721  Other / Meta / The Yahoo Instant Messenger (YIM) picture is no longer working for our profiles on: November 22, 2016, 10:04:05 PM

I noticed this on a few people's profiles and was trying to see what picture was missing. I now have the YIM listed under my profile and as you can see, it's not working.

I realize this isn't a big deal, but I figured why not point it out.
722  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to become an Ercrow? on: November 22, 2016, 05:48:17 PM
You don't want to be an escrow. First of all, you have no trust so no one will use you. If you're trying to do it to earn money you may want to ask any escrow how much they make. Lots of people don't tip or don't tip enough.

The best way to tell if people want you to be an escrow is if people are already asking you to escrow deals for them. I know no one has asked you so you should skip the idea and just be an honest trader.
723  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Secret Santa ? I have a plan. on: November 22, 2016, 05:35:29 PM
But what's the point? If I sent userABC 0.01BTC and userXYZ sends me 0.005BTC it's just really useless, right? I'm just out 0.005BTC because I shuffled around some coins.
Okay,if you really are going to value the situation in terms of bitcoins earned/lost,the whole Secret Santa thing isn't for ya.It's not about how much you get/give but the motives behind it.It's just like saying I lost half of my money because the gift I gave was much expensive than the gift I

I don't see why people would bother shuffling around bitcoins unless this is supposed to be some sort of gamble. Maybe I'm just not understanding what the point would be.
Because sending actual gifts is just not feasible ? The bitcoins sent/received can be used to buy gifts as well ?

I guess I'm just sort of old fashioned in that sense. For Christmas I know some people give cash but I just can't do it. At the very least I try to figure out what stores they like and get a gift card (and that's only if I'm just really stuck and don't know what to buy them). It's just sort of a weird exchange of money and someone ends up looking cheap for giving less. Idk, just my two Satoshis. You don't have to listen to me Wink I just don't see anything 'nice' or 'christmas-ish' about it.
724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Everyone already knows about bitcoin" no.. no they do not.. on: November 22, 2016, 05:30:59 PM
Every time I go to the bank I like to ask them if they have heard of BTC, most of the time the answer is no.
I do ask a lot of people about BTC.. a restaurant near me.. near ish use to accept it as well, I asked to pay with it, they said it no longer exists.. .... ...

Most people I find still have zero idea what BTC is unless they are friends with the likes of us.. I don't think we are even in early adoption stage.. we are in "the chasm" .. it would appear we are going to survive though... appear anyways..

I dunno just something I have taken note of.

Pretty much everyone that has heard of it assumes it's worth like 5 cents and shits themselves when I say it's $1k (Cad) .. we are in very interesting times with BTC.

Hey a fellow Canadian! Did you get the freaking 10 inches of snow too? Lol.

Anyways, I talk to lots of people about bitcoin. My family all knows about it and has since I got involved with bitcoin but not a single one uses it. None of th understand anything about it. It's kind of ridiculous in my mind because I have lots of males in my family and it's mostly males that are interested in bitcoins! I think they just don't see the need or the point yet so they'll adopt later when they have a reason to.

Maybe I'll give a paper wallet with 0.01BTC on it for Christmas or something. I'm assuming if they own some bitcoins that should help them want to use it. $10 is $10 lol. If I got $10 in something strange currency I don't know about I'd try to figure out how I can use it.

Maybe reputatable people could all offer their services for free for a few people or something and it would all be within a small group of (most likely trusted) users.

So someone offers their translating services
Someone offers their graphic design services
Someone gives out an interest free loan (with their own discretion obviously)
People could advertise other people's services for free if they don't have a service to offer.
I could give out a free editing session for someone (lol woohoo! Merry Christmas! That paper will get you an A for sure!)

