761  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: February 15, 2024, 05:27:18 PM
They mentioned in one of their replies "they have to keep it till it ships", but on an older post, they pointed to the automated data blanking happening "120 days after the shipping process has taken place"!
The last paragraph on that image is the most important one. Although Coinkite might be deleting the data just like they say they do, their partners and 3rd-parties do things differently and probably don't take such actions. It's also worth asking how much of their work and processes is Coinkite outsourcing to 3rd-parties? Remember the Trezor hack from not that long ago. It was caused by Trezor outsourcing their customer support platform to an outside party, which then got hacked, leaking the data that it kept.
762  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I don't understand why do I have two addresses for the same account on: February 15, 2024, 05:02:42 PM
I am not using Ledger so I am going to compare it with Electrum, when user wants to spend funds from their wallet they can use the default way of selecting the inputs or as you said by using coin control they can use which UTXO they want to include.
Ledger Live does have coin control, but it isn't done in a good and user-friendly way. In Electrum, you can simply go to the 'Coins' tab and select one or more coins to spend from. In Ledger Live, you can't select individual UTXOs in that way. When you activate the coin control feature, you see a list of all UTXOs associated to that bitcoin wallet. They are all pre-selected by default. You have to manually untick those you don't want to use and leave a tick for those you want. It isn't that big of a problem if you have a small number of coins, but imagine a wallet with 50 or 100 different UTXOs.

That's how it was when I last tested LL's coin control feature. I haven't updated the software in a long time, I can't rule out that they made this feature better in the meantime.
763  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US Government wants your Bitcoin Miners!? on: February 15, 2024, 04:43:39 PM
Does taxation only apply to crypto mining companies? Or home mining as well? I fail to see how the US will be able to tax someone mining at their basement.
I am not from the US, so I don't know anything about the regulations regarding mining bitcoin for private entities. But I am pretty sure that it's your responsibility to report to the IRS any income that you receive or generate. Bitcoin falls into one such category that you have to report. If you don't do it, maybe nothing will happen and nobody will find out. It's like failing to report any other taxes. Maybe the IRS won't notice or maybe they will and you will be facing penalties and possibly jail time.

One miner could go unnoticed. Having your whole basement equipped with ASICs will probably raise some alarms about what you are spending your electricity on and why your bills are so high. You could get raided if the authorities mistaken your home for a marihuana lab.
764  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ SCAM ALERT ] Blackjack.Fun is a cheap Scammer on: February 15, 2024, 04:34:09 PM
Blackjack.fun owner scammed me!
You are living in imaginationland where you pull the strings deciding who does what for you and how. In the real world, things work a bit differently. In the real world, you were offered the money that you are owed, but you turned it down. You still do it even today. In your imagination, someone giving you what you are owed is a scammer because they are not dancing to the music you like to play.

I will say it again and again until he pays what he owes me (and it is only peanuts)! But since he cannot buy me, he has to give it as a donation!
No, he doesn't have to do anything! You do with your money as you please. All he has to do is to return it to you, which remains an impossible task because of your reluctance to accept it.
765  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [Tutorial] BlueWallet - Bitcoin Wallet Discussion on: February 14, 2024, 05:54:11 PM
However, the other day I came across the fact that the wallet does not accept Taproot privatekey.  And accordingly, this functionality is missing.  Is there any information whether the Bluewallet devs are planning to finally add the full functionality of Taoroot, as is done in many other wallets.
A request to introduce support for Taproot was made as early as 2021, and it's still not there. I have personally never used it, and I am not sure what benefits it will give you if you are not going to use a multisig setup. I know that Muun wallet is one mobile wallet that supports Taproot. Check it out if you are interested. But take note that they do things a bit differently, and don't have the standard recovery phrases we are used to see in other bitcoin wallets.
766  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Certificate Renewal or Man-in-the-middle attack? on: February 14, 2024, 05:38:09 PM
I do not own electrum.diynodes.com and have never heard of it until the popup that I received.
Then there is no reason that you have to stick with that electrum.diynodes server that is causing those Sparrow error messages. Go into the settings menu and pick a different one. If you have plans to run your own Bitcoin Node, you don't have to worry about Electrum servers anymore, as you are going to be using the Bitcoin Core client.
767  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I don't understand why do I have two addresses for the same account on: February 14, 2024, 05:31:26 PM
Ledger Live will never display and generate 10 new addresses in one Bitcoin account. To make it as simple as possible, it only shows one unfunded address each time you click on the receive bitcoin button. And, it will always be the same one until you send some BTC to it. If you want multiple new addresses at once, you are going to have to connect your Ledger with Electrum. Then, you'll always have access to 20 new and unfunded BTC addresses at once with default settings. This can be adjusted according to your needs.

