701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burstcoin | Efficient HDD Mining | New Version 1.3.6 | Assets | CFs on: February 04, 2018, 01:29:52 AM
Ok, for those thinking about getting into this...don't.

It is HORRIBLY unprofitable.

I have optimized 11TB worth of plots running on a Xeon Processor via internal SATA3.

I have made about ten cents in 24 hours.

Here are the problems as I see it:

  • Low Coin Value
  • Pools are Designed to Heavily Favor those with larger plot farms.  let me explain.  In the GPU farming world, if you supply 1% of the hashes, you get 1% of the returns, minus any fees. In this Proof of Capacity world, typically the person that finds the solution gets half the reward or so.  Fine, whatever, that is proportional to work and fair, but the rest of it is weighted by a formula that depends on your best "deadline" found among your plots.  If your best deadline is below some pool set threshold, you will not get credit for ANY work during that block.   Many if not most pools have this limit set fairly low, say 30 or 90 days.  With my 11 TB, I would be above this threshold MOST of the time.  However, someone with more Terabytes plotted will be much more likely to have something that qualifies.
  • Power Cost - assuming your mining rig uses 150W, it will take your first 8-10TB just to pay power costs for the month unless the PC was already going to be on.

I was smart enough to start on a pool that has a max deadline of a year, but it is still very unprofitable.  I would make considerably more just turning on CPU mining on my pc.

I cannot recommend this unless you can start with a very large number of Terabytes.

If someone has some numbers that prove me wrong, I will gladly listen, but for now, this is a farce.

This is true. Its already becoming another Proof of Capacity mining arms race here in Burst. Dont make the mistake in thinking that you can mine with 1 terabyte these days.

We are at all time highs in network size.

Anyhow, GrassBite. Can you explain what deadlines are and what its function is in Burst mining? Ty.
702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What stage of adoption is Crypto currently at? on: February 03, 2018, 07:06:55 AM
Supermine said it right. We are in the early days of cryptocurrencies as a whole. Try going out of your house and see if you can find a BTC accepting store near you. You found none? Of course you did. Thats because theres less than 5% of the world's population use or own cryptocurrencies.
703  Economy / Economics / Re: Can this explain the current situation with the drop in the price? on: February 03, 2018, 06:56:59 AM
I dont think so. If you're talking about the real BTC whales/Libertarians then they would never give up their coins to give to Wall Street speculators. They are called HODLERS for a reason. Its rule everything or bust for them.

What happened in the market was a natural cycle, the same as any market bubble.
704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burstcoin | Efficient HDD Mining | New Version 1.3.6 | Assets | CFs on: February 03, 2018, 06:49:57 AM
Burst version  2.0.0 will be delayed but the good news is you can see the progress and maybe an estimate of when it is going to be released by looking in this Report and progress bar

According to one PoCC developer, this enables them to add more cool stuff for the new upgrade. Sounds good if you ask me.
705  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018 Cryptocurrency Crash (Elliott Wave) on: February 02, 2018, 03:57:26 AM

Many altcoins without solid fundamentals, above all those I call "hype coins" (most ICOs and a few pumped altcoins, e.g. those "endorsed" by Mr. McAfee), will fall much deeper and steeper.

Not all altcoins endorsed by John McAfee are "hype coins". He endorsed Burst but the development behind it is not a joke, not like the better part of the ICOs.
706  Economy / Speculation / Re: When the USA Stock Market Crashes BTC Will Explode on: February 02, 2018, 03:18:46 AM
The coming usa stock market crash will lead to a huge explosion in Bitcoin prices.

Some of those investments might transfer to BTC but I think they will mainly go to gold. Thats what long, established investors have done for decades now. Its safe, proven and its what they know. Why would it have to change now?

BTC is largely for the new breed of investor.
707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burstcoin | Efficient HDD Mining | New Version 1.3.6 | Assets | CFs on: February 02, 2018, 03:02:09 AM
I found this on /r/burstcoin.

