7441  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Earth's Magnetic Field Is Weakening 10 Times Faster Now on: July 11, 2014, 10:19:15 AM
Back in the 70s when I was young, there was an acquaintance of mine who was a dental student who had a friend, who was an astrophysicist from Pepperdine.  He had a theory of a polar axis shift and that it occurs quite rapidly.   He said that is what explained the mammoth found in the artic with still undigested food in it's stomach, the Beresovka Mammoth.  Anyway, he said back then that it would occur soon, and would be cataclysmic.  Of course, "soon" is a relative term, so who knows what was meant, years, decades, centuries, within the next millennium.  Oh well, if it happens that way, just hold on and enjoy the ride....while you can!
We are about due for a pole reversal.  Australia has had the south to itself for long enough.
The only thing a magnetic pole reversal will do is change the directions on a compass.

Unless the Earth's axis tilt changes, or the Earth's orbit around the Sun changes, nothing significant will happen to the climate.
IT won't really change Earth's atmosphere, which is as important as Earth's magnetic field in relation to solar flares.

That's kind of neat then although I guess since a pole reversal takes a long time I wouldn't live to see the compass in reverse.
"Such a flip is not instantaneous, but would take many hundred if not a few thousand years," Floberghagen told Live Science. "They have happened many times in the past."
7442  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice.com | Most Popular Bitcoin Game! | 700M+ Bets | 390k+ BTC Wagered | on: July 11, 2014, 09:24:41 AM
A quick sneak peak at one of our many giveaways we will be doing for Primedice 3 launch...

... The first person to unlock every achievement will receive a massive 25 BITCOIN Smiley And this is definitely not going to be our biggest giveaway either.. Stay tuned Smiley

Achievements are related to number of bets, wagered, chat activity, referring players, profit etc. There's a total of 26 of them. They are definitely not impossible to achieve! I suspect it won't take long for someone to take the cake.

Ah, so referral links will go live? Will we get credit for referrals and money they deposit? The giveaway seems like a good marketing trick  Cheesy. I can see that drawing in a flurry of gamblers trying to desperately win the jackpot haha. Looking forward to the site just like everyone else  Grin.

I thought they were the affiliate links in the present PD but perhaps they will be different not sure how old accounts transition to the new system or if it instant unlocks some of the award tiers Smiley
7443  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: July 11, 2014, 09:18:28 AM
Primedice3 is soon to launch. And the official countdown is about to start.

When I say so (I will send out a mass PM when), all members will need to change their signature daily to create a "count down" effect.

Example:

On the 18th (Not actual date just example) I PM everyone saying change your signature to "PrimeDice3 launching in 10 days". Everyone will do so.
On the 19th everyone changes their signature to "PrimeDice3 launching in 9 days". Everyone will do so.
On the 20th everyone changes their signature to "PrimeDice3 launching in 8 days". Everyone will do so.

This will only take you guys about 30 seconds a day to do. If you for some reason you miss a day that's perfectly fine. Just make sure when your posting your signature always aligns up with the current count down date.

No one will be disqualified for not doing this, but it'd be greatly appreciated for the very small amount of work it'll take for you guys Smiley.

Cheers guys & as always thanks for the continued support!!

Congrats on PD3 been hearing about it for a while now so it's nice to hear the countdown is now on to its official release Smiley
7444  Economy / Economics / Re: How and why Bitcoin will plummet in price on: July 11, 2014, 06:51:13 AM
Let's say you have a car rental company named "Hertz" and it is willing to rent you a car for $100. Then suppose that another car rental company named "Avis" comes along and is willing to rent you a car for $90. And then yet another car rental company named "Enterprise" comes along and is willing to rent you a  car for $80. And to make matters worse, there are now hundreds of other car rental companies.

That guy is saying that "Hertz" should have gone bankrupt decades ago.

Nice

I was reading it as
For purposes of argument, let’s say that a year from now Bitcoin is priced at $500. Then you want some Bitcoin, let’s say to buy some drugs.  And you find someone willing to sell you Bitcoin for about $500.

