7041  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China is a declining Power on: May 25, 2022, 03:19:22 PM
Going to have to disagree with this one. To address your main part of China coming to end of their economic growth, sure they might level of in comparison to the last 20 years. But to say this is the end is a joke. The world still heavily relies of China for lots of things, they have pushed a billion people above the poverty line and no with their money and infrastructure across the globe, especially in Africa and other developing nations. Money will continue to pour in. Where you may of had a point would be education, in contrast to western education, Chinese education has been less about creativity, creating less creative minds. This is no longer the case. There has been an influx of Chinese students in every university in the world. Not to mention as people move away from US ideologies, it's not that they are going to turn to Chinese socialism. But more of their own socialism with "insert nation" characteristics. As much of the western propaganda you read, china won't have trouble in the south chine sea, Australia needs them, the US still needs them, EU and of with no backlash from muslim countries of the treatment in xianjiang. China will continue to develop, as someone who currently lives in London and has spent time in china, it's a ridiculous take to say china is coming to end of their growth.

he did not say an end to economic growth.

he say an end to stunning economic growth.

which basically mean they are declining some what. He is perfectly correct. The economic growth rate china 🇨🇳 has enjoy will not go on it will level off.

Does it mean china will fall apart I doubt that.
Does it mean it will grow at the same rate it has done the last 30 years or so no.
It means the rate will decline.

Ie maybe 5% not 10%.

I agree with the op . I think you simply over read the op’s point.

an end to stunning economic growth is a decline in growth.
7042  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 25, 2022, 03:09:11 PM
WoW! Your voice is still heard so young (Judging from your YouTube video). I already guessed your age from your username after someone said you have already said it before. I thought only teenagers became Bitcoiners and most of the Bitcoiners were under 45y. I am glad to know that our community have a strong pillar like you. Long live Phillip M.A

thanks yeah i think young for a 65 year old.

lived a interesting life so far.

hoping to break the record in my family for men which would be 93.
7043  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 not hashing after changing control board on: May 25, 2022, 03:04:32 PM
I recently changed my control board as the older one smoked, however, no matter what I try (Flashing & upgrading) I am unable to see any hashing from my S9.

Yeah I lived here 30 years 1 earthquake.
I lived in New York City 30 years 1 earthquake
I lived in California 3 years 3 earthquake.

WoW!

30+30+3= 63 Years.

My mind poking me: Ask him how old is he. (LOL)

2022- 1957= 65

I spent 2 years of my Navy time on Westpac /Indian Ocean/Australia/Hawaii/Phillipines/Mauritius/Diego Garcia

However, if you tell me that it was all a conspiracy, then this is a road that you have to travel by yourself.
My rule is to not expect a conspiracy when it could be explained by rushing 'something' and/or incompetency.

Some of us have lived long enough lives to know that the world going from one crisis (Covid, world shutdown, mass layoffs), to another crisis (Money printer go brrr, massive inflation), to another crisis (Ukraine War), to another crisis (supply chain constraints, oil shortage, food shortage, etc.) to another crisis (Monkeypox, or whatthefuckeverisnext), in just a span of a few years is NOT normal. Like at all. The odds of such a pattern happening organically in such a short span of time are ridiculously low, low enough to know that they would have to be completely manufactured, planned events.

That is the conspiracy part. Rolling from one catastrophe to another and then another is not normal.

Those that believe otherwise just haven't lived long enough to know better.

Welp, let's just throw another crisis onto the pile (Texas school shooting). During an election year no less.

Gee, what are the odds.  Roll Eyes

Funny, had a friend tell me the same thing in 2011. We had fires in California, then that quake, which caused a tsunami, which caused a nuclear disaster. Think there was a plane crash and something else happening, friend was arguing how there was no way it could all be a coincidence

The gulf of Mexico oil spill was a big thing also, at that time.

In reference to Philip's point:  Large earthquakes are pretty uncommon in New Jersey too..

Yeah I lived here 30 years 1 earthquake.
I lived in New York City 30 years 1 earthquake
I lived in California 3 years 3 earthquake.

All were not really bad but you knew what they were.

The tornado in 2011 was 4 miles from my house. We had 1 this year 20 miles away. They are more common then they were years ago.

I think 4 hurricanes 2 in NYC
and 2 in NJ

Also a really strong typhoon/cyclone in the Indian Ocean when I was in the Navy.  This was the only thing in this post that got me nervous edgy scared.

My ship was 750 feet long and about 60 feet wide. I work on a deck that was 35 feet above the sea on a flat sea. I went to look at the waves from this storm they were not breakers they were rollers. So tall that when the shine settled in a low spot if I look to port(left) we were 20 foot Lower than the roller. do an about face and look right (starboard) and 20 feet lower then that roller so the rolling waves were about 55-60 feet tall.

I think this was a record breaker in the Indian Ocean. I will look for it (google). BTW Mother Nature showed me how small I really am that day.

