I totally agree with Theymos that the vast majority of plagiarists deserve a permaban, but I'm glad to see the case-by-case approach being implemented.

There are the rare cases where it's to the benefit of the community that amember not be gone for good, and I very much like the 2-year signature ban.  I think that's a fair punishment.
7522  Economy / Speculation / Re: The slow 5 days of green ended in less than 5 hrs. on: February 25, 2019, 06:41:28 PM
New strategy learned, ride the slow price increase and wait for the sudden price increase within a day then sell  Shocked.
That doesn't apply in every increase, but if you think you can profit even a little and doesn't care if the price will still increase then that's win win strategy than holding IMO.

This is crypto market, that sudden decrease is not a new thing, it can even do in just 1 hour or so.
That's definitely not any sort of strategy for the future--the price just happened to behave like this and there's no guarantee it'll act the same in the future.  I get the feeling OP is setting himself up to lose more money if he thinks his plan is going to work next time we see a slow gain over a few days, but who knows.

On a positive note, btc is back around $3800 right now, and I'm glad it didn't fall any further than it did.  Could have been much worse.
7523  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Zepher Memorial Thread on: February 25, 2019, 06:28:12 PM
Aw man.....I did not know Zepher but definitely know his name and reputation here, and this news saddens me.  RIP, Zepher.  And I wish mom and the family all the best and hope they can cope as best they can.
7524  Economy / Reputation / Re: ac2eugenio maybe alts? on: February 25, 2019, 05:37:47 PM
He’s also a vocal member of the degenerate group who are trying to manipulate DT to remove Lauda. See this thread -

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5103988.msg49849481#msg49849481

I suggest more DT1 & DT2 members paint this bitch red Smiley
They've been very quiet as of late, unless I'm missing something.  Anyone know what happened to them?  Very odd that they seem to have all gone silent at once.

Nice catch, OP.  It wouldn't surprise me if there are even more accounts involved, in order to strengthen the troll signal.
7525  Other / Meta / Re: New collection of badges for self-made users on: February 25, 2019, 12:38:18 AM
Not too long ago, there was some discussion about some sort of "rank up" signifier in the form of a special title or a tweak in the look of the gold coins or whatever, and there was a lot of interest if I recall correctly.  What happened to all those ideas?  My guess is that they were ultimately discarded by Theymos, that he's not likely to start making the distinction between "self-made" and older Legendaries.

The last thing we need is identity politics linked to forum rank, but if something had to be done based on this thread I'd say hugeblack has a decent suggestion.
7526  Other / Meta / Re: A Hope for the Progress of this Forum on: February 24, 2019, 12:20:56 AM
Screw KYC.  This is a forum, not a money-changing website.  There's no need for it and it would be more than a little ironic if a forum dedicated to a semi-anonymous currency required members to disclose their identities--plus I don't trust anyone on the web with personal info.  Bitcointalk has been hacked more times than Lizzie Borden's folks, and who knows who would end up with my dox when (not if) it happens again.

As to the mobile site suggestion: you're spot-on, it would be awesome to have an option for phone users.  It's been discussed many times before.  You might want to do some reading before all the suggesting.
7527  Economy / Speculation / Re: 🔴 🔴 It's happening! It's happening! It's happening! ⭕ ⭕ on: February 23, 2019, 10:49:06 PM
And what is actually happening? The price has grown few hundred dollars but that still doesn't mean anything substantial
I'm skeptical as to whether reaching $4100 means anything significant as well, but on the other hand part of me is jumping around with the goats and Gleb about bitcoin finally looking to be unstuck after months of being beaten down.

This may be some sort of dead cat bounce, but guaranteed there are a lot of people who've already made money on it.  Moving up a couple hundred dollars when the price was in the $3000 range is nothing to sneeze at either, I might add.
7528  Other / Meta / Re: Distribution of Merit on: February 23, 2019, 08:41:50 PM
Ah, all of those un-merited posts and under-merited members....where the hell are they?

The question has been answered, but I want to mention that I haven't been spending a lot of time lately looking for merit-worthy posts since I currently don't have a computer.  I'll be back in the game as a merit source within 2 weeks or so.  It's just a pain in the ass trying to read stuff on my phone.

