it's still not terrible.  win some/lose some

My thoughts exactly. The risks were clearly spelled out. I knew this would be a possible outcome. I have a good attitude about it Smiley

... and was thinking that it might be able to be "repurposed".

If so, that would be great.

After that - kaput.
Aye aye - it seems as if we shall be sunk to the bottom, to sail the friendly seas no more.

As a starfish, you may have some coping mechanisms. As a land-dweller, I might be able to use a few tips in sea-floor survival. Smiley

edit: spelling
7283  Economy / Securities / Re: Projected Dividends for PPT.DIV shares on: August 16, 2012, 06:57:50 AM
I hold a little .DIV, and I typically am holding a little of each of the active [.A .B .C .D .E] at any given time.

I think your plan of having them mature at 1.20 BTC makes the most sense to me. As it is tied to the public BS&T interest rate, it is easy to grasp.

I have seen the arguments about how the eventual redemption should be pegged to some mystical 1.00, as that is how things are done 'in the real world'. I really don't give a bilge rat's nethers for how things are supposed to be done, as per the models built for exchanges dealing in fiat.

Accordingly, I think I like the model that has been adopted, where bonds open at a nominal 1.00 face value, and are redeemed for 1 + daily interest * 28. But my argument amounts essentially to nothing more than 'it is what has been our mode of operation'.

I guess the counterargument would be that redemption at 1.00 might lead to a more profitable IPO. I suppose it could, but I would think this would be a wash.

As far as the initial sale price, the greedy .DIV owner in me would like to see what little profit we have maintained. If all bonds sold at 1.00 (or 0.83333), and redeemed at 1.20 (or 1.00), there ain't any (.DIV profit, that is). Indeed, after overheads, would we not be running at a loss? Issues have been selling out, albeit slowly, correct? I certainly don't want to be subsidizing the operation. We need a floor somewhere. I would think you would like a minimum offer price that ensures you are compensated for your time and effort in running the operation.

As far as the 1.16 comment, I don't know what to think about that...

Hi, would you also consider putting your music up on http://bittracks.com ?

Umm... I guess. I looked at the site. It is not immediately obvious how one would list their wares there. All I see is links to two albums for sale. How does one create a new listing?

Front Sight is inarguably one of the 'top tier' of firearms instructors on the planet. Located near Las Vegas, NV, USA. Background check required (if you are leagally able to own, there should be no problem). Their instructors are tough, thorough, and compatible (freindly) with _all_ segments of the population. Women, liberals, etc. will be as comfortable as hardened marines.

Funds can be escrowed until registration and BG check complete - assuming no foot dragging. I would expect you would enroll within 5 days of deal, and submit BG check info immediately thereafter. You should be clear within two weeks of deal. I'll cover escrow fees.

Hit me up with any questions. Class description follows:

Hi weex - I got my stuff up, but am somewhat confused over the album preview. Should it appear on the main album page? Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see it:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95234.0

I poked around the dashboard, but found no obvious means of enabling the preview.
7287  Economy / Goods / [WTS] music - RockinBloozaBoogie - charting album & singles from The Lee Thomas on: July 25, 2012, 07:47:19 AM
Howdy - this album has done well on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc. But you don't care about those, because they only deal in fiat. Now I'm bringing this charting album to the Bitcoin world, where you can buy it either in entirety, or a la carte, from CoinDL.

From The Lee Thomas Band, I give you Forty Miles Of Bad Road:

https://www.coindl.com/page/item/293

Somewhere between the geographical soundprints of Detroit, Chicago, & Nawlins, cooks a brew known as RockinBloozaBoogie. And that's exactly what you'll get here. This album has done well in previous (dollar-denominated) digital release, with regional radio action and international chart success. It spent some time on MySpace Music's Global Indie Blues Album chart - staying in the Top 30 of that chart from April 2010 - May 2011 - over a year straight, reaching as high as number two Top Mover.

Yeah, I know - blah blah blah. Bottom line - if you like rock, and you like blues, and don't mind a little jazz/funk influence, it could easily be worth a couple minutes to listen to the previews at least. I think some of you might buy it. And listen to it. Repeatedly.

