7021  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: August 23, 2014, 09:38:31 PM
Until a few months ago the forum was filled with charts predicting incredible values for the bitcoin 2014 year,
where are them now?

They are around somewhere you would need to look up the threads using in the search function
But ha-ha i guess those charts are hidden for now but the adoption curve is not changing ^^.
7022  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-23] Bitcoin May Get a Whole Lot More Useful Soon on: August 23, 2014, 09:36:44 PM
Just the fact that these guys discussed btc would have blown the lid off things only a year ago. That they consider btc at all should say something to all the doubters, but we won't see any effect unless they actually start accepting it.

I do welcome this type of news though. It shows that professionals, and not just enthusiasts, are taking btc seriously.

Yep these type of things are great news, it means that the cog is slowly moving towards something, already we have a few companies well actually more than a few a diverse handful of ones that accept it and this will only grow larger from here.

That said it won't have any effect until they start accepting it but it is great news.
7023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin fading away? on: August 23, 2014, 09:25:19 PM
Gaining significant traction and adoption for large box merchants
They may be a tad nerdish in nature now and technologically proficient but technology tends to dumb down or level down from the top
Example the distribution of the internet, to the distribution of social media services like facebook, the adoption of cellphones and other recent technological improvements.

Following that bell curve Bitcoin is starting to enter that term where mainstream is aware but not yet using it, that birthing will occur over the next few years in increasingly significant amounts and will be something to look forward to.
The next rally will be huge.

That's neat think there are a few more BTM's out there
Curious where it updates the list from though but this is a neat site to keep track of where BTM's can be found.
7025  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: August 23, 2014, 09:16:18 PM
Well it looks like the Ebola virus is still in its spreading stage
Impacting different countries around the world.

'Underestimated' Ebola outbreak spreads

Ebola continues to spread in West Africa as Sierra Leone voted to pass a new amendment imposing jail time for anyone caught hiding an Ebola patient.

With 142 new cases recorded, the total number is now 2,615 with 1,427 deaths, the World Health Organization said Friday. The group added that the magnitude of the Ebola outbreak has been "underestimated."

Many families hide infected loved ones in their homes," the organization wrote in an assessment. "Others deny that a patient has Ebola and believe that care in an isolation ward — viewed as an incubator of the disease — will lead to infection and certain death. Most fear the stigma and social rejection that come to patients and families when a diagnosis of Ebola is confirmed."

7026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM Fees on: August 23, 2014, 09:14:29 PM

Agree with this about it not being an ATM, I hate that these types of things are called ATMs but you can't SELL your Bitcoin to get fiat.

I think it's odd to get so hung up on this, but it's certainly a common point of contention.

If it is a two way ATM, you are a money service business. If it is one way, you are more like a precious metal dealer (still subject to regulation, but it may be less stringent).

I could not use my local robocoin ATM because they require me to have a cell-phone. They also require a government ID scan and handprint.

Traditional banks issue you their own identifying card after doing identification in an office setting. This means you don't have to submit documents every time you make a transaction.

I don't think the fact that an ATM only sells BTC would make them not be a MSB. The fact that the ATM is exchanging cash for a cash like product is generally what would make them subject to MSB regulations. I may be incorrect on this but this is my understanding.

Well in my opinion Canada's ATM's one way or two way have to comply with MSB requirements
http://www.mnp.ca/en/media-centre/news/2014/6/24/canada-implements-first-bitcoin-legislation

On June 19, Canada gave Royal Assent to Bill C-31, An Act to Implement Certain Provisions of the Budget Tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and Other Measures. The bill includes provisions on virtual currencies like Bitcoin, requiring similar reporting and regulatory standards applied by traditional financial markets. The new law regulates Bitcoin as a “money service business” and specifically addresses dealers in virtual currencies. It is expected to cover Bitcoin exchanges and ATMs.

The amendments make Bitcoin and all digital currencies subject to the requirements currently applicable to money services businesses. Bitcoin exchanges will now be required to register with FINTRAC, report suspicious and other transactions, keep certain records, implement compliance plans, and determine if any of their customers are “politically exposed persons.” Bill C-31 applies to Bitcoin companies that have a place of business in Canada and outside Canada, who direct services at persons or entities in Canada.

“This is intended for external Bitcoin companies doing business in Canada who will have to comply with Canada’s anti-money laundering legislation,” said Christine Duhaime, a senior financial crime advisor with MNP LLP. “Part of the concern with such laws is whether they strike a balance between combating financial crime and supporting innovative technology development. The concern is that venture capital for Bitcoin start-ups may dry up if legislative obligations prove to be too onerous or expensive. But this legislation is an important step forward.”

Since they mentioned ATM's should impact it as well.

