GOAL = $420 USD   (100.601212 BTC)        PLEDGED TO DATE = $140.49 USD (34.9656789 BTC)

Fire Up the Green!

BitcoinPorn has expressed that Bitcoin100 consider adding NORML to the list of charitable organizations destined to be contacted. That has been done.

But, because of the sensitive nature of NORML's stance, I find it prudent to thread lightly with its inclusion. Surely, there'll be no objections in trying to get NORML to include a Bitcoin donation option onto its website, but it may be unwise to have the supporters of Bitcoin100 spearhead the campaign in having to do such.

The best solution I can muster up is to create, then maintain, a separate thread, a place where supporters of NORML can come and pledge bitcoins. The goal is exactly $420 USD when exchanged from BTC. Once that is accomplished, then we will reach out to NORML with a pledge of exactly $420 USD in hand. Remember, this is only a pledge, with no bitcoins donated into any wallet. If NORML shows interest then, and only then, we would start having the pledges honored.

NOTE: One doesn't have to be a member of Bitcoin100 to pledge to NORML on this thread.

Feel free to ask any questions in regards to this endeavor.

The Pledge List:

1. Phinnaeus Gage (10)
2. BitcoinPorn (1)
3. sadpandatech (2)
4. MoonShadow (2)
5. GoWest (2.3456789)
6. mcorlett (1)
7. RandyFolds (5)
8. RaggedMonk (1)
9. Tronlet (1)
10. FlipPro (1)
11. RodeoX (1.420)
12. Digigami (2)
13. DeathAndTaxes (1)
14. THCGroup (4.20)
15.

While I don't personaly smoke or take any other 'drugs' for that matter, I fully support a persons right to do so when it does not harm others.

I pledge 2 BTC

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

I'll pledge 2 BTC.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

Please accept my apology if I don't take the time to personally thank those that have pledge. I will keep up this thread and comment where need be. I will also update the list as the pledges come in. Thank you, all, for your kind support in regards to this issue. I leave you with the following quote kindly provided by BitcoinPorn that, more or less got, this a rollin'! Roll on!!!

Quote
I am not optimistic about the majority voting this as a cause to donate for, but I can hope people would look past their personal ideals and remember they are in this for the promotion of Bitcoin, and I have no doubts I could easily argue why Norml not only deserves it more than most any of the other charities listed so far, with a big point imo, is the user base fact.  This is peanut butter and jelly here.

If you go down the list of charities suggested so far, ask yourself "Would Against Malaria Foundation use Bitcoin?"    who knows and who cares.   Exactly.   Where when you see Norml, it's probably the only organization that would not only take Bitcoin, but possibly take it upon themselves to educate their donators on Bitcoin, something I cannot see all other sites doing, at most putting up their 'We Accept Bitcoins' png

More Bitcoin users means more Bitcoin users can donate.  Again, check the lists of charities people, is there another one listed that will truly promote Bitcoin on top of actually changing the world itself, which in turn effects ever other charity listed  Smiley

I pledge 2.3456789

Also, can you post the donation address so I don't have to remember that I owe someone money?  Kiss

Thanks!

There's no donation addressing set up for NORML during the pledging stage. You pledging is more than enough effort. When the time comes, you'll be notified, allowing plenty of time for you to honor your pledge.

I'm in for one as well.

If the price skyrockets, can one pull their pledge out? I'm always nervous when pledging and having to hold onto the funds myself.

I am in for a few BTC, but may I suggest Americans for Safe Access rather than NORML? I donate annually to both organizations, but ASA is a much more effective organization when it comes down to patients and protecting their rights. I have had the pleasure of meeting Steph Sherer on a number of occasions and he is an incredible guy aside from being an incredible activist.

You are just pledging, mcorlett, and not donating at this time. You've already done the most important part. Don't worry about honoring the pledge till later. We'll let you know.

I'm in for 1btc

Noted!

Now that explains your weight. And WTF is this suggestion? Are you beggin' me to start a Bitcoin420 foundation? I sure the heck hope BitcoinPorn doesn't see your post or this one, for that matter, otherwise he'll pen another diatribe expressing his views on how it should be included by quoting Biblical texts and what have you.  Smiley

You suggestion is well noted, RF. We'll approach that one after we get NORML squared away. How's that sound?

Ha. I am down with whatever.

I just wanted to throw ASA out there. A lot of people have never heard of them, yet they have done more for patient rights than NORML ever could dream of accomplishing.

I'll pen you in at (5). Interesting fact you present there. I'm going to do my best to get both on board. Whatever it takes to help spread the word on Bitcoin.

I am sure I am overstating it, I just have never seen NORML at any city council meetings or protests, whereas ASA has been there every time, lawyers and clinical research in hand, ready to fight politicians who think they can interpret the law however they please. I bet NORML does plenty, I just haven't seen it.

Now given the facts, I firmly place the blame on BitcoinPorn for not offering ASA up first, opposed to NORML. Then again, I've read that boy ain't right.

But I think I have a unique solution. Notice that I always seem to come up with a unique solution. What if we present both causes the same request at the same time, stating to both that we did such. The first to respond, gets funded first, whereas if the other agrees, has to wait a tad longer, making sure we don't break our end of the bargain. Would that work? Draw backs?

1 btc pledged.

You're listed, Tronlet.

No donations are collect at this time. This is just the pledging stage. (I sent FlipPro a PM)

Thank you, RodeoX. As mentioned about, no need to send any coins yet, for this is only the pledging stage.

I took the liberty in putting a (1) after FlipPro and RodeoX's names, located on the pledging list in the OP.
