Always fascinating to me when I see multiple users suddenly making the same mistake...
7502  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 5oz .999 Silver NastyFans Minted Seats on: September 14, 2021, 07:55:41 PM
Are these by any chance still available?

Yes. There are still a few available for sale that are sitting and waiting to be engraved for you. They can be purchased using Bitcoin from our shop at https://nastyfans.org/mint

Once these coins are sold out, the opportunity to mint them will be lost forever. Don’t take their availability over the last several years for granted!
7503  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Where did all the OG collectors go? on: September 14, 2021, 07:50:47 PM
What is an OG collector, anyway? I bought a couple dozens of Casascius from Mr. Mike Caldwell himself at end of 2012. Am I an OG?  Cool

Yes :-)

-Dave

Hmmmmm...I didn't buy a couple dozen but did buy one silver/gilt from Mike himself in 2013...what does that make me? LOL

Is there a time frame and quantity a person must have bought to be labeled an OG?  Huh Wink

P.S.  and I am not a whale either

I consider things pre-2014 to be pretty OG. By 2016 every scammer on the internet was descending upon Bitcoin and these forums and the attitude changed from one of Libertarians trying to change the world, to scammers trying to get rich quick and attacking anything they saw as competition to their offerings. If I were to pick an OG collectibles peak though, it would definitely be 2011-2012 as that is where 99% of the innovation occurred in the space.

...
Ben Simmons is going to be playing game 1 with the sixers book it.
I hope somebody leaks a locker room video if this happens. That could be interesting and fun to watch.

If I am the 76ers management I'll take that deal with Fox. Damn, that kid has some skills already and a lot of room for improvement.
Fox is more than enough if Kings will push this trade, that kid really has a good future.

Pairing him with Embiid with the same minutes and same quality time that Sixers gave to Simmons,
we might expect them to be more competitive this coming season..
Sorry for my ignorance but I don't know how Fox really plays. Is he another pass to an open guy first type of player? He could make Embiid shine while helping in carrying the team if that's the case. It should be a good deal for the Sixers.

Fox is a speed demon who can put up a lot of points. He’s sort of like a more team oriented Westbrook.

Looks like John Wall and the Rockets are done. The Rockets announced they’re looking for a trade for him to find a new team. Announcing this publicly seems like a desperation move. Something must have happened for them to want to publicly beg for a trade like that. Maybe they’re hoping to get in on the Ben Simmons sweepstakes too.
7505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm back into Bitcoin! on: September 14, 2021, 11:06:02 AM
Hello everyone, I recently did a cleanup on my external hard drive and I found a wallet.dat file.

At first I didn't have any idea of what this was, so I went ahead and deleted the file and continued my cleanup. I was still pretty intrigued by the filename, "wallet" so I looked up the exact name of the file: 'wallet.dat'. The first search result was this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet. I read that it's basically a file containing all of the important information related to a Bitcoin wallet. I also read that this file is normally located in the Bitcoin Core wallet directory, so I went ahead and installed the latest version of Bitcoin Core and looked in my trash bin folder, and sure enough, the wallet.dat file was in there. I had to wait 2 days or so for it to sync to the blockchain. Unfortuantely, I knew did not mine any BTC back then, I could only remember visiting a faucet a few times.

Today I woke up to this: 2.49 BTC sitting in the balance field. Man, I knew Bitcoin wasn't worth 20$ anymore! Let me tell you, this made my day, probably, my week or even this entire year!

Is there anything I need to do now that I'm holding a pretty big amount of Bitcoin? I've read that hardware wallets are the safest, should I buy one? Is there anything I need to know?

Congratulations.  It's hard to believe stories like this when you read them on the internet, but I'm sure there's plenty of Bitcoin left on old hard drives all over the place.  I think this phenomenon is definitely partly responsible for the massive increase in market cap over the years.  I think the real market cap of Bitcoin is most likely quite a bit lower than what is stated, and more than other coins due to the fact that many of the early adopters of Bitcoin left long before altcoins were a thing and it looked like Bitcoin would be here to stay.
7506  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: September 14, 2021, 10:53:34 AM
How about NFT giveaways for watching episodes within a certain timeframe?  You could have some sort of QR code that is displayed during the video and leads to a link to receive a free NFT.  Each episode could have a new NFT and the link could stay active for 24 hours after the show goes live.  Just a wild idea I haven't seen anyone do yet.  It's a bit off Bitcoin since the NFTs would most likely be based on a chain with low fees like Polygon, but maybe such a thing is/could be a reality when lightning becomes more popular and we get a section to discuss it here. 7507  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Things I learned from Abraham Lincoln on: September 14, 2021, 10:49:56 AM
Abraham Lincoln is the person who will be remembered in the history of the world. The 16th president of America (in 1861 -1865 )did good effort work for humanity. His work to free blacks from slavery is acknowledged. He has the quality of leadership with temperance, good speaker, honesty, and has a good personality. He was the popular leader of the United States.

