721  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin... What's the point of it? Are you all deluded?!! on: July 01, 2015, 06:23:25 PM
"Bitcoin... backed up by nothing you cannot hold it, you cannot associate it with any tangible asset it is worthless code that can be changed on a whim... 21m cap, 40m cap, 100bn cap it doesnt matter you canth trust humanz to make this work... where as the dollar is backed by taxes, labour and the security of the government."

The value of currencies backed by taxes, labour and the security of the government can crash to near zero and have many times.

You're better off investing in gold/silver/property market etc something that exists in the real world you'll lose all your money.

How do you know? I've made thousands off bitcoin.

"This GavinXT vs BitCore is pure agenda... Peter Todd is a fool that speaks in cryptics and riddles and I have to turn the volume up to hear his estrogenal voice and simply suggests what I could make out that nothing should be done to scale Bitcoin with user adoption."

Don't be snide you scumbag.

"Silly billies half of the users here are addicted to Bitcoin thinking they'll be rich in a couple of years.... NEWSFLASH you should've bought in the 09-12 mark its not going to happen again they've basically flogged those worthless "bits" to all you mugs that buy around $200-$1000!!!!! for a few pixelz on u screen."

I bought in the 1-2 mark.

"Sure you can trade here and there but it ith not sustainable eny hoo can just dump the markat to 1$ again those 10,000 - 1,000,000 hoarders are gonna dump soon before its too late its snot a currency its gam gam gamblers paradise the reason all the big boys haven't put much VC in becoz they know this is crap they don't hath to because they OWN REAL ASSETS and 1mil VC in bitcoin is peanuts for them.... "

Venture capitalists have put a lot in. The market capitalization of bitcoin is over 3 billion.

In short, if you don't believe in bitcoin, then don't have anything to do with it. Nobody is forcing you.

He wants me! He's singled me out!! Shocked
723  Other / Meta / Lost a long post again on: May 31, 2015, 09:52:04 AM
I made a long post again, was about to post it and I hit something on the keyboard and it disappeared. Its not in drafts cause I didn't preview it. Do I really have to cut and paste forum post text every time? What did I hit??

Good post that.
725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 30, 2015, 06:52:15 PM
Its not really the point I was making. If you are asking that then its a case of "how long have you got".

The point is that when it comes to justice "whatabout" arguments are poor. An action is just or it isn't, regardless of what somebody else is doing. If somebody else is doing something wrong then they should be brought to justice.

RU created an open market for murder. He also seems to have tried to avail himself of those services, though that is not what he was convicted for.

I'd really like to know that he wasn't trying to have people killed before making him Nelson Mandela. The evidence says he did, unfortunately.

He seems to have just run wild, believing that he was untouchable. He wasn't. Sad, but at this stage I can't swear it is unjust.

726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 30, 2015, 05:24:37 PM
"Ross got life in prison, without parole for running a website which challenged the bankers' supremacy."

It didn't challenge bankers supremacy. Not in the same universe. And it also had murder for hire.

"On the other hand, Hillary Clinton has indirectly caused millions of deaths in Bosnia, Serbia, Libya.etc and she is running for POTUS now.
If there is justice, then it should be applicable to everyone. You can't say that some people are very special, and the laws are not applicable to them. "

Justice for everyone means making the powerful accountable to justice not letting the less powerful do whatever they want. Politicians and bankers should be held accountable to the law and we need to take actions to make that the case. However, RU should be accountable too.
727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 30, 2015, 05:18:09 PM
(This post is delayed for technical reasons)

"Hypocrisy is never a separate issue. This cuts to the core of what justice is supposed to mean."

No it is a separate issue.

To have justice people need to be responsible for their own actions in absolute terms.

If someone shot you and your family and you survived I don't think you'd accept any amount of "yeah but the governments way worse" argumentation.

One context in which you see a lot of this "whatabout" argumentation is supporters of Israel. You point out Israel's many, many crimes and they are all "yeah whatabout Hamas" "whatabout Hezbollah" "whatabout this" "whereabouts that". Whatabout them. It doesn't make Israels massacres and land grabbing any more just.

"Whatabout" defenses are poor argumentation and a glib abrogation of responsibility. If you don't like government injustice then go and do something about it, don't use it as an excuse for other wrong doers.

Thanks all, really helpful.

It seems to be in drafts!
729  Other / Meta / Very annoying feature on: May 30, 2015, 03:03:57 PM
I had a really good post written, quite lengthy. I pressed "post" and it came up "other posts have been made while you were writing this". I didn't care and navigaged away assuming my post had gone through. It hadn't and I couldn't nagivate back to it so I lost all the text. Very annoying and I don't care if people posted while I'm typing. I'd take it as a kindness if somebody removed that feature. I can find out if other people have posted after my post has gone through.
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 30, 2015, 02:05:48 PM
Balls is talking sense.

Blindly following power is a very bad thing but so is blindly opposing it. You are blind either way.

Apparently the logs show RU making shady deals with hitmen. If true then he is clearly a dangerous individual who's sense of power went to his head. We are talking about six people. One of the people was indeed an undercover agent, and if they were "entraping" him; good. This isn't entrapment for prostitution, he was trying to kill somebody.

The judge refered to this evidence as "powerful", not a term judges tend to use unless it is. He apparent was also targeting people living with an enemy. Even the mob don't hit the kids.

