Have you turned a decent profit doing it?
No, not really.

I don't think any Lightning Node Operator is doing any serious money... Most of us node-runners are just happy btc-maxi/plebs trying to learn/improve/strengthen the network.

Anyway, let's look at the numbers.
My routing fees totaled  227k sats
My re-routing costs was -130k sats
My open-channel-fees was -9k sats

That sums up to 88k. But taken into consideraion the on-chain transactions from my WalletOfSatoshi/Kraken/NiceHash accounts during this time it's more like 70k sats. 70k sats is at todays USD/BTC rate roughly worth 16 USD.

These numbers are without hardware/electricity costs as well, so no, I'm not really doing any money out of this...

thank you for follow up answer. I have been trying to find out how nodes are doing for guys like you.
7542  Other / Meta / Re: [Merit] Legendary To Newbies Distribution Concern & Problem! on: July 22, 2022, 01:34:51 AM
The question would be: what about newbies that do put in such effort, but are simply more interested in advanced cryptocurrency aspects, maybe especially in the realm of smart contracts and this sort of stuff. They might be easily overlooked since most long-time visitors of the forum just ignore the Altcoin section due to the sheer amount of spam to sift through.
Your concerns may be true about the situation on the Alternate cryptocurrencies board regarding the merit system, but actually I don't think the board is completely ignored by merit sources or other merit users. At least 101,174 merit have been distributed on the Alternate cryptocurrencies board since the merit system was introduced, and average 521 merit were distributed during January - June 2022 (not including July). The average sender was 122 users from January to June, and the average recipient was 167 users. The total of merit distributed on the Alternate cryptocurrency board from January to date is 3372 merit (including this month). Check here: https://public.tableau.com/shared/K38WY9Z2Y?:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link

Even if they don't care about merits at all, they will have a hard time finding people to talk to when it comes to these technical subjects, because Altcoin spammers have no clue (nor interest) about those topics and technical Bitcoin people stay in the much better moderated Bitcoin sections.
About this I agree.

Both of you cut out the point of my comments, My response was directed to LoyceV, who suggested what sounded like post jail for newbies on the altcoin discussion board, in which I provided some challenges such development would cost honest newbies.
Sorry about that, mate. While LoyceV has not responded to you. Grin

I gave 69 on that board Jan to July. Mostly because I mine BTC and Eth,LTC,Doge

I have to work hard to merit that board as there are huge amounts or poor content posts.

But since I do believe that alt pow coins are necessary for crypto I support the board.

One month in with my new lightning node, apparently I'm doing something right...

I have had a total of ~5k routing events after a month of running, transferring a total of 9.83 btc.

Have you turned a decent profit doing it?
7544  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Home Miner Group Buy / [G1 mini; Swiss Hosting] on: July 21, 2022, 11:25:13 PM
I will ask around for more usa people.

if you ship to USA the key is stay under 800 usd. so three packs work.

7545  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: July 21, 2022, 11:18:07 PM
yeah so glad we have the 280kwatt solar array under construction.

Late august early sept it will be running.

we have cheap power and lots of it.

biggest issue is cooling.

100 yesterday
  99 today
101 tomorrow
i think all plus 96 til tues then an 89

I will try posting a few youtube videos. of both rooms.

7546  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: July 21, 2022, 04:45:58 PM
well we are not following the 2018 difficulty runup pattern.

If we were the diff would be over 4t maybe 5t.

So that is one thing to like

time will tell how we handle the next four jumps.

if texas is truly cutting back we should have four good jumps up and coming.

maybe we will ne under 2.5 t by sept 10.
7547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How bad can it get? on: July 21, 2022, 02:11:48 AM
Down the road into a bear market what can a new miner except from a 500MH mining farm? How incredibly bad can this get? 5$? 8$? Asking those who are here before in 2018 so I can know what's awaiting me.

Lol if you are asking if crypto can straight slap ypu in the face it can ha!  Seriously there is no telling how bad prices and/or profitability of mining will get.  In 2015 it was straight brutal but those who stuck it out got paid nicely, same with other cycles.  Will this one be the same...maybe?  Honest answer is don't expect profits and just be gladly surprised if you do profit.  Have fun with it and be part of history.  Who knows..

Yeah I did okay and not okay and okay and not okay. Can't be sure what is next.
7548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Home Miner Group Buy / [G1 mini; Swiss Hosting] on: July 20, 2022, 11:13:03 PM
hmm let me think of a way for USA players to get in of this.