I can't disagree that he accomplished a lot and will be remembered as having been a major factor in the abolishment of slavery in the United States.  That being said, I am not sure if his motivation was so much focused on slavery as the history books would have you believe.  I think financing of the industrial revolution played a role, but then again that's crazy talk on a decentralized currency forum on the internet.
7508  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Soros : financial or social terrorist ? on: September 14, 2021, 10:45:43 AM
It's hard to argue that Soros hasn't been involved in some shady social dealings in order to further his financial interests.  I think he does it purely out of greed though.  I don't believe he is inherently evil or trying to do bad like some sort of supervillain.  I think he's just a guy who has spent his life growing his bag and he considers it his legacy so he wants to do everything he can in order to make that happen.  Sadly, it takes a lot to move the needle at his level so there are certainly under the radar things that occur in order to help specific market bets.
7509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling awareness for adolescents on: September 14, 2021, 10:43:01 AM

I think it's a horrible initiative that will likely lead to those being exposed to it falling victim to higher than average gambling addiction rates.  Who knows though, they could be doing it from a much more educated perspective and in a way that will lead to responsible gambling for entertainment.  Still, you can't help but feel like children should be sheltered a bit from the vices of the world until they're old enough to be able to handle the responsibility.
7510  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: September 14, 2021, 10:39:58 AM
It seems like with all the money that was spent promoting Roobet via SteveWillDoIt videos and streams, there isn't any sign of it here at bitcointalk.  I think people here might not be the target audience for that content, but I think the brand is well represented.  Maybe Roobet should consider posting threads when new YouTube videos come out featuring Roobet as a sponsor.  I know I happened upon seeing Roobet on there by coincidence or I would have never known.
7511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot vs Video Poker on: September 14, 2021, 10:36:41 AM
I think most of us would prefer a game like poker that gives us a better sense that we're in control of our fate.  When it comes to slots you are pretty much just shoveling coins into a hole, which I could find better places than the inside of a casino to do such a thing.  Nowadays though, even the slots have little games and animations going on to where you feel like you're more involved.  I can only imagine what the future will hold.  Soon it may be like taking a roller coaster ride in VR every time you pull the lever.
7512  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: September 14, 2021, 10:34:20 AM
I'm hearing rumors that a team is close to making a deal for Ben Simmons.  I think it may be the Sacramento Kings, but that's just a guess based on the description of it being a small market team and Ben Simmons saying he wanted to play in California.  It would be terrible if the Kings had to give up Fox to get him, but it seems like Fox might want out and if that's the case then it would be good to get a guy in return who wants to be there.  I think in the next 2 weeks we'll be hearing an announcement of a trade.
7513  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialists in Bitcoin(talk). on: September 13, 2021, 11:03:10 PM
The Libertarian spirit in this forum that once was a nearly unanimous attitude has turned into a mostly silent presence. It’s amazing to see that as Bitcoin went mainstream and enriched it’s supporters, suddenly the majority of newcomers were “socialists” seeking their piece of the pie. This is when it went from wanting to develop a new system to replace the old, to wanting to sellout in any way possible to assimilate into the old system and raise the price.
7514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: September 12, 2021, 08:41:38 PM

It is expected. Westbrook will most probably lose his triple double stats consistency, because he joined a super team where more than 2 players could dish like a pass-first point guard and another 2 who can dominantly grab rebounds.
The best thing Westbrook can do is to continue being an explosive point guard. Drive the lane and draw defenders and dish out to the spot up shooters.
If he can perfectly compliment LeBron and AD's style of play, they'll be a tough team to beat in the playoffs.
Yes! he might lose that stats knowing that he's now playing with both LeBron and Davis, who are always capable in producing that stats.
But for sure, if the right blend will be developed between these 3 stars, then adding up the spice by bringing Melo and Howard.
It's Excite me to see if how good Lakers stars in terms of adjusting in every position that they'll going to play.

