721  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: trying to recover my wallet with my seed but it just creates new wallets on: April 02, 2017, 08:06:18 PM
in order to ender my seed I need to press file then new/restore

if I just try to click seed it requests my password wich I don't have so idk what to do I got 100 dollars tied up in this wallet.

Go ahead and click New/Restore and create a brand new wallet and then enter the seed in the manner indicated above. This should recreate the wallet based on the seed provided.

Took a bit longer to fix images, but server was on for several hours already.

Upgrade has been finished, if you find any bugs please report them Smiley

Regards,
Alex.
Is this the reason for the late payments for this week perhaps?
Been since Thursday and have been waiting for them to come in usually on Friday night from when they have been confirmed to be coming in from I remember.
Anybody else receive their's yet?

Not yet, but they should coming in pretty soon I would imagine. Give it another day or so and it should get processed.
723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using LastPass as Bitcoing Users - Bad Idea? on: April 02, 2017, 03:13:18 AM
the better way is probably to store this particular sensible password on a piece of paper , stored in a safe place.

I also like this old idea. I actually have a little notebook which I keep somewhere but I just make sure that nobody can access it. Anyway, there are only two of us in my house and I am sure the other one does not know anything about the computer so I am 99% safe...except maybe if there can be a fire that can happen in my neighborhood then it can be a challenge lol. Having a good copy of our passwords is a good idea.

You could get a small fire safe and store it in there in case a fire were to occur. You'd probably also want to store it in a water proof bag or something to prevent possible water damage.

THE TRANACTION I.D. IS; bad273adabc99a547cf7be46c0ecb0c8e1161f636613a9ca1a4f71e720394315
THIS HAS HAPPERNED TO ME BEFORE SO I ESPECIALLY UPPED THE FEES THIS TIME BUT NO LUCK. cAN YOU HELP, PLEASE?
SHELAGH

It looks like your transaction already confirmed, but this transaction had low fees of only 50sat/byte. I'd recommend you make sure you are running the latest version of Electrum which includes some bug fixes for fees and that you ensure Dynamic Fees is enabled within Preferences.
725  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Error when signing message on: April 02, 2017, 03:08:14 AM
I seem to be unable to sign a message with Electrum (Windows, Version 2.7.12). I go to the “Addresses” tab, right click on the address, choose “Sign/Verify Message” and enter the message, only to get “(False, 0)”. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug? I’m using an imported private key if that makes a difference.

Error Screenshot

The version of Electrum you are using is outdated. I'd recommend you try downloading the latest version which should fix this bug as shown:

# Release 2.7.13

Hey guys! You have a great side as I also said before, but the chat is almost dead there and I think now I know one of the reasons. I just wanted to tip a first person who responded to me on the chat and wasn't able to do that because "You must deposit at least 0.1 BTC to TIP!" Without people tipping each other chat will be always dead. I understand that you want to prevent the faucet abusing, but maybe there are other ways. To be obliged to deposit at least 0.1 BTC to tip is too much IMO.

The reason why is probably because most people with a very small balance of < 1 BTC wouldn't tip anyways thats probably why they have that limit. I don't think the chat activity will be increased if people start tipping each other, it usually increases with more traffic.

The limit is more likely a method to prevent faucet abuse by users claiming and tipping alt accounts I would think.
727  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITDICE CASINO - BLACKJACK IS ON! AND CONGRATS TO COCTAILS WITH 70BTC WIN :) on: March 31, 2017, 12:54:37 PM
I found a bug..

The dealer hits on hard 17..pretty sure the house doesn't want that to happen  Cool

It's not a display bug, the game resolves and pays me out for this hand and numerous other hard 17 hits...

I can see that this was already corrected according to the chat room and is working as intended now.
728  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: new version warning on: March 31, 2017, 02:41:28 AM
If there's a new version out you do get a message in the status bar at the bottom of the electrum window. This feature has been present for many many versions now so I can only assume that you have a really outdated version of electrum installed.

I don't see this message when using the Standalone Executable in the bottom bar at all. Where exactly is it shown at?
729  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: new version warning on: March 30, 2017, 08:37:39 PM
Hello

I would like to have a feature added to electrum, and that would be a notification of a new version.

