7321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did you miss Bitcoin? on: October 07, 2021, 09:05:27 PM
Why didn't most people expect Bitcoin to be as brilliant as it is today?

I guess I'm one of the folks who thought Bitcoin would be more brilliant today and has been extremely disappointed in the development the last half decade.  It was such a promising technology to change the world with so much momentum it's still carrying us to this day, even though now it's just a get rich quick tool that Wall Street is going to exploit for never-ending management fees.  I had such higher hopes and expectations.  The insane price appreciation brought the worst of the worst to our once great libertarian based community and it's now full of scammers out for a quick buck, jealous of those who built things and desperate to tear down others so they feel like they can catch up.  It's a toxic environment that I don't see how it could possibly be successful long term, but is the result of it's success.  Most of the real decentralized solutions involving game theory development are now done on alternative chains while Bitcoin is pushed as a store of value and it's users are urged not to use it.  If this is a successful approach to building a currency, everything I know about economics is wrong.
7322  Other / Meta / Re: Merit cycling club? on: October 07, 2021, 08:54:56 PM
(in before the third chipmixer signature campaign member!)

Well, it can't be an actual merit cycling club, because that would be against the bitcointalk.org rules that were set in place long ago and that would not be allowed here.

It also can't be trolling, because that would be against the no trolling rules that the administration has been tasked with enforcing and therefore would also not be allowed here.

So in short, your guess is as good as mine.  I can't think of any legitimate reason for a merit cycling club to exist, so the mystery of why it exists and what it set out to accomplish remains without so much as a possible explanation.  It does give people a talking point, which means more posts like this one, more forum views, and more campaign money flowing to those of us spouting nonsense for bits.  So I guess that makes it a good thing.  Huh
7323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: October 07, 2021, 08:49:15 PM
I like when the developers are quiet because I know the real sh@t gets done...

https://www.namecoin.org/2021/09/14/namecoin-qt-buy-names-tab.html

Sell names tab?  Cool

https://www.namecoin.org/2021/09/25/ncdns-v0.2.2-released.html

piece by piece the puzzle is coming together.

Namecoin has been underappreciated for far too long.  When you look at the statistics, it's dumbfounding why it isn't valued 100x higher.  I think it's the result of several unique market factors like merged mining causing constant dumping by pools, lack of advertising, prior performance assumed to be future performance, and lots of undeveloped potential.

I think once the market matures and the average investor in crypto ups their IQ a bit, gems like Namecoin and all the earliest NFTs will become sought after collectibles.  It was recently rated the #60 crypto coin by an independent rating team and if it were to realize that position as a market cap, it would be trading at $200 per coin.  That's likely a more fair and earned valuation, and I think it will be realized at some point.  If all the pump and dump shitcoiners only knew what they've been ignoring...
7324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it possible to just copy and paste the bitcoin code? on: October 07, 2021, 08:21:28 PM
Is it possible to just copy and paste the bitcoin code and run it as your own bitcoin/ crypto without it updating/ syncing to the current blockchain.

If this is possible would this produce the key to the genesis block? I am very curious why you'd see bitcoin spinoffs like BCH have different wallet formats than bitcoin.

Ever heard of litecoin?  It's not only possible, it's extremely easy.  It shouldn't take even a script kiddie more than a day or two to figure it out.

However, most people caught on to this half a decade ago, so don't expect too much success.  Even coblee has been taking a lot of shit lately on social media as I see people call him a scammer for the infamous dump from the ATH.

I think most people don't understand how easy it is to clone open source projects.  Otherwise, the ICO bubble of 2017 probably wouldn't have happened and 95% of altcoins would have never gotten any attention.

This is so true...  It's like the democratic party completely turned into what they hate overnight, and their subjects haven't quite caught on yet.  They've overstepped and overplayed their hand though and it's beyond obvious that democrats are hell bent on raping this country for everything it has and will not stop until everyone is a millionaire and living life as though that was the poverty line.  The sad part is, the massive amount of inflation they're going to cause while duping the poor into thinking they care about them, will only cause the very people they're trying to help to become a permanent renter class unable to own anything.  Meanwhile, the conservatives they claim to hate will become more and more wealthy just for managing to maintain ownership of assets and keep their head above water.  It's almost like the democrat leaders are the real rich people (yes, liberal politicians are much wealthier than conservative politicians) and don't care about their subjects personal well being, they only want to pawn off all society's needs on the government so they don't have to give anything back themselves or be held responsible for the peons' degrading lifestyles.

each one linked to a unique Garbage Pail Kids-ish (GPK) NFT.