The Dymaxion is not such a great piece of technology

Why is Bran Cohen trying to discredit Burst and what its trying to develop? Is it jealousy? Is Burst really that bad? No, its because hes going to compete against Burst with his own Proof of Capacity coin called Chia lol. What a sly dog he is.

708  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018 Cryptocurrency Crash (Elliott Wave) on: February 02, 2018, 02:46:30 AM
That's exactly what OP wants to instill - fear. This kind of thiing always happens - or have you forgotten so soon?

Massive spike, followed by correction - during the dip, the bears are always saying that it will crash all the way, instead of just right above the previous peak levels (7.7k in this case), and draw made-up charts.

IF you want to sell, sell it. I'll take some cheap coins.

But fear is already instilled with or without this thread. Do you really believe that he has control on the whole market by posting in this thread?

Besides, why are you mad? This is a natural reaction after a massive bull market. But its still scary lol.
709  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018 Cryptocurrency Crash (Elliott Wave) on: February 02, 2018, 02:28:14 AM

     BTC:

Im starting to believe this and its scaring the hell out of me. My only hope is to find a stable altcoin where we could hold all our purses in until the bear market is over. My Burst investment is also not looking good lol.

If you have any STABLE altcoin suggestions please notify us lol.

710  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The Spendacoin Project on: February 02, 2018, 02:21:57 AM
Thank You for the constructive criticism. You are right in that it is going to take some work and time to get this going, we are well aware of that. Rome wasn't built in a day
If you look a bit closer it's not a "cryptocurrency only" site, it says so right on the home page . We did that so in order to participate people don't have to commit to trading only with Cryptocurrencies, they can do it to a level that makes them feel comfortable.

I hope the darknet thing was just a joke!

Thanks again

No Im not joking. The darknet is the most effective place to use cryptocurrencies as money because everything that is bought and sold there are illegal, which makes paypal, credit cards and bank related online payment methods useless.

Having that said, why would BTC users use your site instead of Open Bazaar?
711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RailBlocks XRP similar projects ? Any idea? on: February 01, 2018, 03:59:28 AM
Burst has a similar implementation of using DAGS borrowed from the IOTA project but it will not be on the base chain, but off the chain like Lightning in BTC, leaving the base chain pure and clean.

The Proof of Capacity Consortium has been working hard at it for several months now. You can check their progress on their Github.

Read the whitepaper, The Burst Dymaxion.

712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BURST the next big thing [Tangle technology inside] on: February 01, 2018, 03:30:40 AM
This tweet has flown under the radar, it looks like.

There is experimental support for the NanoLedger S.

Its possible theres development for Burst support for the Ledger Nano S. Hopefully it arrives by the end of the year.
713  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Seeking Devs for a german Company on: February 01, 2018, 03:17:31 AM
Try contacting rico666. Hes a German developer currently working on Burst. He may not end up working for or with you but he might have some referrals on good developers.

Send him a message. Im sure he will be eager to help if hes not busy.
714  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The Spendacoin Project on: February 01, 2018, 03:03:08 AM
Im sorry to be the one to tell you that the success rate of your project will not be high. You are explicitly competing with fiat and credit card accepting markets, which a "cryptocurrency only" site will have a tough time to penetrate in.

Many have already tried and failed. If you have the technical knowledge, then develop a safe and secure darknet market place. Thats more probable to be successful if you ask me.
715  Economy / Economics / Re: Fast Forward Time with Bitcoin thought experiment question on: February 01, 2018, 02:47:54 AM
If you ask me, IF BTC becomes the dominant world currency, fiat would still be around BUT it would slowly base its value on BTC, rather than BTC basing its value on fiat.
That is if btc will be successful in dominating against other world currency but why do you even think of it dominating atm if Bitcoin itself has gone astray? Instead of it being used as a currency, it is seen by most of it's users as an asset. I can say this for certain because most of us here hodling bitcoin just speculates how it's price will be higher tomorrow and how we will get profit from it. That's not the proper use of a currency IMO and for btc to dominate world currency, it needs to be used in transactions more.

Yes thats why I typed it as a BIG IF. Read kesany's post to get the context.

