Yeah, US1 and VarDiff should be fine, US2 and US3 are having some trouble... well the servers are fine, but the network is having trouble.  I have a trouble ticket open with the DC... it's like only certain ports are being blocked, so it might be a DDoS either with the pool as a target or someone else and the DC has put in some strange filtering... I'll know more soon.

US3 just started working for me again.

Why do people DDoS a mining pool? Inaba does not have controversal politics from what I have seen.

extortion?

743  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox sux - chat logs pasted on: September 15, 2012, 05:41:21 AM

Yes.  Can anyone name a company that asks for more of your personal info in response to being hacked and already leaking some of your info?

All of them? Bank of America certainly would do this.

I would actually expect them to. I would expect bank of america to ask me to visit a local branch, bring at least two forms of ID and give a thumbprint before releasing my funds to someone who could be impersonating me using the leaked information.

I'm totally not sticking up for MTGox. I use CampBX.

744  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trendon Shavers - Family Contact made on: September 15, 2012, 05:31:16 AM

The court date is in November and it's a civil case.  There is no "prosecution" because it's not a criminal matter.

I realize y'all are taking this very seriously but I can't resist the urge to request that Judge Judy be requested to precede over this trial. She handles cases in Texas.

For the publicity.

and the lolz.

745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins on a Raspberry Pi on: September 15, 2012, 03:00:14 AM
How is that possible wouldn't the heat melt the plastic legos on to the board? There are no heat sinks or fans at all

It's a learning tool. They're probably not running it much except to demonstrate how a super computer works.

Plus, raspberry pis don't get too hot. It's just a wee one.

747  Economy / Scam Accusations / The eBay Scammer List on: September 15, 2012, 01:36:55 AM
eBay is a pretty dangerous place to buy or sell bitcoins. It's especially dangerous for sellers. In an effort to help protect buyers and sellers I'm starting a list of eBay scammers. Please post your additions to the list. Scammed party may remain anonymous. Scammers may not.

The primary intention is to protect people but there is also a secondary intention, to give butthurt buyers and sellers an opportunity to make it right. Sometimes, shit happens. It's never too late to make it right.

Digital delivery of coins on eBay is a sure way to get scammed often. If you're selling on eBay switch to selling paper currency. You can ship them media mail for about $2.70 with DCN using the PayPal shipping interface. Be sure to only ship to verified addresses. Never let a new buyer talk you into digital delivery. Selling smaller amounts is safer. Do your best not to be the low hanging fruit that scammers seek out. Your coins will sell no matter what ridiculous fees your charging (Trust me on that).

Here is a site which can help you print paper bitcoins. He makes the source available, I suggest you download it, edit it, and run it locally. http://print.printcoins.com/ check out the "print your own" link. Be sure to kick the guy some coin.

Here is my attempt at my Ron Burgundy avatar. Not bad, better than my last one!

Great job Smiley
749  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: You've got PayPal? I'll sell you Bitcoins. on: September 13, 2012, 10:05:29 PM
Just beware their seller protection isn't bullet proof.

"Mr. PayPal LoweryCBS mailed me an empty box".
or
"Mr. PayPal the item LoweryCBS mailed me was materially different than as described I would like to return it <after transfering the funds>".

I started selling coins on eBay about a year ago. I got scammed 3 times in my first 10 coins sold and almost gave up.

Once I started selling paper coins to buyers that I had not developed a relationship with, I have not been scammed at all.

I have had several scam attempts but they always "go away" once they realize I'm not going to deliver any other way but through the US MAIL. I report these people to PayPal & eBay before they have time to reverse the transaction themselves. Oddly, PayPal is slow to freeze the funds though. Talking to the call center in India sucks.

I also only sell to people in the in my own country (US).

This is in no way scam-proof. Scammers gonna scam. But, there is easier pickins. Predators prefer easy prey.

My eBay sales are small time. Sales of 1BTC. Some people buy two. My limit is 5 per person per 90 days (i think 90 days). I have my buyer restrictions set to the most aggressive values. I keep in contact with a few other sellers and share ban lists.

Eventually, someone else will scam me again. But with a 20-30% markup, I'll be OK.

750  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: You've got PayPal? I'll sell you Bitcoins. on: September 13, 2012, 04:02:20 PM

This is an auction for a physical note with 10 coins. However, I'm going to provide you with 14 BTC.

The note is beautiful. I've been selling bit coins on paper on eBay for a while now and using plain old paper. Thanks for the presentation suggestion.

