Just as I got my hash rates up the price of coin goes down.

Just got my first asic. some timing right?. I'm also sticking it out. it'l end soon.

I'd say the time is now to buy some Antminer S1's from Bitmain. They only take bitcoin and I don't she them getting any cheaper than they are now.
722  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $2500-10,000 - Help Me Choose a Miner on: February 13, 2014, 01:21:09 AM
From what I've read, your best bet is an antminer s1 from bitmain.  They ship really fast (5 or 6 days)

I'd be leery about cointerra.

read this thread, people are still waiting for December pre-orders by the looks of it. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=444935.20
723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 13, 2014, 01:06:01 AM
When I switch it on with one pcie cable in, the light comes on and the fan doesn't.

When I plug the second pcie cable in, the light and fan comes on and it quickly switches off.

In either case, I cannot connect through the router and use it.

I am using a 500w psu connected without a motherboard.

I read 500w was enough. If I bought a better psu, would it definitely work?
What PSU do you have?

It's this thing  Embarrassed

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360834376354?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

That looks extremely cheap quality to me.  Not all 500W power supplies are the same, even if the stats say they are.  I've been using a Corsair CX500, works great without issues so far.

Would these glitches cause my clock speed on my BE Cube to go from high to low?  It has happened twice now in 3 days.  I ran on BTC guild for a day without it changing.

Just wondering if its this site or my cube.
725  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ntekcomputers umm, wow, TERRIBLE attitude! on: February 12, 2014, 08:58:18 AM
Doesn't really encourage me to want to buy from them. Anyone else ever deal with these people?

We are shipping our first batch of machines this Friday.  We build to order; the machines are too valuable to sit on shelves.

We do not appreciate your comments and would ask that you source equipment from another company.

Please do not reach out to us again.

my question to them below

There is a 3-4 week processing/build time for this item.

seriously? so how are you different from all the other scammers out there selling stuff that doesn’t exist?

how about posting when you have them in hand

you accused them of being a scammer and expected a nice response?

While their response was unprofessional, it wasn't completely out of line.
726  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 12, 2014, 08:23:28 AM
Cube now hashes perfectly for 15-20 mins, then 'dead'. Still power issue ?
What have you changed since last time. Is it the same cube that is failing?

And I've said it a million times, use slush's stratum proxy. Its so much simpler because in this case you don't know if its BFG.
using slush's stratum proxy now. purchased this TT 650 W, model SP-650P  (someone mentioned a few posts before it worked for them) It says uses single +12v rail. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153173
hashing from the last 5 mins. lets see if this lasts. Will also shut down my android phone if it stops now.
This one also stops after 5-10 mins (only one green light remain on the cube, fan is still working, but no other lights ON, and can't access the config page).
Give me a PSU name and I get that one tomorrow!
[/quote]

I've been running my cube for over 24 hours without issue with this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027.

I've been running it on high setting.
727  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best sites for mining gear / in stock / quick delivery? on: February 12, 2014, 06:07:17 AM
people buy pre-orders for a reason; to buy the top-end mining machines that will actually be worth something for a while.  antminer s1 is $1700 on amazon for 180 g/h.  cointerra IV miner( now sold out) is $6,000 for 2,000 g/h.  you're paying about 3 times the price but get more than 10 times the hashing power.  even with the rising mining difficulty, the higher end machines will pay for themselves and keep making decent money for a long time.  i plan on ordering the prospero x-3 from black arrow even though it is uncertain if they will deliver anywhere near on time.  cointerra is a solid company but they are sold out.

If you ever get one.  Is there any proof yet that Cointerra has shipped out any units? From what I can see people are still waiting for their December pre orders.

Still .00000433 more than you had before, with no effort on your part.

Yeah, this is my first time messing with anything like this. I've managed to change IP settings and such and I can get the stratum proxy to run, but I believe i have the ports messed up?