Very Intense Tropical Cyclone Florine[edit]
Very intense tropical cyclone (MFR)
Category 3 tropical cyclone (SSHWS)
Florine Jan 7 1981 0409Z.png Florine 1981 track.png
Duration   January 3 – January 11
Peak intensity   220 km/h (140 mph) (10-min)  935 hPa (mbar)
Toward the beginning of January, the ITCZ was active to the northeast of Madagascar, spawning a circulation east of Agalega that became a depression on January 3. On the next day, the system was named Florine. Steered between a ridge to its northwest and northeast, the system moved erratically until January 5, when Florine began a steady movement to the south and later southwest. The change in trajectory was because the ridge to Florine's northeast had weakened. On January 6, the intensifying storm passed just west of St. Brandon, where a station recorded sustained winds of 115 km/h (71 mph) and gusts of 148 km/h (92 mph). A day later, the outer eyewall of Florine moved across Réunion island, while the center of the eye passed 25 km east of Sainte-Rose. Roland Garros Airport recorded a minimum pressure of 935 mbar (27.6 inHg), the lowest on the island. A landfall was spared due to a shift in trajectory to the south-southeast caused by a passing cold front.[6] Also around this time, the cyclone reached its peak intensity according to the JTWC; the agency estimated peak winds of 195 km/h (120 mph), based on a Dvorak rating of 5.5.[7][8] The MFR estimated peak 10 minute winds of 220 km/h (140 mph).[6] Florine weakened as it accelerated ahead of a polar trough, and was no classifiable as a tropical cyclone on January 10. The remnants passed west of Île Amsterdam on the next day and continued southeastward.[6][7]

Florine's close passage to Réunion caused injuries to two people. The high winds, peaking at 234 km/h (145 mph) at Plaine des Cafres, affected the island alongside heavy rainfall. Precipitation totals ranged from 100 mm (4 in) near the coast to 1,161 mm (45.7 in) at Foc-Foc. High tides reached 5.2 m (17 ft) at the coast in La Possession. Cyclone Florine destroyed crops and 95 houses. It caused injuries to two people and left around 500 people homeless. The storm knocked down 2000 phone lines and caused disruptions to the power network. Cilaos and Salazie became isolated during the storm, requiring assistance by helicopter. In nearby Mauritius, winds peaked at 137 km/h (85 mph).[6]

I think this was the one and we were sailing 400 miles south of the center to avoid it which is why we just got huge rollers.

Funny, had a friend tell me the same thing in 2011. We had fires in California, then that quake, which caused a tsunami, which caused a nuclear disaster. Think there was a plane crash and something else happening, friend was arguing how there was no way it could all be a coincidence

my wife retired in summer of 2011.

First month of retirement Earthquake,Tornado,Hurricane.

I will check on it as it was 11 years ago but New Jersey had the three things happen in August 2011 IIRC.

Google :

"New Jersey earthquake 2011
Featured snippet from the web
The last significant earthquake felt in New Jersey was on Aug. 23, 2011. That quake originated in central Virginia and had a magnitude of 5.8. Read this:Google Android phones to assist with earthquake alerts and searches. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 to 5.9 is considered moderately strong on the Richter scale."

"Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene moved up the eastern seaboard making landfall for a second time at Little Egg Inlet New Jersey early Sunday morning August 28, 2011. This is the first time a Hurricane made landfall in New Jersey since 1903."

So
Aug 3   = Wife retires
Aug 8   = Tornado
Aug 23 = Earthquake
Aug 28 = Hurricane

A very interesting month indeed.

It's exactly what I have in mind too but ETH leaving the band is not so good, if graphic cards like 3060 and 3070 can go as low as their MSRP then I will buy more, something fresh will come up, and new opportunities will arise, hopefully 🙏.
The prices of those video cards will crash far below their MSRP. In the last bear market, GPU prices were half of MSRP. I expect to see as dramatic of a crash this time, since twice the cards are on the network. The RX 570's that miners have used for years are going to be almost free.

If eth actually does the august pos move this will be the most amazing crash ever

If i were to say some pc gamers get it and some dont i would be confident I am at least 90% correct.

I have seen plenty of miner beat the shit out of cards

but I have also seen lots of gamers beat on cards.

Also accurate.

As a miner If I need cards I buy used on ebay all the time (if prices are good)

I dont fear used cards purchased on ebay and to be honest I never had to return an ebay card. used or new.

Since we are trying to raise the bar here at WO in light of the recent trash content.
Here is something I enjoyed whilst on Holiday in Florence recently.
Lovely

Sorry already started it before taking the photo!

Mmmm... porterhouse, a fine alternative to flatiron and ribeye.

Vastly superior to frankfurters and 2 colors of slop or tuna dogfood.

Frankfurters are fun 🤩 I am still a kid.

Steaks pasture raise grass fed are a very nice luxury meat.

I order a lot of them from Missouri. I am also a big fan of brisket slow cooked at 225 f for 12 hours with salt rosemary and diced onion a bit of filter purified water in a large roasting pan cover in aluminum foil.

