7541  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex on: November 16, 2017, 05:49:50 AM
No one here can help you. Bittrex are having a lot of troubles lately... They have blocked hundreds (if not thousands) of accounts recently due to being forced to stop serving customers from specific countries due to legal requirements.

As such, their support workload has increased massively with everyone creating support tickets. Wait times have been as long as 2 months looking at some posts. Read the Bittrex threads here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0

Unfortunately, all you can do is log your ticket and wait. Sad
7542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Send BTC to a BCH wallet directly, no exchanging, not appearing now? Fix: on: November 16, 2017, 05:43:42 AM
It was a service wallet, not something hardware or software wise I completely control. Not sure if it would makea difference.
It possibly makes a big difference...

The important question is.. do you have access to the private keys for the BCH wallet? If you DON'T have the private key for the BCH address, you're pretty much screwed.

You will only be able to recover the BTC, by importing the BCH private key (for the BCH address you sent the BTC to), into a BTC wallet.

If it was an online service (like an exchange or webwallets)... Chances are you won't be able to get the private key... and your only hope will be if the one service can help. You'll need to contact the support for the service you are using and ask them for assistance.

If you do have access to the private keys, then as stated, import the private key into a BTC wallet... And the BTC should show up.
7543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: pywallet install help on: November 16, 2017, 05:28:30 AM
Step 1. Click Here: https://github.com/downloads/jackjack-jj/pywallet/PWI_0.0.3.exe

Step 2. Run the downloaded .exe file

Step 3. Extract the files. It is a "WinRAR autoextractor"... essentially a fancy "ZIP" file... that doesn't require you to have WinRAR or 7Zip or anything installed. Unfortunately, it also appears to be in French... basically, choose a directory where you want to extract the files to using the "Dossier de destination" (aka "Destination Folder") textbox... you can click the button to "Parcourir" (aka "Browse") to select the one you want using windows explorer. Then click the "Installer" button (aka "Install")... NOTE: "Annuler" = "Cancel".

Step 4. Run through the installation process, it will install some necessary utils and python stuff... so as the instructions say, click all the "Yes/Next/I Agree/Ok" buttons to install everything.

Step 5. Goto to the directory, that you selected in Step 3.

Step 6. run "pywallet.bat" (you can simply double click on it)... it'll open up a window and you'll see it "start up a server"... after you see the line: "Starting factory <twisted.web.server.Site instance..." move to the next step.

Step 7. Open the URL: http://localhost:8989/ in your webbrowser

That is very unclear to someone with limited computer knowledge.
What you are attempting to do (recover your wallet.dat using pywallet), is not really a "beginner" level exercise. The learning curve is going to be pretty steep. It is a bit like someone who has "limited jet engine knowledge"... attempting to disassemble and repair a jet engine. Undecided
7544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core on external harddrive - still uses computer PM-space? on: November 16, 2017, 04:45:02 AM
How are you determining that Bitcoin Core took "10 GB of your SSD drive"? Huh

Did you just check the free space and notice that it had dropped? What operating system are you using?
7545  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Warning about portable versions on: November 16, 2017, 04:39:23 AM
Thank you very much! I updated my portable version with your procedure although I read this thread and I am now worried about dangerous behaviour because it very easy to the wallet on infected computers.
The thing is, the only person in control of the "dangerous behaviour" is YOU.

Portable versions are only dangerous if you engage in risky activity and don't take adequate precautions... it's a bit like sex... if you sleep with random people and don't use condoms/birth control, there can be serious consequences (STDs/STIs... unwanted pregnancy etc)

Likewise with using a portable bitcoin wallet, you put your USB key into random computers without properly assessing the risks and making sure those computers are not infected with viruses/malware/keyloggers, there can be serious consequnces (loss of coins)
7546  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Multibit transfer funds to electrum - low fees- will it ever arrive? on: November 16, 2017, 04:22:55 AM
For the benefit of anyone else reading this thread, as I mentioned in PM... it appears that at some point (I suspect since v3.0.0) the options have changed ever so slightly in Electrum when importing/restore wallets...

