we have a dusted bag full of these somewhere around here that can help.  Tongue
We're going to need a childboard in Reputation for all the Sats Abuse reports.

Ideally there'd be a market
Ideally, testnet coins can easily be mined in small amounts at low cost.

Quote
sell batches of 5,10,20,100,1000 for a fee
Hoarding them like this is what leads to high mining difficulty. Paying for testnet coins means contributing to the problem.
7364  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 04:57:56 PM
if an LN address is present
You mean like a LNURL?

Yeah I know but I would have thought that "someone wants to give you money with no strings attached" could be an exception (I mean who doesn't want money?). Perhaps not though.
I remember the case where I high ranking veteran user got (temp) banned for sending users a dust amount of altcoin. With LN, it can still be a dust amount, and if someone reports it, the bot might get banned.

This looks very nice! Theymos, if you're reading this: I want this! Also, I'd like to be a Sats Source!
7365  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM EXCHANGE MONITOR: BestChange on: July 06, 2022, 04:45:13 PM
The maximal amount of a “fine” accepted in OTC-segment and by us is not more than 10 percent of the transaction.
Lol. So you're okay with it.

Quote
In this specific case a blatant violation of the exchanger’s rules happened, the user had been informed but deliberately send a risky operation and refused to pass KYC-procedure necessary by the conditions of this service.
You can't seriously expect someone to send KYC-documents to an anonymous exchange with just an email address, right?

Quote
The very practice of fine although being very unpopular among users, often has real grounds for its existence. This is due to the increased risks of blocking part of the receipts or even the entire exchange service account in the custodial wallet they use. Thus, they try to reduce their losses from potential sanctions for such transfers in the future.
All this is caused by using a third-party for deposits, without sharing that information.

Quote
AML laws and regulations differ around the world, and neither you nor OpenChange have been forthcoming about what jurisdiction they are based in, which third party payment processor they are using, and which jurisdiction that third party is based in. I've got to say though, I'm not aware of any jurisdiction which says "If you think money is illicit, keep 10% for yourself."
For a general user, it does not matter in what country this or that exchanger is registered.
Are they even registered? If so, why doesn't their website show it?

Quote
The aspects you describe are written in the rules of exchange, you either agree with them and finish the transaction, or refuse and leave the website with unacceptable for you conditions. There is nothing extraordinary in the service conditions of the exchanger. We make sure that various conditions and rules do not go beyond the boundaries of reasonable and legal.
Where I live, stealing 10% from a customer is not legal. Period. Terms and Conditions are not above the law. It's also not reasonable under any circumstances, and basing it on unproven accusations like "100% stolen" is just plain BS.

Quote
In the context of the current generally accepted norms, we do not see anything reprehensible and illegal in the actions of OpenChange, so the question of their exclusion has not yet been raised.
I've seen reputations on Bitcointalk destroyed for less.

Quote
And the questions of whether this or that practice is ethical, are very subjective. However, we don’t exclude the possibility of their removal, if the community (and not several people on bitcointalk) will decide that this practice in this context is incorrect
How about a questionaire on your website:
Q. Do you think it is acceptable for an exchange to steal 10% of your deposit based on unproven criminal accusations?
A. Yes/No.

Quote
I will probably go first and leave a red tag unless there is a full refund within 48 hours.
What, according to you, has our service done to deserve the “red tag”?
I can't speak for icopress, but only for myself: I don't think you deserve negative feedback. "Negative - You think that trading with this person is high-risk." doesn't apply.
However, a Newbie Flag seems to describe the risk very well: "Due to various concrete red flags, I believe that anyone dealing with this user has a high risk of losing money.".

Quote
the user agreed with the exchange rules
You keep saying an anonymous website gets to set rules based on legislation somewhere on the planet. If OP wanted to sue them, where does he have to go?