This is what the proxy looks like:

I've never managed to get it that far before, so I must be doing something right, I hope.  Undecided

Here is the cube:

The pool ports part confuse me though, you said "-gp your.proxy.port" and "-gp SomeRandomPortOn192.168.0.222" I used 8332 but I'm thinking thats wrong.

I'm assuming that has to match with something in the cube settings and on my computer?

Yup looks like you're making some progress.

Here's a list of things to change/check/update:

- Set the Gateway field in the Cube control panel to 192.168.1.1
- Until you get a Backup pool set up, set Pool Ports to the same value.  It should be whatever valued you used in the mining_proxy.exe command line for the -gp value.  8332 is fine.
- Confirm that 192.168.1.10 is the computer running mining_proxy.exe.  If you're running any sort of firewall on 192.168.1.10, open port 8332.
- There are several port variables in play.  -p is the port on which the stratum runs.  You do not control this.  You use whatever value the pool you are using tells you too.  In this case, 3333.  I found this under the Getting Started section of

https://bitminter.com/

It also mentions alternate ports you can use IF you have firewall issues.

-gp is the port which your local computer running mining_proxy.exe uses.  You can set this value to a value you wish within reason (there are some ports it may cause an issue with; but that's a very advanced answer for this level of discussion.  8332 is fine.

So your updated settings should be -

mining_proxy.exe -o mint.bitminter.com -p 3333 -cu IamCANADIAN013_JeffWh013 -cp 1 -gp 8332

And the cube should be:

IP: 192.168.1.13
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
WEB Port: 8000
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Pool Ports: 8332,8332
Pool Addresses: 192.168.1.10,192.168.1.10
Miners user:pass: IamCANADIAN013_JeffWh013:1,IamCANADIAN013_JeffWh013:1

Verify any firewall on 192.168.1.10 has port 8332 open.

Also you may have to register IamCANADIAN013_JeffWh013 worker via their interface?  I don't use BitMinter so I don't know.

Thank you so much for all the help, with some tinkering I finally got it to work. Didn't like my firewall setting apparently.

Do you accept donations by chance?

It won't be for a while as I don't want to cash out until I get a decent balance, but I would like to make a small donation as a thank you.
730  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 07, 2014, 11:34:30 PM
I really appreciate you trying to help me out, thanks!

Every time I try to change anything in the cube settings, I get: The parameters are updated or the system is simply restarted!

Even if I don't change anything and hit enter, I still get the same deal with 608 after.

I have to reset the cube to get back into the cube settings if I try to make changes.  If I don't and get the message. I can just close and cut and paste into a new window.

That's the message you should get when you make changes.

When you make changes to the IP field of the Cube settings, you have to use the NEW IP address to access the control panel.

First, start simple.

Presumably you have computers/devices accessing your modem/router.  What IP addresses are leased to those?

192.168.0.xxx?  192.168.1.xxx?  Something else?  Start there.  Sounds like this might be your first foray into some basic networking so that's probably the snafu that's tripping you up.

Hang in there.  You'll get it.  Smiley

731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 07, 2014, 10:17:47 AM
I am so confused here.

I picked up one of these cubes. I have plugged it onto my cable modem/router.  At least I assume it's also a router as it has wireless capabilities and has 4 Ethernet ports.  My computer is plugged into port 1 and I plugged the cube into port 4.  I navigate to http://192.168.1.200:8000/ and can access the cube, so I'm assuming I'm right up to this point?

I've downloaded mining_proxy, and I've tried to modify it with no success  I'm also totally lost now and getting frustrated.   I'd just like to set it up to work on bitminter.

I've been wading through all the comments and I just get more and more confused.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

*EDIT*

I'm just looking at the instructions that came with my modem, under advanced gateway settings it says http://192.168.0. I'm assuming I need to change the subnet, even though I can access the cube?  Whenever I do try to change any cube options, I get: The parameters are updated or the system is simply restarted!

Whenever I try to change my modem settings my internet goes out.