I am making dinner I will post back later.

edit
If they would sell me 3 at a time for 266 each I would be at 798. legally beats the higher import tax.

I can run a hundred of them. I have lots of power.

I would be willing to order a set of 3 to test and commit to more if I like them.

If they dont want to send me three at the discounted price . I could order 2 for 598.

not sure how well they run but the price is decent as is the efficiency.

I am tired of 3300 watt monster gear.
7549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Eth 2.0 can be delayed to 2024... on: July 20, 2022, 03:26:34 PM
The name of our coin is not yet decided, but it could be called The Sentient Coin. Because it is running a smarter and more secure Smart Network and need your hashing power..

well fingers crossed that it works well.

hmm I wonder if VB will attempt to fuck with you by delaying the pos move of eth for 2-3 months.

That would be interesting development to see.

also if eth does switch to pos in sept at say 2k coin price and tanks like a mofo to 800 people will be out for v.b

I will support mining over pos that is for sure.
7550  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: July 20, 2022, 03:23:40 PM
The adjustment will be tomorrow and the numbers look pretty good

The price has just crossed 24k, and the difficulty:

Quote
Latest Block:   745765  (8 minutes ago)
Current Pace:   94.9311%  (1862 / 1961.42 expected, 99.42 behind)
Next Difficulty Change:   between -4.9921% and -4.9644%
Next Retarget (earliest):   Tomorrow at 8:56 PM  (in 1d 2h 55m 56s)

We're looking at a 20% price increase from the start of the month and an incoming -5% adjustment after the previous -1.4%.
From the lowest point at 7cents per Th/s, we're slightly above 10 cents, this is a huge recovery,  a lot of employees in mining companies are probably also reducing their time spent on LinkedIn searching for a new job   Cheesy
Crisis averted, for now!

come on Texas keep the heat wave coming.

Yeah baby
7551  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Hopefully someone can help on: July 20, 2022, 12:55:01 AM
I have ordered from many many many many many sellers.

Over seas sellers and USA sellers.

I have had an ebay business since 2003

I have mined since 2012

I very likely have had 2500 packages sent to me since 2003.

Two or three were never delivered and I had 2 errors in my favor . This is out of 2500 packages

Maybe 3000  packages.

The errors were for a good router and for a good psu.

I both cases I got a 2x shipmint ie two boxes not one.

To get four 6000 plus packages sent which mean you owe over 7000 in import taxes is very hard to believe.

I suggest you make sure you do not get stuck the 30% import tax due on them.

good luck.
7552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: recommend me to start crypto mining on: July 19, 2022, 11:47:32 PM
Hi,

Advice me if i should start crypto mining or not in 2022?
if yes then can you recommend me list of hardware i should buy?
like 6 GPU board ? or 8 GPU?
i have in my mind 3080 and 3090.

Let me know please
These are inexpensive tested motherboards.
https://aliexpress.ru/popular/b75-motherboard-mining.html

New video cards, this is Nvidia 3060ti-3070. DO NOT take 3070ti, 3080 and 3090 series. AMD 6700-6800.
From the vulgar series, the RTX 2060 super and RTX 2070 video cards are very good.

Thank you, how about choosing the grahic card with very less noise ? which graphic card series best for noise reduction?

Get 3060ti cards

you can set them to 120 watts and drop the clock on ram just a bit will do 57mh but you can slow the fans to maybe 60% in a warmer spot.

then in colder spot boost the ram a bit and get 60mh with fans at 60 mh.

every 3060 ti i have has run in the 55-61 hash speed at 60 to 70% fan speeds.

look around for them.
7553  Other / Off-topic / Re: The way we act on the forum on: July 19, 2022, 11:38:39 PM
In this thread I was able to use some photos, edit, create and illustrate the way we act on the forum, ranging from all ranks but in a form of meme which could at least spicy your day, make you laugh and make you smile, because just like they always said “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. So this tread was created to put smile on your faces and illustrate some concepts in a different way, which I will be describing a bit about each as the list keeps unfolding.

