7281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your opinion, NFT last long or not ? on: October 14, 2021, 09:30:33 PM
I think NFTs could be the most useful thing in crypto we've seen yet.  Probably a decade away from where it needs to be though.  People keep looking at them like they're nothing more than .png files, but the art is actually the least interesting thing about NFTs.  The added functionality they're going to bring to things like the events tickets market are going to cause some real world changes and make things better for people.  Not just crypto people either, but mainstream folks will benefit from NFTs being used in society.  Most people don't get this.

I'm just looking at the odds for the Regular season MVP from sportsbet, what can you say about it?

I'm thinking it's going to be close between KD and Giannis, so I"m surprised that Luka is somewhat the favorite this season.
I'm not surprised that Luka is the favorite especially how he's been playing the last two seasons. I'm more surprised that Embiid is at 7.50 while Jokic is at 15. No disrespect to Joel and the bookies but come on man, it has to be closer than that. Is he injured? What am I missing?

Luka is really playing very well, hopefully we can bring the Mavs to the championship this year so that the MVP odds will be validated.

Surprising the reigning MVP at 15, that's some disrespect in my opinion. No he is not injured or something, but maybe sports bookies are not taking him just like what last year when he was a long shot. Joel has been consistent in the MVP voting, it's that the injury somewhat diminished his chances last season.

I would agree Luka has MVP potential, but I don't think the Mavs are going to do well enough for him to truly be in MVP contention.  I also think Giannis has a lot to prove still.  I don't think he was ready to be made MVP when he got it, and now that he's earned it, I'm not sure if he's deserving of another yet.

I think I'd go with Durant as the obvious choice because he's the best basketball player in the world right now.  Harden might be a sleeper though if Kyrie misses a lot of games and he's able to run the point largely by himself for the Nets.

One surprising thing to myself about my own opinion...  I don't think any of the Lakers have a shot at MVP this year.

Oh, and uh...  If anyone does know if you can really buy these parasites, can you post the link?  Asking for a friend.

For all seriousness this is as close as I could get. I bet you can buy some nasty parasitic worms on the dark web though. You can get anything there.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2142897-parasitic-worm-eggs-may-soon-be-legally-sold-as-food-in-germany/

I've run across suggestions for about 30 years that a 'normal' infection of some minority of types of flat and round worms could have some beneficial effects.  The theories of mechanism are not necessarily absurd, and there are many many organism with which humans form a symbiotic relationship in order to achieve a beneficial effect.  Certainly I would not rule it out, but I'm pretty open-minded about such things.

For me, when I hear Peter Hotez say something it immediately acts as an indicator that the opposite might be true and worth studying.  This is especially if it is a recommendation/directive for people who are not of his tribe.  Same goes for Paul Offit.

I try to be open minded when it comes to the wonders of the natural world. I don’t know about worms and parasites curing homophobic tendencies though.  Sort of makes me wonder about all the microdosing claims being made today in relation to mental health.

Also, if it wasn’t crystal clear I was just making a joke about wanting to know where to buy these. A tasteless joke I should feel bad for.
7284  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: October 13, 2021, 11:28:40 PM
I'd happily participate in a podcast discussion (or YouTube). You may be disappointed though. You'll find that I'm not nearly as confident, eloquent, or accurate in conversation.  I typically review, edit, re-type, and fact-check a LOT of what I type here before it gets posted.  Without the opportunity to do that, you won't get the same quality of content from me.

I have a buddy who runs a podcast and is always looking for crypto guests to participate.  If you want to sharpen your skills let me know.  I think there's plenty of room for content coming out of this forum.  While a YouTube podcast would be awesome and I'm looking forward to it.  A more regular audio only podcast would probably leave room to discover a lot about our fellow members here.  I'm a firm believer that 95% of the people who hate and troll me on here would probably think I'm a pretty awesome person and want to be my friend in real life if they met me and saw my dedication to Bitcoin.  Perhaps more opportunities to showcase personalities and share information about our efforts on behalf of the community might help bring us together.
7285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What problems face Bitcoin? on: October 13, 2021, 10:28:22 PM
What problems in Bitcoin's infrastructure prevent it from being adopted more easily?

A limited blocksize makes cheap transactions unreliable and puts the network in a position where if it becomes popular, it becomes unusable while maintaining it's security and game theory principles.  The community also urges users not to actually use their Bitcoin, and just hold it.  Many people identify things like that as a type of Ponzi scheme and are reluctant to enter the space as a result.  Then there are the vendors who need a cheaper method of transacting in crypto and those afraid of the community that engage in censorship of others causing them to develop their own solutions to compete with Bitcoin.