Standard wallets are now ONLY for HD seeds or "Master" public/private keys (ie. xpubs/ypubs/zpubs or xprvs/yprvs/zprvs etc). As per the "Standard wallet -> Use public or private keys" option:

So now, you CANNOT import a single WIF format private key (ie. a "5", "L" or "K" Base58 encoded private key) if you select "Standard" wallet.

If your private key looks like:
5HsyUcGbVmbjpCfcjnSFV1D3GuxtfL5Jmk3ETa9L2zX4jKWe1Kj
L5GjoaFZmZAotojw7noR3qRF78FDEQsrPSLhbxZgvapxppQ5UUrG
KwVzGrfqFyrKyLVSjqYSvbv93Emh2BC1SUxrQHHm1nshTiNQ2Sre

When asked "What type of wallet you want to create?"... DO NOT select "Standard wallet"... you MUST select the LAST option ("Import bitcoin addresses or private keys"):

If you read the next dialog window properly... It'll say "Enter a list of Bitcoin address (this will create a watching-only wallet), OR a list of private keys.":

This does NOT mean a list of private keys will make a watching wallet... it means you enter either a list of addresses, which will create the watching-only wallet... OR you can enter a list of private keys (which will create a normal spending wallet, even though it is not explicitly stated... I've tested it Wink)

7548  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: lost BTC during use of electron cash on: November 15, 2017, 07:20:28 PM
Probably has not a lot to do with your choice of bitcoin/bitcoin cash wallet... and a lot to do with keyloggers/malware etc... Undecided

Whatever the cause, it is a good example of why people suggest moving BTC off of any private keys BEFORE attempting to claim the BCH or other fork coins from them... exposing your private key to an online environment puts coins at risk.
7549  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano ledger S is hacked or not hack !? on: November 15, 2017, 06:43:50 PM
Do you have an "orange" Nano S? Is the casing orange in colour?

If so, that is your issue... Apparently these are special editions and can't be updated:

If you have a special edition Nano S (orange casing), you can not update your device.
7550  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano ledger S is hacked !!! on: November 15, 2017, 01:53:34 PM
Are you trying to update the actual device firmware or update the Bitcoin "app" using Ledger Manager?

With the "Ledger Manager" Chrome app... plug in the Ledger, enter your PIN etc... click "applications". The manager app will give the list of all the available apps:

Delete the "Bitcoin" app by clicking the grey trashcan icon... Then reinstall the Bitcoin app, by clicking the green "download arrow" icon.

It should say version 1.1.9 or higher... If not, you might need to update the chrome app
7551  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Paper recovery shows 0 balance on: November 15, 2017, 01:42:54 PM
Is that paper backup actually generating the same addresses that have your balance? Or is it generating completely different addresses?

Also, have you checked those addresses on a block explorer?
7552  Other / MultiBit / Re: Step by step guide to get BBC from MultibitHD? on: November 15, 2017, 09:04:52 AM
Hi, firstly thanks for replying.
Secondly i already tried the m/0' solution i found here somewhere, and i still end up with 0.BCH when the wallet loads up,
eventhough i have BTC stored in those seeds for around one year(never moved).
Any idea why it would show up empty?
If seed 100% works in MBHD, it could Possibly be a "gap limit" issue? MBHD has default of 50-100 i think, Electrum has 20. Plus, I vaguely remember that MultiBit HD would "generate" a new receive address every time you click on the receive tab, regardless of whether or not the  previous address had actually been used. So it could simply be a case of your coins being in addresses out past  Electrum's default gap limit of 20.

Restore the seed into Electrum, BIP39, dpath of m/0'

Then: "View -> show console", click the "console" tab and enter the following two commands:
Code:
wallet.change_gap_limit(100)
wallet.storage.write()
see if your coins show up... if they do, great, do the same thing in ElectronCash.

