721  Economy / Speculation / Re: Insider buying on: June 16, 2014, 03:13:16 AM
The funny thing is that insder trading in stocks are based on inside information of the organization, with bitcoin there is no business centralized to bitcoin.

What inside info would you have on the bitcoin network?

The inside information is regarding news related to Bitcoin in some way.

For example if you knew that GOX was about to suspend withdrawals then you would sell BTC on BTC-e knowing the price is going to go down in the near future.

That's outside information (not inside).

LOL

Inside information is usually defined by information that is not public that would cause the price of the underlying security to move up or down in the near future.

Kinda like how when someone is going to purchase another company, if you know ahead of time this is "inside" information, even though an "outside" company is purchasing the company
722  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage method (6%) on: June 16, 2014, 03:11:00 AM
When people find an actual profitable arb opportunity they don't usually tell others.

I try to keep that in mind when I read these things.

this is absolutely true with only ONE exception, their friends they are trying to help out, sometimes you get a friend you know well and wants you to do well as well, and will share their finding with you Smiley

best way to do things is to figure them out for yourself, info from even well meaning people often has issues that need ironed out, something i actually play on when learning more about manipulating materials in chemistry and energy research Smiley

Why wouldn't you pay someone who is successful in trading from teaching you?
723  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: GHASH.IO vs ELIGIUS.ST on: June 16, 2014, 03:09:01 AM
Can't I say cex.io is profitable because GHash is profitable. right ?

Yep, but this month some strange things have raised GHS price (hard market manipulation), and basically who have bought GHS two/three weeks ago can exit now with btc minted + profit.

Expecting lower GH price due to lower btc price now.

Since the GH/s price is measured in bitcoin it would likely not be affected by the price of bitcoin
724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Accepts Bitcoin on: June 16, 2014, 03:07:46 AM
LOL! They're not accepting Bitcoin. They're redirecting 'coiners to a shady site that will then send Expedia USD!  Too. Funny.

That is no different that what most other merchants do behind the scenes to accept bitcoin
725  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: any. thoughts on bit solo mining pool on: June 16, 2014, 03:06:45 AM
Came across this site was wanting to solo mine my s1 there if I can can ever get it running(long story)they claim to give the founder of a block the full 25 minus transaction fees for pool as well they are merged mining namecoin and keeping any name coin found for keeping pool up and running

If you are talking about the solo pool set up by Ozcoin, They are legit.

He's not, he's talking about this:
http://bitsolo.net/

Oh, i thought he meant solopool.net. This is why people need to be clear about what they are asking. We can't read minds.

Solo mining is really nothing more then using your machine as a lottery ticket unless you have a significant portion of the network hashrate.
what  r the odds?

If you have a miner that has 3.1 TH/s of capacity then it will likely generate one block every 14 days. If that miner has less then 100% luck then the difficulty would increase, and further decreasing the average time between blocks, making it take longer, on average to find a block. These are not specific odds but should show why solo mining is not advisable.
726  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What happens in the government if Bitcoin takes over? on: June 16, 2014, 03:03:40 AM
The biggest problem for the government if BTC were to replace "official" currency would be how to run the huge budget deficit which has become the norm in most "developed" countries. If there wasn't any deficit, with a crystal-clear and balanced budget, there should be no difference for the governement between using fiat or BTC.
The deficit is not created printing more cash, but by borrowing from banks and selling treasury bonds.   I don't see why bitcoin would prevent that.  Even if bitcoin replaces the dollar, there will be banks that lend bitcoins, even 10 times more bitcoins than they do actually own.  People would still have to pay lots of taxes so that the government can pay the interest on those borrowed coins.

bitcoin could hamper that effort by making it difficult to create a deflationary environment that makes it cheaper to repay such debt.

Generally very small countries wish to replace their currency with a currency they do not control.
727  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why not to trade with guaranteed profit? on: June 16, 2014, 03:02:13 AM
Criminal cases are ultimately paid for by tax revenue.
No, and if you were to control your autism you would have realized we were discussing civil matters.

If you had someone stalking you and needed to take out a restraining order
Why would I want to take out a restraining order? They do nothing to protect you, and SCOTUS has set the precedent that police departments are not obligated to enforce them, see Castle Rock v. Gonzales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Rock_v._Gonzales). I have a Kel-Tec RFB, FNH FNP-45 Tactical, Level 3A vest and helmet, SAPI plates, etc.

I am not sure what war you are referring to in the most powerful military not being able to conquer a nation of goat herders.
Have you been living under a rock for the past decade?

The government contracts private companies to pay build roads, and pays them for their services. Hence the government pays for the roads.
Your autism is strong. Watch this video and it will explain what the government is doing

728  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you really believe that Bitcoin will hit 1,000,000 on: June 16, 2014, 03:00:16 AM
It's unlikely it will hit $10 000. Sure, under a hyperinflationary scenario, should/when it happens, when a loaf of bread will cost $300, bitcoin can hit a million, but who would care about dollars then.

Totally agree with that! It is very possible that BTc hit 10000$, but in my opinion it will be a consecutive bubble and it will go back to 1000$. But right now i am seeing big drop to 300-400 for some weeks. Only my opinion..
BR
Gondel

Over the long run the return on bitcoin will likely greatly exceed the rate of inflation

It will likely and has done much better then that.
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending coins for neighborhoods to be more silent on: June 16, 2014, 02:59:43 AM
wait, what's the point of this thread? are you saying if you have annoying neighbors, you can get them to stop being annoying by giving them bitcoins? i don't understand the original point of the thread..

