701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Judge Orders Man To Stop Smoking In His Own House. Hipster Neighbors' Lawsuit… on: March 11, 2015, 08:58:20 PM
I think the initiative for in-home camera surveillance is really being pushed for monitoring people in situations like this and has little to nothing to do with burglary.
702  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Put CCTV In All Homes, Britain's Top Cop Tells LBC on: March 11, 2015, 08:49:08 PM
We've already got cctv in our homes (assuming most people have camera phones, webcams etc).

Its been proven they don't reduce crime, all the tax payers money wasted on cameras would have been better spent on the actual cause of criminal activity: poverty and the ever increasing rich / poor divide.

I think it's self-evident TPTB have no interest in actually solving problems. Their interests lie in exploiting us for profit and control.

Don't burglars wear masks?
That would make all this talk of facial recognition and eye-level cameras redundant.  Smiley

Indeed. Only an idiot would make no effort to conceal their identity while committing a crime.

I can see this initiative being much more helpful in the prosecution of occupants of the household or their guests, who may be stupid enough to openly engage in criminal activity. (ie. Drug use, child abuse, domestic violence, harboring a fugitive, parole violation, etc.) For anyone with a little more intelligence, it would only make it a little more inconvenient.

All in all, this initiative is really nothing more than an invasion of privacy, but like newflesh already alluded to in the above comment this is an ever increasing trend and those who ascribe to the  "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear" mentality will likely be the first to sign up.

<Edit> Enforcing rulings like this one, is what I think this initiative is really for. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985564.0

If they just recognized people's right to self-defence and to bear arms we wouldn't have to worry putting CCTV cameras in our house to catch burglars. A CCTV system can be quite expensive, however buckshot is around 50 p a round.I know which one I prefer.

But that would put the power and control back into your own hands, something the government and corporations clearly do not want.
706  Other / Politics & Society / Put CCTV In All Homes, Britain's Top Cop Tells LBC on: March 10, 2015, 11:48:41 PM

When I said this will one day become mandatory (for your own protection) the same way smoke detectors are, people thought I was absolutely insane. Here we are, one step closer.

http://www.lbc.co.uk/put-cctv-in-all-homes-uks-top-cop-tells-lbc-106091

Quote
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe told Beverley Turner that eye-level cameras will help catch burglary suspects.

He told LBC: "We’ve got a strategy to encourage people, with their cameras, is to move them down to eye level."

But he warned they needed to be positioned correctly to be useful, adding: "Over the last year as facial recognition software has got better we can apply the software to the images of burglaries or robberies and we can compare those images with the images we take when we arrest people.

"What we need to be able to do is to be able to compare that photograph with the images we have of people committing a crime.

"Taking the tops of their heads is not that helpful for facial recognition which relies on the eyes and the configuration of the area around the nose and the mouth. So we’re trying to get people to, ideally, add another camera at face level."

LBC host Beverley suggested that burglars would just smash an eye-level camera, but Sir Bernard dismissed that notion. He said: "Most criminals are pretty disorganised, they don’t think about it. The reason the cameras are high is two-fold. One is to keep it out of harm’s way.

"As importantly, you get a whole shot of what happened at the event: What did they steal? Did they use a knife? You get all that. But more relevant today is a face. That’s what we need.

"If anyone who is listening has a business, think about installing a new one – they’re cheap, relatively. If you can’t buy one, could you think about moving it?"

Nothing lasts forever. Roll Eyes

Except for capitalism.  Like that other poster said, as longas there are people willing to sell stuff, capitalism will continue to exist
More accurately as long as people are willing to BUY stuff. Forever is a long time though, and already we can imagine that through the popular use of 3d printers (for example) there may come a time where people will no longer need to buy things. Eventually we may even have 'replicators' like in Star Trek.

You will still have to buy some GMO plastic stuff to top up your 3D printer Smiley. You also have to buy the printer unless the state gives that for you but in that case the state have buy it... except if its a full blown communist system where the state owns everything (houses, cars, your computer and food included) and it "leasing" for you in exchange for your hard work Smiley.

Maybe capitalism is crap but who wants to live in a system where the state owns literally everything and rationing those things for you.

Yes indeed, the resources for your 3d printer must be acquired somehow, but the printer itself is essentially self-replicating. Have you seen this video?
Markus Kayser - Solar Sinter Project We have sand and sunlight in abundance.