If they dont , try same commands with 200 Wink

Hello, i have the same issue with electrum, it shows 0. mBTC.
However if i use the same passphrase with multibit it shows me my correct amount of BTC.
I do however had it password protected and i have some numbers with / to
like for example 1234/56 i don't know what that is for, but i wrote it down next to my seed also so it must be of some importance.
Hope you can help my in figuring out what is wrong.

you mean the seed had an extra password attached? if so, try using the "extend seed with extra word" option during seed entry... and enter your password there.

The numbers are specific to MBHD, they basically represent the wallet creation date and are used by MBHD to speed up transaction scanning after a restore... basically it wont look for transactions BEFORE the wallet was first created.
7553  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano ledger S is hacked !!! on: November 15, 2017, 04:57:28 AM
I bought the original Nano ledger S and was hacked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I confirm my transaction with a button on Nano Ledger S, I have to confirm the transaction at a hacker address with a certain amount of btc.
Welcome to August/September 2017... Roll Eyes

Firstly, relax... your Ledger Nano S HAS NOT been "hacked"!

It was a "minor" UI issue with the Ledger due to the wallet being updated for SegWit etc... All it is asking you to do is confirm Output #2 for the transaction which is a "change" address in your wallet! Have a read here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/6zgy1x/nano_s_asks_to_confirm_change_output_when_sending/
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/6yn99h/ledger_nano_s_output2/
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/6wws8e/comfirm_output_2/

For reference, "btchip" on reddit is the "Ledger CTO"... they know what they're talking about. Wink

This issue should have been resolved if you update the "Bitcoin" app to at least version 1.1.9 on the Nano S using the Ledger Wallet Manager (https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/manager)
7554  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I sent BCH (split) to BTC (segwit) on my Ledger Nano S, but i did not receive it on: November 15, 2017, 04:47:44 AM
Theoretically... it should be possible to create a transaction to recover your BCH that has been sent to a SegWit address... refer: https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/6z56x3/attention_benevolent_bch_miners_a_bch/

There are a number of problems associated with this, one of the big ones, as the OP of that thread explains ("More Problems" section), is that by creating and broadcasting that transaction, it would be possible for someone to then take the "hash" from the broadcast transaction and create their own transaction using that hash which sends the coins where they want it to go in "double spend"...

I have no idea what the likelihood of that happening is... but given there is a chance it could happen, I'd also wager that people are scanning the people for these types of transactions Tongue

As far as I'm aware, at this point in time... it isn't possible to get those BCH from a SegWit address... but it MIGHT be possible at some point in the future.
7555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: I just downloaded a bitcoin android mobile wallet. Where is my private key? on: November 15, 2017, 03:52:00 AM
I downloaded a file explorer it found it but it is asking me to "complete action using." I dont know which program to use to open the file. I also was able to access the file by connecting the phone to the computer but dont know how and what program to open it with. when i connected it to the computer and opened it using a word doc it just gave me several pages of number and letter text.
You can't just open the file and expect to see what you're looking for... it is an encrypted backup file... that's the whole point! Tongue

Now that you have a copy of the backup file on your PC, you go and do this if you want your seed and/or private keys: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2362195.msg24205943#msg24205943

7556  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Private keys on: November 15, 2017, 03:47:55 AM
Just adding... that if you do this (ie. enter your Trezor seed into your computer)... you should consider that Trezor seed compromised... and take appropriate action to generate a new seed for your Trezor and move all your coins to it as soon as possible.

You will have dramatically reduced the "security" of all the wallets/addresses/coins that are using your current seed if you enter that seed into any other wallet software. It is supposed to be written on a piece of paper and stored safely OFFLINE for a reason! Wink
7557  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BCC/BCH Late claim of bcc with electrum/eletron wallet! on: November 15, 2017, 03:42:35 AM
No sure why Electron Cash keeps crashing... you'd need to talk to the ElectronCash Devs (I'd suggest logging an issue on their GitHub issue tracker here: https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues)

It'll likely be related to this issue here: https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/236