OP, just FYI you probably won't get any merits if you're posting in the spammy sections of the forum.  You have to be patient, because it's not supposed to be easy to rank up anymore.
7529  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Plunge to $3,700 Expected, Say Traders on: February 23, 2019, 06:42:33 PM
- Expect plunge to a new low for 2019, if not one even lower than 2018's low. This has been the expectation for a while now, get on with the programme;)
- The longer this "bear", the better. It's already a blessing for anyone who missed out on pre 2017 bull, like yours truly.
- Still too many bulls not yet consigned to defeat. That's always a big sign it ain't over and we're still in the woods with the bears.
I'm not sure what a "new low" would be for bitcoin, as it's only existed for 10 years and was essentially worthless at its inception.  Maybe if you said a 52-week low, that would make sense.  Anyway I don't think that's going to happen in 2019.  I have no evidence for that of course, but I have a strong feeling we're going to see some price action this year--maybe not $50k or even back to the last ATH, but we'll get out of this range we've been stuck in for months now.

Very nice to see bitcoin breaking $4000. It's not an enormous gain, but at least it's some movement upward.
7530  Other / Meta / Re: Voice chat with members on: February 22, 2019, 10:46:02 PM
The last time someone had a voice chat with members of the forum he ended up showing his little pecker on camera so. Aren't there any bars near you? Wanting to talk to strangers over the Internet is the cringiest/saddest thing ever.
Jet Cash is old-school mixed with a little modernity, and I'm not surprised he wants to verbally chat with some of the personalities here--you make it sound like a goddamn incel or MGTOW convention, and I don't see it as pathetic or sad.  It's actually a warm gesture on his part.

Man, I thought I was too cynical.  Can't keep up with you, brohonkey.

Edit:
Is that a Luke Cage type metaphor or something?   Shocked
Say what, now? I used to be a Power Man/Iron Fist fan and don't see the connection.  And no, I'm not gay for JC.  He just seems like he'd be an interesting person to have a chat with.
7531  Other / Meta / Re: Voice chat with members on: February 22, 2019, 09:44:46 PM
Like I've previously said, I speak a bit to fast and mumble my way through most of it so I'm not going to be good at testing Grin.
Lol, I don't know if I'd make a great conversationalist either, but I might give it a shot with Jet Cash just for the hell of it.  Unfortunately, I need to buy a new PC before I can even think about such a thing.  My damn hard drive bit the dust, and so I'm reduced to hen-pecking on my smartphone for now.

Jet Cash, I wish you were in the states.  Love to have coffee with you or something. I'll keep this thread in mind for when I finally do get a new computer.  Hopefully it'll be within two weeks or so.
7532  Economy / Reputation / Re: Battle between titans. DT against DT, why? on: February 22, 2019, 06:41:25 PM
Just curious, who are you talking about in particular?  My PC crashed and I lost the bookmark to all the DT lists, so I don't know if it's changed in the past week or so, or who's on DT2.  Has there been any new drama in that time frame? There have always been some members who haven't gotten along (Lauda/OgNasty for example), but I'm not aware of any recent feuds.
7533  Other / Meta / Re: Member defined rank restriction on thread replies on: February 21, 2019, 08:10:54 PM
I think, this feature would be welcome in Bounty Section to prevent spam from newbies.
Pfft...that would cut idiotic "nice project" posts down by 90% or more in that section, but unfortunately that's not where the problem really is.  If spam was confined to ANN threads, we'd be golden.

I doubt this suggestion will take seed, as Theymos wouldn't want such a function overused, thereby discriminating against noobs.  The best option is still to make threads self-moderated and to have enough balls to delete posts that don't add anything of value.
7534  Economy / Economics / Re: You Can Now Send Bitcoin Tips Over Lightning on Twitter on: February 20, 2019, 11:32:35 PM
About time, I swear we had something like this in crypto a few years ago but maybe it was not on BTC but other blockchains.   I definitely used some on reddit however it wasnt perfectly decentralised and eventually some lost due to that flaw.    This sounds superior not a shortcut but requires mass use for a proper test really
Wasn't RDD designed just for this purpose on Redd?  And I do recall people tipping with DOGE a year or two ago when I last visited the doge subreddit.

Certainly tipping for good posts isn't a new idea, and while part of me is throwing a victory fist in the air, a bigger part is wondering whether tipping will ever be a big deal.  There's been discussion about it being implemented on this forum, but it never sounded like a popular idea--and that was before the merit system.  Anyway, good to see something like this for Twitter.
7535  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Day Trading on: February 20, 2019, 07:50:04 PM
No, 95-99% of traders fail because of poor risk management firstly. Then the second reason is that they haven't mastered at least the essential parts of technical analysis. Then comes the emotions, FOMO, etc.. You see.. daytrading is no easy job, you need a lot of time to become proficient and it is not for everybody.
Couldn't agree more--and I can't imagine day trading in the stock market, much less in crypto.  Back in the 90s, there were average people quitting their jobs in order to speculate in tech stocks, and if I'm not mistaken most of them were not successful on average.  It's super-risky, and anyone contemplating doing that in the crypto world ought to think about that decision twice.

