7001  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Hodl Hodl p2p exchange public BETA launch on: August 03, 2021, 11:43:19 AM
Warning to everyone with account at HodlHodl p2p exchange, according to reports from users and from their own medium post, payment passwords for some users have been compromised!
This affected some contracts and they had to liquidate them to avoid loss of funds, and they are starting to migrate funds from old escrow they used.
It is interesting that one of the investors to HodlHodl is Bitfinex exchange, and this issue was first reported by @6102bitcoin on twitter.
They even posted a PGP signed message and signature to confirm ownership:

Dear all,

We wanted to make this blog post about recent events that happened at Hodl Hodl.

First of all, let us apologize for not setting up our communication in the proper way. To ensure that our communication channels are not compromised, we have published a PGP key on our website (see ToS section at lend.hodlhodl.com). Again, we could have handled the communication better, but we didn’t manage to ensure it with all the rush and actions we should be taking to protect our users.

Secondly, we have started migration/liquidation of user contracts to prevent the potential loss of funds. Unfortunately, our recent internal and external audit identified that some user payment passwords might have been compromised. This affected a limited number of contracts, but we are taking proactive measures to ensure that everyone is safe. We are still investigating these issues and building tools to easily migrate funds from old escrow to the new ones. We are going to publish a transparency report on the investigation of these issues and fixing them.

We have contacted external auditors and are doing external and internal audits on a daily basis.

If you have any questions — feel free to contact us through all our communication channels listed in our contacts section.

We continue working and doing our best to avoid any further issues. In the upcoming days, we will post several posts, including our security and transparency road map.

7002  Other / Archival / Re: Bybit and FTX are clones of BitMEX and Binance? on: August 03, 2021, 11:22:28 AM
Did I claim that FTX is owned by CZ?
No, but you said even worse thing that all those exchanges are clones, and I hope you understand the meaning of that word,  CLONE = IDENTICAL, look up in dictionary.
I am not going to reply here anymore. Cheers.
7003  Other / Archival / Re: Bybit and FTX are clones of BitMEX and Binance? on: August 03, 2021, 09:21:27 AM
Clones mean that something is identical to original, and those exchanges you mentioned are not at all identical clones to Bitmex and Binance.
I never used Bybit exchange so I can't speak much about it, but FTX is not owned by CZ even if he did invested a lot in FTX, but owner is Sam Bankman-Fried.
You can also notice important differences in fees and interface, and you can even withdraw Bitcoin from FTX without paying any fee and that is something Binance never had.
7004  Local / Altcoins (Hrvatski) / Re: Altcoin novosti on: August 03, 2021, 09:07:24 AM
https://www.fanmarketcap.com/

Možete probati osvojiti i novi dres Dinama na Socios twitteru sa follow, $DZG i Retweet:

Sretno!

7006  Economy / Marketplace / Re: new idea for family mining: Home solar power+ mining+EV charging! on: August 03, 2021, 08:10:40 AM
Is Lightningasic based in China, because I noticed that website default language is Chinese?
Government obviously don't want any alternative currency like Bitcoin and they are pushing for their own centralized digital yuan,
and they can still confiscate asic miners even if they are not using electricity coming from main power plants.
I even heard example of people selling their independent mini hydro plants because of government banned mining, so buying solar panels won't help much.
7007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have Bitcoin mining and market prices been de-Chinese and more decentralized? on: August 02, 2021, 07:30:04 PM
Getting out of China was not such a bad thing, and at least we don't have to listen anymore nonsense that China controls Bitcoin, but I don't think BTC is more decentralized than it was few months ago just because Chinese banned mining.
People who owned those miners didn't sell them all but just allocated them to different locations outside China and surrounding countries.
Dangerous thing would be if other countries continue to follow this Chinese dictatorial ban because of some global warming co2 propaganda coming from globalist centers of power.

Seastead is an interesting idea and even theymos showed some interest few years ago, but what I noticed is that you have Mt.Gox dead exchange listed as one of your customers.
List of partners on your website include Satoshi Nakamoto, Vitalik Buterin, Elon Musk, Craig Faketoshi Wright, so I don't know if this is a joke or what...
Interesting that your domain is registered recently in 2021 so I don't know how it's possible you work with them.

7010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you protect your Bitcoin from market volatility? on: August 02, 2021, 06:00:20 PM
Why would we need to protect from volatility if volatility is working in out favor long term?
Sure, if you are a regular everyday crypto trader you need to follow all the news, charts and be constantly under pressure for making some profit, and it is almosut guaranteed that you will lose money at some point.
What we need protection from is governments, broken monetary system and fiat currencies that are gradually losing value every day.
Bitcoin is best protection we have for that.
7011  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New metal seed backup method on: August 02, 2021, 05:50:11 PM
I will try and film a guide at the weekend and add it to the github repo. Most of the time involved is converting the seed to binary which probably takes about 10-20 minutes for a 24 word seed. Marking the guide then stamping the metal then takes under 10 minutes to do so that gives you a good idea of how long it would take if your wallet had the option to show you the binary and save you converting it.
Maybe someone can also create open source offline tool that can quickly so offline ''translate'' and convert seed words into binary codes, and maybe something like this exists even today.
Electrum wallet is not using BIP39 by default, but there could still be extension created for converting words to binary, and hardware wallets could implement something similar, but it needs to be more popular for someone to invest time making this.
7012  Economy / Services / Re: 5000$ REWARD FOR FINDING OWNER OF BTC ADRESS on: August 02, 2021, 05:34:25 PM
@Oskarb123 Can you tell us how did you pay this guy for Bitcoins you purchased before? Maybe that is the key for finding him and his real identity.
Connecting that with his phone number used for telegram can help catching him, but you can also hire some blockchain analytics firms (CipherTrace, Elliptic, etc) to do some deep research and pay them percentage of Bitcoin they manage to recover.

