What year is this?! I had to go back and check that this thread wasn't from 2014. But then again, this wouldn't have made sense a year ago. Strange!

This is a current year item.   They have it listed on their site now.

Would say it's more in the "lotto" mining area.  So special area of mining.

Lol, I understand that. But can't a person buy a used S3 for about the same price and play the solo mining lotto with 20 times the hashrate? This item makes absolutely zero sense (or cents)! Ah but I guess it is more efficient but that hardly justifies the ridiculous price.

I look at this and S3 as two different types.  S3 was to much for me to run lotto mining.

This is much lower watts.  I am not disagreeing on price.  Just cost of running.  My current "lotto" is running one of sidehacks usb sticks.  I do have it off at the moment though, so that is another project to get back up.

I still wonder if we will get close to 6 by the end of this.  If a few extra gear is made I think it is possible.

With my mining setup I have been able to get rid of my S4's, C1.  Now I just need to sell a Dragon 1.5T and I am pretty much up to current gen and uderclocked which I hope to run through winter and if extremly lucky some of next summer.  Next summer is going to be a stretch on some of them but I can hope.

I completely understand the whole "mining is a fun hobby" concept. I think it is/was great fun even if you're not a tweaker geek. I've been ASIC mining pretty much since the start (although I missed the batch 1 Avalons and bet on BFL and bASIC instead, lol). I've quit mining altogether now since the SP20s aren't profitable to run for me anymore. In my dreams, I'd love to have a SFARDS SF100 and an S7 on order... just for kicks. I love shiny new things!

But the fun has really ended for me. The noise, the heat, the astronomical electricity bills, the tanking BTC price, the "never-ending race to beat the difficulty increases with new hardware" has worn me out completely.

Although I'd be back in the race in a heartbeat if the BTC price was above $500 and on the rise! But then new gear would be much cheaper to buy with my BTC holdings. But this low BTC price just kills any desire I have for shiny new toys.

I guess for now I will have to live vicariously through others.   Undecided

True, the fun of mining has been ruined by the huge noise and heat an ASIC miner generates. My approach now is to downvolt and downclock the miners so that they can run on very quiet fans and function as a small heater at no higher than 400W power consumption

The things is you have to evolve with the miners.  Some will not be able to do this with living situation and understandably why.  But I was lucky for summer mining I made a mining area.

This mining area has paid off in gold really.  I think having a nice area where you can handle heat and noise is no issue is becoming bigger and bigger in this game.

Sold all my S4's.  There was a few post's I mentioned them.  But they are no longer for sell as they sold Smiley

If you have S4's not is not a bad time to sell still have a decent value left in them.    Held value pretty good for miners to.

Sold Sold Sold!  Happy to get a deal done.

I will open a new thread for the c1 parts in a day or so.  Need to go through them after this sell.

Chances of ROI with 6 of these + 25% VAT? (The differences in VAT is kinda depressing) Tongue

I would highly suggest looking for a hosting data center.  I'm all for home mining but at 25 vat that's just to much of a disadvantage unless you have extremely cheap electricity.

What country are you in?

500 to go.  We may have a carry over.

Our max pick ends at 4.50%

That will be first in a long time that no one guessed max.  I cant decide if we were all to hopefull, or if machines are starting to kick on.

I fear that if new machines are kicking on this week will not be alone with a new little higher difficulty change.  We could be looking at 5's instead of 2's which will suck if btc remains same price.
6989  Other / Meta / Re: Ban evasion x2 (Never) , Please Help. on: September 01, 2015, 05:13:50 AM
After 1-2 days both accounts were banned and now on the first account
it says Ban Evasion x2 (Never) . He had no intension to to harm forum members nor trying to evade himself with a new account , even though technically he deserved a ban.
My understanding of ban messages is that the first past of the message is the reason for the ban and the second part of the message (that is in parenthesis) contains the expiration of the ban. In "your friend's" case, "he" was banned for ban evasion and the date it will expire is never.