The OP was trying to show a use of micropayments being given to neighbors via bitcoin in exchange for being quiet
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we all write to FBI asking not to sell bitcoins but hodl them? on: June 16, 2014, 02:58:43 AM
Actually, with the national debt at 17.5 trillion dollars, those bitcoins even at 1 million dollars each would pay only 0.17% of the debt.... not even close to a few percent.   Why does the US marshals office get the proceeds from these anyway?!  If anything they should donate them to charities.

good math, but sorry, those are official figures.. if you include IOU notes on social security and many other IOU.. like the foreing country gold that is supposed to be in new york..  they real U$ debt if far beyond 80 trillion !  (source : Agora Financial)

like for the CPI, the entire world is being fooled by those "official numbers"...do your reasearsh, think by yourself, the whole system is on they verge of an inimaginable colapse.. Im quite surprised that all this bluff still old... the day the dollars value of Bitcoin is no more interesting is not so far..   soon bitcoins will be valuable as a mean of exchange for goods, without a $ price tag attached to.

Get a grip, all this is about to explode hard !

personal opinions here..    do your search if you want !

They need to sell the coins because of how the law is written
731  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Silk road related site on: June 16, 2014, 02:57:01 AM
Hello,
Is there any Silk road site right now on the internet which is real and not scam? If so can you help me register and use it? Never used tor browser before, is there any specific thing to know when using Tor? I will appreciate any help.
Thanks!

PS also not sure if here is the place to ask...
I honestly don't care what you put in your body but I would keep stuff like this out of this forum.
This is indeed what gives Bitcoin a bad name.

Not only what you put on this forum, but what you use bitcoin to purchase
732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Calling all Bitcoiners: SPEAK OUT against CIRCLE! on: June 16, 2014, 02:56:15 AM
There isn't much substance to speak of in this post.

Circle is a reputable company with reputable backers.

True that you don't control your coins in they are held by a third party like Circle or Coinbase... but there are a large number of people who prefer that due to simplicity.

Circle will likely increase adoption and help Bitcoin a great deal.

I've been to the HQ, I know the CEO, I completely trust them with my Bitcoin or fiat.
People do not like the fact that circle could lead to somewhat centralization of bitcoin
733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Government Bans Professor for Mining Bitcoin with A Supercomputer on: June 16, 2014, 02:54:42 AM
He claimed that he was doing research and I think he should be given the benefit of the doubt.
Could be...  but if he kept the mined coins for himself, then there would not be much room for doubt, I'm afraid

He kept the earned bitcoin, but there are still very valid research purposes.

He could have easily have been trying to test gambling sites, tumbling sites, and number of the illicit sites with the earned coins.
734  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Interest Rate on: June 16, 2014, 02:51:33 AM
If you want to earn some interest with your bitcoin, you could lend it out to others https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=65.0.
The risk should be pretty low, if you only do so with collateral.

The price of altcoins can be much more volatile then the price of BTC. There would still be the possibility that the borrower defaults and the price of your collateral crashes.

You also have the risk that the person handling your escrow scams you, even if this risk is low, it would dramatically impact your returns.

Lending BTC can be risky but the interest rate you earn is significant
735  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The size of the private and public key sets, and collisions on: June 16, 2014, 02:50:19 AM
There are 2256 public/private key pairs.

Isn't the maximum value of private keys based on the p of secp256k1, which is  2256 - 232 - 29 - 28 - 27 - 26 - 24 - 1 ?  It's close to  2256, but not exact.  Not to be pedantic, just want to make sure my understanding is correct.

For the people who do not understand math, the chances of a collision are about as good as you win the powerball jackpot three times in a row by selecting "autopick" in the same transaction
736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not new but... on: June 16, 2014, 02:48:32 AM
If you had posted with your BTC address then you can sign a message with that address and thermos can reset your password for you
737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hard fork questions on: June 16, 2014, 02:47:24 AM
Long story short, a hard-fork is when the protocol is changed as of x block

In order for this to be implemented it must be accepted by the miners.
738  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question about 1 TH/s bitmine on: June 16, 2014, 02:45:55 AM
what are Scrypt rigs

Scrypt is a different algo that is used by alt-coins (LTC is a major one).

It is significantly inferior to SHA-256
739  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is This possible.. Ads to each btc address on: June 16, 2014, 02:44:35 AM
Someone has tried doing this before.

They sent .00000001 BTC to several addresses. The originating address was traced back to a gambling site.
740  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: June 16, 2014, 01:43:00 AM
They follow the money and see what he did with it.  If he'd mixed it at SR for example, that would be good because it could've been lost. They say he dissipated the assets.  They say, you are in contempt until you come up with $X.

In short: She whores around.  She gets to get f&$@ed by some other guy,, he gets to get f$&@ed all over again by her in court.

in all seriousness -

how could they?

i like his plan.

What if he just said "I developed a gaming addiction and lost it all on a cryptocurrency gambling website"

Which in reality is completely possible and unproveable in the courts eyes seeing as none of the crypto gambling sites are registered with a government authority. Does this mean any married man who loses significant portion of his assets could go to jail for life for not being able to prove the means of which he lost it? Would be surprised if this was the case TBH.

If you cannot prove it and the judge is doubtful it will not stand in court

The rules of evidence are very strange in divorce court.

The person with the economic disadvantage almost always has an advantage in court

Of course and it is why you need a pre-nup or to be the one with the economic disadvantage

If written properly and executed properly a prenup can be very valuable.
