761  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-10-12] World’s First National Digital Currency Trials in Ecuador on: October 13, 2014, 04:39:26 AM
Stole it since I saw the grue note

Ecuador will soon begin trials with the world’s first national digital currency.  They are the first nation to agree officially to implement it’s own digital currency as a state-supported national system of finance. The Central Bank of Ecuador has set up a trial version to begin later this month, and continue through mid-November 15th.

762  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-10-11] Dell Becomes Bitcoin Mining Data Center Provider on: October 13, 2014, 04:37:08 AM
Sounds like a good deal
When there is space to spare and its not being used may as well utilize it for Bitcoins  Wink

Bitcoin ASIC has a three-year deal with Dell to act as an exclusive reseller of excess capacity in the data center, he said. This means the hosting company has 4 megawatts of capacity at its disposal.

Bitcoin ASIC does not focus on large “industrial” miners. Many of its customers are individuals with one or two boxes they need a place for.

Smart Idea can see some self miners wanting to put theirs in a facility if it scales is the question

I currently value 1 BTC at the market price of 400
That said I want a higher price closer to 2000 ideally myself
765  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Columbia student Emma Sulkowicz vows to carry mattress around university on: October 05, 2014, 09:28:18 AM
Thought this might be in need of an update
Here are the results (Nothing)

Parents of Columbia University student who accused classmate of rape rip school for lack of action

Senior Emma Sulkowicz is carrying around a mattress to protest the school's inaction in her case. Her parents criticized the 'prolonged, degrading and ultimately fruitless process' in an open letter to the Columbia Spectator.

In an open letter to the Columbia Spectator published on Thursday, doctors Sandra Leong and Kerry J. Sulkowicz ripped the school for its "prolonged, degrading and ultimately fruitless process" regarding their daughter's case.

"If Columbia remains passive in the face of Emma’s suffering, and does not attempt to rectify the injustice done to her, survivors at Columbia will feel discouraged from entrusting themselves to the system that Columbia has recently worked so hard at putting into place," the parents write in the letter

(Still carrying the mattress)

If the NYDN wants to carry a story like this, they should also include facts that readers might find relevant. The young lady in question did not file a police complaint until long after reporting the alleged rape to Columbia, and she only did that 9 months after the fact. Consequently, there is no physical evidence and there are also no witnesses to the alleged rape. I believe rapists should face severe penalties, but not without proof. There seems to be none here aside from she-said-he-said.
766  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tight Credit? Why Ben Bernanke Couldn’t Refinance His Mortgage on: October 05, 2014, 09:22:54 AM
Nice when Ben Bernanke is not living within his means that becomes an interesting article
Chairman of the Federal Reserve denied a loan  Grin
Well ex abstensia since he did step down in January (But Ben's good for it guess the law kind of nipped him in the butt)
__
One thing that may have changed for Mr. Bernanke besides his employment situation: His loan might be too big to qualify for government backing. The Journal reported in 2011 that he owed $672,000 on his mortgage after refinancing it that September. The refinance closed days before the conforming loan limit—the maximum amount that qualifies for backing from Fannie and Freddie—in the Washington, D.C., area dropped to $625,500, from the previous limit of $729,750.

One day you will recieve a letter along the lines of

Dear Sir/Madam
We noticed from our analytic scans that you are over our prescribed weight limit for your coverage since we the government care about your health and well being we will give you funds to go exercise, if you do not comply or wish to do so then we will remove you from health coverage or you will be asked to pay a higher premium based on your BMI index risk of launching a claim.
773  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is Value of 1 BTC in end of Year ? on: September 16, 2014, 01:23:06 AM
Depends on how much red bureaucratic tape the governments around the world put on it  Grin
If they have their way red tape choking it down to 400 dollars
If someone can break through the tape well enough 1000-2000 dollars
774  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie All-Day - Ask All Your Bitcoin Questions Here! on: September 16, 2014, 01:18:59 AM
Going to throw another one in here

Lets say someone wants to start a company in Bitcoin that purchases products from Amazon or something like that using Gift Cards (Basically any service that does not accept Bitcoin yet)
That way the user can use Bitcoin to purchase said product, they enter their delivery address and send the Bitcoins to the service and the service provider fulfills their order for them.

Based on the current regulatory frameworks around Bitcoin would that consist a form of money laundering and how would someone be able to prove that they are not taking (in the sense of the term) Illegal Bitcoins from someone and then shipping the product.
Basically how would you make it complaint without going through an AML/KYC process similar to that of a normal bitcoin/fiat exchange, and needed to register for an expensive Money Service Business License.

Or would you be in a legal grey area
(I like throwing in hard ones ^^)

And not taking it as legal advice I wanted to hear an opinion as an example of a utility case.
775  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Are AML and KYC legitimate laws? on: September 16, 2014, 01:09:21 AM
AML and KYC Laws are giant pains in the Arse

To be honest a lot of good businesses could be built around bitcoin if the regulatory framework was more admissable towards these type of developments
As it stands now if you want to provide a Bitcoin service that ships something to a consumer be it a product good or service you need a very expensive license else you will be a possible target for money laundering.

(even if you have all these documents the cost to register on their list is large)
So going fully compliant just means a great pita on something that might not even make ROI and months to years for it to process through till your officially licensed and going under a compliant but not registered plan puts risks on you since there are no real low cost alternatives to run a legitimate operation.

I guess that's it. No more comments. Everyone's thrown in the towel...

By the looks of it that is what happened
Since the thread has been quiet for the last few days and nothing of interest has happened in the meantime.
