701  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mac Client not generating on: June 16, 2011, 02:28:54 AM
Anyone else having issues?  I have been generating for over 6 hours and nothing.  What gives?

You won't get anything for years if you use the client, grab a proper GPU miner and then give it a shot.
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dual GPU non Xfire and gui miner question on: June 16, 2011, 02:24:38 AM
So I got dual card setup, have everything configured and ready to start mining.

When selecting devices, I can either select device 0 or device 1, so my question is, if I set up job 1 and select device 0-0 and then set up another job and select device 0-1.  Are the gpus working independently? Or will they be hashing at the same block?

If they are independent, can I combine their processing power on the same block without xfire?

They will be working on creating a block, by processing different shares.

And that is essentially what theyre doing.

i'm not qualified in any way to setup a rig, but i'm giving it a go with a asus supercomputer mobo, and 7 x 5770 single slot cards.. will see how it goes
You do know that there is no motherboard that can fit 7 PCI-E x16 cards, right?
Or that most decent 5770 are double slots?
Or no PSU powerful enough or probably no circuit breaker and outlet in your house powerful enough to feed that monster?

You can put GPU's into x1 slots. and you can use more than 1 PSU per motherboard.

705  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not receiving funds sent to me with Bitcoin (on a Mac) on: June 16, 2011, 02:03:22 AM
I'm new to bitcoin and am certainly doing something wrong.

I have Bitcoin installed on my Mac and someone is sending me funds via a receiving address I generated but nothing comes in (its been several hours now).  Any idea why?  The bitcoin software has been installed (and running) on my computer for a few days.  I quit and restarted it but that made no difference.

Down at the bottom of the screen it says:

0 connections
1000 blocks
0 transactions

I know the sender DID send it - its only .001 BTC for testing.

What might I be doing wrong?

We're currently at block 131163, you need to wait until your client finishes downloading them. Add some fallback nodes or open port 8332 on your router.

yeah it's not easy setting up a mining rig either. I'm an electrical computer engineer and I've spent many days setting my rig up.

7?!
707  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My account Mt Gox got hacked and I lost 177 BTC, I have decided to call the cops on: June 16, 2011, 01:48:14 AM
I donno, there should be a transaction trail. the police might actually be able to track them down.

You do realise how bitcoin works....

Durr... BTC, I read that as dollars for a sec.

?
708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My account Mt Gox got hacked and I lost 177 BTC, I have decided to call the cops on: June 16, 2011, 01:46:58 AM
The cops...  I lost my stash, I think my neighbor snookered me.  "Alright, Sir, what did your stash consist of?" "Non-taxable loot."  "Hmmmm.  Perhaps you should come with me."

hahaha
709  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Very high rejection rate to bitcoins.lc on: June 16, 2011, 01:42:07 AM
Just updated drivers for the 4870, will mine it for a while to see if it helped. Otherwise, I have QOS on my firewall so I'm wondering if disabling that would help.

Any other ideas?

QoS could probably cause it, disable it and see if anything happens.

711  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have 4 PCI E x16 slot but cant fit all 4 GPUs on: June 16, 2011, 01:38:41 AM
Currently i have a motherboard with 4 PCI express x 16 slot.

However i can only put 3 and there isn't enough room for the fourth one as they are all too close to each other.

What should i do. I heard of extenders but i don't know what type i should get and how to use it.

Grab a x16 extender here.

i am treating it as theft and leaving my home now to the local police station. wish me luck.

Sorry, but they can't do shit...

Is there really any point in joinin a "rig" if you ca just buy bitcoins from an exchange anyway?

I am waiting for my account being verified by Bitmarket.eu??...I have put my eBay username as a CV, hopefully that will get me in as I have over 4000 FB.

hm?
714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Got all my mining rig gear, should I use windows or linux? on: June 16, 2011, 01:19:53 AM
Wild piracy would cause a lot of people to lose jobs and their livelihoods, because not everyone is an enterprising entrepreneur.

It's the opposite. Piracy creates jobs.

Oh yeah, that's why all the piracy rampant countries are software power houses? Face it, piracy destroyed the software industry in these countries, their talented programmers are now nothing but out-sourced coding monkeys for the powerful software companies in countries who has strict enforcement copyright laws.

Face it, you've swallowed propaganda.

+1

It was quite frustrating when I wanted to answer a hardware question, but after staring at the screen for five minutes wondering where the reply button went, I quickly gave up.

There are many ways to prevent spam and trolls, and this is an effective way, maybe not the best, but it does make it difficult for newcomers to contribute. All I got to say now is: Na na na, I got out Tongue

P.S.: The 4 hours limit is kinda ridiculous. I'm not sure the policy makers know how long that can take to accumulate.

Just keep a tab signed in for a while, that's what I do, im up to 7 days logged in.
717  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to install AMDOverdriveCtrl on Ubuntu via remote SSH? on: June 16, 2011, 01:11:31 AM
I tried:

wget -O amdoverdrivectrl_1.2.0_amd64.deb "http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/amdovdrvctrl/deb%20binaries/amdoverdrivectrl_1.2.0_amd64.deb?r=http%3A%2F%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Famdovdrvctrl%2F&ts=1307967653&use_mirror=switch"

sudo dpkg -i amdoverdrivectrl_1.2.0_amd64.deb

As suggested here http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7514.msg212294#msg212294

But with the "wget -O...etc." command it contacts sourceforge.net and returns a NOT FOUND message.

Another method I saw in another thread http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=11561.0 seems to install amdoverdrivectrl also, but it includes several other things, so I don't want to mess with the mining rig until someone knowledgeable can confirm it's ok.

And of course, I can't post directly in those threads because I have to fill my Newbie quota, sadly.

The reason I need to do it this way is because my rig is in another country and my buddy helping me with maintenance over there is out of town for a few days.

I need to get the memory speed down and see if that can cool my GPUs down a bit. I've got 3x6990 btw, but can only operate 3 of the 6 miners at the moment, because the temperatures are simply insane otherwise. I've tried flags and stuff, but it will need to be the memory speed tweak I suppose.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Cheers,

Ixfinito

Download it on your pc, scp it over, dpkg it, reboot, should be good to go.
Or find a direct link.

720  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Predictions after tomorrow's difficulty increase? on: June 15, 2011, 02:13:48 PM
So far no change in value, it appears the price was already built in by the market.

Something's wrong. Next difficulty jump should be 2 weeks, it's only 5 days though.