In short, the only problems with Bitcoin are man-made problems to push man-made solutions under the guise of decentralization while giving early adopters a larger slice of the pie.
7286  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Annihilating Parasites Cured Me From Being Gay on: October 13, 2021, 10:18:37 PM
The sad part about things like this is that you know someone out there with some sort of mental issues going on has believed and even tried this nonsense.  This is the sort of thing that you have to wonder why someone would go through the effort of creating such misinformation.  Is it a misguided attempt at making a joke that missed the mark?  In any event, I have a hard time believing this nonsense has any basis in reality whatsoever.  Without a scam product to sell along side it, makes you wonder why people spend their time on such trolling...

Oh, and uh...  If anyone does know if you can really buy these parasites, can you post the link?  Asking for a friend.
7287  Other / Off-topic / Re: YouTube deleting comments, any idea why? on: October 13, 2021, 10:13:31 PM
YouTube seems to have a love/hate relationship with Bitcoin.  I noticed that a couple of days ago they made waves in the community by removing Pomp's Best Business Show.  They deleted his entire channel just for having a guest on that mentioned his believed Bitcoin would trade over a million dollars in 4 years.  The channel was reinstated same day, but they have shined a light on what's happening to all Bitcoin content creators on their platform, and most don't have the reach and contacts to be able to get their channel back in a few hours.

7288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do's and Don't in the Bitcoin forum. on: October 13, 2021, 09:22:32 PM
Do: Spam to make Bitcoin. Harass newbies. Hand out lots of negative feedback. Make allegations against honest people and ignore blockchain evidence. Report posts of people who you don’t like their opinions. Cycle merit with your friends. Create useless stats. Support your opinions and attack your detractors with alt accounts. Do and say whatever you need to in order to have a bigger influence on the trust network. Agree with whatever theymos says and when he flips his opinion and goes the opposite direction, agree with that too.

Don’t: Build community projects. Discuss open source project forks. Offer to sell products for Bitcoin. Use your Bitcoin. Question authority.

It took me a decade, but I think I figured out the magic formula to make you popular around here.
7289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: October 13, 2021, 08:58:54 AM
I read a quote today that I felt really shined a light on the overreaction by today’s society to covid. Remember when Magic Johnson played in the NBA with full blown AIDS? How far have we fallen that now they won’t even let Kyrie play because he has refused to get a covid vaccine? Not even being sick with covid, just refusing a vaccine…. It doesn’t seem real.
7290  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 13, 2021, 08:46:12 AM
Feels like we’re ebbing and flowing our way higher and higher. Resistance continues to become support and the chart is looking good. I think we might need a little sideways action before we test the old highs, but I still see all the signs that an end of the month Halloween rally is in the cards for us. I would feel pretty good if I had November 1st in the pool as the date for a new ATH.
7291  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Interest Check] Casascius Brass 0.5 BTC Coin on: October 13, 2021, 08:25:19 AM
Has this coin been posted on the internet before? Like a picture of it? Some people prefer that the coins they buy don't have the address exposed.

