761  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: November 14, 2023, 10:19:45 AM
I'm confused and looking for answers

If you are lonely, can you have interest in gambling simply because of your loneliness?
A feeling of loneliness can easily lead to depression. Somebody in that situation can do anything to feel better; some resort to drinking, some play games and I wouldn't be surprised if some can choose gambling as a solace. So, yes loneliness can be the reason for some people to indulge in gambling and if that be the case, their are chances such person will perform so badly in gambling. This is because the are not with the right frame of mind and that will affect their decision making.

How would you judge someone who says they don't gamble because it's fun, is that a sign of a gambling addiction?
I'm not among those who think they can gamble for fun because there is no fun in loosing your money. The winning rate is very low and the only thing that makes the difference is that win to loss ratio for gambling is very high which is as high as 1:10 to sometimes 1:1000. Meaning one win can offset several losses. Gambling is a serious business and should be treated as such and not like some random video game. I saw a ticket of a $100k bet shared here...that make me begin to wonderful who will place a bet of such amount and call it al for fun!

762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin an option for low- and middle-income countries [Fees & Costs] on: November 13, 2023, 10:17:29 PM
This is part of the reason Bitcoin was created, to offer a better alternative to conventional payment systems. Personally, it was the need to send money across borders that led me to Bitcoin because accessing FX for other needs was restricted in my country apart from education, medical needs and some selected businesses. I found Bitcoin which was easier, cheaper and more convenient to use.

I am curious to know if (and how much) Bitcoin is adopted in low- and middle-income countries.
People in my country see Bitcoin more from the angle of investment than what it was actually meant for, however, there is growing awareness on the usage aspect of Bitcoin, it may be slower than expected but there is progress. When the Russian-Ukraine war broke out, a lot of people repatriated their money home through Bitcoin. Some that were also stranded were able to receive funds through Bitcoin as well

According to these, do you feel like Bitcoin has helped? Do you use it to avoid all those remittance costs?
Bitcoin has helped me and a lot of people I know but the percentage of people using Bitcoin is still very low. Not many people know that Bitcoin is a cheaper option for cross borders transaction.  I feel we still have a long way to go.
763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy every dip! on: November 13, 2023, 04:04:18 PM
Buying every dip is easy to say, but difficult to identify the dip (for me at least!)

Every time the price of bitcoin drops I am afraid of the point that it is going to stop or it will be ongoing for a long time. Looking at charts and trying to make my TA sometimes prove me wrong!
If you exhibit this character of extreme fear when price of Bitcoin drops, it is a sign that you have invested much more than you are supposed to invest in Bitcoin and that is not a healthy practice. It could also mean that you are not well aware of that price of Bitcoin goes up and sometimes down and never in one direction. Whichever be the case, I think you need to make serious adjustment in your investment approach if you must have peace of mind while being invested in Bitcoin.

It is character like yours that have motivated people to start working on different methods of investments that will take away things like this fears. If you spare some time to learn about the DCA method, you will realize the focus is to eliminate the kind of fear that you expressed by allowing you invest just little amount of your money per time and done consistently. When the amount invested is not a huge burden to your financial obligations, you will not fidget when price is going down and you will also be able to continue buying since you are already convinced that the investment will require some time before you begin to expect some profits.

I seriously recommend the DCA method for you.
764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin may not hit $24,750 again in 2023 - I'm bullish till 2024 on: November 13, 2023, 03:43:46 PM
I think the Bitcoin market may not go below $30000 in 2023. Currently, since the end of 2023 is just one month away, we can definitely say that the price of Bitcoin will rise upwards. We've seen the Bitcoin market rise rapidly over the past few days and it's not going down much, but rather up. If currently the Bitcoin market can grow further and touch $40k dollars, then we can say for sure that there is a possibility of further growth in 2024.
I was of this opinion before but for the fact that Bitcoin is heavily influenced by news, it is safer to keep an open mind. A single negative news can send the price dropping by over $10k. At present, it is not clear if the much awaited Bitcoin ETF will get approved, if that be the case, market will react rapidly heading south. This is not my expectation though but it is a safe way of approaching the market.

