702  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: July 25, 2014, 05:31:38 AM
And another plane was shot, this time Air Algerie, coincidentally the flight was AH5017. e.g the 17.
703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a bitcoin address be generated by PHP ? on: July 24, 2014, 05:04:40 PM
You can check this: https://github.com/zamgo/PHPCoinAddress

Also this script need to be patched for secure working. Look here for more: https://github.com/zamgo/PHPCoinAddress/pull/1
That pull is correct, non-cryptographically secure functions should never be used to generate pub/priv keypairs.

Also, a Bitcoin address can be generated in pretty much ANY language, not just PHP.
704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Noticing Bitcoin oddities while trading? on: July 24, 2014, 04:01:00 AM
It's pretty quiet, thats why. I have not looked at the charts, but just by looking at the price, I know something is off. Dell started accepting bitcoin, and then the price jumped by about 10 dollars, then it dropped by a few, now it's back to pre-Dell announcement...odd odd and odd.
705  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Just how secure is Armory? on: July 24, 2014, 03:37:03 AM
Thanks for the info everyone.  Time to do some investigative research.
Also, what do you mean by small number of characters in your wallet address? There are nearly 2^256 possible private keys(not exactly full 256 bits but still nearly that much), and even if RIPEMD160 is just 160 bits, thats still a huge number.
706  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Just how secure is Armory? on: July 24, 2014, 02:13:14 AM
I believe some time ago there was this one incident, but I can't honestly remember much. But rather than stolen, I think they were lost due to a bug in the software.

So much fail here  Grin

But what cracked me up

To be honest I figured OP was being sarcastic about opening it.  Please tell
Me you were kidding and the idea of opening it never crossed your mind...in fact anyone here who thought about opening it please do the world a favor and get off your computer!

I get a million spam emails every day and sometimes one slips by my spam filter but I can honestly say I've never been fooled. It's just so obvious, and if you're not sure check with the sender!
Obviously. These days I've become quite paranoid. I mean, it's obvious the email is distributing some malware, from miles away, but I am cautious about everything these days.
710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 23, 2014, 05:45:17 AM
If I understand it correctly it would literally take years to get even one private key. Even so it is wise to move your coins from time to time. A moving target is much harder to hit.
You should add billions, or at least millions of years.

Is this based on current CPU processing limits or taking into account future advancements in technology at a given rate?

Yep and future too. Somebody even said that we are even safe from quantum computers, although I don't remember the reason.

Its somewhat surprising that some of the people here, instead of laughing at this e-mail are warning us that it's fake.

Seriously. "Federal Bureau Investigation"?

Congratulation (just one?).

.cn domain?

Make sure to "kindly" download the attachment.

Definition of kindly: Not on a sandbox or virtual machine, or a machine with an effective active antivirus.
Yeah, I got this off of my spam folder, I was obviously at the very least cautious. And yes, just the one congratulation. Imagine every criminal getting such an email, congratulating them on being arrested Cheesy

I suggest you watch Ashens videos on youtube, he often deals with Chinese toys that have "just the one" sort of words Cheesy
713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More coins seized. Nothing too important. on: July 22, 2014, 02:42:10 AM
thanks the second link works fine. i was interested to read the article.

to the poster above me, do you mean you committed fraud on paypal previously ?
Sounded like that to me. And sounded like is scheming the same with Bitcoin.

I basically stumbled upon this article http://www.eteknix.com/21-year-old-earned-1000-a-day-by-hacking-league-of-legends/ Some guy basically got arrested twice and had $110k worth of Bitcoins seized(read near the end of the article).

And you got it from the misterious "wangtao" - this must be the real deal! Cheesy
That's probably the agent's undercover name Cheesy

What do you think? Should I accept the congratulations?

I keep my coins in my android wallet and back everything up! Wink
Your android phone is much more vulnerable than you think. There are many apps out there that are malicious and can potentially steal your coins.

Understood on that account. I develop for Android. I remove all coding that has to do with location and data storing. I only have a total of 10 apps that I install nothing more. Phone is rooted and running a program called "Logging Remover" made by Trev-E @ xda developers. Linux is much harder to crack than windows Smiley

Here is somebody that had his Android phone compromised https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=704041.msg7960933#msg7960933

Also, Linux is not inherently harder to crack, it's just that hackers have not shifted focus on it.
719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: stolen coins on: July 21, 2014, 11:45:36 PM
I'd start looking at what applications you've installed in the past 2-4 weeks. Especially the most recent ones.