And it looks at present that the difficulty increase will be roughly another 21%

Yep either join the bank stocks and get a sizable dividend from the insiders.
Until your account gets flagged and locked lol.
Or move over to Bitcoin those seem like the most logical choices.
7029  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any signature campaign for newbie rank? on: August 22, 2014, 02:33:53 AM

7030  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Mission to Rescue Hostages in Syria Failed on: August 22, 2014, 12:16:44 AM
Why didn't Obama negotiate for the release of the journalists when he released FIVE terrorists in exchange for ONE deserter?  Five for five would have been a better deal.

I think he still has damage control over the last time he did that
Although if I recall correctly it was so they could leave no soldier behind but can't remember the exact details back then.
Pretty much no solider but reporters are fine lol.
7031  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 22, 2014, 12:00:10 AM

I don't think killing the interest of people only interested in profit through altcoins would be bad for Bitcoin...

I'm with you on that I was talking about nuking the whole section and then banning all altcoin related discussion
It still's needs a place for people to talk about it but with more effective cleaning and moderation from users who want to touch that board.
7032  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 21, 2014, 11:55:34 PM

Nuking the whole altcoin section will lower than number of posts and number of active members here, but why will the bitcoin price drop by 20%?  Huh

It might kill a few interested users in Bitcoin who also have an interest in altcoins
Also some in the community could read it as a form of censorship that was similar to when Bitcoin was new and was being ignored by other boards, and the topic couldn't even be discussed in hacker/overclocking forums.

That said the section does need more moderators and cleanups.

7036  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-21] Amagi Metals to Ditch USD for Bitcoin by 2017 on: August 21, 2014, 11:33:54 PM
http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/amagi-metals-ditch-usd-bitcoin-2017/2014/08/21

In a surprise announcement made earlier today, Amagi Metals has revealed their plans to trade “exclusively in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.” Amagi Metals is an American based precious metal dealer that specializes in providing precious metals, which they view as superior money, to an international market through the technological advancement now known as eCommerce.

Nice we are winning the minds and hearts of people
Especially in terms of adoption and acquiring interested users and parties in Bitcoin.
Amagi Metals has promised to stop accepting US dollars or other fiat currencies and to only accept cryptocurrencies. The never-before-seen business plan will be implemented by the end of 2016, over two years away.

This will be interesting and great stuff ^^.

On the bright side of the Ebola Front
Atlanta Georgia

The ebola patients have been released and pose no further risk to the public
Releasing American Ebola patients poses no risk to public: hospital

ATLANTA -- Calling it a "miraculous day," an American doctor infected with Ebola left his isolation unit and warmly hugged his doctors and nurses on Thursday, showing the world that he poses no public health threat one month after getting sick with the virus.

Dr. Kent Brantly and his fellow medical missionary, Nancy Writebol, who was quietly discharged two days earlier, are still weak but should recover completely, and no one need fear being in contact with them, said Dr. Bruce Ribner, who runs the infectious disease unit at Emory University Hospital.

Brantly's reappearance was festive and celebratory, a stark contrast to his arrival in an ambulance under police escort three weeks earlier, when he shuffled into the hospital wearing a bulky white hazardous materials suit.

"I am thrilled to be alive, to be well, and to be reunited with my family," Brantly said, choking up as he read a written statement. Then he and his wife turned and hugged a parade of doctors and nurses, hugging or shaking hands with each one. For some, it was their first direct contact without protective gear.

More ebola news for today

It looks like they are locking down a slum which has many cases of ebola so no one can get in or out

Barbed wire used to trap 50,000 people in Ebola-stricken slum

Riot police and soldiers acting on their president's orders used scrap wood and barbed wire to seal off 50,000 people inside their Liberian slum Wednesday, trying to contain the Ebola outbreak that has killed 1,350 people and counting across West Africa.

Hundreds of slum residents clashed with the gunmen, furious at being blamed and isolated by a government that has failed to quickly collect dead bodies from the streets. One 15-year-old boy was injured trying to cross the barbed wire as security forces fired into the air to disperse the crowd.

The World Health Organization said the death toll is rising most quickly in Liberia, which now accounts for at least 576 of the fatalities. At least 2,473 people have been sickened across West Africa, which is now more than the caseloads of all the previous two-dozen Ebola outbreaks combined.

7040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Attempt To Spend My Bitcoins Failed on: August 20, 2014, 11:38:36 PM
I wonder what "machine" he was talking about? All he needs is a QR-code duct taped to the counter. He could check the balance online to see that you paid. There is no equipment needed to accept bitcoin.

P.S. Nice job walking out. Nothing says more than voting with your money.

That made me wonder as well, unless he was using square or something then all he needed was the phone app extendible to connect to his phone.
It does make me wonder why he sounded so nervous about it.

But indeed good job walking out, as rodeo said voting with your money is important.
