761  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trouble with upgrading electrum wallet on: April 04, 2019, 02:41:13 PM
I use linux mint, and I am currently trying to upgrade my electrum wallet. I thought I had downloaded the latest version of Electrum -- 3.3.4 but when I opened the electrum wallet, the wallet itself said it was 3.0.5 and is stuck on synchronizing. I have followed all of the instructions on https://electrum.org via command line, and I am stuck. I have no idea how to get into this wallet, and I need my btc! I appreciate any help on this... Thanks in advance!

The problem is the python version available on your Linux Mint (and on most Linux distros). On  my Debian Jessie I have python 3.5.3 and that works only up until 3.2x but not with 3.3x which needs a newer python version (can't remember but when you try to install with pip it tells you what it would need).

Most probably the highest version you can use on your system without upgrading the stock python is 3.2x, i.e.:

Code:
pip3 install https://download.electrum.org/3.2.4/Electrum-3.2.4.tar.gz

Whatever you try, make sure you have your seed secured somehwere and eventually also a backup of ~/.electrum before you try to upgrade.

Incidentally, wtf is up with the KYC notification in this forum? Because I sure as hell ain't filling out the form it links to, it looks like fraud to me.

Theymos is famous for his April Fools day jokes. Check that "KYC" form and you should notice quickly..

Yup , they should have just cleared all orders themselves.
Just restarting trading at some point without fixing withdrawls first and not announcing it a couple of days in advance also very shady.
It definitely  leaves one with the feeling customers are getting worked over by creating room for people to make lucky under market value buys like this really leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.
Its just a accumulation of small and bigger mistakes that leads one to think they cant just be mistakes.

Can you even imagine the backlash, especially on here if Cryptopia had forced users to close their open trades whether they wanted to or not?

Consider both options,

A. They let users close their trades if they want to, other users complain they didn't force cancel all orders whether all users wanted that or not.

B. They force close all orders whether wanted or not, people complain Cryptopia forced them to cancel their orders.

FYI, I received the update mail on 20th March, which is after trading resumed. Assuming this wasn't a random glitch for my account only, there will be other customers who were not informed in time that they had the option to cancel trades.

I received the mail this morning.

LTC and BTC now removed from my "virtual" balance. And now I get eventually refunded in market prices from Jan14 - how overly generous!

From https://cryptonews.com/news/hacked-cryptopia-plans-compensation-scheme-3540.htm:

Quote
In February, the company said that "worst case 9.4% of our total holdings was stolen."

Quote
The exchange further said that “CLM is not a coin,” and that it cannot be traded yet. However, it supposedly represents the user’s loss in New Zealand dollar at the time of the hacking.

The haircut I currently see in my balance is ~21% (not amounting that i.e. LTC price doubled meantime, so I lost rather some >40%).

I expected not to get back anything from Cryptopia and so far, they really haven't disappointed me wrt this.

I don't know, but maybe we can at least expect a detailed and complete postmortem analysis on what happened, but I guess the guys are currently busy with cutting hairs of mio of customers...

I have two Apollos attached to a APW3++ power supply in econo mode. Runs just fine in my cool basement. I just purchased a third Apollo. Think I can hook it up to the APW3 as well?

The APW3++ should be safe and good for at least 4 Apollos running at whatever mode you fancy, I guess even 8 Apollos in eco mode should be no problem at all.

First, when saying delisting I mean halted trading and deposits. For at least the following coins that happened out of the blue and without prior announcement and without any of these coins suffering even an attack:
GEN, SPACE, SJW

https://support.cryptopia.co.nz/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=3759c7bcdb45e780d7e096888a961976

SPACE and SJW have a known vulnerability that can cause immediate losses. (Undetectable until after the event)
Low network hashrate and many available cheap asics to rent make it a serious problem.
They also have no working, reliable block explorer that I could find.

GEN I couldn't find details about.

Can you please specify if low hashrate or a known vulnerability was the problem (or both)? With vulnerability are you merely refering to a more conservative max_reorg figure or do you think there is a more serious problem? If so, why can this be shared with the community or the devs when a problem in code is actualy found?

