7341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I killed a GPU can you help me fix on: April 10, 2022, 05:44:34 PM
Lesson learned the hard way, I killed one GPU today by mistake, I was supposed to use riser the right way but I turned it the other way, I was not in my right state of mind because of what happened at home( family issue ) so now the GPU seems dead, no display and fan is just running slow.

did it arc, spark, shut the rig down?

it may still mine on a rig with a few cards.

did you toss the riser?

if you are lucky the riser took the hit not the gpu.

try a different riser.

i did something like you did and killed a mobo board  slot but the gpu worked in other slots.
7342  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: MicroBT announced the new M50 series of WhatsMiner on: April 10, 2022, 12:32:19 PM
Whatsminer M30S++ 112 TH/s   31 J/T  3268 W
WhatsMiner M50        114 TH/s   29 J/T  3306 W
https://ibmm.ru/katalog/microbt/whatsminer-m30s/whatsminer_m30s_112
Whatsminer M30S++ looks better than the newer model in my opinion.

You know they try to squeeze a lot out of the psu's both of them would be better off at 2900 watts not 3268 or 3306 watts.

All the newer gear from bitmain cannon and microbe have Oem psu's that you have to use or the gear won't work and all the psu's push to the limit. PSu failure is common and getting replacement psu's is difficult.

Also a lot of the stock firmware does not allow for simple under clocking.

Nothing new but you would think that one of these companies would push a firmware that allows for 5 speeds or better. Much like braiins or vnish do.

As for the m50 vs the m30s++ it is  bottom of the line new compared to top of the line  old.

So not that fair to compare the m30s++ to the m50

the m50s is 126 at 26 watts. and that is pretty good compared to the m30s++ 112 and 31 watts

I have had most of my microbit  gear fail  not a real fan of them.

But the water block solution they have is a rack holding 15 servers and a cooling radiator. the unit will do 90 to 150 kwatts

the water block solution from bitmain is a container holding 200 units it will do 1 megawatt

I could swing the microbt  at 150 kwatts maybe 2 of them but the bitmain need more power than I have 1 megawatt is more than the 800kwatts I have at the new site.

My guess is the bitmain gear (water block) might be more durable. I just wish it was in a smaller sized cooling setup maybe a 250kwatt sized complete system with 40 s19xp water units
7343  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Assuming that Government wake's up and crack down mining across the Globe. on: April 09, 2022, 11:52:36 PM
That means if the governments like I read above a scenario tha stop meaning forever or put out countries of big mining farms the difficult re-adjusting can take in a worse scenario months as not weeks. All those are scenarios, even if it happens developers can solve it, you should not worry.
Also make your thoughts the affect of such of scenarios can be, no newly coins mint, no transactions confirmations, a frozen blockchain. But don’t worry.

If mining tops completely there will be no adjustment, none whatsoever without a single miner out there mining there won't be a new block and obviously, no way to adjust the difficulty, of course, that's impossible but in such a scenario that's what's going to happen, a frozen chain with no blocks no confirmation no way to move coins.

Let me add that Bitcoin in a worsted scenario can work without internet, that’s say don’t worry.  Wink

In the worst-case scenario we could make bitcoin work by manually solving hashes and sending them between mining farms and by carrier pigeons, that doesn't mean it's feasible nor that it will be the same.
Sorry I can’t find any doses of humour regarding the manual solving hashes and carrier pigeons.
As I said Bitcoin can works without internet(TCP). The chain will be frozen due to high difficulty this can be solved with a 1 line of code.

but no internet means no energy conversion.  The whole reason bitcoin has value is energy conversion into coins.

and now the heat the miners make can be used for good.

below is a 4ph server water cooled setup that could be used to heat 2 enclosed olympic sized swimming pools.

this is how you convert energy to wealth.

the op is correct if the world's governments ban mining they will fuc all pow coins up.

but it the world's government's launch enough nukes everything fucks up.

So basically the hope is saner and cooler heads prevail.

Solar energy is practical for 40 lat north down to 40 lat south. mining coins could be the incentive to build more solar.

And not what is the governments shut down all mining

How about what if the world's govrement's make all pow coins mined via solar arrays non taxable.

I am tired of thread after thread of what is we fuck ourselves.

How about what if we help our selves?