Everytime there's a new versions, servers get updated, and the number of servers running the previous version is reduced.
At some point (after a couple of days) I notice that my client is not connecte anymore.... and I have to restart it and check for new version, only to realize that my client is outdated and has a limited number of servers to connect to...

SO basically, a daily check for new version would be nice Smiley

Thank you

The best place to request a feature such is this is probably at https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues

The developers do read these forums, but using Github might yield more responses.
730  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: After instalation and type passworld the program turn OFF on: March 30, 2017, 08:35:04 PM
Thanks. Installing the Windows Installer download did the trick. I now have an Electrum wallet that doesn't disappear when I close it down and is installed as a program on my computer. FYI, when you install the Standalone Executable the wallet isn't saved anywhere in the Electrum [Roaming] folder other than a 2, or 4KB reference file (not executable), nor is the Electrum program saved in the program files. With the Windows Installer, it is.

The reason why I downloaded the (Standalone Executable) file was because I was following the YouTube guide: "Getting Started with Electrum" posted by Chronus Crypto.

He downloaded the (Standalone Executable) file to create the Electrum wallet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdVlH9N2oKU

I'm wondering what the Standalone Executable file is for - maybe to install Electrum on a USB, or another external hardware storage device? But thanks again for your insight.

The Standalone Executable shouldn't install anything other than creating your wallet/configs files for you in the Roaming/Electrum folder. I normally use the Standalone and haven't experienced this issue. There is also a Portable version that will store all wallet/config files in the same directory instead of in the Roaming/Electrum location.

From djmcg's video, he wasn't using the Standalone Executable and was using the Setup Installer version so I wonder if this is a different issues.
731  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITDICE CASINO - CONGRATULATIONS TO WONTON FOR WINNING 300BTC on: March 30, 2017, 04:01:53 PM
Today I will deploy new code, which includes BlackJack and makes some profound changes.

PS: Update will break current sessions and site will ask to sign in again! ETA for update within 5-6 hours. ETA downtime around 30 minutes.

Regards,
Alex

Looking forward to the updates and new features and BlackJack! Elixir also sounds exciting and sounds like it could definitely speed up the site as well!
732  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Desktop Wallet Safe Keeping on: March 30, 2017, 04:02:15 AM
To keep our wallet secured just be careful in phishing apps or malwares and just use a desktop wallet not a web wallet.
You can use bitdefender antivirus  its very efficient and good in detecting malwares.

I don't understand why you people here diss web wallets so much :/ I mean yes, they can get hacked a lot easier but it's the sam as with the offline wallets, if you're not careful enough you'll gt hacked and robbed anyways. I've been using blockchain.info wallet ever since I've started with bitcoin and never had any problem at all, because I tend to keep it secured and take care of websites I visit. It's not that bad..

Yeah, Blockchain.info isn't too bad as long as you use a good password. You can also enable 2FA for added security. I liked their old interface but wasn't a fan of the new interface and the less control their new wallet style offered such as lack of coin control, etc. That is why I switched to using a Desktop wallet instead.
733  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: After instalation and type passworld the program turn OFF on: March 30, 2017, 03:59:01 AM
WALLET DISAPPEARING AFTER INSTALLATION

I am experiencing a similar problem to djmcg. I have tried installing Electrum-2.8.2 on a Windows 7, 64-bit computer. The installation seems to go well, but when I close the wallet, it disappears and is nowhere to be found. When I trace the "default_wallet" (1st installation) and wallet_1 (2nd attempted installation as per ThomasV's suggestion) all that is there in the Roaming folder are two 2KB files. There is no shortcut icon on the Desktop, or anywhere else. Nor can I see any installed wallet.

I have gone back to the saved executable file and started the installation up again, inputted my password and it recognised the Appearance change I had previously made i.e. to list BTC as bits.

However, when I closed the wallet, it again disappeared, nowhere to be found.

When I tried ThomasV's suggestion and renamed "default_wallet" to "wallet_1". The program asked for my seed words (to restore), which I gave as given in the 1st installation. The program also asked for a new password which I repeated as that given in the 1st installation. Again, when the wallet was closed, it disappeared!

It seems that the only way to get into the wallet is to keep on installing it using the executable installation program.