Don't think of bitcoin as a total count in your balance. Let's use your example with 100 BTC. 100 + 100 equals 200 BTC, but those are two different UTXOs. They are separate coins, regardless if you deposit them into the same address or two different ones. If one day you want to spend 150 BTC, you are going to have to use both of your 100 BTC coins in a new transaction.
768  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ SCAM ALERT ] Blackjack.Fun is a cheap Scammer on: February 14, 2024, 05:19:57 PM
The OP of this scam accusation has failed to prove that a scam happened, and so I see no reason to support their claims for the time being. But I do believe that they are misleading their players by showing a wrong license logo. If they don't change it, I will PM the casino admin and ask them to comment about their license information and why they are still displaying the wrong one. If they don't want to take any action and make changes to their site, I will tag them afterwards.
769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US Government wants your Bitcoin Miners!? on: February 14, 2024, 05:02:03 PM
1: They want to tax Bitcoin mining activities,  to make money from the business to sort out their debt.
Bitcoin mining is already taxed in the United States according to whatever law exists in the jurisdiction the mining operation is located. Mining companies pay taxes like any other business ventures, they aren't exempt from it. Plus, the companies are registered as being mining operations, so there is already a paper trail of what they are doing.
770  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is it possible to convert WIF to seed phrases (BIP39)? on: February 13, 2024, 07:23:01 PM
Isn't WIF already in "easy to copy, easy to write" format with confusing characters omitted since it's in BASE58;
And it's not long either; the common 12-word seed phrase is even longer than it even with the spaces removed.
It's still a long string of characters and numbers that make no apparent sense to the human eye in the format they are written it. Even if a recovery phrase is longer, it's made up of familiar words you have seen thousands of times, making it easy to back up and even remember if you are into mind tricks. Making a physical backup of a WIF key still requires more patience not to mess something up as it can have devastating consequences if you do.
771  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Certificate Renewal or Man-in-the-middle attack? on: February 13, 2024, 06:59:31 PM
I would suggest going to the server settings and finding a different server to connect to. If you don't see the same error message, it's safe to say that there is an error message with that electrum.diynodes.com server. If you can change the server and there is no reason which you aren't telling us about that makes you use that particular one, just pick a different one.

