7201  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The EU are not going to ban "Anonymous" wallets on: August 01, 2021, 03:17:56 PM
Her statement is not a fud but she clearly doesn't know what the heck she is talking about and she only reads the script that someone else wrote for here.
There are clear proposals that will try to do the same thing like they tried in Netherland and forcing all services and exchanges to ask customers to kyc their own personal wallets.

I need to repeat her own words from the tweet, and fact is that there are NO anonymous custodial crypto wallets or anonymous crypto equivalent of Swiss bank accounts, so that Yahoo article is also bs:
Quote
Our rules will now apply to the whole of the crypto sector. We will ban anonymous crypto wallets and make sure that crypto-asset transfers are traceable.

7202  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 01, 2021, 02:53:12 PM
One suggestion is that youtube video should be made with instruction what to do when you try to register in forum and you receive Evil Fee proxy ban warning,
and that short (one or two minutes long) explanatory video link should be in the message that new proxy banned users receive.
If possible, video should also include some of the members profiles that have the power to remove this ban.
7203  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can one store/swap Bitcoin? on: August 01, 2021, 02:34:32 PM
It is not wise to hold any of your coins on exchange as we saw many times that exchanges can be hacked, leak data and regulators can quickly shut the down.
Best way is to avoid any stable coins like USDT; that are not stable in reality, and Tether is under heavy investigation by several regulators and it's right name should be Titanic not Tether.
Best option you have is to keep Bitcoin on open source wallets like Electrum or hardware wallet like ColdCard or Trezor, and when you need fiat currency use ATM machines, P2P trading or Bisq exchange to directly exchange Bitcoin for USD or other fiat option.
7204  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Verifiable builds need attention. Only 3 of 68 Android wallets are verifiable on: August 01, 2021, 01:30:43 PM
WalletScrutiny website added many hardware wallets on their website and only four of them had reproducible codes, Trezor model One, Trezor model T, BitBox02 and KeepKey.
I was a bit surprised to see that ColdCard wallet is still under development, but maybe @giszmo and his team didn't have enough time to finish testing for ColdCard and other wallets that known to be Open Source.
They made several categories like Defunct (feature many dead wallets), No Source (Ledger), Bad Interface (Coldlar, Secalot, Bepal), Leaks Keys (Opendime), Development (ColdCard and many other wallets), and No BTC category.
I noticed some hardware wallets are missing from the list, like Keystone that should be open source, and it is now replacing defunct Cobo hardware wallet.
Clicking on each wallet is showing small window with basic information, price, size, review date, links and detailed full analysis report.

https://walletscrutiny.com/?verdict=all&platform=hardware

I have the give props to giszmo and his team for keeping their promise and doing this huge work of adding hardware wallets like they promised.
7205  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Square is considering making a hardware wallet for Bitcoin on: August 01, 2021, 10:39:22 AM
Square recently posted new job applications for Senior Engineering Manager who can make their upcoming Square Hardware Wallet, and for Hardware Wallet Business Lead to operate their business model.
They have very optimistic goal of creating hardware wallet device for 100 million people, and they are hiring experienced people who can even work remotely.
Compared that with Ledger that sold around 3 million devices so far, and Trezor who sold over 1 million devices (I can't find exact numbers) you see how high goal is set for Square with 100 million devices.

Quote
Job Description
We're making a hardware wallet for the next 100M bitcoin users. Our goal is economic empowerment -- starting with bringing easy-to-use, reliable self-custody to a global audience. We're assembling a team deeply experienced in an extremely wide range of disciplines, including business, operations, design, software, hardware, security, and so many other aspects of product delivery. Come build the future of crypto-enabling hardware with us!
7206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Game with hidden Bitcoin on: July 31, 2021, 06:51:29 PM
You know the guy OP or just sharing?
I don't know him personally, but I saw the news and I thought it was a good idea, and I used to play games like this when I was younger.

Honestly, I've never played this game. Has this game been released? I will certainly try it.
Like I wrote in the first sentence of my post, game will be released on August 2nd 2021, but I guess you need to read the post first and then reply, not the other way around...

7207  Economy / Scam Accusations / OneCoin Relaunch - Ruja Ignatova DeepFake! on: July 31, 2021, 06:20:38 PM
Beware of new Ruja Ignatova DeepFake video made with hired actor, and posted on Yotube asking people for donations to help their scam project relaunch.
She (or he) claims that she doesn’t have access to the old account, so starting with new page after waiting for long time, she is back to change the world  Cheesy.
If you observe closely you will see that face is not acting normally and it is added later to this body with DeepFake techonology.

