Cash?  LocalBitcoins.  Not anonymous.

Cash equivalents that you can use online?  Bitcoin-OTC.  Anonymous.

Pick one or the other :-)

hmm i had the idea that localbitcoins was anonymous, i mean they only will meet you and take/give cash. if its not anonymous why don't they accept electronic payments?

According to my definition of anonymous, showing your face to another person is the opposite of anonymity.

It's a wiki. Edit it yourself instead of asking.

I can't.  No Edit tab.

Are you logged in?
I see an Edit tab when I'm logged in.

I don't have a username and I don't plan to register there.

Oh, well, I guess there will be people whose wallets get pilfered by used printer buyers.
703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware laser printers for paper wallets on: November 08, 2012, 08:19:22 AM
Yah - that's not a real concern when you're printing on a consumer product (aka end user).

I appreciate your feedback -- I obviously see things otherwise.  In my view, lulling potentially many people -- those printing into office printers, multifunction devices, et cetera -- into a false sense of security, is a valid concern.  A notice stating this fact about certain printers on the page wouldn't harm anyone, so there isn't a good reason not to add it.

705  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Bitinstant OFAC Rule on: November 08, 2012, 07:30:45 AM
This OFAC entity strikes me as malevolent:

Quote
As part of its efforts to support the Iraq sanctions, in 2005 OFAC fined Voices in the Wilderness $20,000 for gifting medicine and other humanitarian supplies to Iraqis.[7] In a similar case, OFAC is still attempting to collect (as of 2011) a $10,000 fine, plus interest, against Bert Sacks for bringing medicine to residents of Basra.

OFAC means "Office of Foreign Assets Control".  They are a group of people exclusively dedicated to ruining the life of anyone who decides to give their property to OFAC's listed "enemies" (that is, total strangers who OFAC would literally prefer to see dead, see above).  Given this level of organizational sociopathy, there is absolutely no guarantee that the information you give OFAC (or good people doing business while threatened by OFAC, like BitInstant and other exchangers) won't be used against you.  In fact, chances are, they will, as they have (which you can see above).  Building a list of which people got how many Bitcoins is merely their first step.  They've punished your fellow men for helping other people, do you think they won't punish you or collaborate with others to punish you?

Whatever the purpose of this name / DOB business is, I would categorically recommend anyone to not cooperate.  Providing OFAC false but credible information is one way to accomplish such a goal.  If you don't have it in you to do this, I suggest you use LocalBitcoins or Bitcoin-OTC instead.

I'm sorry that BitInstant was involuntarily dragged into becoming informants of this criminal organization.

I just posted this note here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/12uiln/paper_wallets_page_in_the_wiki_needs_a_correction/

Can I get anyone to fix the wiki page?

Thanks.
707  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bootable Ubuntu USB drive with OS X on: November 08, 2012, 06:54:00 AM
The Ubuntu bootable USB drive is not to be made by either:

- Formatting your stick with FAT
- Converting it to a DMG

What you have to do is either:

- Create a live USB boot drive using another computer (every time you reboot this Ubuntu, all will be lost)
- Install Ubuntu to the USB stick, with the bootloader saved to the USB stick (changes you make to this Ubuntu will persist)

After having done that, you should be good.

An insult and another out of topic answer. Bitcoin community is kind to me.

If it helps: I don't think it was fair to call you "derp" either.

Thanks for proving my point MysteryMiner... unable to provide a shred of proof for your claims, WTG!

Sorry, but MysteryMiner is right and you are wrong.  He doesn't have to disprove the nonexistence of anything.  You do have to prove the existence of the entity you posit.  Please do not poison the forums with religious logic.

Hi!

I'm a great fan of Bitcoin, System D, counterculture, agorism, and I'm a voluntaryist.  I like gold, silver, Bitcoin, and Trans Ams.

Hope to see many familiar faces here!

You may click the Ignore button to the left of a post to hide all the posts made  by that user. FWIW, I had to Google your request. Were you on Usenet back in the day?

Oh, hi, live627!  Indeed, I used newsgroups back in the day.  Since Eternal September didn't end, I continue to require a killfile feature :-)

Thank you very much for the tip!
714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Colored-bitcoins / Bitcoins 2.X and monetary base resizing. on: November 08, 2012, 05:29:37 AM
From what I know the economy requires resizing (usualy expanding, but sometimes shrinking too) of monetary base according to underlying economy size.

If by "economy" you mean the money available and circulating, then whoever told you that it "requires resizing" lied to you.  In my experience, they lied because they (a) either profit from robbing you through currency inflation, or (b) they support these robbers (whether knowingly, or out of good-natured ignorance).

Accordingly, there is no need for a "Bitcoin 2.X" that will accommodate such perverse theft.  It is not being contemplated by the developers, and I wager it will not be contemplated in the near or far future.  Of course, anyone who wants to develop such a beast is more than welcome to fork Bitcoin and implement it.  Because no one likes to be robbed by currency debasement, most likely no one will shoot themselves in the foot by adopting such a beast, but at least it will be an option.

-----------------------------------------------

In any case, that's not what I understand from the word "economy".  The economy, to me, is the sum total of all voluntary trade interactions.  Money is just a medium to facilitate trade -- so is barter, and so is credit, and so is a promise.

I join this forum, and then on the very first reply in the very first post I visit, I get to be surprised by the slur "libertards", used in a content-free, single-sentence, unfounded defamatory accusation against libertarians, where the poster blames them for a bad forum experience.

I think that's both self-referentially ironic and appalling.

So, honest question: Is this -- y'know, open verbal abuse -- the type of human interaction I ought to expect from people in this community?

Thanks in advance.

--------------------------------------

EDIT: oh, God, several replies below, I have the displeasure of encountering an individual who appears to believe that the fact violent child abuse is no longer permitted is unfortunate.  Jesus, that's disturbing.

Second question: Does this forum have a killfile feature?  How do I enable it?
