MacMiner works well on a Mac Smiley
So does GUIminer
702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB (running at a Mac) on: June 02, 2013, 03:52:38 AM
What a waste of time and ressources. I will never understand "the mac way".

macs are for people who like using computers but dislike having to tinker with computer hardware.

similarly, usb erupters are for people who like bitcoin but don't have a spare room in their home for big aluminum frames full of GPUs and huge noisy fans and PSUs.

not surprisingly, some mac owners have ordered usb erupters.  Wink
I'm a Mac boy.  I bought a new/used Asus laptop as a designated miner.  Macs are hard to configure for mining and the major majority of the community uses pc's.  I have my Asus, USB hub, and USB fan ready to go.  Waiting for eruptors.  Also waiting for BFL, but who isn't?
703  Economy / Economics / Peter Schiff on Bitcoin on: June 02, 2013, 12:38:46 AM
From, "The Peter Schiff Show."  He doesn't discuss BTC often but I thought I would start compiling clips from his shows and post them as they appear.  It's been discussed on the show many times in the past but I have no idea when.  I never thought to compile it.  But I will from here on.  Peter does not think bitcoin has any intrinsic value.  He doesn't believe in it because you can't hold it and use it for anything else like gold/silver can.  But he does believe in the principle and idea governing it.

704  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: May 30, 2013, 09:47:33 PM

But if BTC is $1000 and you earn 1/10th of a BTC a day, that doesn't suck.

Yeah, the price of BTC could skyrocket just the same.  The lovely Max Keiser is calling for 200K BTC.  I doubt that but I don't doubt 1000, especially after the USD crashes.
705  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: May 30, 2013, 05:39:49 PM

https://bitspend.net/ makes it largely irrelevant whether a retailer accepts bitcoin or not. Nice little outfit.
So many things can go wrong with that.  There's no point to it.  Nice concept though.
706  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: One hub to rule them all ... on: May 30, 2013, 08:56:22 AM

I got a 6000mah usb battery from "Anker" with a integrated flashlight, which died after 3-4 months of usage. (battery is fine, just the flashlight isn`t working anymore)
On these grounds i wouldn't stick my usb miners into a very cheap usb hub.
You think the bulb just went out?  And these usb's are 2.0 right?  Not 3.0
707  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: May 30, 2013, 08:53:03 AM
Maybe if some of the rumblings regarding legislation to register ownership of precious metals comes to fruition, there will be a larger demand for Bitcoins as a store of wealth. I know I'm seriously thinking about it.
Huh?  Where'd you hear that from, the registration?  I know our pseudo pres is trying to say that the internet fuels extremism and that he's trying to control it.  Heck telegrams fuel extremism, people riding around on horseback fuel extremism, i.e. "The British are coming!"  Bumper stickers fuel it.  There's no end to the governments reach when it comes to security.

I digress.  Point being, the big O is trying to control bitcoins by controlling the internet.  And the public is oblivious.  Actually makes me comfortable knowing what I know and actually doing something about it.

I do like that referred asus though.  Gotta get my boy's thoughts.

You might think about checking your local craigslist. You could get away with a $50 pentium 4. Cheesy
cool, thing is I have an amazon gift card to spend

Florida to be exact  Smiley
I'm in VA, I'd fly to FL for a 60Gb ASIC.  Yeah, BFL is slowly shipping 5Gh machines, but no one has seen anything else to my knowledge.  Lets see you're invoice.
713  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: May 29, 2013, 06:58:14 PM
So if they're sitting on all of these active miners, then once they ship, the difficulty won't change... One can only hope.
714  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Help: Need cheap laptop for external mining on: May 29, 2013, 06:46:13 PM
Thanks guys, I like that Asus.  What's the most processing power a computer really needs to run those external ASICS?  Not much huh?
715  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Help: Need cheap laptop for external mining [CLOSED] on: May 29, 2013, 09:14:02 AM
I've searched this forum, can't find my answer.

I'm acquiring 5 Block Eruptors, and hopefully/eventually some BFL ASICS.  I prefer a cheap laptop pc, preferably windows 7 to run the software.  I will NOT use the laptop's cpu's or gpu's for mining.  I'm not interested in a R.Pi.

Any suggestions on a model for power efficiency and cheap price?  I've considered a Nexus 7 but I've read there's issues with it suddenly stopping with easyminer, requiring a reboot.  And can a Nexus 7 run the icarus protocol with cgminer for the eruptors?