Thanks for your time. Once again, the number to call is https://www.coindl.com/page/item/293. Do it now! Operators are standing by!

Have you tried .wav with .7z compression? 7z can go to very high ratios, at a mild cost of CPU time. I just tried it on a .wav sound effect I had lying around, I got 33% compression. Longer files generally get better compression.
I have not located a utility that will do 7-zip on OS X. The canonical 7-zip.exe seems to be Windows-only.
7289  Economy / Service Announcements / Further seller questions on: July 17, 2012, 10:17:44 PM
Further questions arise in setting up the offering. I couldn't find answers for the following:

1) What is the Preview File?

2) Do we not 'Manage Sub-Items' until the album .tgz archive has been unzipped on your end?
7290  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Announce] "Pay What You Want" at CoinDL - downloads marketplace, Bitcoin-only on: July 17, 2012, 09:46:00 PM
320kbps MP3 is fine if it's easier. I am familiar with Bandcamp and wanted to setup the same sort of multi-format pipeline. So far, we have a script that automates some of it (generating previews) but there are lot of details to get right so it's not clear when that will be done.

I was able to upload an archive of 320K mp3's, plus a png of the album cover. The mp3s have info in the ID3 tags:
Code:
TheLeeThomasBand-Fo...OfBadRoad.tar0.2GBFailed
    TheLeeThomasBand-Fo...OfBadRoad.tgz0.2GBUploaded: Now pending approval

As can be seen, the first upload failed - the system did not recognize .tar as a valid file type. Recreating the archive as a .tgz resulted in success.

Please let me know if anything looks amiss.

Thanks!

We are unable to increase the upload limit at this time which is lame I know but if you can provide a link (i.e. upload it somewhere else) we'll happily take it from there.

Thanks, weex. I'll see if I can set up an ftp server.

Alternatively, if you are going to compress them into 320K mp3 anyhow, I could do that myself. That would come in well under your limit. Do you distribute everything in 320K MP3, or does the customer have an option?

Clearly increasing the upload limit is going to the ultimate solution but we'll change our suggestion when we've found something better for lossless audio compression. Or feel free to suggest one...thing is, it needs to be easy for most people to get their hands on so not to exotic. Again..the upload limit....

FLAC is a great lossless audio compression format. However, it befuddles the masses. Probably need to offer MP3 if you need to offer only one. In order of priority (based upon my SWAG at market success), I'd suggest .mp3, .wav, aac, .wma, .flac.

Are you familiar with Bandcap? They take .wav as input, and output several resolutions of of .mp3, .flac, .wav, etc - all at the purchaser's discretion.
7292  Economy / Service Announcements / CoinDL - upload file size limit on: July 14, 2012, 09:52:32 PM
Hi weex -

I am trying to upload a music album to CoinDL. Using your suggested method of a tar.gz of the .wavs & a .png, I end up with a file size of 687MiB. This is larger than your upload limit. I tried uploading it anyhow, but the upload was cut off.

I would like to suggest that the upload limit be increased to the max size of a Red Book audio CD.

If it makes any difference, I think gzip is likely a poor choice for .wavs - or for a .tar of .wavs. The compression ratio was only on the order of 10% or so. I am using gzip 1.3.12 on OS X.

Well, this is odd.

I guess I took the mantra 'read lots, write little' too closely to heart. I've typically read while not even logged in. However, a cursory glance at my profile will confirm that I have been registered here for over a year.

I have what some would consider significant holdings, some locally, some in various exchanges. I lived through the TradeHill<>Dwolla conflagration (kudos the the TH team for stepping up to prompt reimbursement), and dodged a number of the other fiascoes.

I interact with local superstar BurtW in person (e.g. in meatspace) several times a week, and have for about two years now. I'm sure he'll vouch to this fact. Our day gigs coincide, as do our geographies.

Basically, I ain't a n00b, though my post count might tend to lead to the adverse conclusion.

So whaddaya think - can I get a hall pass?