What is important to be noticed from her (his) speech is next few lines:
''Key people from my team turned out to be traitors and I have no access to servers or funds…''
''We need resources. And I want to hire the best blockchain experts…''
''I need donations and funding from you.''

Original OneCoin scam was started back in 2014 and it turned out to be one of the biggest ponzi schemes in history, made by Bulgarian fraudster creator Ruja Ignatova (The Cryptoqueen) that is still missing since 2017, and she is sentenced for up to 90 years jail time.
She was known to have several diplomatic passports and probably around 230,000 Bitcoin, so she certainly don't need any ''donation'' from anyone.

Don't fall for scams like this, don't contact them, and never send any coins to people selling snake oils like this.
7208  Economy / Economics / Re: Stablecoins 101 on: July 31, 2021, 01:45:31 PM
It's probably a safe assumption that the word "stable" in "stablecoin" means stable against the US dollar, not necessarily stable value in general. But I do agree that bitcoin is the "safest" hold, the one that's far more guaranteed to not be taken away from you; short-mid term volatility aside.
There are stable coins pegged to other fiat currencies and not just us dollar, for example Tether has it's own version of EURT traded on Bitfinex (read Tether exchange) and Uniswap, other stable coins are even backed by Gold (yes, including Tether Gold), and other real world assets are also used.
When I look at long term chart for any fiat currency including dollar I am only seeing that it is only losing it's value and situation is getting much worse in last few years.
Bitcoin chart on the other hand, looks a lot like reversed dollar chart and we are going up long term.  Smiley

7209  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to give btc users no transaction fees. on: July 31, 2021, 01:06:33 PM
I see a possible solution that can work with sending temporary private keys to other user that can use and activate that private key.
Something similar is used by Chipmixer and there is one wallet called Mercury that is using this idea for improving privacy on Bitcoin using layer-2 scaling technology based on statechains.
For sending a private key you don't need to pay any fees, but there needs to be some trustless solution to avoid scamming and abuse.
Another way is paying (almost) no fee using Lightning Network for sending Bitcoin.
7210  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ColdCard hardware wallet on: July 31, 2021, 12:49:05 PM
Never really thought about the security implications about the fact that transactions could show that you were using a hardware wallet.
Now your TX look like you are just using the core wallet.
With all the latest law propositions in US congress it's possible that they will try to outlaw or additionally tax any transactions coming from hardware wallet, so having this enhancement is a good idea coming in right time.

I am not sure how other hardware wallets like ledger and trezor are handling this issue with signatures, and I wonder is every hardware wallet have specific signature size.

Question for you @DaveF:
Is there a way to check and confirm integrity of ColdCard hardware wallet after you purchase it and receive it?
Something similar like for other hardware wallet I wrote few days ago:

7211  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTC-XMR Instant Swap Project (Looking for team members) on: July 31, 2021, 12:29:41 PM
Now that XMR.to has shut down, we feel a need to fill the gap. There are not any (truly) trusted third parties to facilitate this in a fashion that does not require KYC.
Instead of (truly) trusted third parties I prefer to have truly trustless option.
Before going any further with making your BTC-XMR instant swap, first check out UnstoppableSwap website, that is made for exchanging Bitcoin for Monero trustlessly|using Atomic Swap protocol.
There is no central authority that is holding any coins, there is no registration and no personal data is needed for swapping coins, but this project is still in testnet phase.
How is your BTC-XMR instant swap different from this project?

I am looking for a designer to execute our vision aesthetically, and someone who has experience in web development/blockchain.
The designer should have experience creating web design that fits a modern aesthetic that is simple yet functional. We will be needing graphics, but not many. Possibly some animated buttons too.
If you need to hire some developer or designer you will have better chance to find someone if you make a new post in Marketplace Services section:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0

We will also be seeking feedback from the community in the future regarding any fees that will be charged, features, and such other things. If you feel like you'd want to be apart of the team, please PM me, reply, or shoot an email to chainswapinc@protonmail.com.
I am willing to help with testing of your website and I am sure few other forum members will join.

7212  Economy / Exchanges / Re: IS kucoin as safe as Binance with non-kyc VPN accounts? on: July 31, 2021, 12:09:40 PM
Is kucoin safe as Binance in terms of accessing accounts using VPN? Have you had any problems before?
Kucoin exchange is not safe in similar way like Binance and I think they had at least one or more hacks, but I hear from other people that is is working fine with vpn, until they reduce withdrawal limit same way like Binance did, so better don't talk so much about it Wink
I don't like their concept of separate accounts for trading and holding, that in my opinions makes pointless transfer of coins and waste of time.