Quote
“all they do is stealing money." This one-sided position is very biased and condones "consumer terrorism"
If confiscating funds is warranted, this is how you handle it:
I'd like to stop this right here and make clear that this is not a matter of money but rather a matter of principle. I'm happy to donate at minimum the funds involved in this claim to a charity of the community's choosing. The trust of this community is not something we take for granted and is why we elected to post here to further explain this unusual situation.

of course Best_Change must be responsible for what partners like (OpenChange) do, to their users.
I partially disagree: if an exchanger suddenly pulls an exit scam, I wouldn't blame BestChange for that. But if BestChange keeps recommending them after the fact, they deserve to be blamed.
7366  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 01:21:27 PM
I like the idea of tipping but it's tangential to the purpose of this extension so I think it would make more sense as a separate extension/userscript/etc.
How about a small link/icon in the existing extension, to a third party website that processes the tipping?

Quote
I wonder if it would be against forum rules to automatically send a PM if the recipient is not registered/declared/etc (whatever that entails) as being able to receive payments ("hey someone wants to send you money").
It's unsolicited:
29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.
7367  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 06, 2022, 10:20:38 AM
Imho fungible means that no matter how hard you try, you cannot distinguish one BTC from another BTC.
I don't think that definition is correct. Dollar bills are fungible, but you don't have to try very hard to distinguish one from another. They even have serial numbers for that.

Quote
Somehow I feel that you want to convince me about something. Somehow I feel that you see my post as an attack against Bitcoin. But what I've done was only to state the reality.
Investopedia gives this definition:
Quote
What Is Fungibility?

Fungibility is the ability of a good or asset to be interchanged with other individual goods or assets of the same type. Fungible assets simplify the exchange and trade processes, as fungibility implies equal value between the assets.

It continues with some examples:
Quote
Fungibility vs. Non-Fungibility

Another example of a fungible asset is money. If Person A lends Person B a $50 bill, it does not matter to Person A if he is repaid with a different $50 bill, as it is mutually substitutable. In the same sense, Person A can be repaid with two $20 bills and one $10 bill and still be satisfied, since the total equals $50.

Conversely, as an example of non-fungibility, if Person A lends Person B his car, it is not acceptable for Person B to return a different car, even if it is the same make and model as the original car lent by Person A. Cars are not fungible with respect to ownership, but the gasoline that powers the cars is fungible. Assets like diamonds, land, or baseball cards are not fungible because each unit has unique qualities that add or subtract value.
By this definition, I'd say Bitcoin is fungible. Nobody on the Lending board expects the same Bitcoin to be returned, just like it would be with dollar bills, gasoline or corn. The fact that you can see a different (on the blockchain) doesn't matter (unlike when someone returns a different car).

I would love to see everybody act like 1BTC=1BTC. But as I said, Bitcoin, by design, allows people make certain decisions. And some companies do that. And I don't see any massive boycott against them (although they'd deserve it).
And I'm advocating to change that Tongue There's no need to choose for one Bitcoin to be different than another. I fear that would be the only thing that could end Bitcoin, because people stop trusting money that can be "tainted".

Quote
Maybe we, as community, should start boycotting the services who don't go by 1BTC=1BTC. Because unless it starts hurting their business, they may do that more and more, to stay on the safe side, just in case.
Does that mean I succeeded in trying to convince you? Cheesy Let's do it! To improve my earlier quote:
Bitcoin is only fungible as long as people act like it is.

7369  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 06, 2022, 09:10:12 AM
We have to stop fooling ourselves, Bitcoin, by design, is not fungible. Some already use this, some will do. Sadly, against us.
Bitcoin is fungible as long as people act like it is. If you treat Bitcoin as if it's not fungible, you risk that the payment you receive today becomes worthless tomorrow when you find out the previous owner had stolen it. Treating Bitcoin as if it's not fungible seems to be the most successful attack on Bitcoin so far.
1BTC=1BTC. The end.
7370  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 06, 2022, 08:29:40 AM
I'll post my (mildly sarcastic) response to the CEO's answers here instead of in Wasabi's thread:

Quote from: answers are 100% coming from the decision maker
We do not care who you are and what you do with your bitcoins! We don't want to know. Unfortunately, some people do collect data, attach it to bitcoin addresses and make decisions based on that information. The company is getting in trouble and harassed because apparently some of the users of our coordinator are so-called “criminals”, according to the people keeping up these databases.