He had no intension to to harm forum members nor trying to evade himself with a new account , even though technically he deserved a ban.
From the looks of this statement, you are admitting that your friend you were evading your ban.

The "friend" really needs to come here and talk to admin's himself.  But with "technically he deserved a ban." on ban evasion there is not a simple sorry to get unbanned.  When warned about first ban and ignoring it and using second account they take it pretty serious.  And rightfully so.

I suggest your "friend" waits a month or two, not trying to post here or get new account.  After time PM a admin admit to the action and ask for forgiveness... and its up to them if your "friend" gets it.

But trying to hurry a ban evasion back on forums will not help his case.

6991  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: September 01, 2015, 05:01:42 AM
I hope sfards makes some new miners soon before the LTC hashrate goes into the shitter.

I hear that, need something cheaper to keep the hashrate up on these coins.

Hashrate barely dropped 15% post halving, and its already stabilized...I was hoping for at least a 20-30% drop...

Yeah looks like ltc is owned by the Chinese now.

There is a LOT of old gear people still run.  I cannot explain it but the hashra/other same chip ones.   A surprising amount are still being run.    Maybe a few months after having we will see a change on this I'm not sure.

This thread has kinda gone offtopic to much.  Is there any news from SFards on release of "next" batch?   Or price of that batch?

The emailed me back today saying thank you for your interest we will keep you informed for batch 2 that's it

I guess that is good they emailed back today.  I still would like to scrypt mine if price is right.

I really hope it's fair priced and direct from them. I would rather not go through reseller and have an instant jacked up price.
6992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to use Bitcoin on? on: September 01, 2015, 04:09:29 AM
I suggest trying to hold bitcoin if you have the financial means.   You can use it on a surprising amount of things between sites and marketplace.  There is a lot of options.

And if you cannot buy it with BTC there is no doubt a service to buy it and take BTC for buying.   But if you can buy with fiat money and hold BTC, long term this is hopefully best.  As we are all hoping it goes up in price which means later we will be able to buy even more things with it Smiley.
6993  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: September 01, 2015, 03:42:08 AM
https://www.dropbox.com/sc/uox0gov6rw0m3od/AADGHpZEWAZwgkmmLUOk3NkVa

Above are two photos of my Antminer S5 with the plastic taken off.  Now its the only
S5 I have that has this design.  It is almost exactly the same as the S5+ with the chips
having their own individual heatsinks.  I have 3 other AntMiner S5's and they are all the same
like all of the pictures taken of the miners.

Can anyone explain to me why these chips/heatsinks are different?

Did I score the S5+ hashing boards before they were released in a product by mistake Smiley

Any knowledge would be great.

Thanks

PS, couldnt figure out how to post a picture straight in the forum so I uploaded them to dropbox.

Any help would be great.

They actually did some with heatsinks.  I'm not sure what batch but they decided it helped with heat, which it does.

I believe they then stopped using them.  I would guess it was based on cost of heatsinks, or time to put them on from workers.  So you don't have a S5+ design but you do have a nice S5 as most do not have the seat sinks.

Oh by the way. The robot arrived about 6PM. I got it unboxed but am still learning how to use it. My goal is to have a full panel of Compacs populated by day's end tomorrow.
Novak's got some assembly to do, so we'll get to test out the oven for a couple things as well. So that's good news at least.

Take a vid of robot in action, pretty please (with a cherry on top).

Even better then my idea of picture Smiley.  I am very excited to see them get it.

Truly all the work they have put in they deserve a good sucess on this project.  I still stick with my saying he cares for miners, which is nice to see.
6995  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I speculate the hash rate will be affected by another explosion in China on: September 01, 2015, 03:23:47 AM
Another day, another explosion due to btc.  http://www.businessinsider.com/another-explosion-has-reportedly-rocked-a-chemical-plant-in-china-2015-8

This will affect the hashrate.

Maybe
It
Will.

I am checking various pools in China.

Very interesting sad part is all the people hurt in each of these.   I think if we do see a decrease it will be small amount though from overall.  I think the amount of new hash is coming strong.