Is it safe to connect my cold storage to my computer and/or conduct a transaction?
That depends on what you mean with cold storage? Are we talking about a hardware wallet or some airgapped machine you intend to bring online? It stops being cold storage if the private keys touch an internet-connected computer. So, please pay attention to what you are doing to not reduce the security of your setup.
772  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you have a hard time bringing new people to the forum? on: February 13, 2024, 06:45:02 PM
As for me, I tried to talk few good irl friends into coming back to forum or registering for the first time. Those who used to be active didn't want to come back as in their opinion bitcointalk became one big signature campaign circlejerk, while those who didn't register before checked it out a bit and concluded that nothing important happens here and instead they are focus mainly on Twitter and Telegram. In the end I gave up and I don't mention bitcointalk to anyone.
The new TikTok-brain generations don't have the attention span to participate in a forum discussion. That's also something worth taking into consideration. They didn't grow up with a resource of information where you had to read 20-30 posts from other people before engaging normally. They don't want to do that. Their interests lie in short content with small amounts of text where a tweet is the perfect length. Attention-grabbing headlines, a few pictures or a video and that's it.
773  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ SCAM ALERT ] Blackjack.Fun is a cheap Scammer on: February 13, 2024, 06:11:52 PM
<Snip>
I wonder if their reluctance to remove the Curacao logo is reason enough to give them a negative trust rating?! They are intentionally lying about their license without showing signs that they will correct it. What's more, they have locked their ANN thread on Bitcointalk, showing once again that they aren't interested in communicating with the community. Besides the Curacao logo, Blackjack.Fun also has a Provably Fair logo at the bottom of their website. It's a different matter, but worth checking if the site is provably fair or not. If it isn't, they are again guilty of providing false information and lying.
774  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have you met this kind of investors? on: February 13, 2024, 06:05:21 PM
Knowledge is power they say, but only for those who seek them, there are many things to understand when getting into Bitcoin, even while I understand the basics, I could not tell the difference between a custodial and non custodial Bitcoin wallet, which lead me into loosing some Bitcoin, like I've said, if I knew this forum as I started my Bitcoin journey it would have saved me a lot of troubles.
That sort of knowledge and information can be learned on Bitcointalk. I am not saying it can't or shouldn't. But I am saying that this isn't the only place to learn those things. There are other beginner-oriented resources where you can learn about custodial and non-custodial wallets and everything you need for proper bitcoin storage. You can even get it on YouTube by watching videos. Or if you got introduced to Bitcoin by a friend/relative, that's the sort of thing I would expect them to explain to you.
775  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: February 12, 2024, 05:23:39 PM

'ć' i slovo i glas kojeg nema u mnogim drugim jezicima.
776  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: February 12, 2024, 05:01:10 PM

A možda icopress primi i nekoliko dodatnih novih članova.
We have 1 slot for Sr rank (possibly several).

We have 1 slot for Sr rank / I will not review your application if you submitted it in the wrong form.

Just.
Update:
Campaign is on Hold. Sorry mates. Please remove the signature and avatar.

BullBear.Fun kampanja je završena poslje 2 tjedna:
As expected and previously announced, this is the end of the campaign. If anything changes, I'll update here.

You are free to remove the signature and avatar.
777  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Staking kriptovaluta on: February 12, 2024, 04:50:06 PM

778  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies be aware, don't fall into the trap of getting high ROI in Bull Market on: February 12, 2024, 04:40:29 PM
Scammers are lazy and they do lazy traps by repititions with similar methods as they only do batch scam and they don't need to get 100% success rate.
They are lazy because the little effort they put in is usually enough to get a satisfactory number of victims fall for their schemes and make them money. The scams worked in the past and they still work today. There will always be new internet users browsing the web with not enough knowledge about how to protect themselves. There will also be new elderly people who have no one to protect them who will fall for scams because they use their hearts when making decisions. It's a sad reality.
779  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ SCAM ALERT ] Blackjack.Fun is a cheap Scammer on: February 12, 2024, 04:32:08 PM
It definitely gives confidence to a customer if they see the platform they are gambling on is registered and licenced somewhere. For me personally, the Curacao licence is worthless and pointless because it is being used by the majority of businesses for the very same reason I have cited but nevertheless at least casinos can be held to some sort of account if victims report them to the Curacao authorities.
I wouldn't call it worthless. It's better than nothing, but it's obviously nowhere close to the quality and requirements of the Malta Gaming Authority, Kahnawake Gaming Commission, or the UK Gambling Commission. The common person doesn't really know the difference. To them, it's just the name of a brand and logo they see on casino websites. And like I mentioned previously, the Curacao brand is a widespread one, making it a familiar sight.
780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US Government wants your Bitcoin Miners!? on: February 12, 2024, 04:26:04 PM
America needs crypto-friendly politicians that will benefit the industry in the long run.
There is no such thing as crypto-friendly politicians on a large scale. Politicians represent the interest of private businesses, big tech, pharma, etc., and these giants aren't interested and don't need bitcoin or crypto. They don't mind profiting from you and me using it, but they don't represent self-custody and any type of increase in personal freedoms.
