722  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin can not continue without regulation on: June 06, 2014, 04:51:38 PM
This is common sense. Don't be a pissy kid and bitch about regulations - they are all that's saving you from being ripped off blind in mainstream commerce in day to day life. Anyone who thinks they know better probably never had to deal with such people in the first place.

723  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If I opened a USA based crypto cigar shop on: June 06, 2014, 04:44:15 PM
You will have to be upfront with ATF about what you are doing. Just make sure you aren't connected to any tobacco smuggling business on purpose or even inadvertently, because many groups make profits smuggling tobacco from one state to next and skimming from the tax difference.

I might buy a box or two if you got dominicans or nicaraguans. Cubans are overrated.

No one is pointing out the obvious fact that he was fooling around with workplace equipment for his own personal benefit? That super computer wasn't his. No one would have cared if you were mining coins with your own rig, but this fool was misusing workplace equipment.

Another dumbass who gives crypto a bad name. Who needs ebil US government to shut it down when crypto population is doing such a fine job of ruining their own prospects?

oh man, we're going to see tunnel visioned miliary leaders speaking out against bitcoin. i can't stand those people; they are so narrow-minded and think the U.S. is always the good guy, and everyone else is bad.

LOL and you are an expert on military and national security affairs.

It's always the inexperienced and stupid ones that try to be clever.

If they wanted to - they can try to choke it hard enough it would lose its appeal, regardless of the technologies involved.

No one may control the btc technology, but they sure as hell can control those using btc.

Weak link is all they need - and crypto ties to fiat is one of them.

731  Economy / Economics / Re: The American Dream on: June 02, 2014, 05:39:15 AM
"It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."
-George Carlin

Another relevant quote from Carlin that I like:

Quote
For a long time, my stand-up material has drawn from three sources. The first is the English language: words, phrases, sayings, and the way we speak. The second source, as with most comedians, has been what I think of as the “little world,” those things we all experience every day: driving, food, pets, relationships, and idle thoughts. The third area is what I call the”big world”: war, politics, race, death, and social issues. Without having actually measured, I would say this book reflects the balance very closely. The first two areas will speak for themselves, but concerning the “big world,” let me say a few things.

I’m happy to tell you there is very little in this world that I believe in. Listening to the comedians who comment on political, social, and cultural issues, I notice most of their material reflects an underlying belief that somehow things were better once and that with just a little effort we could set them right again. They’re looking for solutions, and rooting for particular results, and I think that necessarily limits the tone and substance of what they say. They’re talented and funny people, but they’re nothing more than cheerleaders attached to a specific, wished-for outcome. I don’t feel so confined. I frankly don’t give a fuck how it all turns out in this country – or anywhere else, for that matter. I think the human game was up a long time ago (when the high priests and traders took over), and now we’re just playing out the string. And that is, of course, precisely what I find so amusing: the slow circling of the drain by a once promising species, and the sappy, ever-more-desperate belief in this country that there is actually some sort of “American Dream,” which has merely been misplaced. The decay and disintegration of this culture is astonishingly amusing if you are emotionally detached from it. I have always viewed it from a safe distance, knowing I don’t belong; it doesn’t include me, and it never has. No matter how you care to define it, I do not identify with the local group. Planet, species, race, nation, state, religion, party, union, club, association, neighborhood, improvement committee; I have no interest in any of it. I love and treasure individuals as I meet them, I loathe and despise the groups they identify with and belong to. So, if you read something in this book that sounds like advocacy of a particular political point of view, please reject the notion. My interest in “issues” is merely to point out how badly we’re doing, not to suggest a way we might do better. Don’t confuse me with those who cling to hope. I enjoy describing how things are, I have no interest in how they “ought to be.” And I certainly have no interest in fixing them. I sincerely believe that if you think there’s a solution, you’re part of the problem. My motto: Fuck Hope! P.S. Lest you wonder, personally, I am a joyful individual with a long, happy marriage and a close and loving family. My career has turned out better than I ever dreamed, and continues to expand. I am a personal optimist but skeptic about all else. What may sound to some like anger is really nothing more than sympathetic contempt. I view my species with a combination of wonder and pity, and I root for it’s destruction. And please don’t confuse my point of view with cynicism; the real cynics are the ones who tell you everything’s gonna be all right. P.P.S. By the way, if, by chance, you folks do manage to straighten things out and make everything better, I still don’t wish to be included.