Space Blockexplorer is and has always been here: http://space.midnightminer.net/ , working fine as I can judge from daily use.
SJW Blockexplorer is since roughly a year here: https://sjw.netcraft.ch/ (this has been brought to Cryptopias attention even, also working fine)
GEN was unlisted because it's self-proclaimed dev Hort had an argument with Adam and it got delisted/deactivated same day (only quote of Horts post available: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1205536.msg16038573#msg16038573)

Also I asked Lafu about Space removal in a german thread and only got referred to their coin listing policy in general. leaving unanswered if there is a problem in code they are unable to share info about or just the low hashrate that they saw as a danger for double spends in deposits.

Everything, everyone has said in here is being archived and will be hilarious once the truth comes out. You especially. As I've already said, can't imagine why someone promoting SEXcoin would be mad at Cryptopia...

Here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2547529 is a truth you can't avoid:

Quote
BenTheAnonMod (a paid employee of Cryptopia) is displaying a distasteful lack of empathy towards customers who are genuinely worried about their crypto savings post hack of January 2019.

http://archive.fo/Mj4Am#selection-6165.0-6165.62

I can't compel anyone reading this to follow my lead, but it's a very poor form by a paid employee of Cryptopia {1} to abuse those who have genuine concerns about where their funds have gone.

Wouldn't you agree Lafu and xtraelv?

{1} At least you *claim* to be a paid employee of Cryptopia don't you? (1) (2)

I like how you keep avoiding my SEXcoin point every time I mention it, agenda confirmed.

Do I?

Archived for future reference: http://archive.fo/xmyp6#selection-3161.0-3161.88

Proved my point again and didn't answer my question again, See folks he's promoting SEXcoin which got delisted from Cryptopia for not meeting their listing standards. No wonder he is pushing an Anti Cryptopia agenda, you aren't even remotely subtle.

You forget to mention that they always strictly avoided pointing out which exact criteria of their listing standards were hurt when they (instantly) delisted coins, they just pointed generally to their "listing standards". Not to speak about letting devs know about problems they find so that they could fix them.
Also one has to really wonder how the coins got listed in the first place, given they charge a huge amount to list (and supposedly check the sources for weaknesses and problems).

It only shows Cryptopias general attitude towards their customers that people that are scared having lost their money get insulted from you as spreading FUD and whatever. One could even think you are an agent provocateur from another exchange as you make Cryptopia look even worse than it already does after 40days of complete silence.

Does anyone actually have any proof in here? You know you can't just say shit without proving it right?
.
Also Cryptopia doesnt "instantly" delist coins, their knowledge base site specifically states when a coin was announced to be delisted and when it will be delisted (usually a month later).

You can't bullshit me mate.

First, when saying delisting I mean halted trading and deposits. For at least the following coins that happened out of the blue and without prior announcement and without any of these coins suffering even an attack:
GEN, SPACE, SJW

I am sure we could find many others where that was the case.

As you seem completely unable to have a polite choice of wording in a conversation I'll refrain from further replies to your posts. I am sure that makes me some <fill-in-rude-obscenity> but then again...
I could even care less if Cryptopia wouldn't owe me ~0.3 BTC which thanks to rallying prices are meanwhile worth even a bit more.

777  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: February 21, 2019, 03:11:32 PM
So, a week of "relentless work" aaaaand... silence.

Given how quickly they got pissed off in the past by things people said here or in some chat (yes Hort, I mean you among others), I guess they have read this thread and decided to never reopen at all because we are all just bitches and don't deserve it.. (and I am only kidding 50% here... if you ever watched a dev saying something nasty to them followed by having them delist the coin within a day on no other base than "dev is an asshole" you know what I am about)

Anyway, should they reopen anytime, imagine the crypto bank run this will result in. From reading here and judging from my own impression, I strongly believe that everybody just wants to get his/her coins off there, so I have my doubts if we will be seeing them reopen at all - no matter what, there would be no liquidity there (and therefor no notable trading fees) for months or even years to come.

If I would be running this exchange and I would have been plannning to reopen and make again money with trading fees (for example to cover lossses from the hack) I would have made my best to keep my customers confident, informed and in good faith.
But all we've got so far (after more than 35 days) is only looking and feeling like a stiff middle finger from them pointing towards us all. So at this late point in time I have no choice than to come to the conclusion that they do not want to reopen at all or at least not within a foreseeable timespan.

The best we all can do is to raise our right arm and move the hand in a waving manner.
(you are now waving your coins on Cryptopsya goodbye, you know you should have done this some 30days ago)