Even if RU was just playing with this stuff, he was playing "silly billiles" as we say around my parts.

I dislike all this whataboutery. What about the government doing this or that? What about it? Its a separate issue. Just because the governments crap doesn't mean one can do whatever one wants.

I feel badly for RU and have already told somebody off for mocking the fact he might get raped. However before I can say that his sentace is wrong I need to see how the other charges go. If he tried to have people "whacked" then in jail he belongs, plain and simple.
731  Other / Off-topic / Re: bitcoin Mastermind Ross Ulbricht Cries, Begs For Mercy Before Being Jailed Forev on: May 25, 2015, 10:22:21 PM
The OP is a vile sadist. I don't care what anybody thinks of bitcoin or the man, cheering  rape is disgusting. This would probably be acknowledged if it happened to a woman but for some reason it can be funny and a cause for celebration if it is a man.

The OP sees human suffering at its gravest and laughs. He is a moral blank, the very thing he accuses bitcoin of being.

732  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Do like to team up on: April 12, 2015, 08:11:37 AM
This thread very much reminds me of that scene in The Life Of Brain where Brain walks off without telling everyone what the secret is and then they all start following him out of curiosity, and he ends up with a giant crowd following him.

"Tell us oh, lord. "

"Will you all just fuck off!"

"............. how shall we fuck off oh lord"

That said I'm curious.
733  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A proposal to team up - But with a reasonably specific idea on: April 12, 2015, 07:27:51 AM
The purpose of putting bitcoin onto something physical is just to keep it safe and also allow easy trading in the physical world. You don't have to hold all of your bitcoins that way.
734  Bitcoin / Project Development / A proposal to team up - But with a reasonably specific idea on: April 11, 2015, 12:52:25 PM

Hi all

I see a genuine need in bitcoin for easier cold storage. Everyone does or should know the risks associated with hot bitcoin storage whether in a personal wallet or a third party site. I was a victim of gox and many others have had similar problems. Therefore cold storage is important and the ability to keep bitcoins safe and secure offline could build up very much needed trust in the bitcoin ecosystem.

The problems in cold storage are that its a little difficult for novice computer users (and yes, naive computers users should use bitcoin before anybody says otherwise) to use them. The creation of cold storage is at the least very fiddly as this article admits http://codinginmysleep.com/bitcoin-cold-storage-in-plain-english/.

A good way forward is items that physically bear keys such as coins. These coins, unfortunately, are often marketed as collectors items and have a very high markup above what you might consider the "spot" btc price (for this purpose), high individual amounts (1btc or more), aren't very tradable due to the previous factors or because they contain a whole wallet balance, and are not usually that durable.

How about teaming up to create a physical bitcoin bearing item that has low denominations (scaling upwards), low margins (we could do some collectors items), and is durable. The end product would be that if someone wanted to buy a bitcoin and have it in cold storage they can just buy it from us and not have to fiddle around with wallet files

Any thoughts are welcome including negative feedback or pointing out competition. I do genuinely see a need for this so your thoughts are welcome.

How will bitcoin help the ginger haired? Thats the real question.

You ok OP? Is it getting better?  Huh
737  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC goes to $1000 or more, what would you do? on: March 08, 2015, 08:56:15 PM
I want to put that funny wolf of wall street gif in but don't know how to do it.
738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin v. Bitcoin on: March 02, 2015, 03:54:56 PM
Fair enough thanks for your response.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin v. Bitcoin on: March 02, 2015, 03:30:39 PM
I second this. Can anyone explain the hate?
740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin v. Bitcoin on: March 02, 2015, 01:14:01 PM
There's a surprising amount of hate directed at litecoin, even for a bitcoin forum. Its not true that there is no potential advantage to litecoin. Here are some things I can think of. I'm sure some of these points are contestable but it is worth being open minded.

* It confirms 4 times faster.

* It allows one to diversify one's cryptocurrency holdings without going into the lunatic fringe of the more obscure alt-coins.

* As the price of litecoin has fallen some value has crept in. The community and infrastructure surrounding litecoin may not be great but its not nothing either.

* Litecoin transactions sound reasonable. 1 coin for 1 sandwhich, not 0.01 coins for a sandwhich.

* The litecoin community is less stratified into haves and have nots. It wasn't pre-mined in the same way as a lot of alts and doesn't seem to have as many as the same early adopter whales (many such people will frankly have been wiped out).

* Under-development can mean opportunity. Ask investors in China. There are opportunities in litecoin which have already been taken in bitcoin.

* Its not true that nobody is starting to accept litecoin:

http://www.coindesk.com/remax-london-accepts-bitcoin-litecoin-dogecoin-pilot-program/

In all I agree that the endless deluge of alts has hurt the quest for an alternative money system but I don't get the hate towards litecoin. You do want some diversity.

A good analogy is GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux has way too many distributions. This variety in distributions (and increasingly in display servers, and graphical interfaces), divides development resources, makes it harder to package for all distributions and confuses consumers. In short, it hurts GNU/Linux, yet linux people won't stop forking projects and creating unnecessary new ones. Some of these distros are maintained by about one person. Distro watch lists 100 distros. Do we really need "SliTaz GNU/Linux". Not really is my opinion.

I think GNU/Linux should consolidate for its own sake and for the sake of the cause of free software. But I do not think that there should be only one option for GNU/Linux. Why should there be? A little choice and competition never hurt anybody.
