7021  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the best Cryptocurrency to Invest? on: May 19, 2019, 12:33:34 PM
At this level, I would invest more than 50% of the amount in Bitcoin, with ETH and BCH being the next preference. That said, the following coins can be considered, if you want to invest in small quantities:

1. Stellar Lumens
2. Monero
3. Bitcoin Gold
4. NEO
5. Cardano
6. Zcash
7. NEM
8. 0x
9. Verge
10. Gulden (outside the top-100, but it is a very interesting coin)

Now, let me give you the list of coins, that I consider not suitable for investment:

1. Ripple
2. Bitcoin SV
3. Tron
4. Tether (USDT)
5. Binance Coin (BNB)
7022  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are Africans being "helped" to much? on: May 19, 2019, 12:25:02 PM
The root cause of 99% of the issues that the Africans face today is the uncontrolled population explosion. People are afraid to say this truth, because they will be branded as racists. The Africans need more IUDs and condoms. Sending food aid is not a permanent solution. Are we going to send the food aid (in increasing amounts every year) for the next 1,000 years?
7023  Other / Politics & Society / 2019 Indian general election on: May 19, 2019, 12:15:23 PM
The voting for 2019 Indian general election ends today, and I though that it will be better to create a thread here. Unlike yesterday's Australian elections, this one hasn't got much media attention from outside India.

Still, we need to remember that this election is the biggest democratic exercise in the recorded history, with a total of 900 million people eligible to vote. The system used here is first-past-the-post voting, and there are a total of 543 constituencies.

The elections were being held in 7 different phases, starting from 11th April. The turnout varied from 10.32% (for Jammu and Kashmir during Phase 4) to 85.11% (for Assam, phase 3).

The ideological position of the various alliances are as follows:

NDA: headed by BJP, a center-right party. The core support base comes from upper-caste Hindus (~15% of the population) and urban voters. Foreign policy is pro-Israel and pro-Trump, while maintaining historical friendships with Russia. Hawkish on defense policy and hostile towards China / Pakistan. Stands against affirmative action. Against illegal immigration by Bangladeshi Muslims.

UPA: Headed by INC, a center-left party. Core support base comes from Muslims (~15% of the population) and Christians (~6% of the population). Mostly depends on rural votes. Foreign policy is pro-Palestine and pro-Democrat with preference for Russia over USA. Pacifist defense policy. Strongly in favor of affirmative action and tolerant of illegal immigration by Bangladeshi Muslims.

Others: A bunch of regional parties with different ideologies. Don't have any foreign policy. Most of them derives support from rural and minority voters. Have more ideological similarity with UPA.

These were the seat positions during the last election:

NDA - 336 (ruling alliance)
UPA - 60 (main opposition alliance)
Others - 147 (most of them allied with UPA informally)

As per the last opinion polls (published in April), this is the prediction (exit polls will be available in another 45 minutes from now):

NDA: 275 to 310
UPA: 122 to 149
Others: 111 to 142
7024  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptopia exchange hacked on: May 18, 2019, 07:03:07 PM
So it looks like the CLM tokens are useless and will never have any value,
hopefully not and when we supposedly come to getting refunded we get something out for our losses,
that were made at less than 1/2 the value today or close.

Its all abit sketchy

They were actually planning to buy back these CLM tokens using the fee from trading. Now that the exchange has closed down, we can't expect them to go ahead with this plan. Those users who had BTC, ETH and other altcoins in Cryptolia wallets can expect a full or partial refund. But the problem is that it can take at least a few years.

Meanwhile I heard some rumors regarding why they closed down. This is just an unconfirmed rumor. From what I heard, some of the users had deposited ETH and altcoins to the old wallets (even after Cryptopia warned them not to do so). By the second week of May, the exchange staff noticed that the hackers had once again stolen the ETH from the old wallets. This proved to be the last nail in the coffin and the promoters gave up and closed down the exchange.
7025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you protect your digital coins? on: May 18, 2019, 06:54:18 PM
I leave all on desktop wallets, but I'm thinking to buy a hardware wallet or try to make a safer way to protect my coins
I don't like paper wallets, but I have to admit that is a very good way to protect yourself against hackers

The problem with hardware wallets is that you need to be extremely careful about the pin code and the recovery seed. In case you forget the PIN, then there is no way to recover your coins. Also, with the limited options and customizations they offer, I think that the hardware wallets (Trezor, Ledger, BitLox, KeepKey.etc) are over-priced.
7026  Economy / Speculation / Re: what will happen if BTC hit 1.000.000$ on: May 18, 2019, 06:49:51 PM
I think it's difficult if the price of bitcoin reaches 1 million because it's an unreasonable price and will never happen.