In the stock market, you can at least analyze the companies behind the ticker symbols, but you don't even have that much when dealing with cryptocurrency.  It's all TA, and relying on that is insane IMO.
7536  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove marlboroza (me, me) from DT2 on: February 20, 2019, 06:49:27 PM
It's a bit off-topic, but since the subject has already been raised: did anyone PM klinray about this? I don't think it's an appropriate use of the trust system (especially with the added DT weight), but there's a chance he'll miss this thread altogether.
7537  Economy / Reputation / Re: ★ We want @marlboroza on DT1 again ★ on: February 20, 2019, 06:41:42 PM
I voted No only out of respect because he does not want to be on DT. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5108783.0 Here's the whole topic for those who missed it somehow.

I of course would like to see him change his mind and I trust his ratings, but sometime's people just don't want to deal with the hassle. Totally understand and wish him the best.
This is what people don't get about being an active DT member--it is most often more of a pain in the ass than it is rewarding.  And while Id like to see marlboroza back on DT1, I certainly understand why he chose not to be.  I'm not sure what the DT wannabes are thinking, and you know who I'm talking about.

Guaranteed they'd either misuse the privilege or wouldn't venture to tag scammers in the face of the inevitable blowback that comes from doing so.

I didn't exclude marlboroza, as I trust his ratings and he doesn't need me to exclude him so as not to be on DT1 anymore.
7538  Economy / Marketplace / Re: $1000 to spare each month, how would you invest it? on: February 19, 2019, 10:11:37 PM
With king of money and with this price best buy option is bitcoin. Price is very cheap and you can buy it on all exchanges. Second options i=can be ETH, but some say its better to play on some good ICO with bigger return. This is something to think about.
There's no way in hell I'd be chasing ICOs if I had that much extra dough each month.  I will agree that ETH probably isn't a bad idea, since it's been beaten down quite hard in the past year, and it's one of a small handful of coins that actually has utility.  I've got zero faith that any shit ICO token is going to produce any profit whatsoever, be it long- or short-term.

The above statement holds only in the case of having to invest that $1000 in crypto.  If I had a free choice to make I would most likely start buying some blue chip stocks that pay decent dividends.  That's one thing crypto has yet to give investors: income.
7539  Economy / Economics / Re: Italy already in recesion on: February 19, 2019, 06:36:37 PM
How do I short the world?
If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not), I recall reading a book about Jesse Livermore who was a legendary stock trader from almost 100 years ago, and he found a way to do almost exactly that.  He saw a huge recession coming and shorted a wide variety of stocks.  I don't know if you can short index funds, but you could probably make a ton of money doing so.

i've been watching permabears trying to short the stock market for years---such a dangerous game. many trading accounts have been destroyed trying to front run the next 2008. if you wanna try your luck, i suggest the proshares 3x short s&p500 ETF (SPXU) for maximum exposure. Wink

the fact that everyone sees a global recession coming right now tells me it's not happening yet. especially after that v-shaped recovery in stocks. i think people are jumping the gun by a couple years.
I must have missed your reply here, but now that I saw it, I have to say I agree--people are probably being too quick in saying an economic disaster is on our doorstep by a couple of years at least.  There are always people saying everything is going to crash, even in the best of times.

Italy is just one country; it's an important one, true, but it's certainly possible for a single country to be doing badly while the rest of the world is thriving.  Remember Greece?  How about Venezuela?  You'll know we're collectively in trouble once the rot spreads to whole continents, and right now things just aren't that bad.  Certainly not bad enough to start contemplating a short sale of global stock market indexes.
7540  Other / Meta / Re: This is not fair, moderator deleted my post. on: February 18, 2019, 10:10:46 PM
Your post wasn't profound enough such that you need to create a new thread about it getting deleted, that's for sure.  No idea why it got nuked, but this is going to happen from time to time on bitcointalk, and you're generally not going to get an explanation.

As far as it being "unfair", I would remind you that this is a private forum, and you aren't entitled to anything, nor am I or anyone else.  Posts can be deleted if a mod gets a report about them and agrees with it.  Sometimes mods might be wrong, but just suck it up and move on.