On the topic of BTC not being used as a currency, I have already made that argument a lot of times in the Market subforum. No one is willing to use BTC as a currency because fiat and credit cards are more convenient and more accessible for everyone. BTC is more useful for darknet purchases and maybe other illegal or under the table transactions.

Having that said. Why would I waste BTC on regular items when I can use fiat?
716  Economy / Economics / Re: Fast Forward Time with Bitcoin thought experiment question on: January 31, 2018, 02:38:30 AM
So lets say bitcoin is eventually gonna mean the downfall of the bank
as a wallet is basically a bank. You can store money and make transactions all freely and
autonomously. Theres even coins like populous that aim to make it possible to borrow money from crowd funded pools instead of getting
it from the bank or having to search for an investor who'll definitely take his share.

So when that happens and the banks and the government can't cooperate anymore. And the majority will be payed by bitcoin and wouldn't that
force governments to also start using bitcoin (or any other crypto currency but it wouldn't really matter to much as bitcoin is like the backbone of every coin) which would naturally mean that their own currency will lose its value by the amount that the government choses to use the bitcoins instead. And lets say one day theres not much fiat left ... how would the value of a bitcoin measured? in Eur USD Yen?

Or will it ever even come to such a scenario?

Just really wondering Smiley

You didnt have to make one long and forced post about it. Simply ask, "if there was no fiat money, how would BTC's value be measured and on what will it be based on?"

If you ask me, IF BTC becomes the dominant world currency, fiat would still be around BUT it would slowly base its value on BTC, rather than BTC basing its value on fiat.
717  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges where I can store USD / Euro without being verified? on: January 31, 2018, 02:27:06 AM

Stay out of Bitfinex. That exchange will be collapsing sooner or later. They have been printing USDT without fiat USD backing and they are taking advantage of the fact that the large altcoin exchanges like Poloniex and Bittrex have altcoin/USDT listings.

What they plan to do with all that unbacked USDT, we dont know. But I think the regulators will be giving them a cease and desist order for issuing an unregulated currency.

We don't know for sure that the Tether printing is un-backed, although it's pretty likely. Bitfinex has already lost its Polish bank account, so how exactly is Tether getting $100 million wires on a daily basis? It's obvious what they're doing with the USDT injections. Every Tether grant gets sent directly to Bitfinex and large BTC markets buys usually happen shortly after. I remember 2013, and watching USDT is a bit like watching the Willy bot.

Until theres an audit of the $2.3 billion that Bitfinex claims thats backing the issuance of all those USDT, I wont trust their word for it.

Having that said, I also heard that their auditor left lol. That doesnt look good.
718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pos coins? on: January 30, 2018, 04:14:59 AM
I recently begin researching PoS coins, so far I know about dash, neo, nav, okcash, rdd and stratis.
What are your experiences, is it profitable to stake coins and in what pos coin is smart to invest, if it is smart to invest in pos at all?
Is there any list of all PoS coins?

I suggest you also do your research on Proof of Capacity. Read this article on why PoC is better than PoS.

Going further – a PoC and PoS comparison

There are also other articles in the Hacker Noon website. The site is known to be the home of the smart cryptocurrency investors, unlike the other sites recommended by the newbs here. Try searching for Alex Scott's articles about PoC.
719  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges where I can store USD / Euro without being verified? on: January 30, 2018, 04:03:45 AM
Bitfinex lets you do that, but you have to make a certain minimum deposit to start your account. I think it's about one bitcoin minimum deposit.

You have to verify if you want to withdraw as USD but not if you only withdraw bitcoins. Converting to USD then back to bitcoins is OK without verifying.

720  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Cloud Miner on: January 30, 2018, 03:53:35 AM
I got geneismining a year ago to mine me bitcoin and I don't really like it so far. If this is the best one then I guess I will deal with it but if I am to purchase cloud mining which cloud miner should I get?

I generally advice everyone to stay out from investing in in forms of cloudmining, either in contracts or cloudmining exchanges. But since you are already committed to Genesis mining, stick to it, save what you earn, and do not waste anymore of your money. Cloudmining investments are NOT profitable.