As Bitcoin halving takes place in 2024, we may see the market turn somewhat bullish again. According to the current position of the market, we can say that the market will touch $40000 dollars by the end of this year.
Indeed 2024 is an interesting year for Bitcoin and as usual, expectation is high. If by any chance the Bitcoin ETF is approved together with the halving activities, chances are that Bitcoin may record a high that is beyond expectations.
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whatever happens, hold on to your Bitcoin. on: November 13, 2023, 01:10:16 PM
It is important to emphasize the fact that with or without ETF approval, Bitcoin will always continue to make progress; this clarification is needed so that those relying solely on it to make their investment decision will have a rethink.

No one can be sure of that, not even you. I had such expectations, but I knew anything could happen. Indeed, in technical analysis, the curve shows almost the same movement and always repeats. In terms of supply and law supply, the development of the crypto industry, even adoption are all supportive. But I still believe that there is still a 1% chance that crypto could go to zero. So at least you have to stay alert. Nothing is certain in a crypto industry right now even though some countries have recognized crypto as a commodity.
Maybe you are few of the supposed Bitcoiner that do not believe that Bitcoin will continue to make progress. Maybe you believe Bitcoin will die someday. By the way, I hope you are not mistaking my statement for price prediction? Making progress could be in terms of adoption and penetration  such as we have seen in El Salvador and Central African Republic.

Anyone in this forum who does not believe that Bitcoin will continue to make progress might not really be a believer in Bitcoin and that is unfortunate.
766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin forging ahead Demonstrates Resilience in the Wake of FTX’s Downfall on: November 13, 2023, 12:58:19 PM
Bitcoin was never connected to FTX as both are two different entities,  and representing different interests. It is rather unfortunate that some people might attempt to categorise both as cryptocurrency,  hence the reason the uniformed will assume that cryptocurrency is full of scams and risks.

It has become very necessary we make the clarification regarding the use of the word "Cryptocurrency" because it is obvious that Bitcoin usually pays the price for the various scam perpetrated through the various shitcoins.
767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whatever happens, hold on to your Bitcoin. on: November 13, 2023, 12:39:09 PM
While the Bitcoin ETF is a hot topic, its important to realise that Bitcoin's worth and possibilities extend beyond this event. The whole picture counts. Bitcoin is popular due to its decentralised structure and limited supply, regardless of market swings or financial instruments like ETFs.

If we dig deeper, the ETF rejection could just a hiccup in Bitcoin's trajectory. Bitcoin has historically thrived in uncertainty. Bitcoin is a technology, movement, and new way of thinking about finance and autonomy, not just an asset. Holders  understand this.

Its critical to comprehend Bitcoin's underlying ideas and long-term vision, but market dynamics and ETF approvals or rejections are also important. Your suggestion to hold on during tough times fits a long-term investment approach. Patience and a solid grasp of Bitcoin's fundamentals often pay off.
You have a very sound understanding of Bitcoin and that I commend. It is quite unfortunate that over 80% of the Bitcoin community rarely see Bitcoin beyond the price and what can possibly make same to rice. Just few people are paying attention to the bigger picture; this is the reason the issue of Bitcoin ETF dominates, Bitcoin halving and Bitcoin discussion across the community.

It is important to emphasize the fact that with or without ETF approval, Bitcoin will always continue to make progress; this clarification is needed so that those relying solely on it to make their investment decision will have a rethink.

769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Personal data of 300K users, provided at BTC ATMs, allegedly in hacker's hands on: November 13, 2023, 11:50:50 AM
This looks like a leak of the Ledger database, only with the difference that the images of ATMs users are also included here. If we take into account that ATMs are usually the most expensive way of selling/buying cryptocurrencies, I wonder why all these users agreed to such KYC and did not use some CEX where they should still do KYC, but the fees would be many times less?
At first, I felt that Bitcoin ATM I'd one innovation that will Foster greater acceptance and adoption of Bitcoin as it offers more flexibility and accessibility to Bitcoin. Unfortunately,  events surrounding the operation of these ATMs and issues such as this one leaves nothing to be desired.