I think we are all hoping you purchased this direct

No, I did not purchase this directly from Casascius.  The only coins I purchased directly from Casascius were his precious metal offerings.  The brass coins were all bought right here on this forum.  You could probably dig through my feedback ratings and find the sales, likely 5-6 years ago, if you were so inclined.  I can't imagine it would make that much of a difference to a perspective buyer, but if so I could always search my private messages and try to find it's source.  If I were a guessing man I'd say maybe monkeynuts or another reputable seller around here.
7292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ZED - Race, Breed, and Trade Digital Racehorses on: October 13, 2021, 07:25:22 AM
I was looking into Zed Run and am somewhat surprised to see there isn't more discussion happening here given it's extreme popularity.  Is there another thread or has this flown under the radar for bitcoiners?  As one of the most popular NFTs on the Polygon chain, and an extremely popular gambling service, I'm surprised it isn't a staple around here.  Perhaps because they don't need to be.  In any event, I'm curious about people's current thoughts on Zed Run if anyone is using it.
7293  Economy / Collectibles / [Interest Check] Casascius Brass 0.5 BTC Coin on: October 12, 2021, 10:12:29 PM
I have an intact brass 0.5 Casascius coin that I have been considering offering for sale on these boards for a while but haven't gotten around to doing so.  The coin is ungraded but has been kept in a coin capsule for many years now and is in good shape (will post pictures if there's interest).  I am not sure if any of these are currently available anywhere, so I figured this was a good way to dip my toe in and find out.  I'd offer mine for 0.69 BTC currently and am open to having others point out recent sales or available coins at a lower price.  Smiley
7294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you quit Bitcoin if a shitcoin like Ethereum surpassed it? on: October 12, 2021, 10:05:46 PM
Bitcoin's current most popular use cases are holding it and using it to buy altcoins.  If an altcoin were to surpass Bitcoin in market cap and also provide useful functionality, Bitcoin would find itself in a position where it's worth is derived strictly from the greater fool theory or suboptimal off-chain networks.  At that point it would be very difficult to make the investment case for Bitcoin and the entire market would be thrown in turmoil.  I'm not foolish enough to think Bitcoin can keep promoting itself through toxic maximalism and maintain it's lead in the crypto space, but I am experienced enough to know Wall Street and governments now pumping it will make the ship pretty large to turn, so it will likely be longer than expected before Bitcoin is lumped in with the rest of cryptocurrencies and it's valuation is reflected as such.
7295  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bitcoin going to burst anytime soon on: October 12, 2021, 09:52:54 PM
As a curious watcher of the Bitcoin 4-year fractal, I know I'd feel a bit uneasy holding a ton of Bitcoin around Christmas time without having cashed some out in early December when historically the market has peaked and then seen crushing negative returns for the next year or two.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a $200K Bitcoin in December of 2021, and then a $40K Bitcoin in early 2022 as the market capitulates after being spurred by profit taking.  It is almost to be expected at this point.  I'd recommend people tune out the daily manmade drama surrounding Bitcoin and focus on the math and the patterns.
7296  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] 3080TI GPUs on: October 12, 2021, 09:48:56 PM
I’ve got a desktop in need of a gpu as well. At least you can find them in stock places now, but I haven’t been able to find any way to get my hands on one at MSRP. I’m holding out in faith it’ll be possible at the end of the year, but that isn’t based on anything other than my own wishful thinking. I’d pretty much buy any current generation GPU at MSRP if I could find one…

I am still looking around for some GPUs. MSRP? I have no idea what that even means anymore OgNasty Smiley haha You still operating a mining facility?

I have quite a few friends in odd places throughout the country who have been able to just walk into stores and buy them.  I know someone in Alaska who has been making a ton of money just by going to the store once a week and grabbing GPUs to resell.  I guess it pays to be away from society in more ways than one.

I wouldn't say I'm running a mining facility, but I've got some ASICs and GPUs mining away.  Been mining since July of 2011 until now without a single day ever having passed without me submitting a hash.  Smiley

We are still paying out weekly BTC distributions to NastyFans seats owners (https://nastyfans.org) and have been for nearly a decade now, while also selling some pretty awesome coins at https://nastyfans.org/mint

Feel free to stop in and get yourself a collectible.
7297  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price of an iPhone in Bitcoin at their launch over the years. on: October 12, 2021, 09:35:33 PM
I can personally attest to this as I once spent somewhere around 1.5 BTC on an iPad mini.  I still have it, but it doesn't really work too well anymore considering how old it is.  I did get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but I think given the opportunity to redo that trade, I would probably pass today and use the saved Bitcoin to buy a Tesla or spend a year in the Bahamas.  Still not even close to the most careless use of Bitcoin I've got in my history, sadly.

This does highlight how literally everything has failed to keep pace with Bitcoin's meteoric rise.  Even the most popular consumer device.
7298  Economy / Collectibles / Re: (NFT'S) Anyone want to comment on them? on: October 12, 2021, 09:14:50 PM
If anyone was interested in releasing their own NFT collection, I could provide assistance with generating art from layers, building a minting dapp for a website, or writing/compiling and pushing the smart contract to the blockchain.

A community project where we all built an NFT collection together might be fun, but I can't imagine how that process would look and who would have what role.  Just a thought.  Happy to help out however I can with anyone's entrance into the NFT space as a creator or collector.  Smiley
7299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: October 12, 2021, 08:49:49 PM
Warriors vs Lakers tonight on TNT. A preview matchup of their season opener that will be played in just one week. Something tells me the outcome of the two games will be vastly different, but maybe we’ll get a glimpse of the stars going at it tonight at some point.

The NBA is back baby!!!
7300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Estimates for an NFT based gaming platform (to be made). on: October 12, 2021, 09:07:54 AM
Learn to do it yourself and there are no costs. Plenty of developers make content to help people create things like NFT games without a lot of knowledge or effort. You might be surprised at the low barrier of entry to the NFT market. Do some searching around YouTube. I’m dairy confident someone with no programming experience could make their own customized NFT game in a week while watching YouTube videos.