In the Cube control panel set the IP field to something on your internal LAN IP range.   If your computers are getting 192.168.0.XXX addresses, then set it something like 192.168.0.123.  But check to make sure .123 isn't aren't taken by another device on your LAN already.

Then click update/restart.  Then go to 192.168.0.123:8000 or whatever setting you used above as the new "IP" field in the Cube.  You should see the control panel again.

Then you need to get the proxy set.  Lets say the IP of the computer you'll have the proxy running is 192.168.0.222.

The basic command line format for running mining_prioxy.exe is -

mining_proxy.exe -o insert.stratum.address.here -p insert.stratum.port.here -cu your.worker.user.name -cp your.worker.password -gp your.proxy.port

So yours should be something like the following -

mining_proxy.exe -o mint.bitminter.com -p 3333 -cu YourBitminterUserName_YourWorkerName -cp YourBitminterPassword -gp SomeRandomPortOn192.168.0.222

Then in the Cube control panel set the following -

Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Pool Ports: SomeRandomPortOn192.168.0.222,SomeRandomPortOn192.168.0.222
Pool Addresses: 192.168.0.222,192.168.0.222
Miners user:pass : YourBitminterUserName_YourWorkerName:YourBitminterPassword,YourBitminterUserName_YourWorkerName:YourBitminterPassword

I really appreciate you trying to help me out, thanks!

I'm reading my modem through firefox through 192.168.1.x. I'm assuming the subnet is now correct?

Not to mention all the grammar mistakes.

Definitely a scam
734  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Soon only sharks will mine ... on: February 05, 2014, 08:13:47 AM
It seems the only way to make money in mining is to buy the most efficient miner (seems to be an antminer s1) mine it as long as possible until it loses good resale value, and then manage to sell it to a newbie who is willing to overpay.

I really don't see the fun in that.  Which is a shame, because I like the whole mining process.  As someone who doesn't know a great deal about computers, and someone who knew nothing about mining about a month ago, I've learned a lot.

Seems like the rich will have the money to get rich off of mining while they knock out and take advantage of the little guy.

Human greed wins again.

It's no different than the businesses here that keep having IPOs. They are all selling for WELL over what they are worth. Some are selling their IPO for as many as 100-200 years' worth of income, and people are stupid enough to buy them anyways in the hopes that someday they will be worth something.

PT Barnum would be proud

$10 is just not realistic.... Who would sell 1 BTC for $10? At that point you might as well just keep it.  Cheesy

Not sure, but I'd buy a couple grand worth at least.
737  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Whats a good price to pay now for a Avalon 200GH/S Bitcoin Miner on: February 01, 2014, 11:04:37 PM
i don't know the value of the CAD right now, but I wouldnt pay more than $1300 for an Avalon right now.
too inefficient.

It's about 90 cents American. It's taken a real beating over the past few months. But that price is close to my comfort level.  Been keeping an eye on one and its somewhat close to that price right now. Seems to still be a good resale value for them here as well.

I would wait till Feb 08 and get an Antminer.

That's what I am doing, waiting to get 2-3 more Smiley

This seems to be the consensus. I'm gonna have to do some research on how easy they are to use. Not really much of a computer expert. Even though I'm sure I can figure it out.  Seems to be a lot of tutorials on them.

Hi there.

I'm just wondering what's the most a person should pay for one of these at this point in the game?

I see a couple local for $5000 and $3000 Canadian which i figure is far too much.

740  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Offering Free SHA256d Coin Mining (Just Post Pool Address and Worker Details) on: January 31, 2014, 11:29:41 AM
I always thought mining with my graphics card was slow

For SHA256d coins it's actually terrible now that ASiCs are out

But...

For SCRYPT coins (ie Litecoin / Feathercoin / ETC) GPUs are still the best bet

It's a nvidia, I hear good things.

Actually NViDiA are terrible for mining

AMD are the best GPUs for mining

An average Nvidia GPU gets 1/1000th the hashrate of an average AMD GPU

GPU? I thought asic's were better?