7345  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How long Putin can continue this nonsense war?! on: April 09, 2022, 07:01:23 PM

Anyway, Putin isn't going to step down from his presidency, he won't stop till he gets what he wants, or lose everything in the process. It's surprising that an army like Russia's is having such a hard time against Ukraine, they're supposedly a superpower.
Why do we all put the whole blame on Putin. We must Firstly understand why Putin is going into war against their neighbor Ukraine. Ukraine are building strong relationship with US, they also wants to be part of NATO. Which Russia consider to be a dangerous step, because they don't trust the US. Putin thinks he is probably protecting his country. Although, Ukraine is an independent country, and they have the right to join NATO.  Putin just want the US to stay far from Ukraine, and the war won't end until his had achieved that.

If Putin ends the war will end in about 2 more days. Putin is 69 so each day he has about a 1 in 4000 chance of dying.

So the war will last for at least 60 days (a guess) so a 60 in 4000 chance is about 1 in 66 chance to war ends simply because he died.

Not because he is assassinated but because he is ham and humans die and at the age of 69 the math is as above.

But if he was to stay alive longer say 2 or more  years Russia will eventually win the war and the world will be in two camps west vs east same as it ever was. Just like it was when I was a kid and Khurschev said he would bury USA

Meanwhile lots of oil prices at top dollar or ruble.

7347  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which anime did you watch first? on: April 09, 2022, 05:54:16 PM
Much to my shame, I have only seen the Netflix live action version of that show. Even though I went into it completely unbiased by watching the original, I found that show to be rather mediocre at best. I think I really need to check out the original, I've only heard good things about it, including by you now.

Hell I am an old guy (65) but I can tell you the cartoon was far better than the live action.

"ghost in the shell" may have been the first that I watched.

Not sure if the Miasaki movies count

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_works_by_Hayao_Miyazaki

but they are really good to see.
7348  Other / Meta / Re: The 200 with most earned merit. on: April 09, 2022, 02:59:47 PM
Since I signed up in the forum, and started to earn merit, I had been steadily climbing positions in terms of earned merit, but lately I see that I have a hard time advancing, being around the 200th position, despite the fact that today I earn merit faster than ever, almost twice as many merits as activity, which I think is not bad at all.

I wonder if you have noticed anything similar, although I suppose that not in all cases people will have noticed that around the 200th position. I am sure that n0nce, for example, did not notice anything at that position and will certainly do so later, when he gets to the first 25 or so. But his is an exceptional case, which we should not consider the norm.

I would also like to clarify that those in the top 10 of most earned merit (or those in the top 25 if you want) I would not call them just quality posters, I don't know exactly what I would call them, but it would have to be something else, like exceptional posters or something like that.

I don't know if we could consider that there are about 200 (or 150 or 250) high quality posters in the forum. Not only because of my perception, which could be subjective, but also taking into account the following:

There are 54 participants in the CM campaign, 25 in the Best Change campaign and 22 in the [banned mixer] campaign. Maybe someone may have a member of these campaigns in mind who does not consider a quality poster, but the vast majority of them are. That would make about 100 members and we have to take into account that there are people who write with quality who are not part of those campaigns, either because they are part of other campaigns or because they don't wear a paid signature.

I believe that taking this into account, we would get roughly a minimum of 150 high quality posters, which coincides with my perception.

What do you think about it?

you are over 1000 merit which will slow you getting merits since you no longer need merits.

I have given you a few when you were under 1000 to help you rise in rank as I think you are good for the forum. But once you get past 1000 two things happen one you have enough to make legend and you look as if you may be an older poster with very few new merits earned. Hang in there keep posting your good content and when you get to 1500 or more merits you may see faster merits earned .
7349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 3090Ti or 3090 on: April 09, 2022, 03:20:42 AM
3090ti released half year before 40xx release date.

Remember when 2080ti'ers got 3070'd ??..well it is nice to own one but don't go full blast on those 3090ti's

In crypto "timing" is a huge factor.. 3090's x3 the 1080ti's and ROI'd..and that is a very good thing.

3090ti x3 the 1080ti too, imagine if the 4090 x4 or x5 the 1080ti.

1080ti~2080ti~3070

3090 vs 3090ti is like 1080ti vs 2080ti ...what if the 4070 will be more energy efficient version of 3090/3090ti in 6 months.

40xx series will come with gddr7, that's the signal...always follow vram memory upgrades  Wink

the 3090ti is 7 or 8 % better then the 3090.

and it is priced just about the same.

