BTC is not useful for laundering, everybody can see what you are doing in the blockchain
7443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my wallets were stolen just now, can any one help me? on: August 27, 2013, 11:45:24 AM
@tkone, the most secure way is to use an offline cold wallet for sure. using online wallets puts you at risk.
7444  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: August 27, 2013, 11:01:06 AM
I don't get the emails to authorize my login location.
help?

You only get the emails if you use your wallet nickname - if you enter your wallet id then it should just work, unless you have specifically enabled IP lock in which case you need to login from that IP.

You can look up your wallet id by looking back in any of your emails - it's a long letter/number combination with dashes a bit like this:

a1a42652-0de0-4a14-9d1c-7ed30ecea224

Will

I'm not getting 2FA emails, so this isn't helpful. Is there not a way for me to download the wallet.aes.json without 2FA?

Thanks for the tip. Glad I did not invest. So I take it this was some kind of hoax?

Yes, it was some sort of failed ponzi/scam
7448  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: August 27, 2013, 10:32:37 AM
Hi,

I can't login to blockchain.info/wallet using 2FA (google authenticator)

I've checked http://blockchain.info/time for server time and it looks like it is about 35sec ahead.

My time is synced with European time server and appears to be correct - I've checked several devices and all display the same timing.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Same problem here. I am not receiving any emails from blockchain.info and I am unable to access my account since I cannot complete the 2FA challenge.

I hope piuk fixes this soon.

The post count to get out of Newbies was lowered from 5 to 1? I think that was a good change, basically everybody was making spam posts in the newbie forum to get up to five posts.

I think the post count requirement is still 5. The time requirement is still the same too. Where did you read that from?

First there is a 256 bit private key.  This private key may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

Then the computer computes a 256 bit public key.  This public key may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

Then the computer calculates a 256 bit SHA256 hash of the public key.  This SHA256 hash may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

Then the computer calculates a 160 bit RIPEMD-160 hash of the SHA256 hash value.  This RIPEMD-160 hash may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

Finally the computer calculates a 32 bit checksum of the RIPEMD-160 value.  This checksum may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

The computer concatenates a version number, the RIPEMD-160 hash, and the checksum.  This concatenated value is what is known as a Bitcoin Address.  It may be converted to Hex or Base58 for the purposes of display to humans in some cases, but internally the computer represents it in binary.

Very interesting read. I didn't know exactly how addresses are formed until I read this.

The 'point' of a lot of altcoins is pump and dump. However there are a few innovative ideas out there.

I suggest you stop selling Bitcoin for Paypal. Reversible and non-reversible don't mix very well. Anyone with 3 years experience as a "trusted exchanger" should know that.

PS: are you xch4ng3, or is that a different guy?