I agree. In case such a situation arises in real life, then Bitcoin will be having more market capitalization than gold, and close to 6% of the global wealth will be in the form of Bitcoin. People like the Winklewii will become multi-billionaires and Saotoshi's stash will be worth close to a trillion dollars. And the Mt Gox robbery will be worth $650 billion.  Grin
7027  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: May 18, 2019, 06:45:27 PM
The Sri Lanka vs Scotland match got washed out at Edinburgh. It is getting really ridiculous. 90% of the cricket matches scheduled for Scotland and Ireland gets washed away due to non-stop rain. Why can't these two sides move their home matches to the UAE or Australia? What's the point in scheduling the matches, when you know that there is hardly any chance of rain allowing the play.
7028  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 18, 2019, 06:41:58 PM
Anyone following the score of Pakistan Women vs South Africa Women T20 match. I think the favorite is Pakistan here although they scored only 128 runs after losing 5 wickets.

In response South Africa Women managed to score 70 runs for one wicket after 13 over so far. I have seen other day a women t20 and I can tell you these 128 runs to chase a lot for them LOL.

Yeah... I checked the scores at espncricinfo.com. Not a big fan of women's cricket and I was more concerned about the Sri Lanka vs Scotland match (which got washed out). My limited understanding is that Pakistan is not one of the stronger teams in women's cricket. Apart from Sana Mir, I don't know the names of any of their players.
7029  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will the price of ETH be if the limit of supply is 200 million ? on: May 17, 2019, 06:24:45 PM
What will the price of ETH be if the limit of supply is 200 million ?

There has been a proposal to limit the amount of ETH supply but that is not really clear. So what do you think if it is limited to only provide 200 millions ?

This is never going to happen, because the maximum circulation for ETH is fixed at around 100 million coins. In case this limit is increased, then the reputation of the currency will take a hit and no one will be ready to trust ETH. The reason is that, if the supply is increased once, what prevents the promoters from repeating this process again and again? In the end, the coins will become worthless.
7030  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't bite more than you can chew on: May 17, 2019, 06:21:33 PM
No one is going to listen to your advice. Greed is something, that is deeply embedded in the human psyche. So people would continue to take huge risks, dreaming that they'll become millionaires someday. And we can't blame them. Money matters a lot in today's world. If you don't have the money, then you are a nobody. Very few people in the world are actually satisfied with their lives... the rest of them... in your language will continue to bite more than they could chew....
7031  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency companies still can’t open bank accounts on: May 17, 2019, 03:38:42 PM
Rather than the fear of getting involved in money laundering activities, it is the lack of clear regulations regarding crypto-currency which is limiting the role played by the banks. So in most cases, the cryptocurrency companies have to depend on third parties for the fiat cash transfer, which is a very risky move (as seen from the latest Bitfinex scandal).
7032  Economy / Economics / Re: What can be done to make bitcoin stable? on: May 17, 2019, 03:33:23 PM
There are a few issues with making Bitcoin "stable". By stable, most probably you mean having a fixed exchange rate versus the United States Dollar. That is not something that we should be looking for. For starters, the USD is a currency that is not protected against inflation, and BTC is a currency which is protected. Both are different, and they can't have a stable exchange rate between each other.
7033  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is heading back to $6k on: May 17, 2019, 03:29:24 PM
Bitcoin has indeed surpassed the anticipated mark price predicted by OP and now at $8.3K. This has thrilled many investors and the progressive movement is more likely to trigger the bull run. From the pace with which Bitcoin is moving, it is more likely to hit $15K by the end of the Q3 of this year.

Don't get too excited about the prices. The correction has started and BTC has lost almost 15% of its value. It's trading in the $7,000 - 7,300 range now. And we still need to deal with a lot of negative news, such as the closing down of Cryptopia and the issues with Tether / Bitfinex. If either one of them blows out of proportion, then we are done.  Angry
7034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: May 17, 2019, 10:55:31 AM
~snip~

If the Windies side is in full strength, then they can easily beat Bangladesh. Despite being a test nation for almost two decades, BAN is just not up there. Their domestic structure is not very organized and even now they depend too much on the Dhaka club sides, rather than diversifying out of the capital city.
~snip~
Can you give me the line up of the full strength WI team?