Pretty amusing for a useless mouthy fool who has been suckling on the man tits of those 'sappy dreams' for all his life, yet finds it comfortable enough to bitch about it Smiley

George Carlin and the rest of those posh smart mouths are in fact the pus dripping from over abundance and complacency that is the cancer of any developed society.

Take note and check yourselves...fucking kids these days Smiley

Such ideas, and willingness to expose the hypocritical and unflattering images of the pure p/der's (scammers), are a threat to such people. One thing they can do is try and discredit the dev by sabotaging his coin and thereby trying to damage his credibility, although anyone can see two are unrelated and such vandalism merely reinforces the dev's idea regarding such people in the crypto scene.

Hence, the current situation.

Our community support can overcome this situation, and it seems the dev have already taken measures to guard against future 51% by working with exchanges.
Wise words.

Do you think that we, as a community, should be more audible in this environment? Should we stand in the first row, pointing fingers to the obvious and less obvious scams?

Or is it better to stay low, to avoid more attacks? (They have money, hence power to do a lot of damage.... but only until some point, I hope).

Should we talk loudly about the fact that NOBL was (is) the primary target for some entities or better stay quiet about this?

I believe that for now, we should keep going and let our merits and endurance as a community do the talking. Needless and disorganized disputes will only hiner us from achieving our goals, and it really doesn't serve any useful purpose. If such actions are required, I would ask rofo for planning and consent before putting things in motion. Persoanlly however, /i do not believe the time is right as of this moment.

Instead, I urge you to use the forums and twitter/IC to promote and draw attention to rofo's pdf especially, and also the infrastructures and efforts of our dev team in such as market place, amazon gift cards, etc.

edit: that might be a good thing, it could help to clear the crap from the scene. as well as help to boost the activity amongst the ' legit ' coins. and since Rofo is listed, and out front with the regulation and tax thing, dragging everyone into the light could only help us ( the crypto community, and the Noble community especially)
THAT is the reason (I think) why lot of devs simply don't like us.
They DON'T want to show their faces and they DO want to launch new coins and scam the more naive part of ppl again and again and again.

Right now, crypto scene is completely unregulated and, in the minds of many, that translates to 'free'.

That's the same as saying 'Wild West was utopia because it was largely unregulated and therefore free'.

Yes, 'free' if you are roaming band of tribal bandits or cattle thieves. Same ones praising the 'open' nature of crypto and childishly deride the idea of regulations are often the first to lawyer up or go crying to the courts when some things like mt.gox happens.

Everyday there are those around who couldn't care less if the crypto is around a year from now - they just want their magical internet money to sprout even if it means using the blood of others, and swap it out for btc then to fiat.

Nation states, regulations, and structure are all the end result of natural progression in attempting to create an environment where vast majority of those willing to abide by common standards can benefit and progressively advance without having to constantly look over their shoulders and thereby distracting them from their main goal.

The real question is not 'rah rah rah fite da powa' (which is often just shallow outbursts of impotent frustrations due to their own lack of strength and personal qualities), but whether you have what it takes to take hold and control your course of action that you may come out on top within such an environment, and essentially letting your own perseverance and merits speak for themselves.

Such ideas, and willingness to expose the hypocritical and unflattering images of the pure p/der's (scammers), are a threat to such people. One thing they can do is try and discredit the dev by sabotaging his coin and thereby trying to damage his credibility, although anyone can see two are unrelated and such vandalism merely reinforces the dev's idea regarding such people in the crypto scene.

..maybe one of the Devs of just another coin Grin (I still hold a significant amount of RPC)

Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. Here's what we should do, get every single 'dev/founder/representative' of every coin to show their identify. Not just the spokesman, but original thread poster and key supporters. Wouldn't that be a treat. Wink

I will need a trailer truck load of popcorn for that show.

Because we need to stop blaming ASICs when we can't even prove it is ASICs, there are hundreds (thousands) of GPU setups that can right now do what is happening.

PoS is less secure because doublespend attacks can be repeated and are easier & cheaper (relative to our current value) to continue doing so were someone inclined to act maliciously towards us. This marketed belief that PoS is secure and safe from double-spend attacks is ridiculously misleading. Especially because the majority of these PoS coins don't even use centralized check-pointing, a method considered by many mandatory to ensure the security of PoS at this point in time.

