I am borderline retarded when it comes to computers.

That's because your fatness doesn't let you get closer to the computers...

Which is why I rest a trackball mouse and keyboard on my belly.
762  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700: It's not real. on: December 27, 2011, 01:16:35 AM
You guys didn't give BFL a chance.  From day one on the original thread you were accusing them of being scammers.

Because we didn't believe their claims. And we were right. There is no 1GH/s, 20w, $700, miner.

after taking 2 days to read all the threads....  give em a break that was before the POC.  now it is 800+ at 80w. still awesome! with a good chance at 60-70W with the better psu

No, POC is still 4-6 weeks from delivery...just like three months ago. I could get you some (READ: ONLY TWO UNITS HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO EXIST) friggin' FPGAs built if you gave me thousands of dollars and a few months, and I am borderline retarded when it comes to computers.

They did drop the leveraging from 5:1 to 2:1, IIRC. There is always uncertainty in predicting the future, and businesses exist to make themselves money, not to make you money.

They actually increased leverage to 10:1.

The real issue here is that their previous quote history is not public.

The reason my data isn't complete is that there is no way to get the full quote history.

Someone simply checking the charts provided would not see the spikes as these show averages.

Wow...that's sort of crazy leverage. I thought they scaled it back.

I get what you are saying now. I have never tried to look at their charts, but I assumed it would be somewhat transparent.

tl;dr bitcoinicas quote algo screws leveraged users

I'll start off this post with some full disclosure.  I am Patrick from Intersango so take what I have with whatever size grain of salt you would like.

I have been warning people against trading on margin in general for a long time now, because the market is really very thin (yes even on MtGox).

This post is specifically about the quoted prices on bitcoinica. While they are reasonably close to market rate most of the time they remain in the complete control of bitcoinica. (I'm sure most of you already understand this)

They employ an algorithm which is clearly taking into account market velocity to protect themselves from falling behind the market, I can understand why they do this, really it makes perfect sense from their perspective; however this results in spikes which force liquidations which are really not necessary.

I only have detailed information for about 15 days, but if the relatively small amount of data I have shows this behaviour I can only imagine it would be even more clear in a longer data series.

So...make a better algorithm. This is obviously the best that's available right now.

I am a member of NORML IRL so I think this is absolutely fantastic! Donated some coins!

It's the first time FlipPro and I have ever agreed on anything!  Cheesy

I am not saying you have to stop illegally selling drugs, you do what you want to do.

I just think for the sake of this forum, this thread should be closed because it could get the forum taken down/seized/blocked in the US, if a DEA agent didn't like what he saw.

I fail to see how letting the drug dealer stay on his corner is benefiting the forum community in comparison with the liability that comes with it.

Can you quote some precedent to your proposed scenario?

flaxceed, sorry for derailing, but I stand in support of you.

Butterflylabs, is it for real?

That is the topic. The point of this thread was to see if you are for real. The questions asked were very on topic and related. Asking very reasonable questions is not trolling. The smart people asking questions are known to other forum members as being reasonable and educated on the topic. Your calling us trolls does not make it so.

Also keep in mind, this is not your personal thread. You had the option to make your own thread to give out information. Please read the topic again...

I am not shocked about your strategy of fleeing. If you do not have answers it is safer for you not to give any.

Best of luck in life and Merry Christmas.

I mean, I have no skin in the game so I am kind of trolling, but sheeeit...I think I have made some valid points.
770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you want in a new Bitcoin Exchange? on: December 26, 2011, 04:10:52 AM
If there are exchanges with these features right now I will divert all Bitcoinica volume into it. And it will have at least 25% of market volume.

Damn, that is quite the dangling carrot. Someone get on it!
771  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x 5770 or 6870? on: December 26, 2011, 03:59:59 AM
option 4

try to get a 5970!   720Mhash from one card and crush any game!

edit:  you can get 5970's for 300 usd

crushing any game is a wild overstatement.

Thank you for gracing us with your presence to partially answer questions for two weeks in a thread that has been running for three months.

You didn't show up with real responses to the questions posed until the cat was out of the bag on your claims being bullshit. Perhaps in the future you could interact with your clientele in a context outside damage mitigation.

Anyways, merry christmas. I look forward to your product hitting the market. Once it is here and proven functional and reliable, I am sure you will have more orders than you can handle (>2).
773  Other / Off-topic / Re: NORML Needs You! on: December 26, 2011, 03:55:36 AM
Ha. I am down with whatever.

I just wanted to throw ASA out there. A lot of people have never heard of them, yet they have done more for patient rights than NORML ever could dream of accomplishing.

I'll pen you in at (5). Interesting fact you present there. I'm going to do my best to get both on board. Whatever it takes to help spread the word on Bitcoin.

~Bruno~

I am sure I am overstating it, I just have never seen NORML at any city council meetings or protests, whereas ASA has been there every time, lawyers and clinical research in hand, ready to fight politicians who think they can interpret the law however they please. I bet NORML does plenty, I just haven't seen it.

It is a small town in north UK, but I don't want to do a log grep search. So others can use it as a hint.

Are you telling me that the location could be found via a log grep search, even though it's a cropped screenshot, put into another file, renamed, all prior to posting it on Flickr?

I can see how that could be used to find the color of RandyFolds underwear, but not this image. Prove me wrong!

Underwear? You assume too much, good sir.

Has anybody actually received a shipping product?
Shipments with the upgraded power subsystem are slated to start in January. As far as I know, no units have been shipped yet.

@BFL: can you provide more detail? For those who already have orders, when do you expect to ship their units (approximately; I realize unforeseen circumstances between now and then can alter that estimate)?

Hi Epoch, please email me directly for updated delivery details.  office @ butterflylabs . com

Regards,
BFL

Why not put it on your website? It's a pretty important piece of information for both current and potential customers.
777  Other / Off-topic / Re: NORML Needs You! on: December 26, 2011, 01:50:37 AM
I am in for a few BTC, but may I suggest Americans for Safe Access rather than NORML? I donate annually to both organizations, but ASA is a much more effective organization when it comes down to patients and protecting their rights. I have had the pleasure of meeting Steph Sherer on a number of occasions and he is an incredible guy aside from being an incredible activist.

4-6 weeks, man. Just like it was in October.

I think everyone is aware of that. Unfortunately, that is not the case across the board. Maybe you destroyed math, but biology kicks your ass. Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe English is your crux. No one is a master of all trades.

On a level field, what I said before stands. Listening, understanding, and getting a C is superior to regurgitating for an A, IMHO.
