycled merits? on: March 01, 2019, 11:08:59 PM
Cryptohunter's proposal

~90 users with 100+ earned merits and 1500+ activity.

Current system

Quote
~135 users with 250+ earned merits, any activity.

so your proposal will exclude  45 members ( including me  Grin ) ,  but do you really think that these 45 votes are the issue ?

suchmoon i don't want to be greedy with my "wants" but can you put a list of those who won't be able to "vote" if cryptohunter's proposal is applied ?

i am pretty sure the majority of the remaining members will be those you have an issue with now ( excluding me and a few other new members).

6925  Other / Meta / Re: Who exactly told theymos to change the threshold to 250 cycled merits? on: March 01, 2019, 07:57:17 PM

well these are all just assumptions cryptohunter, but anyhow, if the "gang" controls merit, then they likely do control most accounts with 1500 activities too , don't you think ?
6926  Other / Meta / Re: Who exactly told theymos to change the threshold to 250 cycled merits? on: March 01, 2019, 03:15:22 AM
Not only I suspect are there more with 1500

but isn't this alone a good reason to conclude that 250 merit is worth more than 1500 activities, which goes exactly against this

Let's revise it to 100 earned merits and 1500 activity. That is a much more important account to lose and will become more so over time.

what is harder to get , is certainly more important to keep, you need to also consider that activate's only strength is 'time'  , there are thousands of shitposters, bots and scammers who would very likely have all the activity you want,at any point, its only a matter of time, merit on the other hand is way harder to obtain.

TL;DR adding activity to it is not a bad idea, reducing merit required is a bad idea.

6927  Other / Meta / Re: Who exactly told theymos to change the threshold to 250 cycled merits? on: March 01, 2019, 01:15:54 AM
2. why it would not be better to make it 100 earned merits + 1500 activity or even 2000 activity?

I would like to see a comparison between members with 250 earned merit and members with 1500 activity, as in number based.

6928  Economy / Reputation / Re: Introduction on: February 28, 2019, 02:35:11 AM
I don't think admins would read this topic, so if they have other ways to catch you then you have just wasted your time, and if they don't, then  seems like you just brought attention to yourself and now you have a better chance of being banned "again ?"
6929  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Do you exchange gift cards to BTC? on: February 28, 2019, 02:10:46 AM
How do you exactly expect people to blindly send you their gift cards? how is this different from a newbie asking for a non-collateral loan or a newbie selling some digital goods?

the good looking website does not change that fact that you are a newbie with an anonymous identity , trying to buy gift cards and want everyone else to go first !.

let me re-phrase your post.

Hello , I want to buy amazon gift card for 10% discount, send me a UK gift card , and i will send you 90% bitcoin in 5 minutes, and hey , no escrow.

i am really surprised by most comments above for not worrying about this being another" better looking" scam  Huh

6931  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Bottomed out ? TA analysis. on: February 27, 2019, 10:37:35 PM
You can't possibly discard $3200 that easily.

i think you have missed understood my statement, maybe if you read it in context it will make more sense, that statement was a response to that guy who said selling at 5.7k  and buying at 3.2k is more or like

So you sold at the bottom and bought at the bottom ? Nice !  Wink

he thinks that selling at 5.7k was selling at bottom, but anyway i know he doesn't know shit, so no point re-explaining anything.

i indeed do not discard 3200$ , by the way doesn't this whole topic go against me "discarding" 3200$ anyway  Grin ?

6932  Other / Meta / Re: Candidate for Ban appeal on: February 27, 2019, 09:24:32 PM
I saw what Norm did there, and here is the story from my side ( if it matters)

he out of good intention called out a scam company swiss miner and posted their ads video from youtube in this topic.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093468.0

he then copied one of the comments from the YouTube video and pasted it , see phil's comment

I went to youtube and ask about getting one.

and unless you are changling of youtube you did wrong and could be banned

As you cut and pasted this comment without quotes

that comment from youtube was also deleted about the same time when frodocooper deleted that "Plagiarized content"

what do we know?

1-Norm could have been the same person who posted that comment on youtube ( very likely).
2- He forgot to quote it, but clear as day he wasn't intending to steal some else's words since he posted the source for the comment.

if he didn't post the link to that video  frodocooper would probably never realized that  "Plagiarized content"

i know that rules are rules and frodocooper is doing his job, which honestly he does quite perfectly, but we the miners community know that Norm wasn't a shitposter or someone who would simply copy-paste for the sake of it, he was a very good member, with many constructive posts, i am sure that most if not all members from the mining section would agree to that.

i was waiting for him to appeal for himself, but i do believe that he doesn't know much about the forum's ins and outs and he probably just gave up and left for good, i hope theymos will look into this issue with an open heart and mind.

Thanks Steamtyme for starting this topic.
6933  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, proposals and rules. on: February 27, 2019, 08:57:35 PM

That's a valid point, but if merit matters so much then we should give less weight to activity, a full member with 100 earned merit should have a higher rank than a hero member with 2 earned merit. activity should still be somehow added to the equation, but merit should over-weight it by a good degree.