I've been working on something similar to this idea.  My question is how are they linked?  Is it just that they are carrying matching numbers or is there a private key somewhere on the coin that is holding an NFT on the blockchain?  I've been waiting to see how long before I started seeing these types of things.  Very cool.  I wish you the best of luck with this project and hope that you continue to innovate interesting NFT products as the space is the next frontier of crypto and in my opinion most likely crypto tech to be adopted and actually used by the masses.

This NBA healthcare fraud story is crazy. There are some superstars who got caught up with this and I’m sure their NBA brothers will not be happy that they were pulling this scheme. Crazy that this could be needed after the multimillion dollars in earnings they’ve each had. Totally wild.

7328  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered Bitcoin mining on the Earth Orbit or on the Moon Surface? on: October 07, 2021, 11:15:23 AM
I imagine the amount of resources needed to produce those panels and then get them into space and orbiting safely or installed on the moon would far outweigh any benefits.  Maybe if we had technology to cheaply produce them on the moon it might be within the realm of possibility, but I think if we're targeting wasted energy there is lower hanging fruit than the Bitcoin network, which is already highly dependent on renewable energy.
7329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: October 07, 2021, 11:04:17 AM
Pre-season games are going on but I'm disappointed not to see the main players of big teams in those games. But I understand of course that they don't want to cause those players to get injured right before the start of the new season. For example, we had a Lakers - Nets game a few days ago. But none of the players like Lebron, Durant, Harden and Irving played in this game. It was still a high-scoring game though. I'm just fully focused on the start of the season now.
It is okay. We just have to wait until the regular season comes within the next 2 weeks. They're all reserving what they've got for that season since all of them are preparing of it.
Just be patient and it's just a few sleeps away.

It is obvious that this superstars are not going to risk getting injured in pre-season that's why they are not playing. So it's ok, at least that is the main reason, and as fans we wanted to see them going full 80++ games.

But when the regular games starts, for sure, they are going to be in for the first minute of the game, it's important to say Lakers and Nets dictate the phase already and make the teams do the catch up for them.

Yup, just 12 more days and then we can watch the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors play on TNT.  It doesn't feel like it has been very long since that happened, but nevertheless I'm glad to have the NBA back.  Steph Curry vs Lebron James never disappoints either.  Although I'm expecting the Lakers to give them a pretty bad beatdown.  I haven't been following closely enough to know when exactly Klay will be back, but hopefully soon if he's not ready in 2 weeks.

Looking at the mempool you can see that it is spiking again as Bitcoiners rush their BTC onto exchanges to take profits over $50K. Once this mempool backlog is worked through and those coins have their chance to find new owners on exchanges we can start moving upward again. Keep your eye on the mempool and get ready for the next leg up.

7331  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If Democrats want to stay in power for the next four years, don't support Israel on: October 07, 2021, 08:49:26 AM
The Democrats have no chance of staying in power. Their overreaction to covid is going to financially cripple our country for generations. Plenty of Americans will lose their jobs as a result of the mandates. Many others have been living an inconvenienced life that are tired of the restrictions and don’t want to allow themselves to be herded and needled like livestock. As long as Trump doesn’t run in the next presidential election you might as well place your bets now.
7332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Twitter can make impact in the BTC world? on: October 07, 2021, 01:01:36 AM
The biggest impact Twitter is having is with NFTs. You’re seeing them pop up constantly as profile pics and with Twitter saying that they’re going to implement Blockchain verification of NFTs for profile pictures I think the main wave of adoption is still yet to happen. It’s pretty crazy but I’ve been saying for too long that nobody is using blockchains for their transparency features. I’m stoked the NFT community has embraced it.
7333  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can BTC hit 70k$ this Christmas? on: October 06, 2021, 09:34:42 PM
If Bitcoin is at $70K by Christmas it’s because the $200K bubble popped… If the high on the year is only $70K, I will go ahead and say that I’ll be disappointed. Anything below $135K is unacceptable and anything below $200K would be a bit of a letdown.

I think as soon as we clear out the mempool and let all the profit takers work their way through the system it will be a new all time high on the way to $140K by early December.

Not investment advice. Just a man with a crystal ball.
7334  Other / Archival / Re: Hyperlink under the avatar on: October 06, 2021, 09:09:39 PM
I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed.

Recently, I began to wonder why not make a hyperlink under the avatar? Everyone has the option to insert a hyperlink in their signature or profile, so why not do something similar under the avatar as well?

This could be a hyperlink for internal forum projects. After all, many users who wear an advertising signature have their own projects. This hyperlink under the avatar could be used to advertise your project (the link will lead to an ANN topic), a third-party thread that the user supports most often, an event on the forum, be it an auction, a drawing of a collectible, a lottery, a giveaway, or the same provision of some services (again with a link to the ANN topic).

All this can be implemented at the moment in the profile, in the Website tab, but it will look much more effective under the avatar.