7214  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Check Integrity of Hardware Wallets on: July 30, 2021, 11:13:26 AM
Great thread but why stop there and not expand it to cover other known hardware wallets?
It's not easy to find this information for other hardware wallets, especially when you don't exactly own them, but everyone is welcome to contribute to this topic and post this info.
7215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos vs Adam Back on: July 30, 2021, 11:05:41 AM
Andreas started here on bitcointalk, and was quite determined to become a "bitcoin celebrity" right from the start. he's never done anything useful except regurgitate other people's ideas using an "excited" tone of voice.
I don't think that educating a lot of people about Bitcoin with books he wrote, and with his videos on youtube channel, could be called ''doing nothing useful''.
Not everyone can be good coder to be consider helpful for Bitcoin.

I somewhat dislike Blockstream people as well. Huge props to Adam Back due to his contributions to Bitcoin, but seriously. Both people have had huge contributions to this space in general, and it's not like Andreas is shilling BSV or something. People may or may not like Ethereum, but it's a decent experiment; and I'm saying this as a person that has a huge allocation to bitcoin.
I don't personally dislike people who work for Blockstream, or in case of Adam Back man who is CEO of Blockstream, but there are so many things they can be criticized for, including Liquid or his tweets and retweets about USDT Tether like one below, so I wonder is he now supporting Tether because they need it on their Liquid project and centralized ''LiquiDEX'':

7216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to earn bitcoin using blogger on: July 30, 2021, 10:46:21 AM
I am not sure about blogger but I saw there is an option to earn Bitcoin for your podcast with Value 4 Value streaming payments system that enables listeners to send Bitcoin micropayments to podcasters they listen.
Using Podcasting 2.0 with apps can load Satoshis and even Lightning Network can ne used, now all you need is to be podcaster and you can find full instructions below:

7217  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [LockBox-LBX] Created a Hardened Linux OS for Crypto Hodlers on: July 30, 2021, 08:16:47 AM
This is interesting idea but I would like to make a few suggestions.

- Add more information on website, add download link to github or other open source git website that is not controlled by Microsoft, like self-hosted Git service or Gitlab.
- I would remove Chrome browser or at least add alternative de-googled Chromium browser.
- Better alternative for Firefox browser would be Tor browser or LibreWolf that has removed telemetry and better security than Firefox.
- Add list of software included in ISO package, and consider adding links for other open source crypto wallet like Electrum or Wasabi.
- For Airgapped solution you can add OPTIONAL selection to disable all internet connection during installation, and don't install Telegram and similar programs.
- List your Linux OS to distrowatch.com to gain more exposure.
7218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Andreas Antonopoulos vs Adam Back on: July 29, 2021, 02:15:42 PM
I don't know if anyone noticed a small twitter war between Andreas Antonopoulos and Adam Back CEO of Blockstream.
Everyone could notice some hostility between this two happening and it is all connected with book about centralized blockchain (probably referring to his book Mastering ethereum).
It looks like that Andreas later deleted his tweet reply about Liquid (centralized sidechain developed by Blockstream) but some people saved it on time Smiley
I see Adam Back is tweeting a lot about USDT and L-BTC so I really don't know why he need to call out people like this, and it looks like hypocrisy  Roll Eyes

7219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Banking senate hearing (at one point hinting at going after code commiters) on: July 29, 2021, 11:07:05 AM
Problem is that this crazy regulators are now going after everything Bitcoin crypto related and they plan to raise $28 billion from crypto after new Congress proposal.
Any software like wallets, hardware wallets, multisig providers, holders and potentially even miners will be affected by new tax regulations!
I see people and business leaving United States in masses because of this, but it's probably going to expand to corrupted construct of European Union and other parts of the world soon, if people don't intervene:

7220  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: July 29, 2021, 10:39:02 AM
Not sure about the CC EAL 7 certification of NGRAVE.
I was not able to find the certification here: https://www.commoncriteriaportal.org/products/certified_products.csv
I don't know what kind of ''holy grail'' csv file you are showing us here, but Ngrave hardware wallet is not officially released yet, you can only pre-order it, so it's normal that secure element is not revealed and we don't know exact certification level.
Only information we have is from their website claiming they have CC EAL7 certification.