6935  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how many S11,S15,T15 did bitmain actually manage to sell? on: February 27, 2019, 12:38:52 AM
ok i forgot to mentioned something else, the 40k coupons are from people i personally  know, but there is a market for that , let me put this in a simple form.

i can very easily get 100k s9 coupons in 24-48 hours , but i am sure as hell i won't find 500 of the other coupons.

also by looking at the Chinese market "out side of bitmain" you can easily source 10k,20k S9s from a single reseller but try to order 1000 s15 and am pretty certain that not a single resell has that number , regardless of the privileges they get for being Chinese ( yes they get those privileges , it's a standard in China )

the 40k might be too small , but i am pretty certain these numbers will get worse the larger they grow.
6936  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / how many S11,S15,T15 did bitmain actually manage to sell? on: February 27, 2019, 12:12:28 AM
I guess we all know that bitmain did not sell many of the their new released miners, but i didn't think the sales would be this low.

a while ago bitmain released a dozen of coupons to everyone who bough any SHA256 miner from S9 and above.

but they made a small change this time.

For every S9 bought they gave out 3 x coupons with face value of (160$,250$,340$).

For every S11/T15/S15 they gave out the same as the S9 + another 3 coupons with face value of ( 195,300,395).

as some of you might already know, i have traded thousands of bitmain coupons and i know these coupons inside out, so i am concluding my analysis based on that.

after the release of these coupons i started getting messages from my Chinese suppliers that i used to do business with back in the good days of mining fomo , and those guys are heavy bulk buyers.

i was offered to buy those coupons , what i have seen personally was about 40,000 S9 coupons ( of each value), but only about 200 coupons from the other type of coupons ( 195,300,395).

while my suppliers do not represent the whole percentage of buyers, i think we can still conclude some figures.

this shows that for every  10,000 S9 bitmain sold only 50 of either S15/T15/S11  ( i can't tell where do these coupons come from exactly)

so that's more like  0.5% for all sha miners ( excluding older models)

the current hashrate is 43,162,124 TH,  i will just assume that it's 100% bitmain gears.

this gives the new bitmain miners 215810.62 TH  , assuming they are all S15  this will give us  = 215810.62/28 =  7707 S15

but we all know that the total hashrate is not only made up of S9,S15,T15,S11 . so that 7077 s15 can even be real, which even if was real, it is still very bad ( terrible)  for bitmain to say the least.

those  numbers are far from accurate, but it does give an overall indication that the new miners are not being bought !  that's one of the main reasons they gave out that huge number of coupons to encourage new buyers, and i do not see bitmain doing so well , they probably started to use whatever reserves they have from their major sales of last year, but how long can they survive doing so?

what do you guys think?
6937  Economy / Reputation / Re: Abnormal sending merits for posts in Rus and Chinese from 24 to 30 may 2018 on: February 26, 2019, 11:09:20 PM
Merit or Smerit sent on the basis of posts rated by other bitcointalk members worthy of being given, it's up to someone to give to whom.

this is true, you can merit whenever you want, to whoever you want, you just need to deal with the consequences when you are exposed.  Cheesy
6938  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s9 fan direction is wrong? on: February 26, 2019, 10:55:15 PM
Im wondering if that fan already had bad bearings because I have had probably 25k bitmain devices pass through my hands and never had a fan that hit like that that also didnt have another issue

i don't know what was wrong with the one my client had, i asked him to flip it, he said when i did, the grill was touching the fan and it would break it, i didnt' go into much details with him, just sent him a spare / replacement fan.

if you mean the one i had, yes it probably had bad bearings, i do work a bit with cnc router motor and i know what a bad bearing feels like, it's like you need much less force to spin it with a finger than a fan with a good bearing would. also the center of the rotation was not perfect, aside from the bearing issue it would kinda float up and down when you spin it, you can't see that clear as day but you can feel that it's wiggling while spinning. not sure that makes a lot of sense but i am sure you can get the hang of it.

that fan caused the miner to drift like a fine BMW.
6939  Other / Meta / Re: Feature: Allow for inline response of trust reports on: February 26, 2019, 10:14:17 PM
but isn't this like making everyone a DT member on their own trust page?  if we have an accused scammer , he will be given the same privileges as the member who left him the feedback, this will render many tags useless, a newbie sees user A calling user B a scammer , user B goes no you are the scammer , user A's feedback becomes almost useless.

unless you are going to allow a complete debate on the trust page whereby both users can put forward their proofs , screenshots ,etc ,,,. but then we already have the "reference" for that, which works better since other members also have the ability of adding their own thoughts and facts regarding the feedback.

while  i side the idea that everyone must have the chance to defend themselves , this suggestion is not the best, another approach wouth be hiding the feedback content while still shows as "red/negative" "green/positive" , forcing the user to somehow click the reference to confirm and judge for themselves before jumping to a conclusion as many of those feedback are somehow far from accurate.
6940  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Statement][Warning] Do not send any fund without sign message from btc address. on: February 26, 2019, 09:34:31 PM

ya this make sense now, i thought you mean that you should sign a message for every transaction. but whatever the way you mentioned that darkstar uses is both secured and simple.

thanks for the efforts, and i do hope we don't see any more of these bribe claims anymore.
