701  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin mining currently too energy inefficient for the future? on: February 21, 2017, 11:19:14 PM
We would be better off creating better ways to produce power.

We have the means to generate all the power we need.

Hydroelectric and Nuclear Energy for Power companies.

Solar and Wind for individual home/land owners.

i dont even...

/facepalm

What exactly is your issue with what I said?

703  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Can someone recommend a mining pool for me? on: February 21, 2017, 10:22:22 AM
It only includes pools that want to be listed.
704  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin mining currently too energy inefficient for the future? on: February 18, 2017, 04:31:16 PM
the obscene energy usage of Bitcoin miners is a problem.

Which is a fraction of the energy used by the worlds current banking system.

I am struggling to find some information out.  I have been wondering about the asic chips in relation to a mining machine.  Is each chip doing its own thing or do all the chips in a machine work together to collectively create a nonce?

I'm pretty sure each core in each chip is doing it's own thing.  Otherwise you couldn't map out the bad cores and continue mining with it.

You need to post in the Alt-Coin section.

Whatis the key of luck?

Finding a hash that meets or exceeds current difficulty as quickly as possible.

Edit: and this pool does it without creating empty blocks.
710  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: bitcoin bitcoin core wallet guiminer on: January 31, 2017, 10:30:20 AM
I'm new to this Just trying to find out some answers

1. If I shut down GUI Miner do I lose what I have been mining?
2.If I mine multiple pools or cloud mine do I need to have multiple wallet addresses can I use one?
3. Also If I'm not posting in the right place to get the answers that I'm looking for ,  Where Do I go?

No you don't loos what you have been mining.  There is no such thing as progress in mining.  Since it sounds like your solo mining, you either find a block or you don't with each hash.

Also GUI Miner is a VERY OLD GPU mining software.  It is not worth while to mine Bitcoin with GPU's anymore.  Most pools will ban you for mining with a GPU to their pool.

You really need ASIC mining hardware to mine Bitcoin.
711  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Where else can we use ASIC machines? on: January 29, 2017, 02:28:46 PM
Maybe we can modify these devices. I do not know.
I wrote it to be a brain storm. Maybe we can modify the devices and do something different.
ASIC is an acronym for Application Specific Integrated Circuit.  The "Specific Application" these chips were made for is SHA256 hashing required to mine Bitcoin.

This subject has been treated so many times since their inception to Bitcoin that we all, who have been here a while, are quite tired of rehashing the subject.

I can appreciate your desire to brainstorm, but if you would do a search you'll find many of these types of threads, some with very technical explanations.  So if your were to do that research and then come up with a new/novel idea taking into account what has already been discussed you may get a different reception.

Have fun.
712  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Where else can we use ASIC machines? on: January 26, 2017, 10:15:42 AM
There are four other recognised uses for ASICs depending on their physical size: Paperweight, book end, door stop and boat anchor.

Don't forget the Block Erupter Bottle Opener.  Where is that pic?
713  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does running an old miner help support the bitcoin network on: January 26, 2017, 02:02:22 AM
Does running an old miner that can't compete with the big guys at mining coins at least still help decentralize, secure, and support the bitcoin network?

Only if you find Block(s).  If you don't find any blocks then it doesn't do anything for Bitcoin of the network.

Thanks ck. Is there any other trusted miner through which I can mine using intel graphics or even a separate graphics card. I am not looking to mine Bitcoin, but scrypt based altcoins.

Post in the altcoin section, you should get plenty of help there.  This is the Bitcoin section.

Hello, a guy is telling me that kano luck has been bellow average since months, that he recommend slush pool. :S

If you look at the pools stat's, in the past 6 months the only really bad month was December.  The others are in the ballpark.  You can't have good or bad luck indefinitely, here or on slush.

I have one of those, a Radeon, I used to mine with, but can't afford 400W on a video card

The system only consumes 400 Watts when mining.  Just using it as a regular video card the power usage is a fraction of that.  Even when gaming it shouldn't ever hit the 400 Watt mark.

I mined with two GPU's, Radeon 5770 and 5830, and they never went over 385 Watts.
Well...it has to do with the "...infinity and beyond on <30A" thingy...has nothing to do with the computer (1000W PSU, but only a fraction being used). When you say "the system" I assume you mean the computer...and the total amperage is the total amperage. My workstation runs a Phenom 8-core, 32MB of RAM, six HDDs (three of which are legacy), various USB devices, etc. etc. which is why the 1000W PSU. I don't game. I do engage in a lot of forensics, but that's another discussion. Anyway...when the mfr sez 400W, I tend to figure my circuit loads on their specs...not on my "figure it should be." I also trust the Kill-o-Watt meter.  Cool

Well, your system is anything but typical Smiley.  I would trust in the objective truth of the watt meter too.

So you had some difficulty with a GeForce 230?  I just built a test Ubuntu system and had trouble with an integrated nVidia GeForce 6150.  I worked around that by installing a Quadro 620 that I borrowed.  So I need to get a better nVidia card.

Could someone point me to or explain the relationship between highest share found on a miner and the found block?

Current Difficulty is 336,899,932,796.  So when your miner's best share meets or exceeds this number then it will have found a block, provided that the mining software in your miner is calculating it correctly.
719  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: January 09, 2017, 12:36:15 AM
Can anyone explain my why I haven't been rewarded for two days now even my miners are working 24/7.

If by two days you mean the last 36 hours then it's because a block hasn't been found for 36 hours.  The next block found should include the payment transactions for the previous block which was found 36 hours ago.
720  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Where to mine with 36Ths 24/7? on: January 06, 2017, 10:33:27 AM
Do you understand how the PPLNS payout method works?

To be honest not really Sad.

PPLNS is a "Hop Proof" payout method.  Here is a link to a good explanation.

https://kano.is/index.php?k=payout

When you start mining your shares are stored in shifts.  When a block is found the payout is distributed among a certain number of those shifts.  At first you don't have shares in all of the shifts that get paid so you don't get paid for shifts that you didn't contribute shares to.  So over time, 3 to 4 days, you contribute shares to all shifts that are being paid and when a block is found you then get a full payment for all open shifts.  If luck is good then the payment will be better.  When you stop mining the past shifts that you contributed to continue to get paid for 3 or so days.  So the ramp up and ramp down even out.

With PPLNS it is possible to get paid better than 100% if luck is good.  With PPS you get paid a flat rate which is 100% minus a the fee, which will always be less than a 100%.