The problem isn't necessarily in whichever political system you ascribe to, but I believe it lies within human nature itself, in its (luciferian) desires to exploit and dominate.

Scarcity is manufactured. Money is as a way of rationing. Materialism is not satisfying. Corruption is inevitable.

What do you think? Will capitalism last forever?

Capitalism is the natural way. If I'm good in mammoth hunting and you are good in stone axe making then the most sensible way would be exchanging let's say 0.25 mammoth for 1 stone axe and hand over the tusks to the medicine man for 2 enchantments for you missus and 3 magic beans for the kids... and there you go... you are living in an early form of capitalism Smiley.

I believe we would be much better off with a 'gift economy', which seems far more natural. I don't see any other lifeforms on this planet using money, yet they seem to be doing just fine without it.
708  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: March 10, 2015, 09:14:43 PM
There is a short story about something like that.
Eskimo: 'If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?' Priest: 'No, not if you did not know.' Eskimo: 'Then why did you tell me?'

Because the majority of people need something to hope for to survive though the rough times of life, otherwise we would probably have insane suicide rates.
Options that people go for usually: religion, alcohol, drugs, smoking, meditation, etc.
Praying to something that may or may not be, for your whole life, is illogical.
All valid points. As you stated, religion is by far the most effective tool in helping people cope with their struggles (oppression), but perhaps an even more important reason, for which the TPTB love religion, is that it also discourages people from killing their oppressors.

I think the problem is in the way you address women as 'chicks' and 'dimes'. They likely get turned off by such terminology and just stop listening. May I suggest you call women by the preferred term 'bitches', as I'm sure you will see great improvement in their reception. Wink

713  Other / Off-topic / Re: uTorrent EpicScale bitcoin miner on: March 10, 2015, 07:41:38 PM
You don't need to remove uTorrent unless you are trying to make a statement. I wasn't "tricked" into installing EpicScale, and don't feel like that was uTorrent's intention, so I'm still using uTorrent.

Thanks for the answer...
But one more thing I wish to know is, if it ain't the intention of uTorrent itself, why would they allow such a software as an add-on during uTorrent's main software installation???

uTorrent isn't the only one doing this. Nearly every other company out there is trying to sneak a little something extra in their installs. People need to do a little due diligence these days (and not just blindly click the 'next button') to prevent unwanted programs from being installed on their computers. This is unfortunately just the way it is and I can only imagine it's going to get worse, not better.
714  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Garbage Man Gets 30 Days in Prison for Collecting Trash Too Early on: March 10, 2015, 07:32:43 PM
That's seriously ridiculous... I mean, how can one be sentenced to jail for like 30 days even after "cleaning" a place which is a good deed, whether before time, if he would have done it later, it might be considerable...

Although I think the prison sentence is ridiculous, I don't imagine this guy did as much "cleaning" as he usually does when he does his pick-ups on time. Surely he must have just driven by many households that didn't get their garbage to the curb yet.
715  Other / Off-topic / Re: uTorrent EpicScale bitcoin miner on: March 10, 2015, 07:26:19 PM
Thank you OP for sharing such a useful information...
Though I would like to ask you one thing, that is it just EpicScale we should delete, or we need to get rid of uTorrent also?

I personally am a fan of uTorrent and I didn't ever think that why they would do that...

As you said, even due to this, my lappy was always experiencing over-heat problems, and due to it, I ain't even able to do multi-tasking nowadays as I am a crazy movie downloader.

You don't need to remove uTorrent unless you are trying to make a statement. I wasn't "tricked" into installing EpicScale, and don't feel like that was uTorrent's intention, so I'm still using uTorrent.

Jail time for this is just absurd. They should've just made him go door to door apologizing and asking people if they had any trash for him now. Roll Eyes Cheesy

I watched Birdman and while not completely terrible I found it quite unremarkable. Seems like a movie your hip grandma might enjoy.

I watched Spiderman XXX parody the other day.  It's definitely a B movie, but I'd say it was up there with Pirates.  Pretty awesome.
I couldn't find a torrent of Spiderman XXX, but after checking out the link you provided I searched and found a torrent of Star Wars XXX instead.

Recently, Vivid produced Star Wars XXX, the largest budget film they have ever made... too bad they didn’t call it star whores...

I haven't watched 'Episode IV - A New Hole' yet, but I skimmed through it and it looks pretty good. It has sexy stormtroopers and even includes famous scenes and lines like, "These aren't the droids you're looking for."  Cool
