Just a thought, if you hold 1000's of DRK in an exchange whats stopping the exchange from masternoding, even on a shortterm basis?

I imagine nothing.

But that would be no different from a bank deploying your cash somewhere else while you're not using it.

Actually, that's a good point. The exchanges could rake it in using this approach. Maybe that's half the plan  Shocked

(Re. Masternodes.....)

It's also a great thing for the initial growth of the coin because having lots of masternodes is going to get you a big slice of the pie, so there's incentive for big whales to move in getting huge volumes of coins whilst they are cheap.

Presumably the strategy needs to incorporate a hefty level of redundancy to support monopolisation of the masternode population and a sudden "cashout" with half of them disappearing overnight if the proprietors don't like the look of the proposition.

Has Evan talked about this ?

EDIT: Jeeps ! He's right there posting. What'dy say Evan ?

Those big whales.. 50+ master nodes running on amazon ec.. that's gotta be some serious income.  Grin

I must say, although I've only been in DRK for a few weeks, I think the masternode thing is a stroke of genius.

It shows the dev's got a bit of financial nouse as well as technical. I've been trying to work out how worthwhile it is putting up a masternode and I keep going round in circles because:

[1] - it lots of masternodes go up, you'll get less of the "pie"

[2] - but the price of DRK will go up because less money supply and more demand, so what you DO get is worth more

[3] - but if the price goes down, more masternode holders will retire and want to sell their holdings

[4] - so the remaining masternodes get more of the pie, creating more demand and stabilising the market

Kind of like multi-pool effect except it's based on a constructive principle that supports the coin technically as opposed to a parasitical one that does nothing for the coin.

Phew, glad i sold at 0.0138 and made up for my losses yesterday. Over 400 BTC just been dumped, back down to under 0.0120 and dropping.

It's not dropping. The 4 hour chart correction which has taken place over the last 2 and a half days is coming to a close. Momentum is starting to develop to the upside again.

All that happened was some whale hawks who appear to be pouring over the same charts panicked when it started to turn around and put in some massive early buys (about an hour ago) that drove the price straight back to 14. Since they were a bit ahead of the curve with their buys, the market's continuing to consolidate at the pace it was and has added 0.0015 BTC to the 0.01 we were trading at just prior to those panic buys.

Intersting analysis so rise to 0.043 is quite possible or may be more  , is it ?

being possible in an analysis and being possible in a market are 2 different things  Wink

your making yourself look like an idiot and YES i am better than you and i will grandstand high and tall and proud.. deal with it.

Well, maybe I should consider it an honour being on the receiving end of your vitriolic posts then Smiley

I'll have to start a new thread..."You've been Spoetnik'd"... for said anointed ones.

Telling the truth to counter people lying is not trolling

R.O.T.F.W.L.

A terrier barking at a tree. What you don't seem to realise is that nobody's arguing with you about the so called "facts". Nor is the main thrust of your posts about "facts" as you keep trying to convince everyone of.

It's the implications of those facts and the original intent that are under debate.

So stfu with the the ethical grandstanding and the "..hey man, all I'm doing is presenting the facts " crap.

you sleazy pricks will simply start lying and scamming about the next coin.. you guys don't give it a rest
you can watch your post history and see you playing all kinds of games trying to sucker noobs for cash

Nice. I think I rest my case  Wink

The linux instaminers that grabbed a huge bunch of the loot though got lucky here

How much of their holdings do those Linux instaminers still have left ?
7070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM Darkcoin instamine 2 millions DRKs (50% of darkcoin in circulation) on: May 17, 2014, 08:10:53 PM
Like i said, tell everyone else on the forum they should all turn up at launches and expect no pools nor windows qt

Don't forget to remind everybody that Darkcoin was launched with no Windows wallet and no pools  Wink

I think you might not have emphasised that point enough.

We are consolidating in a quite wide upward channel

Nice analysis.

You think it will go down that far iam new to this
is this what happens when coins go up that fast?

Yes, it is what happens.

I'm not saying it will go down that far, it will go up and down until it fully corrects and one of the bottoms might touch 7 or 8 before it does.

The reason it happens is because the rise comprises 2 components: speculative investments and long term investments. When it hits the top of the curve, the speculative investments go out of it, then some come back in about 48-72 hours later once it's bounced. That usually leaves the price at a stable level about half to two thirds of the way up the rise from the last base if the asset has genuine fundamentals. If it's just a pump and dump then it doesn't go back at all (e.g. CINNI, MAZA).

Looking at charts, this correction has about 48-72 hours still to go, although the volume isn't huge compared to the rise, so it doesn't look like being a crash. It may hover between a low of 7 and a high of 12 till Tuesday, then stabilise around 11 unless another manic bullrun gets going.

Interestingly, that is perfect timing for such a correction because technical developments are due just a couple of days after that and it means that we'll be going into those with a more stable and consolidated valuation.
7073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 05:10:10 PM
And we're back.

We're not back.

We're still correcting. It will go up , then down again a few cycles. The bottom looks like being around 9 or worst case 7. We're about 32-48 hours away from the end of the correction cycle at which point we might end up back at 11.

7074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM Darkcoin instamine 2 millions DRKs (50% of darkcoin in circulation) on: May 17, 2014, 04:37:22 PM
3./ Ok here you go the windows wallet ...also we fixed the diff and block rewards so you get hardly any coins now.

cryptohunter

Be advised that it was only *you* that didn't get any coins.

I got some and about half a million others did as well.

No worries. If you're still as desperate as you were back then to get hold of some DRK then I'll sell you a couple.

Bubble = Bursting.

Well your's is anyway.