I prefer to buy on Amazon, I have a gift card.  And I'm partial to Asus and Samsung.

Thanks!

716  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSE] Block Erupter USB @ 2.10 BTC + parcel -> Shipping to anywhere! on: May 29, 2013, 08:40:06 AM

The best thing to buy would be a USB 3 hub, but the ones I have seen only have 2 high power ports, and are arranged so the Erupters won't fit next to each other.  There is an industrial StarTech USB 3 with 7 high power ports, but these are over £50. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=startech+industrial+usb#q=startech+industrial+usb&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ei=P6ClUavmGcO-0QXK5oCwCw&ved=0CAwQ_AUoAw&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47008514,d.d2k&fp=76da77ddf20e87cf&biw=1494&bih=724

Not really liking the buyer reviews on this one.  I think I'm going to go with this one.

717  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: is cloudhashing.com a scam?? on: May 29, 2013, 08:35:07 AM
With all due respect, one problem I'm having with cloudhashing is the inability to log into my account properly.  I have to refer to an email they sent me to get the link to my account.  I can't just log in from their home page.  I'm hoping this is fixed soon.  Thank you.
718  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: May 29, 2013, 06:24:39 AM
I think many of us are in the same boat...get a refund or stick it out. Given the lack of ASIC options..I am still holding out.
I'm holding out too.  The way I see it, we're early adopters, taking a huge risk.  The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward.  Also the bigger the loss.  You gotta play to win.  Be a part of history. or sit on your a$$ and watch.  Secure some wealth for your family, tough times ahead.
719  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Bitcoin Casino - Now featuring 3 Card Poker! on: May 29, 2013, 04:53:18 AM
When playing live, they say the dealer wins the first hand 60% of the time.  Just ask any dealer.  That, in itself, is where Bitzino BJ (and all online BJ) is favored more for the house, imho.

Take a second to think about what you're saying.  The deck is shuffled randomly, both at the casino and at bitZino.  So the cards that come out on the first hand at the casino table are random cards.

Suppose you arrive at the table just after the first hand was dealt.  12 cards were used, and hundreds still remain.  The remaining cards are in a random order, just like the first 12 cards were.  Do you have any more or less chance of winning?

If you know that the first 12 cards were mostly high cards then you could say you have a lower chance of winning the 2nd hand, but that's just like saying if you knew the bottom 12 cards on the deck were mostly high then you'd have a lower chance of winning the first hand.

As you see more and more cards from the deck, you gain more and more information about the composition of the remaining cards.  But there's nothing about the top few cards of a freshly shuffled deck that make them 'unluckier' than the rest of the cards.  The dealer lets you cut the deck anywhere you like before he starts dealing anyway, so maybe it's your fault for cutting in the wrong place?

I don't know if you're going to buy that explanation.  I've been having a hard time recently trying to understand what other people are thinking.

The bottom line has it about right though: "don't gamble" (although I'd add "unless you see it as buying entertainingment, can afford it, or know how to win!")
Just ask a dealer next time you're at the casino.  Ask them if the dealer wins the majority of the first hand dealt from a new shoe.  I don't know why this is, it's just the way it is.  I always bet the minimum on the first hand when playing live.
720  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: One hub to rule them all ... on: May 29, 2013, 04:04:20 AM
Anyone find a suitable USB hub that is powered and has enough spacing to allow for adequate cooling?

I found this one but the power supply only provides 2A @ 5V, meaning if each port pulls 500mA you'd only have enough power to run 4 USB Block Eruptors:
http://www.satechi.net/index.php/satechi-12-port-usb-hub-with-power-adapter-2-control-switches

Also saw this one, but could find no details as to its power supply specs:
http://www.rosewill.com/products/1604/ProductDetail_Overview.htm#/Mgnt/Uploads/ImagesForProduct/ImgPrd-1604-Cm[7d4d1f39bfc64a01b8705e5227fc75cf].jpg

Last this one, but the side ports don't seem useable. Also, no power supply specs either:
http://www.digitalinnovations.com/connect-charge-7-port-hub.html

I'm going to use an Anker 10 port hub.  4A @ 12V.  They make good quality stuff.
So, I'd be safe to run 5 on this hub right?  You guys think we need to blow a fan on 'em?