Also, considering that the company behind everything went bankrupt, is it possible that they (or one of their employees) actually sold that database?
This is likely the case...it was an easy money for whoever was involved since the company was already bankrupt.  This may benthe fate of most platforms hence the reason for my fears regarding KYC.
770  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler's family action. on: November 13, 2023, 02:57:53 AM
She told about how the family members of a particular young man that is like a plunger when it comes to gambling, his compulsive gambling is to the length of him selling his personal properties and gadgets to make sure he gambles. So what he family did was to print a photograph of him and giving it to all the gambling shops within their neighborhood and around the locality, threatening that any of the gambling shops they have pasted the photo of their brother should they find their brother allowed to gamble in the shops they will sue the gamble shop owner to court as one that is abetting their brother's compulsive gambling lifestyle.
This is a wrong way to go about this because it can damage his self esteem and damage his name entirely within the neighbourhood.  People in this situation might resort to suicide. What they need is to seek the help of a psychologist. With proper therapy,  he will be fine. Besides, he does not need to go to shop to gamble, he can just create account in any of then numerous platforms.

Now, while I was quietly listening to the story in my head I began to ask myself several possible  questions and one of such questions was; is it not possible that this young man can take a cab away from their location and move to a far area to carry out his gambling since his a compulsive gambler.
Moving away will not help his situation rather he will be frustrated the more. Like I said before, what he need is therapy and urgently for that matter.

Just two questions here:
1. Dis the family of this young man went too extreme in trying to help stop their brother from gambling addiction or not?
They were trying to help him but using wrong approach. People have passed through such situation and were treated. Shaming him is never a solution to issue of addiction because that cannot make him stop.

771  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need your contribution and opinion on: November 12, 2023, 05:49:58 PM
I have a little knowledge but I need a guide. Bought some cryptocurrency like XRP and Bitcoin. Currently people only talk about Bitcoin but the price is very high for me to afford investing in it. I don't know why I feel like it's the only cryptocurrency worth investing and I would love to try  but am still learning gradually about it.
I really understand your situation because I have been there before. I will advice you to start building your Bitcoin portfolio no matter how small you start but be consistent in it. Like people already commented, you must not start with 1 BTC, just little fractions and done consistently will do the magic.

If you are intentional about it, set aside small percentage of every funds you earn to be injected into Bitcoin in such a way that you will not be pressured to sell it. Do thus for few years from now and see where you will be in the future in regards to your Butcoin portfolio.
772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is different from other means of investment on: November 12, 2023, 05:25:31 PM
One of bitcoin's main characteristic is being your own bank, and on one side is nice because in theory no one can get your bitcoins, on the other hand it also means that if you lose access to your funds nobody can help you, so I wouldn't call that "comfort and peace". Let's be honest, for many people this could be too much, if the majority of your funds are in bitcoin your life is tied to those 12/24 words, without considering of course the possibility to be hacked or making some mistake.
When you open your bank account and received your credit or debit cards, you were advised to keep the card safe, same with your mobile or Internet banking details. You are required to protect your secret pins and passwords because if they enter wrong hands, your money will be gone. You accepted these conditions and agreed to be responsible for whatever happens to your account should your information get into the wrong hands. Indeed you call the conventional banking system "peace of mind" but Bitcoin risky meanwhile, the procedure for securing your funds and taking responsibility is similar in concept and in reality... keep your hardware wallets(ATM card, hard token, your phone with the sim card) safe, protect your password and seed phrase (Card pin, mobile and Internet banking password) safe.... same concept,  same responsibilities.  You might argue that you cannot recover your funds if you on the case of loss or you forget your password; this is where backup in different ways comes in.

I'm not denying the fact that there is risk in Bitcoin because everything in life comes with some form of risk. Therefore, I consider the risk in Bitcoin normal with nothing special about it.

774  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Enjoy being a newbie on: November 11, 2023, 03:58:32 PM
If we must be honest with ourselves, it is not easy being a newbie in a forum like this. You will be overwhelmed by many things such as the rules of the forum and each board, how to post, quote, add image and many things. Even though there have been threads raised to address all these, searching for them and being able to understand what was written in those threads can be challenging especially for those who are not into coding. It is even worse for people who are new to Bitcoin and the blockchain technology.

One thing that is certain is that the process will become easy with time if the determination is there. As a newbie, there is no point rushing the process or struggling to impress people... just be yourself, ask question and commit some time to reading because that is the way to grow here.
775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin lose decentralization? on: November 11, 2023, 03:02:59 PM
Decentralization is the major crime of Bitcoin against the government and the powers that be. Many efforts are being put to ensure regulation to enable government take absolute control of everything, depending if people will comply or find a way around it.