Services could be the answer because then if someone doesn't participate at least there is always another service that can be offered. Obviously some people's services are less popular than others (eg. My editing service has had under 10 customers in almost a year I think at this point whereas a lender would have entered out 100s of loans and may not want to lend out money to someone who probably won't even need it. Graphic design would be popular though. Who doesn't have a graphic design project they need done!?).
727  Economy / Digital goods / Re: .EDU EMAILS | ONLY $2 | AUTOBUY LINK on: November 22, 2016, 03:50:23 AM
The title says $2.00 but then the OP says $2.50. Could you clarify what the price is? Is there a discount if you buy a certain amount?
728  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Nintendo classic/ NES Classic on: November 22, 2016, 03:45:59 AM
Anyone here anything? I heard toys r us had some for about 5 minutes and EB games got a few more but I found out too late for both.
729  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: dont know where my coins are being sent too??? on: November 22, 2016, 01:51:55 AM
I'm not sure how bitblender works exactly but I do know that most blenders have a time delay so I would see if you in fact had any sort of delay set up. Is there any sort of document that you download before you mix your coins? I would check that if there is to see if there were a certain amount of hours before it would be sent back to you. That and make sure the transaction sent to the mixer address is actually confirmed.
730  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcointalk Secret Santa! on: November 22, 2016, 01:39:02 AM
I know a lot of people wouldn't Reply because they wouldnt want some random having their address (or worse, a whole list of randoms). Could it be something digital? So you buy someone a steem game and they buy someone a music album, maybe egiftcards.

Just my thoughts.
731  Economy / Digital goods / [Not selling] Old Runescape accounts from 2005-2010 ish on: November 21, 2016, 06:55:52 PM
Edit: turns out a main with all 99s only goes for $250 or so. I'd rather keep a 10 year old account for sentimental reasons in that case. Thanks FxR.

Original post:

I'm embarrassed to say it but I used to play a lot of runescape. Oh and I was damn good at it too. I quit in 2011 or 2012 I can't really remember. My brother has two of my accounts and doesn't really play anymore either so I thought I'd see how much interest there was for some of the accounts. I have lots of crappy accounts with funny names that are pretty much useless in my eyes but the two that stand out are of course my main which was maxed out (had the completionist cape but since a new skill came out no longer can wear it) and an old boxing account that's either maxed or close to being maxed for boxing (staking).

I have the boxer in my possession and it doesn't have an authenticator on it (which is new to me! Wish they had these back in the day Wink that would have saved me 2 red Halloween masks and a buttload of gp!!) The name is cool because it has a lot of spaces (you can't do that anymore ... unless they changed the rules again. I honestly don't know).

The maxed account (with an awesome name IMO btw) is in my brothers possession. He's having trouble letting go hahaha. For the right price it'll be sold since it's mine from the beggining!

I won't give too much other details because this is just an interest check. If anyone is interested and wants to buy with bitcoins I'm definitely willing to sell. I will never play runescape again.

I'll have to see how much money my brother has left. He started with max cash (2.147billion) and he sucked at runescape so I'm assuming not much haha. Hopefully he doesn't read this. Ah I just won't tell him where I posted this  Cheesy no worries.

Oh and of course there are tons and tons of overloads and untradable stuff on the maxed account. I'll see if he still has all of the dungeonering weapons that I collected. That probably goes without saying though.

If you want some other old accounts with crappy stats I'll sell those too. There's not much to mention on them. Probably some old pures and whatnot. Oh ya I had a prayer pure, a defence pure that kind of junk. Or wait I think the defence pure was my Torva pure so it's the boxer now. I may have another defence pure too I can't remember haha. Ask and you shall receive. If I see interest I'll try to remember all of these old accounts and sell them all off.

Silly question but if someone edits their post will the vote count as:

  • Completely Invalid - Scrapped?
  • Their original post's votes?
  • Their edited post's votes?

I'm not looking to edit my vote. I was just wondering.

Thanks for the clarification.
733  Economy / Goods / Re: Nike airmax shoes in $100 USD BTC on: November 21, 2016, 04:55:23 PM
I have some ~10 year old (used) Nike airmax shoes. Figured I'd post some pictures of ones that I know are real so people can compare. Of course the design has changed a bit over the years I'm assuming, but these are what real ones look like!

734  Other / Meta / Re: Ignore all local and/or altcoin boards option rather than ignoring one at a time on: November 21, 2016, 02:07:40 PM
I at one point was wondering the same thing, and then I sucked it up and checked off the 1,000,000 boxes that comprise the local boards.  I've also checked off about 100 other boxes of complete BS areas, and I think I now have the gambling section on ignore too.  It's a pain in the ass but well worth the trouble.  Yes I do wish it was easier to do this, but you really only have to spend the time ONCE.  It would also be nice if you could ignore individual users into absolute oblivion.  As in not even seeing their names when they post.