So lets say your thinking in 2011 your Silk Road and the only thing on the market and then the Black Market Reloaded comes along and then another drug exchange and another that does youtube advertising *_*.
Basically more than one can exist (- the youtube advertising one)

7445  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-10] New Study: Low Bitcoin Transaction Fees Unsustainable on: July 11, 2014, 06:39:52 AM
This is bollocks doesn't include new developments in the field
Sidechains merge mining for namecoins + Future sidechains etc.
Were not building a paypal with high fees ...
7446  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. W on: July 11, 2014, 06:16:00 AM
I've sent first bunch of payouts yesterday. Second will be sent until next week. Campaign are closed, btw. All who keep our signatures this week will receive payouts too.

Hmm so free advertising in order to get the payout
As far as I'm concerned the users of this campaign met the requirement and posting length a while ago no reason to keep using it but I guess the payments are hostage that said I agree with the above should drop and demand payment as its way late.
7447  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox CEO selling Bitcoins.com, will give some proceeds to burned investors on: July 11, 2014, 06:13:40 AM
Best case possible, he gets $750,000 for the domain and gives it all back to investors. That's still chump change compared to the cumulative loss of everyone that had btc stuck in mtgox when it went down. That's less than $1 per btc.

Youch and well I guess it still is a value was pretty much expecting those who bought gox coins to not even get a dollar back on their purchase
Sucks for the investors.
7448  Economy / Economics / Re: What about the idea of an inflationary bitcoin? on: July 11, 2014, 06:09:17 AM
This is called dogecoin.  So far the jury is still out.  However, I like bitcoin's deflationary aspect.

True doge has a really large minting so it doesn't help it in that sense
But your right more or less the jury is still out on that
7449  Economy / Economics / Re: What about the idea of an inflationary bitcoin? on: July 10, 2014, 11:23:10 PM
It's already inflationary
Controlled supply until 2100 + so you don't really need to worry about it being deflationary in our lifetime Smiley

But Danny has a point it depends how people will perceive a decreasing Bitcoin supply
7450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has officially become the one world currency on: July 10, 2014, 11:19:26 PM

7451  Economy / Economics / Re: Why does acceptance of Bitcoin has to do with the price of Bitcoin? on: July 10, 2014, 11:09:24 PM
As more people use it, demand for a bitcoin will be higher. Since it has a finite supply, price per unit will naturally rise.

That its the effect of adoption that can be simplified to a supply and demand curve
More users and a limited supply increases price but we can also look at it from a S-Shaped adoption curve etc to determine how it moves.

That and  Metcalfes law

7452  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens when *WE* are the wealthy elite? on: July 10, 2014, 11:05:11 PM
I'm hoping the Bitcoin elite will use their power and influcence to better themselves and the society.  Staying away from the ways of the current banking model and overall pyramid scheme like economic model we have had and do currently have.

I hope they develop science and technology to new forefronts and make space travel and subliminal communication a reality
Perhaps too much to ask in a century but society has come pretty far in the last 100 years.

That wouldn't be such a bad either haha.  I'm all about that as long as these technological advancements are beneficial to the masses.  As for subliminal communication that is a very interesting prospect I too would appreciate seeing that developed but seems a little science fiction like at the moment sadly.  But you know what they say reality is stranger than fiction.

Actually right now we are already working on luminal communication the field of Silicion Photonics is moving ahead pretty rapidly.
Got some neat projects like Li-Fi technologies and replacing Silicon chips with Light communications in our computers so it might be attainable in the 100 year era.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-Fi
http://www.technologyreview.com/news/420082/computing-at-the-speed-of-light/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_photonics

Last week, Paniccia’s team demonstrated the first complete photonic communications system made from components fully integrated into silicon chips. Electronic data piped into one chip is converted into laser light that travels down an optical fiber and is transferred back into electrical signals a few fractions of a second later. The system can carry data at a rate of 50 gigabits per second, enough to transfer a full-length HD movie in less than a second.

The silicon photonic chips could replace the electronic connections between a computer’s key components, such as its processors and memory. Copper wiring used today can carry data signals at little more than 10 gigabits per second. That means critical components like the central processing unit and the memory in a server cannot be too far apart, which restricts how computers can be built.

The new Intel setup has four lasers built into its transmitter chip that shine data into a single optical fiber at slightly different wavelengths, or “colors.” Chips with even more lasers should make it possible to communicate at 1,000 gigabits per second.