Did you also try not using an encryption password during the creation of a new wallet file? Try leaving it blank and seeing if the issue still occurs. The wallet encryption feature is relatively new so if we can isolate it as being caused by this it would be helpful.
734  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is it really safe to use Electrum? on: March 30, 2017, 03:56:22 AM
I've just installed an Electrum wallet for the first time. In the [Console] details there is a "welcome to hachre's Electrum server!" (running Electrumx 1.0.5, Bitcoin 0.13.2)

Hachre sounds like hacker, but I notice that one of official servers on the electrum.org website is listed as "hachre" with the .de website country code for Germany.

However, further on in my Electrum wallet console the contact email "electrum@hach.re" is given. The .re is a website country code for Reunion - a remote French island next to Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

My question is: Is this a genuine Electrum server?

What you are seeing in the [Console] tab is simply the welcome message when your Electrum client connected to one of the many Electrum servers. Its basically an announcement when you connect to their server. This is fine and nothing to worry about Smiley
735  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum not restoring bitcoins from seed on: March 30, 2017, 03:54:17 AM
Hello guys,
Thanks for the assistance. I had totally gave up hope on recovering my funds;so I decided to move on with my new version wallet. Anyway, after depositing a few bitcoins my bitcoin balance updated itself Smiley I  noticed it had factored in my previous bitcoin balance. So my bitcoins are still in there but they were not reflecting on the new wallet until I made a new deposit.

Interesting. Sounds like that must have been due to a synchronization issue then. Glad to hear you got it working.
736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Slack Team on: March 29, 2017, 02:24:03 PM
Slack groups tend to be more specific into a general topic. A slack group for the entire Bitcoin community would be way too much communication to keep up with in my opinion. You are better off looking for ( or creating ) a Bitcoin/Altcoin trading group if that is what you are interested in rather than a more generic Bitcoin one. I'm sure there are already some out there but I don't know of any offhand.
737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Desktop Wallet Safe Keeping on: March 29, 2017, 02:10:24 PM
If you want desktop wallet >> electrum is fine. At least it's fine as long as your computer is fine... If you want absolute safety, skip this one.

If you want absolute safety >> https://github.com/MichaelMure/WalletGenerator.net Download this in a linux system. Turn of your wifi. (better yet, turn off your modem) Get your private key. Hide it away or memorize it if you can.

Walletgenerator is just for linux?
i want use it but my OS windows  Huh
Just use this: https://www.bitaddress.org/
They even have a brainwallet available from there for you to create your own passphrase to recover you wallet later on and doing so your coins you have store there for later use.

I don't recommend using a brainwallet password for storing your bitcoins. Bots tend to search for common passwords on these in order to steal coins and its not a very safe method of storing coins. Much better to just store a seed for a wallet such as Electrum (running on an offline PC if you are concerned about security).
738  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [HELP] Restore 2fa from master_private_key or find seed on: March 29, 2017, 01:48:27 PM
2FA wallets utilize a multisig wallet in order to achieve the 2FA with a 3rd party providing the 2FA verification/signing.

Unfortunately, if you lost access to the 2FA code, the only way to restore the wallet is with the seed. You won't be able to restore from a master_private_key as you will only have 1 of the 2 needed private keys for sending coins.

You don't have a recent phone backup that you could possibly extract the 2FA code from, do you? I'd recommend looking into Authy in the future to replace Google Auth. Authy handles backups much better and can store encrypted backups in the cloud as well if desired.
739  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: lost electrum password and seed on: March 29, 2017, 01:42:39 PM
Yeah, as mocacinno indicated, you have a good chance of recovery if you have a pretty good idea of what the password was by using brute force tools.

I've seen several other people have success with this in the past but it depends on how much you know about the password.

find an EXTREMELY trusted person to help you out (i'm talking about multiple green trusts, actual trades, no password changes, no email changes,...)

A bit off topic, but why does not changing your password make you more trusted? I'm assuming only because you can more likely guarantee that the account isn't controlled by someone else?

Good security practice does recommend changing your password every so often, so I'm not sure a changed password should lower someone's trust level as long as their posting style/etc haven't changed.
740  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: About the PoW change on: March 29, 2017, 05:24:58 AM
80% seems like an awfully high number. However, if it is true, that is not good at all. No one entity should control that much of the mining power.

A change in PoW could become necessary if BitCoin becomes threatened with the possibility of 51% attacks. Miners certainly will be opposed to these types of changes due to the amount they may have invested in their hardware though. Definitely presents another problem for Bitcoin to overcome.