By design, Bitcoin cannot loose decentralization, however, access to and usage of Bitcoin can be contrained to follow centralization with limited options available should there be full regulation like I explained before.

Many things that people are looking up to such as the Bitcoin ETF might make Bitcoin less decentralized.
776  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: When Godfather-ism becomes a problem in Nigeria on: November 11, 2023, 07:18:54 AM
When you have a godfather in this country just forget all your problems are already solve and it is very very crazy when it comes to the time of politics in country if you want to context for any post for this country you just make sure that you have one big politician and you will definately win the post you context for.
The extent to which you can go depends on the level of the godfather o. He must be someone that have capacity, someone that can fix things for you and who will be willing to go dirty to make things align for you. Godfatherism is seen in everything, even in the ministries, educational sector, religious institutions.  There is this popular saying: "follow who know road", that is a way of glorifying godfatherism.

It may not actually be a Nigerian thing because in the formal world, they call it mentorship. It is believed that when you have a mentor, you grow faster in your career and in life generally because he will be like a guide to you. Unfortunately,  the Nigerian context added some modifications to make it cult-like where the mentee is sometimes bounded by oath, this is where the problems start. This practice also add a kind of master-slave relationship to the entire thing thereby making it look discouraging to keeping a mentor especially in politics.
777  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 10, 2023, 02:10:07 PM
The Bitcoin market is bullish now so after you invest in Bitcoin the price of Bitcoin may have increased a bit for which you think you may have made a profit as you invested but this profit is temporary.
It is quite exciting seeing some gains in the market but I think it is too early to conclude that we are in a bullish market. There still chances of this being a bull trap. A lot of theories have been postulated as to why the market is rising, some believe it is rumors of Bitcoin ETF approval while some believe it is as a result of Ordinals, that is NFTs on the Bitcoin Network. If the former is true and Bitcoin ETF did not see the light of day at least for now, the market might dropped drastically even though we don't know the extent to which the drop will be but surely the market will respond accordingly. This will confirm that we are really still far from being in a bull market as many things are still hanging in the balance. As we approach Q1 of 2024, a lot of things will become clear.

Nevertheless, the wise thing to do now is to continue to collect Bitcoin with whatever method you are using because the bull market will eventually come even though we are not certain when it will happen. In line with the topic of the thread, "Buy the DIP, and HODL"
778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Angry at the high fees? That's what everyone predicted the future will be like! on: November 09, 2023, 07:10:26 PM
At this point it is becoming confusing. I read somewhere that the high fees is as a result of Ordinal or NFTs on the Bitcoin network. According to the said comment, the Ordinals is a new trend that is massively being traded, hence the congestion of the Bitcoin network.

I do know that this is not the first time I'm witnessing the situation we are facing now. So it becomes confusing knowing what to believe to be the cause of the high fees and if there is any other way around it with respect to the future because fees like this is a kind of discouraging!
779  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Joining this forum has widen my horizon about Bitcoin . on: November 09, 2023, 07:50:57 AM
This forum should be the oldest and biggest Bitcoin community. It has one of the most active users of Bitcoin as can be seen in the daily activities here. Virtually all information relating to Bitcoin can be found here and if peradventure anything is missing, simply asking questions in the relevant section will deliver the answer within a short time because there are people with great experience here.

There is hardly anyone who is in this forum and open to learning that will be lost. Hence, I'm not surprised to see rapid transformation in anyone who joins this forum and is committed to learning and following the conversation.

I must admit that I was rejuvenated when I found this forum after knowing and using Bitcoin for years.

Hello Community,

I have 1500$ and i want to invest it crypto as holdings. What do us suggest invest it all on BTC or alts? Thanks
Since I'm all in on Bitcoin, I will always recommend Bitcoin. The reason is simple, with Bitcoin, you will not have the fear of terrible sharp practices that is prevalent with shitcoins. You will not have the experience of LUNA and you will be dealing on the currency with highest liquidity and acceptance.  Apart from that, the growth is sure and there are many fundamentals lined up to push the price higher. This is indeed the best time to buy Bitcoin.