“Having a chip the size of your fingernail that can deliver a terabit per second changes the way you can think about design,” says Paniccia. Such chips could make a big difference inside the sprawling data centers operated at great expense by Web giants like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook. “Data centers today are big piles of copper–that imposes the limits on how you arrange components inside a server,” Paniccia says.

So yep reality is moving that way at the moment where science fiction will become reality
Also be ready to meet HAL XD
7453  Other / Politics & Society / Re: THE OIL AND GAS BUBBLE IS ABOUT TO POP!!! on: July 10, 2014, 10:58:57 PM
China will have to cut down on fossil fuels simply due to the fact that their cities become less and less habitable with all the smog these days. You can't even seem to see your own hand!

Yeah, when they start dying they will leave or stop using so much.

I don't understand what the world is waiting for

Oil is going to be gone one day..

And it's price will always be increasing, why don't we just start the shift to new resources..

It's still cheaper to use the other stuff than it is to work on renewable tech
Pretty much its a matter of economy

@Swords, I couldn't agree with you more about UX. And with this in mind our revamped site will feature a UX overhaul with the goal of having a straightforward and rigid user experience, life Facebook, that hopefully the less tech-saavy users will feel comfortable using.

Thanks for the reply, and having more options in regards to the interface as Ariticmine pointed out would be good as it is about the overall user experience. (I know when the buttons and layouts change without a revert to old option like Google force feeds users now and then it can annoy users)
Cheers

how is possible we didn't get any BTC today???

https://blockchain.info/address/1PETAmNrgdzx3FwzJPNuhx18JVKdGtwWt6

Chalk it up to variance perhaps
Not sure forgot the pool peta uses but if it didn't find a block yet today that would happen as well.

I wonder if the domain will hit its minimum anyways $750,000 seems way over the top
Especially with the recent domain sale of satoshi.com not netting anywhere near that amount still worth watching though.

For those curious summary 1/10 of 750,000  Cool
7458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tell me atleast 3 reason why someone should hate Bitcoin Foundation? on: July 10, 2014, 08:18:01 AM
1. They accept anyone that is willing to pay for membership. It's all about greed and money. You can be a scammer and still join, as long as you pay.
3. Core development can still happen outside of the foundation. Again, why is it needed?

In addition to 1. They also gave KNC miner that status but were unable to prove that transaction as Phin pointed out
2. Do not trust them to represent the head of Bitcoin as they are presently perceived but that we need more choices
3. Theymos said that they are not related to the core devs, so that part is misaligned I believe with haploid but in general devs don't use it except Gavin really.

He-He got to give it to miner
1. They accept anyone that is willing to pay for membership. It's all about greed and money. You can be a scammer and still join, as long as you pay.
2. What good have they done for bitcoin? Bitcoin can still function without them, so no need to centralize.
3. Core development can still happen outside of the foundation. Again, why is it needed?

1. They have failed in forcing people to actually find out what the foundation was set up for.

7459  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-10] Bitcoin Foundation Hires Lobbying Firm on: July 10, 2014, 08:10:52 AM
Yep I wonder if they will be able to build up that goodwill they said they will.

The lobbyists' role will be to build "a reservoir of goodwill that we can deploy when we need to avert a crisis," said Jim Harper, global policy counsel for the foundation, on a call with reporters Wednesday. "The best work will head off problems before they become interesting to all of you."

Who cares about the Bitcoin Foundation these days?

No one really, besides the regulators now and then
News of the day and the Lobbying Firm they hired
http://online.wsj.com/articles/bitcoin-foundation-hires-lobbying-firm-1404918261

Backers of the virtual currency bitcoin are beefing up their Washington presence as they seek to shape government oversight of the fledgling payment system.

The effort has been building since a number of federal agencies began examining bitcoin last year, but reached a milestone on Wednesday when the Bitcoin Foundation, the top trade organization for the new technology, said it had retained a lobbying firm for the first time.

The foundation hired Thorsen French Advocacy, a firm led by two former bipartisan congressional staffers, reflecting the group's desire to win support on Capitol Hill at a time when it's trying to influence an array of policy decisions. At least 13 U.S. government agencies have examined bitcoin, the Government Accountability Office said in a report last month.

The lobbyists' role will be to build "a reservoir of goodwill that we can deploy when we need to avert a crisis," said Jim Harper, global policy counsel for the foundation, on a call with reporters Wednesday. "The best work will head off problems before they become interesting to all of you."