We are not saying that the database is correct, as we do not agree with most of the classifications
So you're telling me someone harassed the company until you paid them for data that you don't want and may not even be correct? Isn't that extortion?

Quote
Quote from: answers are 100% coming from the decision maker
we want to be able to see the same information that apparently others already have. We don’t want to do any chain surveillance ourselves, so we would rather just buy that information from others.
It sounds to me like someone created a business of pointing fingers and now forces people to buy their idea. Just don't do it. If nobody would do it, nobody else would be "forced to join".

Quote
Quote from: answers are 100% coming from the decision maker
If you knew a pedophile/murderer was eating at your restaurant, would you serve him?
If I told you to give me 20 bucks, so I can tell you which one of your customers is a murderer without any evidence, would you pay me? I've done the same to other restaurants in your area, so you should join the mob mentality, right?
7371  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 07:24:26 AM
Being an extension, it could open the LN address using the default wallet app, but it requiresthat it support some kind of lightning:// protocol.
Some sort of custodial thing could work, but I doubt BPIP wants to do that. Just like theymos doesn't want to hold users funds for the same reason.

I'd like it though: Tipping micropayments on Bitcointalk.
7372  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is it trust system abuse to increase Trust Score by Dabs? on: July 05, 2022, 05:29:57 PM
It's been a while since we've had an update to that list, but with the current monthly fluctuations of DT1, it would probably become more work than it's worth.
Since I made that list, the Trust system was changed and theymos added pagination. That's more than I'm willing to update for something that was only half serious from the start.

The solution to DT-selfscratching: [POLL] DT2 Status; how many net inclusions should it take?
7373  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is it trust system abuse to increase Trust Score by Dabs? on: July 05, 2022, 04:28:19 PM
Do you think this is an abuse to increase the trust score?
See Trust Selfscratchers: who scratched his own back the most? Smiley
Dabs is the most notable notable user on that list, and he keeps bouncing from about 7 to 40 positive feedbacks depending on whether or not he's on DT1.
There are more users who include almost anyone who left them positive feedback. I don't think that's the best way to use the Trust system.

The staff member who created this page on behalf of Aventus is no longer in their employ.
You can try following the directions at Recovering hacked/lost accounts, but it sounds like you made mistakes with your employment contract.

We either need permission to delete the page or to to update the page.
I highly doubt that's going to happen if you can't prove ownership of the account. Bitcointalk is all about freedom, not about censorship. And I've never seen someone get edit privileges for someone else's topic.

It's been a while since I've seen the "solution to disrupt the market" BS. Instead of throwing money at ICO scams, people now throw their money at Defi scams. Same scam, different name.

I got some blank pages that I needed to refresh several times before getting the normal display.
The blank page problem is mentioned on this link:
On Kraken website I found a page for Browser troubleshooting, so it may help checking that out also:
https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001200183-Browser-troubleshooting
But that's not the problem I'm having.

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

What is acceptable then? Confiscate the coin?
This is a very controversial story because it is based on ideological differences. In a human way, we do not see anything wrong with crypto-anarchism and all its tools, but as an organization we are obliged to adhere to generally accepted norms. And in the case of exchanging cryptocurrency for fiat currencies, it loses most of its decentralized advantages.
Allow me to focus on this case: the user wanted to exchange Bitcoin for Monero, and the exchange confiscated 10% of his funds. This has nothing to do with fiat currencies, it's clearly not AML and I bet there are no authorities involved. @Best_Change: Is confiscating 10% acceptable to you? And if so: based on which laws in which country?
7379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core correct way to backup? on: July 05, 2022, 07:16:15 AM
I would love to just be able to store my holy wallet.dat file away for many years and be able to re-gain access to my wallet using this file, primarily through other wallets too if Bitcoin Core wallet seizes to exist by then.
For long-term storage, you may want to consider creating a cold wallet: install Bitcoin Core on a fresh system that hasn't touched the internet, create your wallet, set a password, create several backups of your wallet.dat (on storage devices from different brands), and thoroughly wipe and reinstall your computer before it goes online. Or just keep a spare laptop dedicated to your offline Bitcoin Core, so you can easily get new deposit addresses in the future.