Mining is a means to create coins and secure the network, it was never meant to be focused purely on profit. We need to head towards and build a system where people don't mine NOBL to cash out and profit in fiat, they mine it because they support the coin and will be holding or using it to trade/buy anything they need from within our own cryptoeconomy. They don't even need to sell or exchange it, the NOBL they mine lets them do almost anything fiat would have. Crypto isn't about just restricting supply to newcomers so we can profit greater ourselves. It's also about putting the power to create money fairly in the hands of anyone, regardless of when they enter a coin.

Early PoS distribution over a week to 6 months has and will always be highly criticised the older a coin gets, as new 'investors' and individuals arriving will become less and less inclined to buy in to something that benefits only those who got in very early. Distribution criticism will be the fall of the majority of these PoS coins, if nothing else comes beforehand.

Again I'll repeat, it doesn't matter if it is ASICs or GPUs. ASICs don't cause the centralization, money does. Scrypt is just as centralized now as it is with GPU farms, the money is just in technology that is less efficient (GPUs), use more electricity, are hotter, and cost more to run, than ASICs. I want ASICs to render GPUs useless, take that how you will. GPU miners have been able to mine us for 6-8 months. ASICs are overall cheaper (relative to hash, we can't just keep using a $10,000 example), more efficient, cleaner, cooler, quieter, and more reliable. They'll get cheaper and more efficient as more manufacturing players pop up, competition heatens up and technology progresses.

The second people become unhappy with the centralization of mining power of a coin, which is inevitable either way with GPUs or ASICs, they will move to a new coin. In the process, that coin will end up getting more 'centralized' and the one they left will decentralize, causing them to move back or to a new one again. Rinse, repeat.

In order to attract users and 'investors', we need infrastructure, a fair distribution schedule, remain as free from price/supply/fork manipulation criticism as possible, branding and outreach, and we need to allow more efficient hardware to secure our coin and make it more trusted. In 5 years the majority of people won't even necessarily be miners, they won't care how it's done, but their use of the crypto. is what will support the miners from today. We need to provide a crypto. as free from criticism, 'shady' profit-driven forks (and I in no way mean that to apply to forking for miners), and unfair distribution accusations, among other things, as possible.

This.

If you wish to show your support for a coin, active assistance whether in tech work, monetary support, or mining assistance is much appreciated. All suggestions have merit and substance, but active assistance is the next step to really helping a coin and creating a solid base of support.
737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - **NOBL/$USD@VoS**MARKETPLACE/BULLION**50 CHARITIES/MERCHANTS** on: May 29, 2014, 09:13:09 AM
Exchanges have varying measures of protection against them. And yes, they have to cover the losses generally as they're the service that's been 'abused' and left at a loss after an attacker withdraws his BTC. The amount they told me they have lost is staggering.. and they say we're the only coin consistently being targeted..

Have you thought that perhaps we're being attacked this way by someone who wants us to change to one of these "fads" like x11 or pos ? likely to increase value of Noble so they can make bank.

Personally Rofo I would say switch to Pos, it would get rid of the need for us to rely on miners, Asics would no longer be an issue and you could modify the Pos script so that 1 wallet can only stake say 1million coins at a time in order to protect us from 51% attack, you could also incorporate darkwallet (not to be confused with darkcoin) https://darkwallet.unsystem.net/ for those who want anonymous and hey presto we got ourselves an improved coin with some attractive properties

Haha, are you saying that you attacked Noble?!! Cheesy

Yes it's me with my 45k Nobles and 1000hashes exploiting the vulnerabilities of our great coin to force a change to PoS Cheesy

Jokes aside though I really do think PoS or some kind of hybrid PoS is the next step for crypto's if you want to protect yourself from Asic's and also to avoid having to worry about hashing power for the network BUT there does need to be an advancement in the methods of PoS to protect from 51% attacks which with current prices of Noble is easily attainable but also less attractive a method to use for double spending as opposed to 51% hash power (why would you want to kill the price of your 51% share of coins ?)