Team like Bangladesh are not the little one anymore. If you are talking about domestic structure then I see West Indies is the team who is behind. You will find some good T20 players in them. Other than that they do not have ODI and test players at the moment.

Full strength WI means a side that has Gayle, Pollard, Bravo, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Evin Lewis and Carlos Brathwaite. These guys are some of the top cricket players in the world right now. Today they are playing against Bangladesh without half of their best players, and otherwise BAN would be having zero chances.

Have you checked the domestic cricket structure in Bangladesh? They have regional tournaments, but they are not very popular. The most popular domestic tournament remains the Dhaka premier league (apart from the BPL).
7035  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: May 17, 2019, 10:49:17 AM
There's so much money on boxing so he will not retire easily, well he already have a good life now and even he lose the fight for sure he can live for good as a senator. This fight should be a good fight so if ever he will retire, at least he won on his last fight. Let's not wish for him to retire right now, he will be missed for sure.

If he continues to fight weak opponents such as Thurman, then he may not be able to get significant revenue. Perhaps that was why he was so desperate to have another go at Floyd Mayweather in Vegas. But unfortunately for him, Floyd was not interested and had other plans (can't blame Floyd, he had better options to choose from). This fight may bring him a fraction of the revenue that he received from his fight against Floyd. If that is the case, then he may have another two or three fights at the most, before he concentrates on politics full-time.
7036  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Hits $270: $300 Next? on: May 17, 2019, 10:44:40 AM
I am waiting for bitcoin's block halving. I really think ETH will go to a much higher price a couple months prior to block halving.

There is still more than one year to go for the next block reward halving. The effects will not be visible until the first quarter of 2020 (and more probably not until the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2020, when the shortage in supply of fresh coins will be noticed). And I am not sure about the impact it can have on the Ethereum prices. The Bitcoin prices may go up as a result of the reduced supply. But that may or may not have an impact on the ETH exchange rates. That said, it can't be denied that the crypto market may get a boost.
7037  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Long-term plan for investment. on: May 17, 2019, 10:38:45 AM
I always believe that bitcoin is good for long term investment especially if you were able to acquire bitcoin in a lower price just like sometime last quarter of 2018. But, long term investment would make your investment stagnant for longer time. So, I suggest to divide your capital, part of it for long term and the rest for short term or day trading.

I don't think that it is advisable to combine both long term investment and day trading. You need to concentrate on any one of them. The strategy to be adopted is entirely different with these types of trading, and if you concentrate on one of them, your profit may get affected in the other. Also, not all the coins are suitable for day trading. Similarly not all the coins are suitable for long-term holding. You will end up spending a lot of resources and time, if you want to combine these.
7038  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Video call for KYC verification on: May 17, 2019, 10:34:15 AM
Video call for KYC verification looks too much, but i can understand why exchanges and projects want it sometimes. We all know there are a lot of people create a lot of multi accounts to increase their profits. There is not enough to download your id any more. Because you can download someone else id, and exchanges want be sure you is really your and have only one account.

Even if the video call is used, how can the exchange staff be sure that the user is not doing the KYC more than once? If you get a good makeup artist, it is possible to change your appearance and the staff would not be able to detect the fraud. I would still stick to the old method for KYC, that is uploading the identity documents and verifying them. But in this case, the risk is for the customers and not for the exchange staff. There is always a risk that the documents can be stolen from the exchange.
7039  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will mining be profitable again? on: May 16, 2019, 04:38:19 PM
Now it has become even more difficult, as the major mining pools are all increasing their hash power, expecting the bull rally to continue for the remainder of the year. Even if you purchase a few mining rigs now, it may take more than an year to cover the capital costs from the mining revenue. And for that to happen, the prices should stay high.
7040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Hits $270: $300 Next? on: May 16, 2019, 04:32:23 PM
In 2018, Ether went down by a lot. There were two reasons mainly. The first one was the ongoing downturn in the crypto-market. And the second one was the failure of so many ICOs. But now people are no longer interested in the ICOs, and the number of active projects have gone down drastically. ETH has become independent of the ICO influence.