They are not in their prime but by experienced, they are still capable of beating any teams from this league. Just my personal opinion.

I hope Westbrook is willing to accept his new role, the Lakers will not be successful if they will not play as a team, or have good chemistry. It's not about the individual numbers now, it's the team that should win the championship, and since Davis and James had already achieved that success in Lakers, I guess Westbrook has to follow the orders to have his first championship as well.

Westbrook isn’t going to change overnight and I think that’s fine. He brings a ton of energy to the table which LeBron lacks, and he’s a great rebounder which should take some slack off the Lakers big men. As long as Westbrook improves his 3 point shooting I think he’ll be just fine. Especially when LeBron is off the floor. My main concern is that LeBron might find his lack of compassion for his teammate’s dumb mistakes may find him in a rocky relationship with the sometimes streaky guard.
7515  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Where did all the OG collectors go? on: September 12, 2021, 08:34:46 PM
This is a rather easy question to answer. This forum is full of trolls and there is no moderation of any kind stopping them from attacking OGs with lies and teaming up to chase them from these forums. It happens time and again, yet people still say nothing when this behavior is occurring and don’t even take issue with other members including trolls in their trust network. Ask yourself if you have excluded Vod from your trust network yet? Why not? What about the people that include him in their trust network? This obvious lack of judgement is fine for them to be in DT right? Look at my trust ratings if you don’t understand why OGs flee this place as soon as they reach a place of financial freedom. I just wonder why people keep asking this question and then do nothing to try and correct the problem when you have an OG telling you exactly what the problem is and it’s blatantly obvious…  My question to the community is, do we want OGs to stick around here? If so, do we want to start showing them the respect they deserve and defending them from lying trolls or do you expect people like myself to continue spending years of their time coming here to refute one lie after another in an endless string of misinformation attacks that sabotage projects regardless of how much evidence and publicly documented facts are presented proving otherwise. That’s where the road to being an OG ends for most… I’ve certainly seen first hand why most choose to leave instead. Stick around long enough and see some personal success, you will to.

TL;DR

Trolls are more highly regarded here then OGs.
7516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shall We Hold Our Bitcoin Like Gollum? on: September 11, 2021, 08:19:05 PM
I’ve never watched Lord of the Rings, but this Gollum guy sounds like the typical late to the party maximalist. Guessing their appearance isn’t too far apart either. Just remember, don’t use your Bitcoin for anything. Hold it until some other newcomer will pay you more money for it. That’s totally not a Ponzi scheme and will change the world. Don’t question it.
7517  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Biden’s SEC is ready to regulate cryptocurrency on: September 10, 2021, 11:55:38 PM
Biden’s team is ready to regulate everything. If there’s one thing they want to do, it’s have complete control over everything you do. They want to regulate every dollar you spend, control your healthcare decisions, close small businesses, and get everyone working for massive companies in bed with the government or on universal income. Then they can make sure recessions are a thing of the past and have total control over their tax deposits with absolutely nothing but a decentralized currency and wealthy self sufficient individuals to stand in their way.
7518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My hardware store now accepts Bitcoin! on: September 10, 2021, 07:06:49 AM
Definitely a win for Bitcoin, your business, and your community. Good on you. How about some pictures of signage or whatever it is you use to accept Bitcoin. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words AMD everybody loves a little Bitcoin porn. Let us know how the popularity goes over time.
7519  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Doctors beg people to take the vaccine on: September 09, 2021, 10:37:58 PM
Doctors begging patients to get it. Government begging businesses to force it on their employees. Manufacturers begging politicians to mandate it for all. Talk of new world order in public seems to be met with glee. I don’t know what happened these last few years, but society has lost their damn minds. It definitely makes social distancing more bearable…

Tesla’s Powerwall App has been updated with the ability to take your home off grid. This is pretty cool. With the touch of a button on my phone I can now power my home exclusively with the battery backup. Granted when you add mining into the mix it only lasts a couple of hours, but still extremely cool. I just wish I had more space for solar panels and more batteries!