Added bonus the aroma and in the winter nice heat .

btc crashed below electricity cost, so I'm waiting for that
I looked at this graph. Bitcoin mining revenue never dropped below the power cost, assuming 5¢/kWh, even with a Bitmain S9j ASIC with downclocked firmware 11 Th/s @ 750w. Mining farms were able to scrape by during the 2019-2020 bear market, especially if they had a more efficient Whatsminer M20S or Antminer S15/17. They weren't able to pay off the equipment, but they could at least pay the power bill. If they couldn't pay the power bill, they would just shut down.

Okay check 18-03-2020, it says 0.07 for 1 THash/s, just one example, in 2020 good asics were around 70 th/s, check this article https://www.advancedmining.io/top-5-bitcoin-asic-mining-gear-for-2020/ , january 2020, profitability on that graph on january 2020 was 0.15 so was double of the bottom in 2020 on march 18, so in that article it said a 73th top of the food chain was receiving 10.50 usd per day, 8.50 usd was power cost and 2 usd was profit, that was double than march 18 2020, meaning, in march 2020 as profitability was 0.07 and january 0.15, meaning profitability in january was double of march meaning that 10.50 usd per day in march 2020 was 50% less meaning, 10.50 / 2 = 5.25 per day, power cost still 8.50$, so $8.50 minus $5.25 = negative profit of around $3.25 when talking about the best btc miner available in march 2020, imagine the worst miners. That is just one example of how bad mining profitability got in 2020 march, yes after that bullrun started in july 2020 with eth, btc only broke through in november 2020 and that was not the only bottom, we had more cases where it was negative profit using the best btc miners available and like I said before, imagine the average to bad btc miners.

well at 7 cent power an s17 in summer 2020 was on the edge of breakeven

right now at 7 cent power an s17 earns $5.90 and burns $3.50

as an s17 pro with good firmware can do 50th and burn 50kwatts a day.

so the farm clears 2.40 daily per s17pro  if the loans are paid and the building is owned.

this is not taking into account paying the help and fixing dead gear.
Lets argue 40 cents a unit so that s17 pro clears 2 bucks.

price would need to go to 21k and stay there. and the 7 cent power miner is at break even.

do we drop this low maybe we do.

POW was invented by satoshi because he wanted everyone to contribute. He said 1 CPU = 1 Vote and POS is nowhere near that.

Only the rich can afford to stake and they will control most of the ETH out there. So it’s very similar to the legacy finance system.

Right now many are mining at home and it’s decentralized. When POS hits it will most likely be held by the top 1%.

Why are they doing it? Well because we have an energy shortage and mining uses tons and tons of energy and ETH dev goal was to make it more efficient.

You either like it or are against it.

the correct solution is edit: a reduce tax mining for solar array development not pos.

My arrays work pos will fail and fail and fail and fail and and fail again.
7058  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Vitalik Buterin sets date for Ethereum’s Merge on: May 22, 2022, 02:56:38 AM
That's what a lot of people are waiting for! People like me who can't afford a high end mining gear can safely do pool staking once ETH moves to POS. Also the current competition of hash rate will disappear which will be great for the commoners like me. But the summer has just started so hopefully it will happen in next 2-3 months. Fingers crossed! But those people who have already invested in high end hardware to mine ETH, they will have to find a new coin to mine. That will be very interesting to see which coin becomes their preferred choice after the ETH moves to POS. Possibly a great investment opportunity awaits ahead for all of us if we can stay vigilant.

staking is death for eth.

it is why it is calling staking.

the vampire and leach on btc will soon be dead.

staking is a certain fail and can not work.

Why do you think that? Pow is outdated and not sustainable. From mining perpective, yes could be the end and thats just great (becuase of the way too much greedy miners.)

Usage of ETH will expand, with better scalability.

pos is a bond that pays interest.

most bonds paying interest have backing

problem with crypto pos  zero backing from any assets at all.

pos for eth is a fail on an unimaginable scale.

Pow is hard iron gear that turns energy into value.

I have been in on three projects with pow that have created over 450kwatts of solar energy.

using ltc/doge asics  btc asics and eth gpus.

two projects have paid off all the solar already the third project will pay off in two- five years.

all due to mining.

so part of the worlds power infrastructure was built due to btc/eth/doge/ltc

pos will never do this.

so in part  Pos is simply a tool of the old school bankers used as a weapon against pow.

pow simply needs proper management.

one suggest is all solar developed by mining creates tax free coins.

and all mining using coal/oil is subject to a higher tax rate.

within five years the world would double its solar maybe triple it.

I get so annoyed by pos pushers and pow detractors as they simply are gaslighting in order to screw pow.

7059  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 22, 2022, 02:38:28 AM

on the human race screwing things up on truly awesome scales i agree 100% and we are damn good at it too.

It might sound strange, but I think we should be good in fucking things up, if we want to survive in the long run.

Fuck-ups / failures, even the big ones, are needed for humans to learn from. That applies to individuals as well as societies.

But it's tragic that often more sacrifices are made than needed, in order to learn..

often we dont even know how badly we did until it is far too late to repair the damage done.