I hope to see all eBay sellers move to a paper sales system. Help to remove some of the scammers from the eBay/PayPal system.

If you're like me, you're not willing to shell out 27 bucks for a molex equipped extender from Cablesaurus or eBay. Fortunately they are pretty easy to make. Thanks to haploid for some tips.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the 12v power is for? I wanted to buy a cable to get one of my MSI r7970 cards moved over a bit more and found this cable...

http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-Express-Extender-Extension-Ribbon/dp/B00646VJDG/ref=pd_sim_pc_1

But in the same search results was this post. What is the 12v power for?
753  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have cgminer 2.6.5 compiled for Mac OSX OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on: September 12, 2012, 02:03:20 PM
I can give you the working source for 2.6.5 now if you like.

Don't think it will work for me, I have an FPGA and IIRC you need to specify the icarus option during compile. I'd love to be wrong though...

I specifically compiled it with options enabled to support FPGA but then I never bought an FPGA. I'm worried it won't pay for itself now. So I'm waiting.

Icarus drivers are compiled in and there is a command line option to set your board information.... I don't have one so obviously I have not tested it. From the readme it looks something like this...

--icarus-options 57600:2:1

754  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have cgminer 2.6.5 compiled for Mac OSX OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on: September 12, 2012, 01:19:42 PM
I tried using macports but it didn't work by itself.

When running configure, I compiled all of the dependencies individually until I got the sucker to compile with GPU support enabled. Each item that was missing was downloaded from wherever they live. I had problems with several dependencies too.

I had to copy some of the libraries for some of the dependencies into the source tree and I had to change the compile options to link to them -l??? -l?Huh etc.

It took a couple hours of futzing but I needed a diversion from my real job anyway. I was going to try to compile 2.7.6? later today.

I can give you the working source for 2.6.5 now if you like.

755  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ModMiner Quad High Efficiency FPGA Bitcoin Mining Devices 840Mh/s BTCFPGA.com on: September 12, 2012, 11:45:50 AM
no no ASICS arent shipping until November/December we are currently shipping FPGA Based units

Tom, Would you consider a lay-away plan for the november/december ASICs? Some sort of minimum deposit with the balance due on november 1st and the ability to make payments in the interim? Fairness would dictate a %loss of deposit if the buyer didn't follow through.

I realize this ads load to your accounting staff. But it would help smaller miners get in line for the product now instead of hoping they are available when they can save up the cash.

756  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer - HashKing on: September 12, 2012, 10:25:08 AM
Every cent he owns from his car to his house to the clothes in his closet and the balance of every bank account could be used to satisfy a judgement.

The problem with judgements is they are hard to collect. Unless you have a private company handle it for you, it's a HUGE involvement to identify and seize assets. It's not something most people can handle on their own without dedicating their life to the task. And in this case, you're part of a class... Typically the lawyers suck up the bulk of the judgement in a class action.

I currently have 2 judgements against people in my area who have caused damage to my boat. There are a lot of yah hoos out there on the weekends. Unskilled operator crashes are a daily occurrence in the marina on weekends. People buy boats without knowing how to use them.

I'm finding it near impossible to collect these judgements. It's my responsibility to identify their assets and I just don't have the time and skill to do this on my own. For $5000, My time is turning out to be more important than collecting the judgement. I have a lien on a car in one case and a lien on a home in another case. The guy's car is shit and not worth the lien. He can never sell it but who would buy it. The home is deep underwater and it's about to become bank owned. That is probably the only judgement I will collect and it's been 8 years in the works.

So how much information do you guys have about him to get your "contract" enforced?

It's pretty amazing that so many people have been caught in shit like this.

It's absolutely pathetic how many people are caught up in shit like this.
It's kind of like a reverse Oprah show...

YOU get robbed, and YOU get robbed, and YOU GET ROBBED!

I have sympathy for people who lose their wallets to trojans.
Less so for those that are a victim of their own greed.
758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If I was a newbie.... on: September 11, 2012, 06:16:39 PM
If you were a noobie, maybe all this negative stuff would help you not get scammed so easily... wait...

noobs still get scammed.

Early adopters still get scammed.

Dun Dun Dun!!!

Greed is the problem. Greed makes it so easy to rob everyone.

Seafood is gross.. I will not eat any seafood..... Shit doesn't agree with me.. Probably a mental thing but I hate the stuff...

If you're eating shit then there is no wonder you're getting ill from it.

If someone told you shit was seafood when you were little, they lied to you. Give it another shot.

And don't do ass to mouth either.