Yupp I just sucked it up and blocked them one by one. This day and age it seems like something we should just have one tick box for though. I'll have to agree with you about ignoring too. If I ignore someone I don't want to see them greyed out, I don't want them to exist (in my eyes).
I don't think there's such feature, but you can bookmark this page and use that instead of the normal "Show unread posts since last visit" page.

That will show all boards except local boards.

Is that somehow different than just clicking show unread posts since last visit? Where/how did you find that link?

You'd know if you tried it.  That will only show topics from categories 1, 3, 4, and 6 (local boards are 5, 2 is probably for hidden board).  I just made it manually after reading some smf stuff.

I did try it (and saw the different numbers at the end of the url) but of course I have so many boards blocked that it looked the same. Well thank you very much that's pretty cool!
735  Other / Meta / Re: Ignore all local and/or altcoin boards option rather than ignoring one at a time on: November 20, 2016, 10:23:07 PM

Oh. I should write this out a little more clearly.

I know you can ignore boards but to ignore all of the local boards you literally need to go through and check ~100 boxes off. I think there should be a way to just ignore every local board with one click of a button. That way if new local boards are created they're already blocked.

You can click on the little "minus" sign next to "local" from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php

Yes I did that for a while but ignoring them in settings is best for me.

All I was suggesting was a quick click of a button and they're all ignored guys! I think you all think I'm nuts (or incompetent maybe hahaha!). It was just me being lazy. Of course by lazy Iran clicking a bunch of times. Not going out and doing physical work. Who does that!? It's 2016 for crying out loud! I'm not going outside are you kidding me? That's how skin cancer develops!

Anyways I don't think this will convince anyone to switch things around so nevermind Wink nothing to see here.

That won't be fair If you ask me. You are asking for an option to ban all Localboards but that only fits you and some other members on the forums.
Other members would like to ban other low quality sections such as Micro earnings,Investor based games , Legal , Meetups , Press , Politics and society with one click. I know those aren't too many but I'm just trying to proof a point here , If you have some sections that you dislikes , you should understand that other users dislikes other boards and would like to ignore them with one click... but implementing what each user wants is impossible.

Um, what? Maybe you should read a little bit after the title. You can ignore whatever boards you want lol. I'm not asking to ban them. Hit profile, ignore board options and click away. Implementing what each user wants is already possible.

My issue is that I have to click ~100x just to get rid of them all and whenever a new board comes up I have to ignore it too. It's really not a big issue but I always find it annoying when new boards show up so thought I'd mention it.

I know you can go through and ignore whatever boards you want already but is there a way to just check off one box for ignoring all current and future local boards? When I hit 'Show unread topics since last visit' I don't want to have to sift through languages I don't understand (and altcoins but that only has a few boards to ignore). When you go to ignore board options there are more local boards than normal boards. If there isn't a way to ignore them all would that be implemented on the new forum?

I understand it's petty and minor so don't bother pointing that out  Wink. The only reason I thought of it again is because there must have been a new local board added with a language I don't understand.

Edited for clarity.
739  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reusing deposit address / I still don't understand. on: November 20, 2016, 02:17:52 PM
If you don't care about privacy you should still care about security. Here's a quote from Bitcoin Wiki

Quote
Multiple situations have been found where more than one digital signature can be used to calculate the private key needed to spend bitcoins.

It's less secure to use an address over and over again.
740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much would you have now if you bought btc instead of your first smartphone? on: November 19, 2016, 10:24:23 PM
Haha this is still very fresh in my mind because I paid half of a bitcoin for my new phone. I couldn't find anyone that owned the phone I wanted that would accept bitcoins so I sold them for $800CAD/BTC. As of right now my phone would have been $500CAD which all things considered would still be an ok deal. That's how much I would have paid after tax if I bought it off of eBay and it would have been even more other places.

The thing is, I use my phone for everything including posting on bitcointalk. So really it's an investment to keep earning bitcoins. If I'm trying to sell something on bitcointalk and I don't get a hold of someone for days because I don't want to be bothered to go to a computer I'll probably lose that customer so it all works out in the end.