Folks. Don't get too excited. This will take another day or two to correct (which means it may dip as far as 7 or 8 on low volume before completing its correction cycle back to about 11).

The rise was massive and it needs to be consolidated. Also, it occurred over a period of days (basically a week). So don't expect any fireworks for several days and even at that all it might do is stabilise and set a new base before proceeding.

Be patient and stick with your preference - either you're day trading, in which case take profits now, or investing in which case read the project roadmap to see if there's anything on it.

That's all there is to it !  Wink

This is false, 411.8 BTC volume in the last 2 hours just in mintpal.

7078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 03:50:08 PM
Folks, regarding the current price correction:

I saw this coming and held. Because I've traded in and out of DRK for the past 3 weeks and been stung every time I went short even though I'm using trading graphs. I've noticed that the whales like to pick their moment to get in and it's usually just as the 4hr MACD histogram is completing it's 2 day cycle back to the upside.

Then they pile in with massive buys and basically drive the order book up to kingdom come in order to throw any competitive bids out of the market.

If you check back my posts, I predicted the last rally exactly a week ago:

Expect a bit of a rally to start over the next 24-48 hours barring any negative news.

Order book asks starting to thin out. Bids thickening.

4hr MACD histogram has put in its first clear bar on the lee-side of the downwave with crossover projected in about 12-20 hours. 1 hour already flipped slightly wide after glancing off the signal line following Evan's little market 'fright' yesterday.

Analysis is further endorsed by the fact that last night's 2000 sat order book spread has been closed to 1000 by the bid side.

Seats please.

... and now I'm predicting a further consolidation of this correction based on the 4hr chart which looks like it might take us back even to 7 or 8.

BUT:

[1] - the correction is on very low volume. The money coming out of the market is a pittance compared to what went in

[2] - if you're not out already then it's too late because the liquidity isn't there to get safely back in as we're already a fifth of the way into the correction cycle

[3] - the fundamentals are helping to mitigate the acuteness of the correction. i.e. RC2 nodes coming out of beta and RC3 roadmap on the cards etc

So don't get surprised if the price goes down further. It IS going to because that's how markets work. I was ready take some profits at 14 and after pouring over the charts for hours decided not to because of previous experiences and seeing that the correction wasn't turning into a dump. With "dumps" you've also got to check volume. The price can be going down on low volume or it can be going down on high volume. This one's going down on low volume and that means that sharks are hovering waiting to pick their moment.

If you are investor, this is the time to trade on fundamentals, not price. If you don't think the coin has a future, get out now and mitigate losses. If you do think it does, stay in.

7079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 03:30:59 PM
Trolling is a fact of life on these forums. But starting witch hunts reflects poorly on all of us.

Effective trolling will raise an issue that people are genuinely concerned about, in such a way as to provoke a defensive emotional response. If I feel someone is subtly trolling in this way, I find the most effective response is to offer a polite, reasoned argument that addresses the raised concerns. This approach is beneficial to any onlooker who shares those concerns, it avoids playing into the hands of the suspected troll. It also avoids needless accusations, which is especially important if my suspicions are wrong and the person is just raising a genuine concern.

Great post this.

The issue is that people often overcorrect for trolls. If one were secure, the opposite of trolling would be the truth. But instead, we have a bunch of people cheerlead with blind faith. I've a long time supporter of drk. I wrote a webapp for it months ago to support it (http://darksend.it). I haven't sold, I've held. I will be putting up more than a handful of masternodes.

All these "trolls" you guys are witch hunting, they have made good points these past few days, which you guys ignore because you're so defensive.

1. x11 isn't anything innovative. It was LUCKY to be INEFFICIENT (this is a good thing) so that it has ended up lowering power costs for everyone. However, there was no innovation in creating or choosing the 11 algorithms. Evan didn't write a single one of them. He took them all and chained them. That's not really "innovation" when someone chained a bunch of them before. Just in different order|magnitude.

2. DGW is another correction of something that already exists. It's just a rebalance of something that was not fast enough at what it was doing. I can't be sure on this point because I haven't bothered to read the code yet, but I suspect this is true.

3. Darksend feature itself, based on coinjoin, which has been around for a long time. While there has been a lot of work put in to get it to its current state, which we are trusting on faith atm, time will really tell when it's open sourced. NOT when it's audited. Every single company gets their net security audited, some of them under heavy scrutiny a LOT. That means fuckall to the real world, where security breaches happen every day because the real security audit is open source. Bitcoin had been open source since day 1 and that didn't stop it from having problems 6 months? 1.5 years, 3 years down the road by vulnerabilities/limits being discovered/abused. The real value of drk development will be shown by vulnerabilities HAPPENING and the time and manner in which they are fixed.

For someone who has the slightest clue on coding and complexity/automata theory, all of this is obvious. The real pump isn't coming from whales but from this community zealously jesus praising everything.

Sorry. Just need to bump this entire post without further comment with it being about the most relevant and potent commentary I've ever seen on any [ANN] thread.

7080  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 17, 2014, 01:18:19 PM
Folks.

Whatever side your on - instamine scam or hardworking dev - please try to keep the antagonism level to a minimum.

You have to remember that reading and writing forum posts is a skill because there's no body language to help understand the other guy's posts and so there's a natural tendency to become adversarial.

You might be trashing somebody that if you met in a bar amongst friends you'd have a great evening with. And just before someone checks my posting history and calls me out on it, I've done my fare share. But I watched what happened on the Blackcoin thread and it's now totally predictable.

Try to allow people to ask legitimate questions without getting rilled about it because it just ends up in a flamewar and the substance of a perfectly good project will get lost.