I wonder if there is such a possibility to implement such a hyperlink? Or maybe theymos have already commented on a similar request? It would be interesting to get acquainted. Thanks.

I like this idea as a replacement for signatures.  I'm not sure about in addition to...  One can only have so much advertising constantly bombarding them.  As a replacement though, I think it's a great idea.  Besides removing the endless duplicated signatures we've all either hidden or grown accustomed to ignoring, it would also be a step towards bringing advertising in-house, as I believe it would be easier for the forum to manage user displayed advertisements with this setup.  It would also be a boon to bitcointalk forum projects, which is badly needed.
7335  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: October 06, 2021, 07:22:39 PM
I think the NBA will be slowly going back to powering up the inside players like Jokic and Giannis to balance the game.
I would love to see more post-ups too because it is getting more and more extinct in the NBA as shown in this article

Ahhh...  The Stephen Curry effect...  I blame analytics but I guess all you can really do is be mad that shooters have gotten so much better that it makes sense to shoot from half court now as opposed to running an offensive play to try and get an open midrange jumper.  People always say how Michael Jordan would score 60+ per game in today's NBA, but I sort of think the opposite.  His mid-range fadeaway move (his bread and butter) would be discouraged by coaches today.  He'd like be forced to shoot more 3 pointers and would have the lane completely closed off so he couldn't drive.  I think you'd see his fg% drop as a result, and with that his usage rate.

Really makes me appreciate Shaquille O'Neal and be glad I had the opportunity to see him play in person.
7336  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: World's Most Valuable Coin - the $48 Million Gold 1,000 Bitcoin Gold Cas on: October 06, 2021, 07:03:18 PM
Now TMZ is running the story. It's getting a lot of press.

https://www.tmz.com/2021/10/06/bitcoin-gold-cas-crypto-million/

What do you think a peeled 1000 cas is worth now?

Hell with a peeled one...  I hope this brings up the value of the unpeeled and never loaded ones.   Grin

It is amazing how much press this is getting.  I never would have thought TMZ would be carrying a story about Casascius coins...  It looks like the long running drought in Casascius values may be coming to an end?  Probably a bit premature, but it definitely seems like we're approaching the point where more people will want these coins than the supply can accommodate.
7337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of ETF filings this year in the US(NEW ETF ADDED) on: October 06, 2021, 06:17:10 PM
SEC delays again the result of 4 Bitcoin ETF for another 60 days. List of the following ETF below:

  • Kryptoin Bitcoin ETF
  • WisdomTree Bitcoin Trust
  • Valkyrie XBTO Bitcoin Futures Fund
  • Global X Bitcoin Trust

Maybe this is the reason why Bitcoin is pumping hard. Another room for possible hype before the result of approval on ETF application. Whales well played on this part.

Source: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sec-stalls-again-four-bitcoin-194923376.html

That’s a bit of a shame but the timing better matches up with the expected peak of Bitcoin this cycle anyway. Before this news I expected we’d see an ETF approval in the next two weeks. Now it’s looking like we’ll be waiting until the end of November instead. In any event, it should be a good Christmas this year.
7338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LAST CALL for voting MTGOX rehabilitation plan: deadline on October 8th 2021 on: October 06, 2021, 05:47:40 PM
I voted a few months ago. It seems like we’ll probably get back about 20% of our BTC just in time to miss the bull market. I think April of 2022 is probably the best case scenario for a return of funds, but a year after that is more likely. I know personally I’ll be glad to have this lawsuit wrapped up so I don’t have any outstanding legal entanglements.
7339  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to maintain your good health? on: October 06, 2021, 03:55:11 AM
If you implement these few instructions in your life then you will be fit and healthy:
1. Have Breakfast
2. Drink Plenty of Water
3. Take an Exercise Break
4. Go Offline and sleep on time
5. Learn Something New(New skills help keep your brain healthy)
6. Don't Smoke
7. Train Your Muscles

I think # 3 & #7 are the same thing.  I also would add getting some sunlight into the mix.  Some sort of social interaction is never a bad idea either.  Even if it's just a phone call or quick Facetime with someone you are friends with (not work stuff).  A positive attitude and a daily dose of helping someone else can do wonders for one's attitude as well.  Most importantly though is just to make an effort.  If you don't take that first step towards being a healthier person, you never will be.
7340  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: October 06, 2021, 03:47:32 AM
Fan favorite (at least when he was on the Lakers) Alex Caruso put up a double double off the bench for the Bulls in his first time out with 10 points and 10 assists.  I think the Bulls got themselves a good deal on Caruso as the Lakers decided to draft a younger version of him.

With just 2 weeks to go until opening night for the NBA, it feels like we haven't gotten to see much of the players.  I guess because we're still trying to make up time from the whole Covid bubble thing...