7.   This illustrate that sad face we ironically keep when our posted thread gets no merit after 24hrs

18.   This illustrate that face most users keep when moderator deletes their post

I created all these myself, and I hope they are cool. Thanks

I liked 7 and 18 gave you 2 merits.
7554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Eth 2.0 can be delayed to 2024... on: July 19, 2022, 02:56:33 AM
well I will say this much. coinbase is feeding a lot with their stake 100 to 500 and get 10%

so we may see a strong move to staking.  maybe V.B. pulls this off.

or delays till Jan  Wink

7556  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cost to Mine 1 BTC in every country on: July 18, 2022, 10:21:41 PM
Thanks, I got the numbers! Really hard to mine if you don't have energy really cheap.

Yeah cheap power and luck are big factors if you want to mine at 20kwatts an hour or more. 20 watts is around 6 s19's which means it is out of reach for almost every homeowner.

and it is only earning 6 x 100 x 9.4 cents = $56.40 per day.  Before any and all costs.
7557  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 18, 2022, 03:57:04 PM
I think that you are reading Dabs too literally...

You are correct. Looking back, I think I had my train of thought interrupted while reading Dabs' post and took the final paragraph on its own.

which is holy fucking shit kind of bullshit that should bother you also Richy_T..)

Indeed it does. Interestingly, I am on a discord server and people were concerned about cameras transmitting data through Chinese controlled servers. However, when I brought up the Ring thing, they were OK with it. Apparently surveilance from people who are a lot closer to you and have the ability to come to your door and inflict violence against you is less concerning.

Problems with privacy here in USA.
No particular order.
Cell Phones unless you put them in a faraday shield.
Smart tvs
alexia
siri

ring is endless camera and sound surveillance.

I am stuck using ring 💍 due to my vascular dementia afflicted bro-in-law

I do not like all the surveillances in the USA.

Driving to my bro-in-law at 9:45 pm on a four lane empty road I got a ticket for driving 36 mph in a school zone speed 25.

Problem is all NewYorkCity is now a school zone and if a speeding camera catches you doing 11 miles about the 25 mph you get a 50 dollar ticket.

this is in effect from 5am to 10 am every day of the week.

Soon to be in effect 24/7/365

so yeah big bro is watching.

Current Pace:   99.3455%  (883 / 888.82 expected, 5.82 behind)

A lot has changed in the past 300-400 blocks, the current numbers are:

Current Pace:   95.6860%  (1237 / 1292.77 expected, 55.77 behind)
Previous Difficulty:   29570168636357.99

We know a good part (if not most) of this is due to power issues caused by the heatwaves in Texas, but this isn't sustainable, I think of this like the rainy season in China back then when miners had to shut down for a while when water levels go below a certain level, but it's only a matter of time to bring them back up, the only difference is that the Chinese back then moved their miners to different locations, as for now and with the size of the operations in Texas, they will not have a choice but to wait for the weather to cool down.
If most of it is Texas based the heat wave can last till early september.

so 15+31+4= 50 days

would be a welcome break for us miners.

well we are not down as much as I would like.

we dropped from 55 to 70 behind

we made 364 blocks should have done 379 blocks

that is just about 96% or -4% over last 2 ¾ days but price rallied a bit.

say +10%

this makes me think there are 2 factors.

Texas heat cut back still turning off miners.

and 19.5k vs 22.2k turns miners on.

Funny how we are just on the edge of a true mining bear market.

I think until they actually have it in the code and an actual block number for the merge fork, we can keep assuming its going to get delayed as usual. They always run into some issues and it always gets delayed.

This being a very major milestone, I think if there is any minor bug or issue they will have to postpone the fork. I remember a couple years back, there was suppose to be a fork. They found some minor bug a day prior to the fork and they decided to cancel the fork and it was post poned. ETH price didn't really get affected by much because everybody knows the eth devs take their time and are always delaying stuff.
price is now close to 1480

coinbase is giving a free upfront 10% bonus if you stake 100 to 500 bucks worth of eth.

that 10% is unlocked

ie give 500 in eth they hold that 500 for a long time til eth2 is fully setup.

but they issue you 50 worth of eth liquid instantly.

and you get 3% on the 500 they hold.

this is a big incentive to stake.

maybe they are trying to get what I would consider the right amount of eth to be staked.

Now think about the following you bought in on the first 60 million premined coins.

your cost was only 23 cents a coin.

buy into coinbase now and get 50 bucks worth of eth at current price.

yeah it is restricted to only 500 with a 50 dollar bonus. but I think a lot of money may flow into coinbase.

if this continues and eth pushes close to 2k with coinbase getting a million more coins maybe eth will do the switch sooner rather than later.