The weeks ahead will be very interesting I think on hash rate.
6996  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread aug 23rd to sept 5th. Picks are closed. on: September 01, 2015, 03:17:50 AM
Me too, but I think that fall is approaching and miners are coming back online.  And the S7 announcement gets everyone excited.  Time to get as much ROI out of those miners as they can before they get replaced with the next gen stuff.

And it wouldnt be surprised if Bitmain kept a portion of those S7 for their own purpose and is onlining them, replacing older stuff. I just think its a bit early for so many summer miner to be coming back.

Then again there's other private companies who might have finished production of a private batch. Meh.

+6% is pretty nasty.

I am quite confident that Bitmain has already replaced a bunch of S5 hardware with S7 hardware. They sold a bunch on used S5's over the summer, and I'll bet they replaced them with S5+ and S7 hardware. I think the S7 design is well checked out at this time.

The S5+ went to public after we asked for it.  I have no doubt the S5 used batches are (if not already) replaced with S5+ or S7's.   You will see S7 controller looks like it can control 3 modules just like S5+.   So very easy for a data center.

But we knew this it's smart business on their part so can't really fault them for that.  It appears bigger more powerful miners is the new thing.

It is spring here and Australia and the temperature gets over 45c here in summer so I will be looking at adapting my S7's to the Syscooling S5 cooling kit

http://shop.syscooling.com/goods.php?id=51

I would prefer to not get into a debate about the kit itself but would like to see if anyone has any suggestions about making it work. It appears as though the S7 hashing boards don't have screw holes in it so I will likely have to rely on thermal adhesive.

Also does anyone have any experience with the thermal strips supplied with these cooling kits? Is it worth using, is it a thermal adhesive or just a paste?

I understand that Syscooling had some dramas with a water pump they were supplying when they started out. The pumps that came with my radiators are a sc-750

http://shop.syscooling.com/goods.php?id=26

I am a little unsure as to whether I should trust these pumps because there will be about $2500 riding on each one.

I would rather use water cooling then to use A/C because if I go the A/C route I won't be able to run as many miners.

Cheers

I agree with not going into drama on it.  But if you do I suggest an upgrade on pump, don't go with that.

I had 2 C1's I used - http://www.ebay.com/itm/381066536924?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT on and works good.  So if you find a way to watercool by modifying i suggest a pump similar to that work great and lot bigger resivour.
7000  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I can earn from the Signature campaign? on: August 31, 2015, 08:33:54 PM
rank up ur account first then join a signature camp and keep posting to earn, very simple Smiley
it might be much easier if he would decide to buy the accounts instead of leveling up his new one though its my thoughts only

I don't suggest buying accounts.   Raising an account will always be better.   And you gain knowledge from your time on the forums.

If you use a bought account a lot of them are crap farmed posts.  This means not all people will want you if you buy an account and have bad post quality.  Yes some will get away with buying, but it really should not be supported as far as for signature campaigns.
youre definitely correct. from time to time using your own account and you ranked up your account up to sr. or maybe hero member, theres so many things that you may learned and also you will have a friends that may help you in the time when you are down or you can borrow to them in case of need coins urgently.

Human greed as always and we can't stop that. They want to claim more and never get satisfied. Everyone can having more than 1 account but there will be some risk for it so think wisely

We cannot stop greed.  But the funny part is likely some of them will buy accounts full of "one liners" like thanks or my favorite is offtopics like favorite drink.  Gee every day they say what they drink.

These accounts will apply to a "good" sig campaign and be turned down.   Yes a few will make it through but most of the farmed accounts really are quite crappy.  I wish everyone would enjoy the forums and not try to fast track.  But I do see why one would be wanting to fast track, I highly suggest them thinking twice before doing it.
what do you mean fast track? i didn't know what is it? and i didn't heard about what they do or something that you make angry with them.

Fast track as in buying an account.  It fast tracks them to a certain level, but as you can see from my posts I personally am very against this for just getting on a sig campaign.

I think you should get an account and raise it from newbie to whatever.  But I could be old fashioned.