Also, the reason it won't work when using the "private keys"... is that a 2FA wallet is generated from a combination of multiple (ie. three) private keys... and when you use the "export" feature in Electrum, it'll only show you one of those three keys for any given address... when you import that one private key into another wallet, it cannot possibly generate the same addresses, as you're missing two of the private keys.
7558  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BCH and BTC - Still a danger of replay attacks? on: November 15, 2017, 03:29:21 AM
Even without replay protection you can first easily split your coins before starting sending/"claiming" any coins.
Its not like replay attacks are kinda destroying btc. Neither its a danger which comes hidden.
"Replay attack" basically is just to rebroadcast your transaction on the other chain. If you start splitting your coins you start with sending
your more valuable coins (btc in this case) to an address you (and only you) have control of. From now on your BTC are safe. And only this TX can be
rebroadcasted (which is kind of senseless for an attacker to send your bch to an address you own).
AFterwards you can start importing your private keys into an BCH wallet.
To not get confused by an "attacker", who is aming for chaos, you then send your BCH to a new address.

Afterwards there is no more risk to an "replay attack".
That's not exactly true in ALL fork situations... it works with BCH because they implemented full 2-way replay protection... but imagine if S2X had gone ahead with no replay protection... you try this and send your coins to yourself thinking, great, now I'm safe... and then send those "split" coins to someone else... Thief then just rebroadcasts the whole chain of transactions (ie. BOTH transactions you've made) and boom, your coins are now gone.

It isn't just a simple case of "send to yourself", it is a LOT more complicated than that... you need to start generating transactions that use inputs which don't exist on the other chain to make it impossible for that transaction to be valid on the other chain. The "easiest" way to achieve that is to get hold of coins that come from a "coinbase" transaction (ie. the block reward, NOT the exchange with the same name)

Splitting coins when there is no replay protection is NOT for the uninformed or technically challenged... it is complicated and exposes you to potential loss of coins on both sides of the fork.

In the case of BCH (and other forks with replay protection)... moving your BTC is not "splitting" them... they're automatically split because of the replay protection. What you're doing is just putting them onto different private keys, so that if the fork wallet you use is "evil" and steals your seed/keys... only your fork coins are at risk.

In this case, having some technical knowledge is pretty much essential for the safety of your coins, because you have to trust that the Electron Cash (or some other software that you choose to download) is safe.  While it is open source, it's signed by anonymous developers, so a malicious version could theoretically be introduced.  That's why it could potentially be risky to install it on an airgapped PC.
Isn't that the whole point of the Airgapped PC... it doesn't just stop things getting IN... it stops things getting OUT as well?
7559  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Multibit transfer funds to electrum - low fees- will it ever arrive? on: November 15, 2017, 03:07:31 AM
Do you "keys" look like long strings of random characters that start with a "5", an "L" or a "K"... like this:

5HsyUcGbVmbjpCfcjnSFV1D3GuxtfL5Jmk3ETa9L2zX4jKWe1Kj
L5GjoaFZmZAotojw7noR3qRF78FDEQsrPSLhbxZgvapxppQ5UUrG
KwVzGrfqFyrKyLVSjqYSvbv93Emh2BC1SUxrQHHm1nshTiNQ2Sre

or do they look like something else? Huh

WARNING: DO NOT post your private keys here!!

If they do NOT start with a "5", an "L" or a "K"... then you are exporting them incorrectly. You should NOT be exporting with a password, otherwise the file will likely be encrypted and you'll just see text like this:

The output file should look like this:

If that isn't how your output file looks, maybe you should make a copy of your .wallet file... and then open it using the last version of MultiBit Classic v0.5.19 - https://multibit.org/release-info/classic/v0.5.19.html

Then try exporting your "keys" using v0.5.19... remember, DO NOT password protect the export file.

Also, when copying the keys from that file to paste into Electrum, DO NOT copy the date and time at the end! Wink
7560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent a large amount of bitcoin with low transaction fee. on: November 15, 2017, 02:15:07 AM
I also just sent two transactions of Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
As far as I'm aware... there are no "accelerator" services available for BCH... I though that was the whole point behind 8meg blocks! Tongue Roll Eyes

transactions shouldn't get stuck because the blocks aren't like to be full, so miners will just include ALL available transactions.