I have 17 or 18 3090 cards and 2 3090ti cards. the 3090ti are better.

the 1080ti and the 2080ti had a large price jump. like 700 to 1100 usd

and hash was only 50 to 55

so the 3090ti is decent enough.

of course if we go pos in July all cards go in the shitter. Since mining ⛏ with gpus will take a huge hit.
7350  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: bad time or good time to buy asic miner on: April 08, 2022, 11:24:11 PM
so a bit of an update on my situation.  I was checking facebook marketplace and I found someone selling 2 x M31S+ and  2 x Goldshell Hs5 units for $1500 each.  I am NOT joking and totally serious.  He did not know what he had.  Someone owed him money and offered these.  he took them and then tried to sell them.  I saw them and pounced.

Did I win the lottery?  First of all I cant find any of these units anywhere unless it is from ebay, etc for $8k++++

Remember I am entirely new to Asic mining (was a GOU miner for years).  These are my first units.  Did I get a deal?

if they work simply sell them at 2x what you paid.

keep ½ the cash and put the other ½ into coins.

this means 1500 in cash becomes 1500 and 1500 in coins.

so the coins would be free.
7351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's up with founders editing graphics cards on: April 08, 2022, 10:12:28 PM
I'll post here because I always want to buy a founders edition but I never had the chance to buy one
I don't live in US or Europe, so it's almost impossible to get a founders edition in my country, the only people I see with one are reviewers on Youtube who get with Nvidia and some people who bought in a trip to US.
I think the best place to buy is BestBuy US, but again, it's hard, and almost impossible in 2020 - 2021 due to scarcity

Take a look here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/402726/how-to-get-a-founders-edition/

I'll be watching this thread to see tips from US miners
hey @philipma1957  Cheesy

You can not get them.

The closest I got were some hp 3070 cards that were an oem mod of the FE cards.

Best Buy sold them out from under me endlessly.

and nvidia.com never had them in stock

https://store.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/store/?page=1&limit=9&locale=en-us&gpu=RTX%203090%20Ti

https://store.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/store/?page=1&limit=9&locale=en-us&category=DESKTOP,GPU&gpu=RTX%203080

the oem slightly modded 3070 and 3060ti very close to the FE models that I got in dell and hp rigs were all non-lhr

They are all about a year or 15 months old they all work and have been paid off.

I think I got 3x 3060ti and 3x 3070
7352  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: April 08, 2022, 04:23:50 PM
So right now but not available to order
M50    114TH/s  for 8.8k, 29 J/T
M50S  126TH/s for 11k, 26 J/T
vs
19pro at 29J/T does 110TH/s for 9.5K

So right now microbt would be winning the war unless we count in the 19XP.

Oh, and they are also going to a hydro,
Quote
The company has introduced the next generation of hydro cooling mining hardware called WhatsMiner M53 that boasts 240 TH/s of computing power at 29 J/TH of power efficiency.

I wonder, are those things really going to sell that good? At 5.5KW that ain't home mining anymore and for industrial usage you could go straight for immersion cooling at that budget. Missing something?

Nice speed bump!

If you look at that video the water cooled are designed to heat exchange.

So pools and greenhouses also heating office buildings. Would be the targets .

We have a large ymca with 2 olympic sized pools. you could heat both of them using the system
the setup in the photo has

15 rigs at 6 to 10 kilowatts that is 90 to 150 kilowatts about 300 to 500 btus of heat

an pair of  indoor pools  would be just about perfectly  heated with it.

now a 400k btu furnace would burn a lot of fuel  and pollute.

while the setup in the photo could be solar power on the roof covering the pools.

So pretty much a perfect solution for cheaper mining  and saving the planet.

cost for solar = ? 2 million
cost for the mining setup = ? under 600k

you get 15 x 225th = 3.375 ph setup

2 pool heated for free for 20-30 years

So a viable project that pays better than burning fuel to heat the pools.

Of course initial startup costs are higher. Does it help the guy that wants a 2k or 1k water cooled miner nope.
7353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig burning smell! on: April 08, 2022, 03:19:44 PM
The first psu arrived and i spent some hours to assemble everything with only 5 gpus that work as ever, luckily.
Tomorrow the second psu will arrive and i will install the other 5 gpus.
Now i want to know approximately the power consumption of all the system in addition to the gpus, so the mobo, the risers, the ssd, the ram ecc..
So i can have an idea about the total power drain of my rig other than all the 10 gpus.
I took 2 of these:
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B09JP7QPSV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think these psus are perfect and now i have been able to arrange all the cables neatly and not tangled between the gpus.
I only have a doubt about the risers connections, because i used 3 molex connectors located along a single cable, but I have heard that it is better not to go beyond the two cable connectors per single cable.
Right?
However it's confusing because i found in the psu package, 2 molex cable with 4 connectors per cable.
Thanks again!