As rofo may have mentioned and various people have pointed out, these new 'fads' are more hyped up than they really should be. They all have their vulnerabilities that makes them weak to certain types of attacks and methods of undermining the vaunted 'invincibility' of their algorithms. Changing to Pos for instance, is a very time consuming and delicate process that can actually result in more vulnerabilities for the coin. It would be akin to cutting off your arm to save yourself the pain of lacerated fingers. Pos with its already publicized weaknesses can overshadow the threats we now face.

As I said, these attacks are persistent but defensible against with methods we know of now. The question is, are you and the community willing to spend time, effort and some money to support a crypto currency that has a dedicated, willing and honest dev and will sooner or later catch the eyes of those who are even bigger players (those who are eyeing the coin and crypto currency from the outside at the moment)?

What we have now is both a tech race, and individual know-how race against those who will either hype up a 'new' tech to profit greatly, vs.  those who really want to create an innovative, solid crypto currency.

The bottom line for coins in this constantly changing world, where legitimate technical advancements such as merged mining are often overshadowed by latest profit drawing 'fads', is that a coin needs a strong dev and community that are willing to work actively to solve technical problems and fight against those who seek to destroy a coin.

We know what we need to do: Increased, secure hash rates in one form or another, and community willing to either help the dev themselves with technical assistance, or reach out to those who are capable of performing such tasks.

Let's make it happen Smiley
738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - **NOBL/$USD@VoS**MARKETPLACE/BULLION**50 CHARITIES/MERCHANTS** on: May 29, 2014, 08:27:13 AM
For now the longer confirmation is not an optimal, but passable measure against these interferences.

However, it's incredulous that other coins can be so set against Noble, other than the fact that Rofo's pdf was too truthful for their liking.

We as a community should gather together and support  the coin through active measures such as scouting for more technically inclined people, and hiring miners to ensure security of the coin blockchain.

Nolbe isn't going anywhere - these attacks have happened in the past in other forms, and we braved through them regardless.

Big question is, what impact will the future events hold? As long as we keep the blockchian secure or minimize the impact of these attack, we perservere and endure.

These attacks are actually inevitable when a coin with strong, dedicated dev decides to make a stand and call spade a spade. These are acts of petulant tit-for-tat (there was no tit from the beginning but greedy ones see competition everywhere) against not only the coin but the dev's idea of crypto currency, by attempting to discredit him through devaluing the coinage he made.

We should each support and actively seek to protect our coin by searching out for miners, technical specialists, and other means to let everyone know our coin isn't going anywhere.

Stay Noble.
739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Requesting Litecoin Pools for Merge Mining! Compensation Possible. on: May 29, 2014, 04:14:16 AM
Hello, LTC miners and pool owners:

I have an idea for a coin to be added and be merge mined by LTC pools - a coin with a good prospect, strong dev devotion, and dedicated community behind it.

The idea is to begin merge mining this particular coin with LTC pools, providing blockchain stability and greater security under the umbrella of LTC hash powers while gaining a potential involvement in a coin that has more in store for people than most realize.

I firmly believe merge mining to be the future - and also that crypto currency will inevitably draw in more a just a handful of solid coins as credit and stock markets have shown.

In such an environment, I believe it is important to draw as many supporters and friends with common interests to your side, and this particular coin I will propose will serve those purposes nicely, providing mutual benefit to all who are involved.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. If you are a pool owner and are interested, please feel free to pm me to begin the discussion, or post here with you questions and requests.

HP

P.S: If you are a dev or technically-inclined, please feel free to give your inputs on how this can be best achieved. I always appreciate advice and ideas from those who work in these fields.

Crypto currency world right now is a dog-eat-dog world, scammer and pump'dumper's wet dream.

The fact that Noble has not only survived but continue to thrive in this enviroment with relentless projects and dev efforts is a proof in itself that this coins stand above others in terms of both quality and seriousness.

Cryptocurrency at its current state cannot become big unless either big money jumps in or pumpers decide to support a coin - which means that most coins die out due to lack of price increase. In Noble's case, it can fall any where but it won't cease to exist simply because the dev will continue to support its utility.

All coins rest fundamentally on two things: Dev devotion, and community support. We have plenty of both. Eventually, perhaps sooner than we think during the price slumps and dark times, we may see great fruits of our endurance and labor Smiley

Stay Noble.