When doing trading with someone using Bitcoin you should always double check and wait for at least one confirmation before sealing the deal.
7013  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New metal seed backup method on: August 02, 2021, 03:12:16 PM
I believe this could be a good way to make metal backups simple and accessible to a wider audience as it only costs a couple of dollars to make each one and with the support of wallet software can be made very quick and simple to do.
This is really interesting idea to make durable and very cheap metallic backup for your seed words, that most people wouldn't even know to read and crack, so it is another layer of protection.
It would be nice if you could record a video explaining the procedure and tools you used to punch holes in stainless steel plates.
I would solve the ''issue'' of family members not understanding this code with a special letter (or video) with instructions for decoding, but this should be separated from plate itself.

How much time you needed for creating and completing one metal backup seed plate like this?

7014  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: OneCoin Relaunch - Ruja Ignatova DeepFake! on: August 01, 2021, 05:57:35 PM
I do find the way she blinks quite peculiar, and it looks like the lips just freeze occasionally. What particular segments look fake to you dkbit98?
Notice how he (she) has all black clothes and only face is all white, eyes are not moving and if you zoom in you can see that something is wrong with upper part of the forehead.
Speech patterns are weird, it looks like that actor has probably Russian or ex Soviet Union origin (Ruja was Bulgarian) and it's obvious that actor is reading some written script
Hand are more masculine and they don't exactly match old videos of Ruja with painted fingernails, but to really understand you need to compare it with some of the older videos of Ruja.

Why on Earth would someone who stole 230,000 BTC and went into hiding come back to scam more using the theme "to change the world?"
Simple scam, rinse and repeat.
7015  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Check Integrity of Hardware Wallets on: August 01, 2021, 05:50:02 PM
ColdCard does a good job IMO of making sure that the unit you get has not been tampered with.
From their site https://coldcardwallet.com/ about 3/4 of the way down the page.
Thanks, I updated the first post and added information about ColdCard, and I asked you because I know you said that you own this hardware wallet, so you can confirm if those things about number on bags and epoxy are true or not.

If you watch enough TV or read enough news it's fairly evident that at times even people you trust a lot can steal from you. Friends / family / whatever.
There are multiple point of attacks when you own crypto and hardware wallets, and those attacks can come from places you least expect them, like your friends and family.
That is why we have a saying in crypto Don't trust, verify and we can use multisig and passphrases as additional level of protection.

7016  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The EU are not going to ban "Anonymous" wallets on: August 01, 2021, 03:17:56 PM
Her statement is not a fud but she clearly doesn't know what the heck she is talking about and she only reads the script that someone else wrote for here.
There are clear proposals that will try to do the same thing like they tried in Netherland and forcing all services and exchanges to ask customers to kyc their own personal wallets.

I need to repeat her own words from the tweet, and fact is that there are NO anonymous custodial crypto wallets or anonymous crypto equivalent of Swiss bank accounts, so that Yahoo article is also bs:
Quote
Our rules will now apply to the whole of the crypto sector. We will ban anonymous crypto wallets and make sure that crypto-asset transfers are traceable.

7017  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 01, 2021, 02:53:12 PM
One suggestion is that youtube video should be made with instruction what to do when you try to register in forum and you receive Evil Fee proxy ban warning,
and that short (one or two minutes long) explanatory video link should be in the message that new proxy banned users receive.
If possible, video should also include some of the members profiles that have the power to remove this ban.
7018  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can one store/swap Bitcoin? on: August 01, 2021, 02:34:32 PM
It is not wise to hold any of your coins on exchange as we saw many times that exchanges can be hacked, leak data and regulators can quickly shut the down.
Best way is to avoid any stable coins like USDT; that are not stable in reality, and Tether is under heavy investigation by several regulators and it's right name should be Titanic not Tether.
Best option you have is to keep Bitcoin on open source wallets like Electrum or hardware wallet like ColdCard or Trezor, and when you need fiat currency use ATM machines, P2P trading or Bisq exchange to directly exchange Bitcoin for USD or other fiat option.
7019  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Verifiable builds need attention. Only 3 of 68 Android wallets are verifiable on: August 01, 2021, 01:30:43 PM
WalletScrutiny website added many hardware wallets on their website and only four of them had reproducible codes, Trezor model One, Trezor model T, BitBox02 and KeepKey.
I was a bit surprised to see that ColdCard wallet is still under development, but maybe @giszmo and his team didn't have enough time to finish testing for ColdCard and other wallets that known to be Open Source.
They made several categories like Defunct (feature many dead wallets), No Source (Ledger), Bad Interface (Coldlar, Secalot, Bepal), Leaks Keys (Opendime), Development (ColdCard and many other wallets), and No BTC category.
I noticed some hardware wallets are missing from the list, like Keystone that should be open source, and it is now replacing defunct Cobo hardware wallet.
Clicking on each wallet is showing small window with basic information, price, size, review date, links and detailed full analysis report.

https://walletscrutiny.com/?verdict=all&platform=hardware

I have the give props to giszmo and his team for keeping their promise and doing this huge work of adding hardware wallets like they promised.
7020  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Square is considering making a hardware wallet for Bitcoin on: August 01, 2021, 10:39:22 AM
Square recently posted new job applications for Senior Engineering Manager who can make their upcoming Square Hardware Wallet, and for Hardware Wallet Business Lead to operate their business model.
They have very optimistic goal of creating hardware wallet device for 100 million people, and they are hiring experienced people who can even work remotely.
Compared that with Ledger that sold around 3 million devices so far, and Trezor who sold over 1 million devices (I can't find exact numbers) you see how high goal is set for Square with 100 million devices.
