Our current setup so far:

http://7976711d6894623e687d-ba32c5fae889c9d78fffdd3f26939906.r74.cf1.rackcdn.com/IMG_0612.JPG

I plan to start a thread with our full setup and a video walkthrough when we get to a certain point.

That's kinda neat. Looks like you could have routed the power/usb in-between the 80/20 rails. I imagine the picture is upside down and that the miners are resting on top. Did you make that yourself?

Wonder if you would have kept the fans on all of them if it would have made a big turbine with a lot of air getting pushed all the way through....hhhmmm, makes me want to rethink a case design.
722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [GUIDE] GridSeed Miner Support/Tuning on: March 14, 2014, 09:33:55 PM

I'm running 19 miners currently on the Pi and it has not had any stability issues. As you can see in the screenshot below, system load is under 0.1, cgminer processes are mostly sleeping. Some differences from your setup: 1) I'm using scripta and a precompiled cgminer posted by someone initially on litecointalk; 2) I'm running two separate cgminer instances (10 and 9 miners). I would suggest for you to try the precompiled cgminer and see if that performs better. If that doesn't help I would start narrowing the problem by disconnecting half of your miners to see if there is one malfunctioning device that might be causing cgminer to misbehave.

Well it completely stopped so I switched back to Ubuntu server on the Thinkpad for now.

Will try again over the weekend but if it hashes less and produces more errors it's gone. Just communicating my results so far.

This graph shows that it hashes slower and the point where it died (12PM) before I switched back to the Thinkpad.

Have seen up to 50mm standoffs available. Make sure you post pictures of your creations here! Would like to see what people come up with.

Hate to be posting this (especially on Pi day!) but here are my results of using the Pi with 17 miners.

Getting the Pi working was a breeze! Simply loading the OS (Raspian) and logging in through SSH (after the initial menu config) allowed me to compile cgminer just like on Ubuntu server....although a LOT slower.

After modifying the text file for stability (as posted in this thread) I fired up cgminer and it started hashing. Things were looking good and I was elated so I went to bed. I did notice that on the Pi cgminer takes from 10-25% CPU sometimes shooting up to 50%. Figured that was fine as long as the little guy was working.

Little backstory. Before using the Pi I was successfully mining using a ThinkPad laptop with Ubantu server. I took two screen shots in 24 hour intervals on that computer. First was at 800 and the second 850.

Back to the Pi...so I woke up and checked in on the Pi. Was disappointed to see some of the miners were not hashing as fast and that the average was low. HW was also MUCH higher. Sad

Left it hashing and went to work.....checked on the pool to see how it did overnight...not good:

You can see where I started to use the Pi at around 2:00 AM. For some unknown reason it went WAY down from around 5ish to 8ish. Overall the hashrate looks lower than the Thinkpad.

Will keep it running on the Pi for another 7 hours but thinking that it will be going back to the store. I'm sure it beats using the controllers but perhaps it's just not fast enough.

My rig...

Not that it matters for scrypt...but why do you have the miners bowing down? Those shelves do not restrict allow airflow blowing up. Would think that would be better especially for dual mining?
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [GUIDE] GridSeed Miner Support/Tuning on: March 13, 2014, 07:13:29 PM
Looking for some insight -
I have one miner that immediately posts HW errors and will not submit shares. Possibly a DOA unit? Does anyone have experience with this issue? Can it be fixed or am I out of luck?
I'm using Scripta and a Raspberry Pi as a controller and my other 9 work perfectly, so its a bummer that this one isn't cooperating.
Have you tried connecting another miner to the same port/cable? Or connecting the presumed faulty miner to known good power supply and USB cables?
I have one dead miner but it doesn't produce anything at all, not even HW errors. Will be sending it back for replacement.
Yep, and I've tried to run it through CGminer and CPUminer in windows, used different cables and plugged it directly into a PC usb port. Same behavior. Bummer.

I've had 3 bad ones so far. When their good their oh so good....but when their bad  Cry

Anyone try out the CuBox-i? Comes with Ubuntu (and android). Do you think I could compile from cgminer from github on it? It's ARM based like the Pi.

729  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Custom Gridseed Case Build on: March 13, 2014, 06:06:46 AM
I plan on making towers out of them using risers, similar to what you did in the OP but more simple.