no no no no no no.

a molex can only do 1 riser safely
2 risers are a risk
3 riser = meltdown

Let me look at that psu a bit more closely

and post a photo of your risers

here is your psu

I got some new RTX A2000 after seeing a build with these cards at my friend's but mine are all blower style GPU like my friends yet the rig shuts down on its own after a few hours of mining, what could cause this?.

your mobo pcie slots may not provide enough power.

or do you use all risers. if you use all risers how are you sending the power to the slots.

sata,molex,six pin vga.

remember the a2000 is fully power by the slot and the slot alone

about 65-75 watts per slot.

so risers with six pin pcie jacks are most likely the only way to run them.

unless you have a minerdude rig which is riser free but allows up to eight pcie cables to plug into the mobo.
7358  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 08, 2022, 12:43:31 AM
...

Today I was at the Bitcoin 2022 conference!   Smiley

I'll summarize some of my experiences, I just got home.  I woke up early and drove over since I had no idea how the parking situation (etc.) would be.  At 7:15 in the morning, the parking garage across the street from the MB Convention Center was mostly vacant (they do have lots of conferences and conventions there).  Doors opened at 8:00 AM, and the lines moved pretty quickly.  They gave each of us a Swag Bag, one item in there (discussed below, second item) turned out to be a really nice gift.

  • I was mostly interested in hardware wallets, I picked up a BitBox02 (BTC Only Edition) and a Trezor Model T (Trezor tossed in a t-shirt).  I went ahead and bought them there so I would not appear on any HACKED mailing lists...
  • In the swag bag, it turned out that there was a FREE Arculus hardware wallet, although I did not note that at first.  When I dropped by their booth, they told me that yes, it was free for the first 25,000 who had registered for the show.  So, lucky me.  I asked them about one doubt I had (3FA), as I have next-to-no fingerprints (which amused TSA to no end when I applied for "Trusted Traveler" airline status), and they told me that in Settings facial picture and fingerprints can be turned off.
  • I also went by BitPay's booth to ask them some questions.  They told me about their rollout of Lightning, but (maybe I didn't understand correctly) that it would be months to a year or so before it was ready for use.  BitPay kindly gave me a 1 oz silver coin!  It has the BTC logo and all, says .999 silver and in small writing along the rim mentions BitPay.  I signed on with BitPay about Nov 2020 as they had just released a debit card which allowed me to sell some BTC should I want (but I joined Gemini in Jan 2021 to be able to sell moar).  Hey!  That silver coin is worth a bit over $24, so I think that was pretty decent of them...
  • There were a LOT of financial this-and-that companies, which didn't interest me as I am not involved with any institutions, but there is a lot of activity in those sectors
  • There were also a lot of mining-related companies including mining machines, Bitmain's new high-powered miners, also Bitmain has their own new technology using a [different] kind of cooling systems (not immersion) that allows 210 or so miners into their 20' container next to a similar sized cooling tower...
  • I did not get a chance to go see any speakers, as I only had today, tomorrow we are traveling.  Nor did I catch any of the "Announcements" so I don't know at the moment if anything important was, well, announced.  Trezor has some kind of announcement tomorrow (maybe their upcoming chip?), but their man at their booth did not know what the announcement would be, or perhaps wouldn't say...
  • Over at Bobby Lee's Ballet booth, they gave me a free book by him (The Promise of Bitcoin) which he graciously autographed for me, I believe Saifedean Ammous was signing his book as well, but the line was very long and I didn't have all that much time.
  • I also visited Wasabi Wallet's booth, actually that was my first stop.  The man (not nopara73) gave me some of their rationale re their decision not to accept "certain" UTXOs in their CoinJoin service.  It sounded plausible, in that it looks like it will be for a very limited number of cases (announced thefts of BTC and so on).  Plausible, I did not feel like grilling him.

Miami is just starting get warm in early April.  It's probably worthwhile for many HODLers to find their way to one of these conferences (tickets are expensive, but there was a $300 discount for payment by BTC).  They do have parties (and loud music outside) for all you young 'uns.

I missed last year's show, but I had gone to a couple of BTC shows in Miami a few years ago.  As you would expect, it's a much larger deal now.  For those employed in BTC-related jobs, it's a must going.

yeah I would say 150 is good. not 200 and certainly not 300

I have seen 6600 new cards at 399 and lower they would be better.

heck I would sell him 5500xt at 250 he would be better off.

this ebay seller has 5500xt at 309
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275257442823?

I could sell some at 250 if the buyer was USA based.