Then throw a bunch of box fans on them and call it a day. If I can get the cables half as organized as the farm in the picture, I will be a happy man.  Smiley

The only problem I can see is making sure the stack is stable and won't tip over. I will need to secure the stack, possibly at multiple points... at the very least make a stable base for them. I'm not really sure how I will do that yet although I'm certain it's possible.. any ideas of how to do it neatly (don't suggest duck tape Tongue )?

Obtain some standoffs...then you could creatively make a pyramid or anything else your imagination can come up with  Cool

If you change to right angle power and USB plugs you will get a lot more density out of these.

Yes, angled power and USB may be needed. I'm sure Cablesz could whip up the angled power but anyone have a source on right and left angled USB?

Wow, I was just made aware of this thread otherwise I would have posted earlier.

I purchased 20 miners from their web site and picked them up in person last week (Tuesday I think). Unfortunately I did not get to meet Hash-Master himself but his warehouse staff were very friendly. We spoke shop for about an hour.

They are a legitimate business with (what appears to be) strong distribution relationships in China. I do not think they are very active on the board so it may be best to deal with them by phone or email.

No problem.
Like I said, HASHRA.com is the site/company that is between the manufacturers and us, now.
I am sure they are completely open to quantity purchases at a substantial discount under retail.
They may not deal with 'group' buys though. Not now anyway. I really don't know.
As I (dimly) recall, their mass quantities were 200 - 1000 - 10,000 - etc.and the price didn't go below $120 each or something like that. Don't quote me on it.
Let me know what you find out. This could get interesting Wink
Wolfey2014

Excellent. Well, again, I'm not calling it a "group buy" if you will. I'm already prepared to buy approx 300 or so myself (at $160 each). Was just hoping to get an extra break if possible.

I'll let you know what I hear back then.

+40 for me...see if you can get the price down to $120 each  Grin

Don't need anything except for the miners themselves. Lets keep this simple and not deal with getting people power supplies, cables or any accessories.

Edit: I keep forgetting that the company I work for opened up a division in China a few years ago. We have frequent video conference calls and have already inquired if they could be a resource for sourcing product. If necessary we could have them deal directly with Gridseed on our behalf. They, of course, would require compensation for their time.

Do you know of any hubs that keep all the ports on a single level?  I already purchased and installed a 2nd RaspPi and have 20 miners on each, but in the future it might be helpful for others that want to control more from a single unit (which I bet it can since 20 miners only results in around 10% utilization).

Probably too expensive but here is a 49 port designed for continuous enterprise use:

How about 2 of these?:  http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030702&p_id=6436&seq=1&format=2

One for each of the Raspberry Pi's 2 ports?  We should be able to conceivably connect up to 48 miners per RPi...  Anyone had any experience with these or know its internal topology?

Or you could try two of these? I don't like the port layout though:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/393329/28-Port_MondoHub_SuperSpeed_USB_30_Hub

The one from monoprice looks nicer.

Also, this is the first gen product. There is talk of a 4-5U rack version coming out from Gridseed. Expect competitors to get off their butts and bring theirs to market too.

Started to get this error message:

No bitcoind connection when block submittal attempted!

Anyone encounter this before? bitcoind appears to be functioning correctly and the p2pool node does not seem to have lost connection to it.

Looks like it might have been bitcoind. Restarted and have not seen it since.

I have two Gridseed wiibox controllers available if anyone is interested.

Just the controllers. You will need a USB 2.0 A Male to Micro B (5-Pin) cable and wall plug to connect the wiibox to power. Most 5v 1A phone adaptors will work.

Paid $100 each so make me an offer.

Free USPS shipping.

Anyone have a good source on USB cables that actually fit correctly? I am tired of cutting the ones I'm getting with the miners down to size. I had one from an old HD that actually fit perfect so I know their out there.

This one looks promising but way too expensive:
http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-A-Male-Mini-B-Cable-Meters/dp/B001TH7GUK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394435998&sr=8-2&keywords=USB+cables

Do these from monoprice fit?
http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=usb+a-male+to+mini-b

I bought the monoprice ones with the ferrite core and the connector is just barely too big, very snug fit.  However, you can just bend the fins on the heatsink out of the way, right above the usb port, and then they fit great.  I also have some of the monoprice ones without the ferrite core and they fit fine with no modification.

Thanks. Did not see the version without the ferrite core. Will order those to see if they fit better.

Edit: Just spoke to one of their reps using live chat. He said he compared both versions and they have the same size covers on the Mini-B side. Sad Not sure if I should believe him or not.

Edit2: Went ahead and ordered 20 to see if they fit.
